My friends and I came in for the all-you-can-eat pizza special that starts at 10 pm on the weekends. The pizza on offer were the margherita, mushroom, and an off menu "pepperoni" that was pretty much the margherita with salami on top. The mushroom was great, but the margherita and pepperoni were underwhelming. My fave pizza in the city is Ammazza and the pizza at 246 just wasn't as crispy or the crust as chewy. Also, a bit of a gripe is that I feel like the ceramic/porcelain platters they serve them on cause the pizza to get soft from condensation faster than pizza served typically on metal platters. Of course, the pizza completely worth it for the $6 all you can eat deal. But if you're paying full price there is better pizza to be had elsewhere and a non-pizza dish would probably be more worthwhile. read more

I got together with a group of friends to come try this place out a few days ago. We went on a Sunday evening, so parking was free on the street. I called ahead to make sure we could sit as soon as we got there, but honestly there wasn't a need for it at that time of day, since there weren't many people there yet. The service there gets 5 stars. We were immediately seated, and the staff always sounded pleasant, whether it was over the phone, when we walked in, or when we were seated. Our waitress was knowledgeable and patient, easily explaining every item on the menu, while also giving recommendations. The food came out in a timely, dare I say quick, manner. I ordered the Ricotta Agnolotti, and split an order of the Fried Squash Blossoms. I have never had either, but I enjoyed both. The Squash Blossoms had a nice texture to them, though a distinct taste does not come to mind. It was good, but not memorable except for that it was my first time trying it. For $14, I feel like there should be a bit more impact. The Agnolotti was delicious. I know it was delicious because it was covered with mushrooms, which I hate, and I ate them all. There were numerous layers of flavor within those small pouches of pasta, with hints of flavors I could only guess at. I could truly feel the chef's touch in making this dish. I also had their peach or strawberry lemonade, which was absolutely tasty. Our waitress had no problem separating our bills, and the overall experience was great. The things that prevent me from bumping this to 5 stars are: - The prices are high for a moderate to small amount of food - They don't have their own parking lot - I left the meal feeling that the food was good, but not at all worth the stab to my wallet. If you just want a meal you have many options to choose from in the area but if you're looking for an experience No. 246 is a good place to find one. Four good friends and we really couldn't decide so we didn't. Each of us order a dish and four empty plates. We passed each around family style and each was so delicious. When I take a bite and experience several different taste sensations I call that amazing. I couldn't tell you which was my favorite because they each held their own. I had never had squid spaghetti and now I'm a fan. The noodles were thicker than normal spaghetti but that provided much more flavor. The autumn squash agnolotti was very mild & savory but more of a side dish and I might have been disappointed had I just ordered it. Wild striped bass, oh my cooked to perfection with a sauce you just wanted to crawl up into and stay all night. Last but not least was the hanger steak, very tender and again cooked perfect. We had the Caesar salad and the GA apple salad, Asher blue is one of my favorites so I had to have it. Dessert was also shared, we had orange polenta cake, chocolate olive oil cake, and almond frangipane tart. All were very smooth but none were too sugary. Our server Andrea from the beginning was very delightful and knowledgeable. She was an excellent guide this evening on our experience. Had my first of surely many meals at No. 246 last night. Started with 3 of the toasts (beans, ricotta, fig). All of the spreads were tasty and fresh, as was the bread. The toast is sliced thickly, which is nice and hearty, but perhaps too filling for a table of two to also have room for any other appetizers. Not a complaint, but just something to keep in mind when ordering. My wife and I both had fish entrees. My escolar was delicious, although slightly overcooked. My wife's trout was much lighter in flavor (I might have wanted to add some salt -- which thankfully they do include on the table), but she enjoyed it as-is. For desert we shared a chocolate tart, which was decadent yet not overly sweet. A difficult balance that they pulled off nicely. The place looks great although it wasn't totally full, I didn't think it was very loud at all. Perhaps they have already addressed the previous complaints about the music level. The only problem I experienced was with the smell of the polyurethane (or whatever it was). Obviously that will dissipate over time, but since the construction is freshly completed, it's still very noticeable. The only restaurant in the Decatur that compares in quality is Cakes & Ale. I'd have to say the escolar at 246 was better than any fish dish I've had at Cakes & Ale, but the trout didn't quite measure up. I enjoyed this restaurant. My girlfriend heard a lot of good reviews on it, so we decided to give it a shot. We both started out with some decent white wine. For appetizers, my girlfriend and I ordered some sauteed peppers with anchovy dressing salad. The peppers were great and spicy. I was disappointed with the salad. I felt like it was nothing to write home about it although it looked great on the menu. We ordered some carbonara pasta with bacon, and I thought it was pretty tasty. The mushroom pizza was great with the hot sauce served with it. The bill for two was $57. Add a 20% tip and it was just shy of $70. read more

