My 4 star rating does not apply to custom service. In this area, the staff deserve above and beyond exceptional. From the minute we walked in and until we left, the courtesy, respect and warmth we experienced was extraordinary which is very rare these days. This is a small restaurant with numerous artistic drawings on the walls: very nice to look at. In regards to the food, the miso soup was exceptionally good, very tasty. The fried gyozas were not the greatest, a bit dry. I recommend their hand held sushi; I had the spicy tuna: the fish was fresh and tasty. The chicken wings were crispy and tasty as well. My partner and I shared the Panang Curry with chicken with white rice. Although the flavors were on point, the curry broth was too watery. Stopped in for lunch at 2:00 on a Friday. Greeted and seated quickly. Considered the Lunch "box" special offering one Thai entree and one Japanese roll - but instead we landed on Teriyaki Chicken for Rick and the Pad Woon Sen for me. Dishes were served quickly, which was not surprising considering the lunch service ends at 3:00 pm. The teriyaki was a half a chicken breast pounded thin - generic teriyaki sauce - nothing special but not awful. Chicken was sitting on top of some broccoli and carrots, dish served with rice on the side. I ordered my Pad Woon Sen with a spice level of three. The server commented that that would be pretty spicy - was I sure? I confirmed that three would be great. I was expecting a dish with a flavorful brown sauce enhancing the rice noodles, chicken, egg and veggies. What I got was some warm rice noodles with zero flavor. Zero. I stirred the dish and tried a few more bites - still - no flavor. I let the dish sit on the table - expecting the server to come back soon to check on how everything was tasting. When Rick was halfway done with his entree and she had not returned - I took the dish up to the counter. I explained that the dish was not what I expected and they offered to make me a fresh one. The second Pad Woon Sen arrived tasting just as bland as the first. I brought it home, added my own Thai chili seasonings - and it was passable. If I lived nearby - I might try their sushi - but can't recommend the Thai dishes based on our experience. read more

I wouldn't go here for sushi again. Looks like they just threw it on the plate , non of the rolls were even or have all of the ingredients in them. Some were missing certain things. Also got the sushi nachos and all the chunks of cucumber where huge and they forgot the avocado and when I asked they made sure to tell me 'it's on us' they didn't take it off the bill. Service was also very slow. Definitely a run down place, tears in all the furniture, weird smell at first walk in that lingered. I wouldn't waste your money. It's been a while since we've been here and it was great from what I remembered. The pick up time was 45 minutes which was much longer than what I'm use to, either they're super busy or understaffed, regardless, our order was ready at that time. I was disappointed by the quality and appearance of the salmon sushi we received. There was no uniformity, either it was prepared by a trainee or a chef that just didn't care. As for the eel roll, it was good but cut into 6 large pieces; again, no attention to detail or uniformity. Making sushi is an art in itself, it's appearance is as important as it's taste. And at last; the JB Roll and Spicy Tuna Roll were great, but definitely seems like it was made by someone more experienced so perhaps 2 different chefs worked on my order. Would I come back; I'm sure eventually, but it's definitely not on my top list of sushi restaurants. read more

My wife felt like eating chicken Pad Thai, so we went to Thai Shokun. I ordered the Wonton soup and the Thai Shokun fried rice! The food was delicious, and the service was excellent. I have never tried out this Thai and sushi restaurant in the same shopping plaza as a lovely breakfast and soup place, but I have been craving sushi lately, and I managed to make it exactly to this plaza to pull over before I needed to jump on a conference call from my car. I used this as an excuse to eat sushi for lunch. I called in to order takeout. The RockNRoll was really good, without needing anything added to it, a lovely combo of crunchy and soft. I would order this again in a heartbeat. The spring rolls were awful. Soaked in oil, the outsides were crispy but the insides were total mush: liquidy vegetable mush. The order came with 3. Unfortunately, the online menu on their Yelp page priced the items I ordered very differently than my final bill. Their online menu states the RockNRoll is 9.95, but they charged me 12.95 for this. Likewise, the spring rolls are listed online as 3.95, and I was charged 5.00. Disappointing, but my own fault for not addressing it when I looked at the receipt. Unfortunately, the person I ordered from did not give me the total price over the phone when I ordered, and I did not ask. Good lesson for me! My friend suggested we meet for dinner at Thai Shokun to catch up on old times. We both love Thai food, and the food here was great! I ordered the cashew stir fry with fried tofu. The vegetables were fresh and plentiful, the fried tofu sopped up the delicious mildly spicy sauce, and I ended up spooning whatever sauce was left with some steamed rice. Super delicious, rich flavors that I'm still thinking about. The only reason that I gave this restaurant four stars instead of five is because the restaurant itself felt rundown. I'm not sure if they are in the middle of painting the wall with a mural (which looks like it could be amazing!), but there was paint all over the booth seating that brought down the ambience just a little. read more

