The effect of the glamour of No Vacancy will definitely wear out after the first or second visit. It pretty much dies after you walk through "the door." Do yourself a favor and don't search around for the way you get into the old hotel/lounge. It most definitely will ruin the surprise, because I love the creativity here. The Victorian-styled house is beautiful and foreboding from the outside. They have a valet lot and it's right off Hollywood Boulevard on a very small, nondescript street. I've come three times and for three separate occasions: a regular evening for a birthday, buying bottle service and two different work parties. For the first, we ended up getting a bottle in the "main" living room that overlooks the outdoor patio. The tables are in a half-circle design, so we weren't really separated from other people seated nearby. Still, we were near the DJ and that was fun, but very loud. Don't expect to talk much. Typical bottle service, with a host & mixers, so that was fine. The second time I came was for a work party, where the only drinks on the house were sponsored cocktails. They also wouldn't let you grab more than one drink at a time. The last time I came was for a Halloween party, which was intense and fantastic. Open bar and everything. They have burlesque shows, tightrope walkers and "period" people serving you drinks, along with a DJ and lights outside. The patio gets very cramped during the peak hours (at a regular night or even at a private event) as the venue overall is very small. Best entrance to a bar or any place ever. Went from confused to awe struck/excited/entertained in a matter of seconds and it really set the tone for the place. Has an aura of secrecy that lends itself to the speakeasy theme, and has a really cool dark vintage vibe inside with a bunch of quirky elements, like a rocking horse, burger bar, fireplaces, and outdoor lit patio area with tables looking onto the exterior of the place which looks like a gothic Victorian home. I've been to a lot of bars in Hollywood and they all seem to blend together, but this place is really something special. The crowd was great. It wasn't so packed on a Thursday night that I couldn't walk, but definitely populated with some really friendly and interesting people who were all outgoing and respectful. Loved the people who worked here too. One thing I didn't love was how tiny the women's bathroom was - it seemed like there was like 3 square feet of space inside so it was super cramped and people would accidentally open the door onto people because it couldn't be helped, but even so, the bathroom was cool and so were the people I'd accidentally bump into. Got invited to a table with drinks and also hung out with my friend by one of the fireplaces for a while and met a ton of fun people. I was here recently for a friend's bachelorette party and this place rocks! I wish we could've spent more time here! First off the way you enter is so cool (won't give too much away here) and it really adds to the whole speakeasy vibe. We were only here for about 30 minutes so I only had one drink, a whiskey sour, which strong without being too overwhelming..... They have a nice patio area and an indoor area as well as more then one bar. Overall, this seems like a really cool place and I can't wait to go back and spend more time there! Cons: - if you're not on the guest list be prepared to wait in line for a long time -no place to sit unless you book a table - not much parking..they do have valet, but it's expensive and you have to wait a while to get your car back - lots of stairs (can be annoying when you're wearing heels), you'll see what I mean when you go -pricey (it's LA) read more

Keep in mind he's the lazy type and never wants to go anywhere far so when he told me he wants to go here I had to give in. The entrance to this place is crazy... not going to ruin it so you guys will just have to check it out. Once inside there's two bars, one inside and one cash bar outside. Has to be the worst bar in LA. Someone else on here said it best: if you're looking for the most pretentious, discriminatory, and outright creepy experience from the staff then this is the place for you. Do not waste your time. There is no line-- a semi-circle where the creepy bouncer Chris selects only the pretty women that will flirt with him to get in. I waited 40 minutes only to be totally screwed over. After all that time he told everyone they were at capacity... as they continued letting group after group in that showed up after many of us waiting. Never in my life seen a fucked up system like this. Normally you wait in line at a bar, you eventually get in. Of course sometimes VIPs cut or girls flirt to get expedited. That's normal. Not here. Here there's no line just a semi-circle around the door allowing the bouncer to check out all the women to see which he wants to choose. Flirting, and being a well-endowed