My husband and I have been coming to Niya for about five years, and unfortunately our last three visits have been extremely disappointing. I want to be clear that we've always enjoyed the food here, although even our most recent meal fell short. The real issue, however, has been the wait times, which have become unreasonable. Today my order was estimated to be ready at 7:15 PM. It is now 8PM and I am still waiting. For context, I placed the order at 6:00 PM. Meanwhile, guests continue to arrive and are being seated. Spending nearly two hours waiting in the lobby for a to-go order--both today and on our last visit--is simply unacceptable. The waitress did offer a free dessert and a gift card, which I declined because, unfortunately, we do not plan on returning. She then offered $20 off the bill. While the gesture was noted, it does little to address the broader issue when the bill is $130 and the wait has been this excessive. If the owners are reading this, please take a serious look at how orders are being managed. If the kitchen cannot handle the volume, online orders should be paused until the system is fixed. This used to be a place we genuinely loved, which makes this experience all the more disappointing. At this point, however, the wait and frustration simply aren't worth it anymore. read more

We were greeted w a smile from Christine and a clean spot at the sushi bar along with a comforting mug of hot green tea. Chirashi bowl was delicious- in all my years I haven't had rice this delicious. Presented w care to keep the sashimi cold and the rice hot- quail egg, caviar and two types of roe were unexpected treats. The Toro was fresh and perfectly sea-butter. Gold medal chefs! I agree, the lunch/dinner options might be a glitch, but these prices were on the first page of the menu, not on the middle page, which clearly states, "Lunch specials, Mon-Fri". Again, per my son, sushi was super good, and it does make sense, order sushi from a place that specializes in this type of food. I'll definitely try this place again and this time, I'll order some sushi. My son wanted sushi for his graduation lunch, we found this place on Yelp, which was about a mile from where we live. My son liked his crunch roll, which is what he usually gets. I ordered the teriyaki chicken, which I didn't like as it was so dry and flavorless. I ordered the lunch item (menus have two different prices for lunch and dinner), but I was charged the dinner price, I knew this was lunch bc the portions were really small. I also made it clear while ordering, and said, "Lunch teriyaki chicken). I saw the mistake on the bill, but said nothing to avoid upsetting my son. Been going to this place for years now and the quality never disappoints. Weather it's going out for a nice date or with your family like I often do it's the perfect middle for both. What I loved the most was the service. The workers were very on top of their jobs and very friendly. You could tell that they really cared about there jobs in a way that's more than just a job . She was craving for sushi but most sushi restaurants in Huntington Beach were closed for break except Niya Sushi stayed opened until 2:30pm so we quickly went in. With limited time, we quickly scanned the lunch menu and went with these options: - A. NIYA LUNCH SPECIAL COMBO: $22.95 - C. SUSHI COMBOS: $25.95 - Seaweed Salad: $4 The interior is simple and clean, with a straightforward menu--every dish comes with a picture, which is super helpful. The ingredients were fresh, and the grilled scallops in the lunch special were delicious. Contrary to some reviews, I think the portions were pretty balanced and we didn't experience the issue of too much rice or not enough topping. The server was very attentive and he asked if we wanted to add anything else before their break. As we were leaving, we noticed the freezer by the counter had macaroon ice cream sandwiches for $4 each. They looked pretty big and tasty but we were already planning to grab dessert elsewhere, so just left it to next visit. This restaurant has been here for a while and its only five-minute drive from the Bolsa Chica Conservancy and also not too far from Huntington Beach. Stopped coming here about 5 years ago, but seems they changed hands again and are back to being a good place to stop in for some healthy food after our gym workout. Happy to say we are once again regulars and want to give a shout out to our favorite waitress, Gina. We come so often, Gina remembers what we order and is always extremely friendly and attentive. The food here is quality. From their omakase to sushi rolls without rice, everything has been above par. My friend always orders the 3 item combo which comes with a very nice salad. All items are top quality and prepared with exceptionally well. The service is attentive and quickly prepared for us because we usually have less than an hour after our workout until closing time. I LOVE sushi and thought I'd tried most places in the area, but decided to rely on reviews from other Yelpsters and give Niya a shot. We had famliy visiting with kids and at the last minute they asked for a sushi lunch. They love them some sushi but they live in small-town Nebraska and rarely get the opportunity for quality fish. The family knows my proclivity with sushi and they had high expectations, and trying a brand new place with guests was stressful. I was nevervious as we walked into the unassuming strip mall location and somewhat plan inside and silently thought "Please Yelpers, don't let me down!". I am happy to say that Niya simply blew it out of the water. One person said "oh, beef bulgogi, I'm getting that for sure"; after licking the plate clean, said it was the best he'd ever had in his 46 years of life. The rest of us split various pieces of nigiri and some rolls for the kids. My sister in law, a world traveling RN with a great pallet, simply smiled, nodded slowly and said..."..fresh..the fish here is VERY, VERY fresh.. we don't have anything close to this even in Omaha". We went there on a Wednesday night to celebrate my wife's birthday. We sat at the bar, and were attended to very quickly. We ordered the salmon sushi, the Machu Pichu roll, and the Angel roll. Spicy tuna and a cali roll were served quick on the same plate. Veggie tempura was filling and good. Also had the rice and miso soup, all were good with no discrepancies. I wanted to update my review for Niya since it's been a few years. We come to Niya for our casual sushi dates. Their fish is usually fresh, affordable, and they have options for no rice. Their menu has lots of options and specials. They also have specials not on the menu listed in the place. When we came in for lunch they had blue crab handrolls available and lots of drink specials. There were so many different options. I got their salmon teriyaki lunch special which came with miso and a salad. The salmon was a little underwhelming but everything else was good. I also got their Angel roll as well. It's a yummy no rice roll that includes, fried shrimp, tuna, salmon, and spicy crab. It's wrapped in soy paper. I recommend it if you do not care for rice. The person I came with got their lunch sushi combo which is basically their chef's choice of 10 pieces. All the fish were good. They also got the Niya lunch special which comes with your choice of 3 different types of rolls (4 pieces each). The baked scallop, Hawaiian, and Washington rolls were all good. We left pretty full and spent about $75 for both of us for lunch. Service was excellent and food came out quick. The inside is pretty casual. It's located in a strip mall so parking is pretty easy. I feel bad to be leaving this review but it needs to be known. We ordered the beef teriyaki, Agadashi tofu, toro, tuna sushi and shrimp tempura. Out of everything the toro and green tea was the only thing worth paying for. The most atrocious was the beef teriyaki and hard rice. I think I wouldn't mind the mediocre food so much if it didn't cost as if it were a high end restaurant. With tip spent 100$ Luckily we were too hungry to care about the tempura that was more batter than shrimp and the tofu was ok but batter wasn't the best but not hungry enough to eat the tuna and beef teriyaki The waiter was great and he's the only reason I feel bad about this review read more

