O Sushi does not miss. I'm fortunate that I live within walking distance to O Sushi because I crave good sashimi at least once a week. So when the craving spikes, I trudge my way downhill to grab some takeout. Having been here twice now, I can confidently say that their sashimi is on par, if not better, than most sushi restaurants within their price range. It blows Sushistop out of the water and I looooove Sushistop. But when I'm in the mood for sashimi, I defer to O Sushi. Parking: The only issue with O Sushi is that it shares a tiny parking lot with several other businesses. During normal business hours, it may be quite a hassle to park in the lot. However, there's plenty of parking in the neighborhood and a quick brisk walk is all you need. Luckily, I crave sashimi at night and I live close. Neither issues affect me. Ambiance: Very traditional Japanese sushi restaurant. Japanese regalia are hung above the sushi bar and behind it stand the experts of their craft. Great shushi little spot! Can't believe I drove by it so many times without checking it out. Food: The sushi there was really good. Everything was fresh and flavorful. My favorites there are the fresh eel (6pc cut), yellowtail (6pc cut) and the jalapeno bombs. Their hand rolls long with the other rolls were really good too. They sell alcohol there (saki, Sapporo, Asahi, somu, soda, etc). Service: It was great as we were welcomed in as soon as we walked in. The food did take a little bit long to come out as they only had one chef on deck (Sunday evening) when I went but no biggie. Ambiance: Its small but cozy yet simple. They have a small bar area to eat at and several tables (seat up 2-4 people but they can combine a small table for up to 6). They have restrooms there and a couple of TV's to watch some sports. I've lived in the area for several years and just now have discovered this spot. It's in the middle of a plaza with a small parking lot attached. We stopped by on a Friday night. It was packed when we arrived but only waited for 10 minutes. There was a homeless person about 10 feet from the entrance but in front of another storefront. The restaurant itself is small too. Maybe 4 or 5 tables with minimal bar seating. There was one person making sushi that evening and one server. I assume there was one other person working the kitchen. With the limited staff, our orders still came out in a timely manner and the quality of the dishes were very good. We ordered mixed tempura, albacore delight roll, what's that roll, and crispy tuna rice. All were delicious. My favorite was the albacore delight roll. For the quality and amount of food, it was also reasonably priced. Only downside is the limited parking and their bathroom door didn't close all the way. There's a weird door stopper that prevents it from closing fully, which is a problem. Other than that, it was an enjoyable dinner. read more

We've been dreaming of coming back since then. So finally, we did. We got lucky that we were a bit early for a Friday night, 5:30PM and was able to be seated right away. When we left, there was a line of people outside. Hubs got the tuna roll and I got the 2-item bento box with salmon teriyaki and sushi. Hubs said his roll was a bit overwhelming and the fish was on the dry side, but I loved mine... the box came with miso soup (which was oddly on a sweeter side), rice, and salads. Came here on a Tuesday and was 1 of 2 people in this small restaurant. It's a pretty cute little spot and pretty comfy. We ended up having to wait 10-15 minutes to order because the waiter and the chef were talking about something and didn't pay attention to us. Personally I liked it, and there was a lot going on. (4/5) Sashimi Plate - This was $36 for 18 pieces which honestly is pretty good. It came with I think 5 different types of fish, some including tuna/salmon (I don't know what the rest way and it's not listed on the menu) Pieces seem fresh and overall it was presented well. O' Sushi is such a hidden gem. I almost want to gatekeep it, but the owner is so sweet I felt like I needed to do my part and leave a review to help them out. This is one of those spots that feels like you can be a regular at with the perfect combination of relaxed atmosphere, amazing quality, and good prices. It's not cheapy cheap, but the price for the quality is totally reasonable and worth it. We have been back twice within two weeks, and couldn't stop thinking about the chirashi bowl after the first time we had it. We each got our own the second time we went back. My bf (a raw salmon connoisseur) said this was probably the best salmon he's had. So buttery. The fish quality is incredible. Yellowtail is pillowy and falls apart in your mouth. The mackerel, the tuna, the octopus--everything just tastes so clean and is so tender. I love the little yuzu sauce they put on top of the yellow tail. To put price perspective, the perfect filling amount for us was one chirashi bowl each and one roll. I probably could have done without the roll and been fine, but with that + my iced green it came out to about $83. Under $90 for a quality sushi lunch or dinner that leaves you super satisfied is pretty good deal to come by these days. read more