This place is a gem. The staff is very friendly and inviting. The moment you come through the door you feel welcomed. It's a small hole in the wall place but man does the food deliver. My wife and kids come here and our son is a celebrity to them. He comes in and they light up when they see him. He loves the miso soup and the fried rice. My wife gets the California roll and some edamame. My daughter also enjoys the fried rice. Everything is fresh and cooked to order. It comes out piping hot. I get the panang curry. Level 4 spicy. It's almost as good as my moms but I have to say that because moms is always best haha. But don't sleep on this place. It'll rival the best Thai places out there. Plenty of seating. Norma handled our crowd well, and kept our glasses filled and enjoyed our camaraderie. Salads were crisp and both the ginger and the peanut dressings were delicious. This is not your neighborhood Thai-Japanese joint. Prices and atmosphere are a bit upscale. But today, fish and seafood is a bit more expensive than other items. That being said, some things on the menu cost more than you may be willing to pay. There were lots of date night couples here -- all dressed up for a night out. When we left, every table was occupied which is a good sign -- there's high turnover; no fish is sitting around; and the food must be good for the place go be so popular. We both were in the mood for soup to start. I got their (Thai style) wonton soup. The clear broth is light and flavorful with a hint of white pepper underneath for depth; there are scallions and 3 house made wontons stuffed with chicken. It was served piping hot as it should be. My husband got their Tom kha soup with coconut milk, lemon grass, scallions, and whole shrimp. He ordered it 3 1/2 level spicy. It had a bit of oomph but not killer hot. They go from 1 to 5. After that, I had a soft shell crab appetizer. It was okay -- a bit small, plainly fried, so not much flavor. I'd skip this dish in the future. Then I tried their summer roll with crab and shrimp, soft lettuce, and cucumber -- slivers of each all wrapped in a (non fried) rice paper. It was very refreshing dipped in their version of peanut sauce which tasted like it had added hoisin sauce in it. This was large enough to share. I'd definitely get this again. My husband had their "4 bite" sushi appetizer. It had tuna wrapped in salmon with avocado and fish eggs on top. He said it was very good. They have a large menu of sushi, Japanese, and Thai dishes. They also have one or two pages of specials each night as well. Service was good. They offer wine by the glass and bottle plus beers and sake. They only have green tea -- hot or cold. No "brown" tea. It's dimly lit with candles on each table along with a flower. Orchid blossoms adorn most of the dishes. It's located in a busy shopping center with an ice cream shop, soup specialty restaurant, and a very popular Greek restaurant plus tjmaxx, home goods, and Ross. Thai beef salad - my single favorite Thai dish anywhere. The one I had the other night rivals the best we had over the summer in Thailand. So happy this is on the menu now. I was really disappointed tonight, this place used to be fantastic. We were sat immediately upon entering, the restaurant was pretty busy. It was 15-20 minutes before anyone else came over to us. We told the waitress we knew what we wanted. I ordered miso soup and tofu pad woon Sen #3 spice, which comes with a salad. My husband ordered Tom yum soup, and chicken pad woon Sen # 2.5 spice. My daughter ordered goza, and udon pad thai. I didn't get my salad, my husband didn't get his soup, and my daughter didn't get her goza. My portion was much larger than my husbands. We did however get another tables drinks even though we already had drinks on the table. The food took over an hour. Both pad woon Sen dishes were flavorless, and had no heat. I told the waitress and she offered to have them remade. My husband was really hungry and chose to eat his. I didn't want to wait since it was about an hour and a half already. They took it off the bill with no problem. My daughter said that her food was good. Before we left the waitress told me there was nothing wrong with my food, that everyone tasted it and they thought it was fine. I don't know what was more shocking, that with COVID still around they ate a customer's food that the customer had already taken several bites of, or that they thought that it was fine. I do want to add that the miso soup was fantastic. I love miso and order it all the time. Their miso soup is one of the best that I have had. Also, I do realize that restaurants have had trouble staffing since COVID. They had a hostess with earbuds in, leaning on a stack of menus for most of the time. Just a few feet away sushi sat on the counter for a long time waiting to be served.
