    Tan Tan Ramen
    Lucy M.

Stopped by for a late dinner in the area around 11PM on Friday night and the place was popping! We're staying super close and it was pretty drizzly and cold outside so it was nice to warm up with some hot noodle soup. We were seated quickly and ordered two bowls to split, the tan tan ramen with thin noodles and the black garlic with wavy noodles. I preferred the wavy noodles and my husband preferred the thin noodles but both broths were excellent. The chashu was super tough and the egg was a little overcooked but the rest of the toppings were delicious. Would definitely return again for a quick and convenient bite to eat on a chilly night!

Got the wasabi octopus starter and the red spicy ramen dish. Octopus was okay, and the ramen was decent. I liked the vibes of the place and it felt very cozy.

Great ramen spot in midtown. A few tables inside along with counter seating. Menu is pretty simple and they also have some Japanese whiskeys.

What an awesome little restaurant. One of the best Ramen soups I've ever had. I got the red spicy Ramen and I ordered the pigs feet that I added to the ramen. We also had the chicken appetizer. The service was excellent. The only negative thing for me, but I gave them five stars due to the service and the food. I'm 6'4" 225 lbs so the seating was a bit tight for me. If I lived in the city I would eat there once a week.

Came here for a late night bite, but I feel like the black garlic ramen was quite bland. I was disappointed in my dish. I like the chashu though and the egg. My friend who got the red spicy one quite liked hers -- said it was decently spicy.

Got the "black" ramen and added corn. Wanted it with ground pork instead of the cashu but they couldn't figure it out. They don't make modifications easily so beware. White onions in my ramen wasn't noted on the menu so I was taken a back. The service was slow but it was a single waiter for a 20 person restaurant. She did the best she could. The restaurant was very efficient space wise. Perfect for a late night meal but I wouldn't go out of my way to dine here.

We ordered the Black garlic ramen and the chicken ramen. The broth was the best part of both. The pork was tasty, though a little chewy and could haven been more tender. The chicken ramen was just alright- the broth was tasty, but the chicken pieces it came with were unseasoned. We both agreed that it could benefit from additional toppings. We had the place to ourselves eating in at around noon on a Sunday, but though there were several takeout orders going in and out.

This is my favorite place in NYC. I literally do not leave New York without coming to this restaurant. It's one of those hidden gems that everyone should try. The restaurant is small with limited seating but the wait is worth it. What is also amazing is that the servers always remember you no matter if you were here a week ago or a year ago. I always get the miso ramen with extra egg and chili oil on the side and it is delicious.

Small ramen shop in Midtown that provides the most adequate bowl of ramen that I think I have had in all the ramen bowls I have had to date. There is nothing really bad about this ramen, but nothing great about it either. I ordered their white ramen, better known as a Tonkotsu ramen, and I feel it makes the grade on a mediocre level. The amount of noodles they put in are plentiful, and they definitely taste fresh, but the chashu pork that is used is bone dry and the egg that is in the ramen adds zero character to the bowl. I also feel the broth has no flavor and loses its integrity quickly. Ramen is intended to be eaten quickly, but this feels like as soon as the bowl hits the table, you are given five minutes to consume it, thus making the extra noodle refill unnecessary unless you plan on drinking the broth (I did not). Avoid ordering the Bao. These are not worth $10. They are bland, boring, and messy. I have been to restaurants where I look forward to eating these. I did not enjoy these and for a minute lost all faith in Bao-manity. My spirit was broken. However the service was quick and courteous and I found zero judgments from any of the staff. I always commend any restaurant that does not judge its non-ethnic clientele. It creates a more welcoming atmosphere. Nishida passes the mark but it is a ramen shop I will not be returning to.

Came here with some coworkers for a Friday lunch. The noodles had good texture and were quite chewy. The seasonings were not too strong or light. The portion size is fair for the price, as I had some leftovers. I think the food is great, but not necessarily outstanding.

This was one of the few spots that was open at 2 AM and only a few blocks from the hotel we were staying at. It's a small ramen spot but it's really cute inside. There are cute kites hanging from the ceiling and hooks for jackets/umbrellas above the tables. The set up of this spot really maximized the space even though it was small. Even though it was 2 AM, our server was really friendly, welcomed us with a smile and took our order quickly. The restaurant was also pretty packed for the time which was a good sign to us. The food came out within 10 minutes of us ordering. I ordered a gyudon (beef) bowl, salmon onigiri and my husband ordered a bowl of ramen. My onigiri was delicious. The salmon melted in my mouth and the rice was cooked perfectly. It was the perfect appetizer. The gyudon bowl was equally as good. The beef was seasoned well and had the perfect texture. My husband also loved his ramen. Great broth and great noodles. Everything was of top quality which again, was amazing at 2 AM in the morning. I would highly recommend this spot if you're craving some Japanese food.

Cozy and pleasant -- Nishida Sho-ten is just the spot you need for a late night ramen fix. The noodles are great, but the spicy shrimp appetizer was the show-stealer in my opinion. Food: 4/5 Price: 4/5 Experience: 4.5/5

Not trying too hard, just comfortable and cool. I had a couple cocktails while I was there. They have a solid bar program and everything I tried landed. Then I got the Spicy Tan Tan and it was exactly what I wanted. The broth was the star. Deep, rich, and had just the right kick without going overboard. This place is packed and they have their Michelin Bib Gourmand placard all lined up from 2019 to 2025 at the front, so expectations for a good bowl of ramen is high. I tried their Tokyo Ramen ($22), which overall tasted pretty good. The noodles were freshly made and had good texture to it. The broth itself was light, rich, not garlicky, and tasted really clean. The portion did feel a bit on the frugal side. Service is alright for the most part. The bartender ended up taking the person's order that sat after me, which did tick me off a bit as I was ready to order myself and got skipped over. Ended up waiting another 5 minutes before I finally got to place in my order. A simple question asking if I was ready would have fixed that issue, rather than assume I wasn't.

I have a shrimp allergy and politely asked if the shrimp tempura could be substituted. The server immediately said no, without offering any alternative or showing much concern. He said I can remove it myself. I said so let the shrimp inside the bowl for me to remove? WTH. For a restaurant, especially one serving customizable ramen dishes, with a allergy list post on the wall by the counter where I sat at B1, a little flexibility or empathy toward food allergies would go a long way. The interaction felt dismissive and unwelcoming, which made the overall dining experience uncomfortable. Customer service matters just as much as the food, and sadly this visit fell short. The smashed cucumber was good. Spicy dumpling was good. Ramen broth was light, not as rich or flavorful as others. There are so many good ramen places in NYC, this Chinese Ramen place has lot of room to improve.