Fairly new, solid Japanese restaurant in the area! My family ordered takeout for dinner and was told it would be around 35 minutes to pick up. The place is located in a very small plaza with a small parking lot. There was no parking when we got there, so my fiancé had to wait in the car while I grabbed the food. I still had to wait about 10 more minutes since our food wasn't ready yet, so total time was around 45 minutes since we placed our phone order. We got a Bento Box Special with Chicken and Beef Teriyaki, which comes with a side of rice, miso soup, and house and potato salad. The portions were great, and the meats were juicy and flavorful! The potato salad had some raisins and apples which I thought was interesting. We also ordered some rolls - Rainbow Roll, Dragon (Eel) Roll, and California roll. All the sushi rolls were good and pretty standard, and the fish tasted fresh. We also ordered a side of Shrimp Tempura which was tasty as well. Overall, the food here is delicious! It wasn't busy at all despite Google showing that it was busier than usual. I must've missed the lunch rush. I snagged a corner table that was comfy like a booth and appreciated the festive decor and holiday spirit. I was kindly greeted by a server, who was working by himself at the time. He was such a gentleman and very attentive. There was one sushi chef who was preparing the sushi, and he did not disappoint in delivering every table's orders in a timely manner. The place is small but mighty as I had a great quality and satisfying meal. I ordered the Oishi (riceless) roll, hotate nigiri, saba nigiri, soft shell crab salad, and a "What's that roll." Heard about this new sushi spot near the Montebello Mall and Monterey Park Costco area. They're located in a small plaza off the corner of Arroyo Dr. & Paramount Blvd. Very small and strange parking lot. The restaurant is even smaller than we expected. For busy days, there will be a long wait outside. We ordered the bento boxes, beef teriyaki & california rolls and salmon teriyaki & sushi rolls. Both bento boxes come with miso soup, veggie salad, and fruit salad. The salmon teriyaki was pretty good, but the beef teriyaki wasn't tasty. California rolls and sushi rolls were okay, not great. Miso soup, veggie salad, & fruit salad were all bland and tasted weird. The food here doesn't taste like an authentic Japanese sushi restaurant, perhaps it's an Asian fusion place. Service was fine. When this place opened up I was pretty skeptical, because the previous owners also ran a sushi restaurant there. It lies on a corner by a skate shop and liquor store and looks very unassuming, but it is GREAT. The food is high quality, the service is so kind and attentive, and even when we get a chirashi bowl to go, it's GORGEOUSLY packed and still tastes delicious. I asked last time I was there and learned it is a family-owned business. I love that there's Asian representation in this area. I have tried many rolls and a bento box in addition to the chirashi. The servings are very carefully and beautifully presented, while being generous and tidy. I don't have a photo of the chirashi bowl in person, but you can see, even the takeout was epic. The restaurant itself is small and tidy. The tables and seats are comfortable. It is quiet and family friendly. The parking lot is shared with other small shops in the plaza, but I have never had an issue finding a spot. So this was an interesting restaurant: it's a small sushi place with a few tables and a bar, for a capacity of about 20 people. There seems to be 1-2 cooks and a server and that's it. We ended up waiting 10 minutes which was fair consider the size. Once we got in, the server sat us down at their largest table, which sat 5. We were a party of 3, which hopefully gives a better visual of how small the restaurant is. We ordered 3 bento boxes, one w/ beef teriyaki and ca roll; one w/ beef teriyaki and tempura, and another w/ chicken teriyaki and ca roll. The server was kind enough to give us a edamame appetizer for the wait, which was kind. They were slightly toasted and seasoned with sea salt, and made for a nice shareable. This is when things get interesting. The food arrived, and we began to eat. The beef teriyaki was Korean beef bulgogi. The taste was obvious, in how sweet the meat was marinated and the sesame flavor. It was good for bulgogi, however, not what I was expecting for a japanese restaurant. I had recognized the waitress speaking in Korean with the cook throughout dining, but it really registered after my first bite of the "beef teriyaki." The california roll was also interesting, in particular the taste of the seaweed. It too tasted like the sheets of seaweed specific to Korean manufacturers as opposed to the taste of typical japanese nori. It was off putting and not enjoyable; I ended up leaving 3 pieces of the 8 that came with the box. Overall, this place is not bad, but set the expectation that you are going to a Korean-Japanese fusion (heavy on Korean) restaurant with japanese aesthetic and inspired plates. *I would not come here for japanese food though.* read more