I have been here twice now. Good place, good value, friendly bartenders. I had a tasty chicken dish the first visit, very good value. Last night I had the special, lobster ravioli. It was really tortellini with lobster. Very good dish, pretty small portion but adequate. Its a good value, nice place, good food. read more

The fact that you can order half-sizes of the main pasta dishes is really cool -- we were able to try a few different items, all of which tasted excellent. You can't leave here without trying the tartini (sp?) appetizer that has goat cheese on toasted bread with fresh greens and a balsamic glaze. It's perfectly fresh & vibrant. Great Service, mediocre food. Everything is homemade but flavors are are a bit overpowering. Took a bite of the shrimp appetizer and felt overwhelmed by the smell of the prawn shells. The shells made the tomato sauce taste like the ocean. But we still enjoyed ourselves, great salad, great drinks, we will be back for the drinks and the bartenders service. read more

Came in for brunch on a Sunday, after our delightful experience, I was surprised it wasn't more crowded. The chicken and biscuits were superb. We also had the frittata, the shrimp and grits, breakfast sandwich and a few salads. Everyone loved their food. The service was excellent. Ambiance is tasteful. Cocktails were all crafted very well. This was a wonderful Italian restaurant. Being from New York I'm very picky with Italian food and this place was excellent. Our waiter was super friendly and made the night a pleasant experience. Last night I met up with a bunch of friends for a late dinner. We all split a few plates of various meats and cheeses over drinks. My sazerac was a little too sweet but good nevertheless. For dinner, I had the best meatballs I've had since my Grandmother passed away along with a glass of the Brancaia super Tuscan red. My wife really enjoyed her pasta dish with the carbonara sauce. I finished her leftovers this morning for breakfast. Delish!! Overall, the food the service and the atmosphere were all very good. I would go again and recommend to my friends. read more

Excellent food and service. I love the 'Grade A sour,' a delicious cocktail. I personally prefer the winter menu compared to the spring menu. The butternut squash agnolotti is my favorite dish of all time here. The beef carpaccio is also delicious. The pasta dishes are much more filling than the fish dishes, though the trout is very tasty. The only major downside here is the parking situation. Both times I came here, it took me over 15 minutes to find street parking. read more

To start let me be fair and say that I've had some of the best food I've ever eaten at 246 and I should have posted at least one five star review for this place a few years back. After this experience I wonder if they are under new management or different cooking staff? I called a week ahead of time to schedule the chefs table for four. Was given the usual 6:30 option and had to provide CC info to hold it. Asked if I had food allergies I said seafood. She said shellfish I said seafood she said ok. Day arrives and we are there .. on time. There should be no wait because there is only one chefs table/counter but the waitress tries to seat us at a table I said no we are here for the chefs table and the debate ensues. She leaves and comes back about 3 minutes saying oh yes sir we will get you set up right away. We didn't sit till almost 650. She said they had the reservation but lost my CC info or some crap. We didn't get the first course..salad until about 710. The next course .. 745... and of course the waitress came by and asked if we had allergies. I said seafood. The second course was fish.. so they substituted roasted cauliflower for the fish on mine Ok the dish was good but substituting a veggie for protein was my idea of a good replacement. Next course didn't arrive until almost 830. We waited patiently It was pasta with spicy sausage. The fourth course arrived and it was steak. The one protein you should ask how the customer likes cooked. They were all brought out med to med rare. Two of us prefer med well to well. For two it was pretty much inedible. Last course dessert. Choc cake with heavy cream and a baked apple dish with ice cream Both were decent but were not hot-not even warm. Apple dish should have been heated. Only one of us did the wine parings. The rest just had a glass. We weren't done till 9:30. Had to wait 10 mins for the waitress to finally come our way and I had to flag her down to pay. Then the real surprise. They have upped their rates from 50$ per person to 75$ per. I've normally had a great meal and walked out paying around 300 to 350. This time with tip was 500$. Our friends enjoyed the place I think but I will say it was the worst experience I've had here. They were not prepared for us even with our reservation which they obviously messed up and then they tried to squeeze us in. I have said many time to my friends that this is my favorite place to eat in Atlanta. And brought several people here. It may be a while before I visit again. The best Italian food in Atlanta, you can't go wrong though it may be a bit more expensive and parking in the area can be a pain (not free generally). I've tried most their pizzas and pastas and have been impressed by what I saw. One thing I adore about the restaurant is that while it isn't advertised, they will allow you to order half servings of pastas at half the cost. It's an amazing offer because they have so many good options it may be hard to make up your mind. It also makes the restaurant a great option for people that aren't all that hungry. read more

