SO UNDERRATED! This place could easily be overlooked as just a Chinese takeout window, but this was the only place that warranted a REPEAT trip from us during our one-week stay in Maui. If you're looking for large portions, tasty food, and a sprawling menu from katsu to roast duck, all priced SUPER reasonably, you NEED to come here. But keep in mind there is no ambiance whatsoever, just a few tables if you choose to stay and eat. We initially ended up here on July 4th, mainly because it was one of the few places actually open on the holiday (gotta love Chinese businesses!). Our friend, who is a local, brought us here with low expectations. After days of having overpriced food from food trucks with small portions, No1 BBQ was a breath of fresh air. These are a few of the items we tried: -- Ong Choy Pork Plate: Dude. Did you know you could get super authentic Chinese ONG CHOY in Lahaina?! Because it's here at No1 BBQ and it is sooo good. Keep in mind even this very Chinese dish comes with mac salad because #HawaiiThings hahaha -- Chicken Katsu Curry Plate: My fiancé was craving this dish for days and of course they had it here, and with huge portions - even he couldn't finish it all (which is saying something) -- House Chow Mein: again with the HUGE PORTIONS Overall I'd recommend coming here when you've had your fill of poke and other more hyped places on your list, and just need a bigass plate of comfort food for really cheap. Hubby spotted this locals' hangout and we decided we had to try it. Not much on atmosphere, but the food makes up for it. If you're salt cautious, you'll want to ask them to moderatly apply it on your hamburgers/fries. I love beef curry stew and this place hits the spot. Wednesday 3:00pm Hubby and I were in this shopping center to check out the Dollar Store. We saw this place and thought we would pick up some food for dinner later. There are tables available outside if you're going to stay and eat. The menu displayed is mostly worn from the sun and the part that is written is not written well. We couldn't see many prices. There are a variety of items to choose from. We noticed a breakfast menu that is served 6:30am to 10:00am. You can order a full meal or sides only. We decided to order orange chicken, by itself, no rice, salad, etc. and paid $13. It was good. 4/5 stars because neither of the two women working were friendly. read more

Absolute worst food I've had in as long as I can remember. We were looking for a food truck that wasn't there. Since we were hungry and saw this restaurant's sign, we decided to try it. It's not a very appetizing looking place, with old pictures of the food hanging up, and stone benches outside. The woman taking our order could barely speak English. We ordered a shredded pork dish, orange chicken and an order of two egg rolls for 3 of us to split. I was optimistic because it took a while and I figured they were cooking it fresh. If they were, it hardly mattered. The egg rolls were a soggy, greasy mess. I cut the two into three pieces of mush. I ate two bites, but no one else even finished their first bite. It was that bad. The shredded pork was so salty and tasteless we thought it was just spoiled. No one finished their first bite. The orange chicken was obviously not fresh. The "meat" was too chewy and not white meat. Who knows what it was but it was tasteless and no one ate any. Both dishes came with rice and macaroni salad. The white rice was edible but I was the only one who ate a little of it. The macaroni salad was so disgusting looking that only one of us took a bite, which was promptly spit out. The whole dinner (except the two bottles of water) went right into the garbage. #1 BBQ is a Local favorite, this is Local kine food brah!! The prices are better then average. House chow mein 9.45 delicious, nothing fancy just a mini foil pan made to order noodles. Chicken, shrimp, pork, in a proprietary flavor that reminds you that there is no place like home. The food will take a little bit as it is made to order so we wait because it is worth the wait ( like my wife says when I ask her why am I always waiting on her? Wife: because I am worth the wait) and this little meal is. My wife had the "wor won ton mein" apparently it's a soup that her grandfather would buy for her when she was younger. Very gracious in portion size. Love all the vegetables added to the soup. I would have given 5 but I hate the no back on the seating arrangements. You probably won't care but I do. I'm so happy they are open late, since we stopped here recently during our trip to Maui. They offer Chinese and local food at a reasonable price. They also give you plenty of food. The container of our beef chow fun was packed. The beef was tender and the dish was flavorful. Heck, we had enough for some leftovers the next day. My son ordered the mochiko chicken and steak teriyaki too. The steak was a bit dry, but the mochiko chicken was good. They have tables outside, but we decided to take it back to our condo to enjoy. L&L's cousin, but the better one. It's been awhile since I've eaten here. They've added some new menu items, like meat jun, which I noticed after I had already ordered. No1's menu caters a lot more towards the locals, they also had ong choy with pork, and bittermelon, stuff I've never seen at L&L. Price is affordable as well. Their menu needs a tad refresh, the prices has worn out and I guess they've had to update prices so often they just stopped putting it out there... but atleast there's pictures showing what the food looks like. read more