Just had lunch here today. My sister and I were looking for an AYCE spot, but realized that despite HB having lots of sushi spots, AYCE is not widely available. There were only a few more people there other than us and they only needed 1 server. What I really liked about this place was the lunch specials. They prove that you don't need rounds and rounds of sushi to get full. My sister and I both got deals and were full with some to take home. My sis got combo A which is a choice of 3 different sushi rolls. I got combo B which is a choice of 3 main dishes, an appetizer or sushi. I will say that this place does sushi better than teriyaki. I got the beef teriyaki and it was disgusting. The meat was of poor quality. It had a leathery texture and the sauce was a thick, coconutty concoction. Maybe they used coconut amimos instead of soy? Anyways, it was inedible and I pushed it aside after 2 bites. The sushi was way better, especially the Mexican roll, which my sister and I agreed was the best out of the other rolls we had. The nigiri sushi could be better. They cut the fish on the thick side here. I prefer it to be a little thinner. The ratio of the rice to fish is also off because the rice underneath the fish is really small. They could put a little more there to compensate for the thickness of the fish. The space is clean and it was a semi-quiet atmosphere today. I would absolutely come back but I would just stay away from the teriyaki. read more

Had a sushi combo takeout. Fish was very good. Every piece was perfect. Two pieces had a nice spicy sauce, but they didn't divide the pieces in the takeout container so sauce got on other pieces. This is my all time favorite sushi place. The entire staff is great and so friendly. The fish tastes so fresh and their flavor combos are fantastic. My favorite roll is the in n out roll which has a slightly spicy sauce mixed with spring greens and cubed tuna served on top of a cut roll. It is magical. Everything I have tried is my new favorite. Came here tonight around 6:30 for dinner, got seated quickly, but what was not quick was the food. It is not an understatement when I say that it took longer than 45 minutes to receive our food. We placed our order BEFORE some other tables were seated and yet, they got their food first. That doesn't seem right to me, especially when we ordered similar items. The table behind us even canceled an order on their tab before leaving because it took too long. We were about ready to walk out when we received our food. It should not take us asking the server more than twice where the food is. To be fair, he did kindly explain that the sushi chef is backed up, HOWEVER, the restaurant is not completely full, and other tables got their sushi order BEFORE our sushi came. I got a bento with teriyaki chicken, and let me tell you that it is just dry, thin grilled chicken with cold teriyaki sauce on top, but I'm too scared to send it back, because it might take another 30 minutes to get a new one. Visited here the other night and since coming here years ago the place has seemed to only got better over the years. The servers, who also seem to share the duty of the hostess job, are very on top of it with the customers and seem to have many locals who frequent the place. We went in on a Thursday night around 6:30 pm and were seated promptly and when asked for our order and needed a few minutes she didn't just disappear and not come back to check on us. We ordered 3 sushi rolls and some rice and beer. The beer mugs were frozen too, which is the best way to drink it! Tables were very clean and not sticky and floors were picked up and just overall a really clean and nice atmosphere. The place was seemingly busy for a weekday but everyone was getting their food and drinks in a good manner of time and not waiting around. Our food was very flavorful, fresh and had great presentation. They even offer a check in on Yelp to get a free Macaroon ice cream, made by a company called Brick local to Southern California, which was absolutely delicious. read more

We walked in at 2:04 (they close at 2:30) and we were told we need to hurry up and order because they're doing last call- 2 other tables were in there eating.... Kinda rude... We don't expect soy paper for free as most places charge .50-$1.00 per roll for it, which is fine... two bucks is ridiculous- If the waiter was at least nice, I could have probably overlooked the $2/roll for soy paper but the combo was a bit much...