I cannot believe that I have been missing this place for the last 6 years. Well, it really would have been longer if my current crush wasn't such a foodie! I butted in for the 1st time and ordered a "meatball". Let me just tell you that was one helluva meatball, and the sauce is probably one of the best I have ever had and I think I am 50% Italian (that's what they say). Then came the baked ricotta with toasted bread and fresh tomatoes. Plopped right on top was a soft boiled egg. The cheese gets crunchy around the edges because the whole darn pan is cast iron and stuck in a very hot oven (Hint: Don't touch the handle, to try to pull it closer). We shared the Strozzapreti and the pasta, firm and chewy (like licorice pasta with 2 strands). It was absolutely amazing with a bolognese sauce, grated cheese,and parsley. I was just looking to find something wrong. Whoever you are Ford Fry, I love you!! The service was impeccable, the ambiance works for couples (us!), to the table with the family celebrating 46 years of marriage, to the baby shower with the table of 10. Returned with my family from out of town - party of six. Made an early 6:30p reservation on a Friday night to try and mitigate the noise level and also finish in time to take the Decatur Ghost Tour which leaves from the band shelter at 8p. We were seated immediately...only a couple other tables at the time. Ordered meat & cheese plate and some other apps along with drinks. Drinks came quickly, apps took a bit longer than expected...maybe 15 minutes but not too bad. Unfortunately, we waited another 45 minutes for our entrees - they arrived at 7:45 making in impossible to make our 8p appt. The food was very good, but the experience was marred by the long lag. Our waitress appeared oblivious and when I prompted her all I got was 'it's coming'. The service really needs to keep up with food - between the noise, spacing and poor pacing of meals, 246 still has a lot to work on. read more

Friday night: had a 7:00 pm reservation and seated right away. Place started to get pretty full around 7:30 though. Friendly, knowledgable, and allergy conscious staff. Everything we had was very good: my wife's cocktail, shared a salad with peaches and blue cheese, sausage stuffed quail special, the Trofie pasta was a carbonara inspired delight)... Would definitely go again if in the area. Cool decor too. Loved being able to see so much of the kitchen and watch how the food is prepared. Exposed brick, lots of metal (on walls and tables). Probably not very kid friendly: staff and clientele are / were, but menu and atmosphere is not conducive to little ones. Two drinks, salad, 2 entrees, and a shared desert came to about $40 per person, but did have one of most expensive entree's (stuffed quail special: very worth it, but not cheep). Would give 4.5 if could: only been there one time, so not quite ready for the 5 star. read more

No. 246 is a great restaurant. I've been there twice now, once just on a date night and the second time on my wedding anniversary. The first time we went, we sat in the dining room and had fantastic pizza. My husband and I loved it. They have a great cocktail menu too! The second time, we made a reservation at the Chef's Counter. It was AMAZING! None of the dishes we ate were on their menu and a lot of it was things hey were experimenting with. We had such a wonderful time. They take dietary restrictions into consideration and they will pair wines for each dish as well. It was a great experience. The only reason I didn't give this place 5 stars is because it is SO LOUD! I could barely hear my husband from across the table. Otherwise, I love that place and I'll be back. read more

So incredibly delicious! I went with girlfriends and we feasted. We tried so many things! The fettuccine is the best I've ever had; with the lightest Alfredo ever. The 1/2 chicken was divine. And they had a special risotto that was also the best I've ever had. I'm eating my leftovers for breakfast and dreaming of my next visit. No. 246 is a lovely brunch spot. I ordered the French toast croissant, which came with mascarpone cheese, honey, candied bacon, and peaches. It was the perfect level of sweetness. I also tried two of the pasta dishes that my friends ordered: the Cacio e Pepe and the Strozzapreti. Both were super flavorful, and the type of pasta used was one I had never seen before. Both pasta dishes were huge amounts; there were plenty of leftovers! The ambiance at No. 246 was cool and trendy, as one could expect at a downtown Decatur restaurant. The wood roasted chicken and the baked ricotta were stunning. I really loved the fresh peaches and cream as well. The black spaghetti was actually better the next day after the oil, scallions and pepper had a chance to soak into the spaghetti noodles. Last night my husband and I celebrated Valentines Day at this amazing spot. There are so many things to say about the chef counter service. Excellent!!! Neal was our person that serviced us the entire night. From his suggestions of wine to drink to the amazing non-stop of food brought to us. The experience is well worth the price. You get to watch the kitchen staff at it's best. Best meaning watching them work a fully packed restaurant without skipping a beat. If you decide you want to do the Chef counter book it a month out. I have eaten at 246 many times, and I have always found the food to be delicious and the service to excellent. It can be a little noisy. The food is not gimmicky or trendy -- expect honest, high-quality Italian. The wine list is very good. They have a nice little back patio which is postcard lovely on a spring or autumn evening. read more

This is the first restaurant we have eaten onsite since the COVID situation. It's one of our favorites and we were thrilled to have dinner there. Everything was extremely well done and within all guidelines as far as I understand them. Could not have felt more safe. And of course food and service haven't missed a beat as far as quality.