This place was good for our family. If it's hard to find a place to eat because of so many varying and differing food interests in your family, this place works! In our extended family we had someone with food allergies, a few who were craving Asian, a meat and potatoes guy only, an almost vegetarian, and someone who was craving French fries. #1 Barbecue had something for everyone in our group! We ordered several orders of Kalbi ribs, Chow fun, fried fish with french fries, fried shrimp with french fries, and tofu with vegetables. Everyone was pleased because there was something for everyone and everyone got what they liked! I must say that the chow fun here is pretty good, done in an authentic Cantonese style like what you would find in the San Francisco area. We went back the next day to get a New York steak and garlic shrimp combo plus an order of oxtail soup. What a contrast in our experience this time! The food was so so salty! Too salty for our taste that we couldn't finish it. What a waste. A nice New York steak that we couldn't finish because they were way too generous with the salt. I'd you're hungry for some hole in the wall food with some grease and heaviness, come here. I'd say it's a local neighborhood joint with people from different working classes coming to eat. They have your typical Chinese-Hawaiian food with shrimp, fish, beef, chow fun, and more. They serve with macaroni salad and rice per usual. Not sure if there are any other cooks but it seems like there's only one guy lol. This place is just ok and more of a quick bite. My parents and I discovered this place after asking a local about where to eat on our last day in Hawaii. We were looking for something more local rather than the restaurants that tourists flood. This place did not disappoint. You know you've come to the right place when you see a bunch of locals lined up. Some of the best Chinese food I have ever had if not the best. Definitely was in for a surprise as I was not expecting it to be as good as it was due to the "so-so" prior reviews on Yelp. It's only listed as a 3.5 rating which is shocking. My fiancé and I purchased the garlic fried shrimp dish and the beef chow fun. Just DELICIOUS, flavorful, and truly authentic. We are definitely coming back for another meal there before we fly out of Maui. So happy I just happened to chance upon this place. Also amazed they didn't ask for any tip during payment. My mother was really craving an authentic mixed plate like Huli Huli chicken with rice and Mac salad. We were staying on Front Street, Lāhainā, Maui. We asked where the closest mix plate place was and she recommended NO 1 BBQ & Chinese Restaurant. We ordered the BBQ Mixed Plate, the BBQ Chicken Plate and we were so excited. We were pleased to find this place after searching for Hawaiian plate lunch all over without much success. Apparently it isn't as popular on Maui as on the Big Island. My husband was thrilled with the kalua pork plate. Budget friendly! Great spot for people not looking to spend a lot on food, sooo good! Got the NY steak + garlic shrimp plate for under $15. Fried fish plate was under $9. It's on a strip mall, definitely more of a local place, workers were eating on their lunch break. Our total was $25, cheaper than buying poke at Safeway. The server is very polite and he showed us pictures of the food to choose from. Order by the window and then eat at the tables outside or take it to-go and eat by the beach. Yup this is not a local place for tourists to enjoy a view or drink fancy cocktails - it is, however, a great little locals place that served pretty darn good food for a great price! We ordered spam musubi, fried shrimp plate, rib plate, and both served with rice and mac salad - super yummy and fresh - the spam musubi was HUGE! Had to save some for breakfast - Customer service was quick, efficient, and nice but not overly friendly - not necessary - we enjoyed our food on the tables at the parking lot - and took the rest home to the hotel, because it was a lot! No 1 is really hands down one of the best on Maui. Every time I go there, the food is soooo good!! Honey walnut shrimp is to die for, Panda Express could never top that. The garlic shrimp is so yummy and rbe Mochiko chicken is flavorful and cooked perfectly. The Mac salad is the best I've had and the crispy gaugee is nicely cooked! Portions and prices are okay, not great but better than resort prices. I've only tried 2 dishes but probably won't go back. They reuse their oil. The 3 proteins steak, fish, and shrimp were all 5 star worthy. The rice was dry but edible and the mac salad although cold wasn't my favorite. People aren't gonna appreciate this place for what it is. It's a hole in the wall mostly for locals with great tasting food no matter what you order on the menu. It's not going to appeal to those who are snooty and are just staying at the four seasons down the street. Everything is made well if you know what to order. My mother ask the man at the front if she can have mustard and mayo for her fries he told her no more and that ketchup was right here. Then when her order was called I went to get it for my mother and the guy wasn't giving it to me after my mother told him that I was her daughter jus trying to help my mother carry the food. About 2 blocks off of Front Street, and I think that makes it so almost no tourists go there. Wandered over one evening when we didn't want to go out. You can either call and place and order or order at the window - our food was ready in 5 minutes after ordering. Had the orange chicken, which came with rice and pot mac. Also go the potstickers, but only ate one and wasn't the biggest fan of them. Orange chicken was fine, nothing special about it. All in all it was a fine dinner, don't regret eating there! Located behind front street in Lahaina, they got the most meatiest duck on the island. Oh and the flavor is good. I've tried different places that offer duck and I get serve mostly bones. The price for a roast duck plate here...is awesome. My family orders different things off their menu all the time but I stick to the duck because it's my favorite. Not once did they complain about the food. The portion to pricing is generous and affordable. Reason for a low rating is because of their service, I'm not sure if that's how they are pretty what but I feel like they're angry or along those lines up until I pay them then I get a more mellow vibe. Maybe it's just me, nah it can't be because my son even asked me if they was grouchy. Seating is outdoors. The restaurant is like you order at the window and you pick up your food at the window and you either leave or sit. Nothing fancy.