woman is the price of entry. He made that very clear as all night he handpicked women-- even letting them in while leaving the rest of their group outside. No one else got in... unless you bought bottle service... which they were pushing very heavily outside which also left a fowl taste in my mouth. They were clearly making the experience as cruel and grueling as possible to get people to buy bottle service to get in. Absolutely disgusting practice. If I were a woman, I would never come here. Absolutely terrible business practice, and proof of why hollywood has to be one of the worst parts of LA with this bar as the crown jewel. I'm starting this review off with just saying I am NEVER the type of girl to leave a review on a place, especially on a club But this place was such a waste of my time that i simply have to warn others to hopefully save someone's time. If you were like me and you're currently looking at this club's reviews right now because it's your first time wanting to try it out because you've heard of it from multiple people, this is literally your sign not to go... trust me go to a different place while you can . I'm a raised and born girl in LA and I can say I have been to numerous clubs and bars all throughout the area, and this place has been my worst experience of them all. To start off, every review you read here about security being assholes and only letting in the hot girls that flirt with them is all true sadly lol (Girls I know we've all done it, but I promise these securities are complete assholes just looking to make sure you buy a table here). Anyways, I got in line with a friend of mine thinking we wouldn't wait long and we ended up waiting over 45 minutes in a line that we thought looked "short". You're not getting into this place quick unless you've either bought a table or you're a girl looking to kiss security's ass. I wanted to leave the moment the men in the front were being rude, but because I was looking to go for a good time with my friends, I wanted to give this place the benefit of the doubt and just suck it up until we got in. But shit was I wrong I got in and IMMEDIATELY regretted all of it. The music in there was like listening to the radio station that thinks they're playing the bangers, but really aren't hahahha. If you're anything like me, I will literally party to any type of music that I hear, but man the shit I had to go through with security just to let us in was not worth it AT ALL. Okay I don't understand why this place is getting such negative reviews! It is one of the BEST speakeasy/bar places in Hollywood! Maybe I like it because I always head there before 10, and it's not hard to get in, at that time. Otherwise, I think you prob have to wait in a super long line for a while. Like I said, No Vacancy is in Hollywood, walking distance from other cool places like Dirty Laundry and Black Rabbit Rose (thai food there is just ok, I wouldn't recommend, btw). So if you weren't feeling this place, you can just head to those other places. Back to No Vacancy. Once you're in, you go into one of the little old-style 20s motel rooms and there's a cabaret dancer sitting on a bed. She tells you the rules (like how you're supposed to leave through the back, not the way you came in, etc) and then she pulls a lever. The lever moves the bed she's laying on, and reveals a pathway to go downstairs. No Vacancy used to be an actual house (this place is a bit off the main street, near a more residential area, so makes sense), and then a hotel for a bit and now, a lounge/speakeasy style place. And it really feels like you're in someone's house, but also at an old school hotel lobby and at a bar. The bar area's sizable but there are only two bartenders and it takes forever to get drinks. The drink menu's kinda meh, with a pretty lackluster variety of beer, but it's alright, I'm there for the ambience anyway. Also, if you get there before 10, it's definitely possible to get seats and just people watch for a bit. The outdoor area's nice too, because it feels like someone's backyard, but it gets excessively crowded because everyone wants to be outside. Unfortunately as the music gets progressively loud later on in the night, I end up leaving by midnight and never get to see the cabaret shows they apparently have. Ah well. I guess this just means I'll have to come back again another time! read more

COST: Obviously varies depending on how turnt you want to get on any given night Easily my favorite bar in the Hollywood area primarily because you get quality service, stiff drinks, ample dance floor, well lit and warmed outside patio area and all without having to pay a cover charge. No Vacancy easily ranks amongst premium clubs in the area without having to charge people insane amounts of money just to even get in. PROTIP: usually get there before 9 and there will be no line. With it being Hollywood and all, you will wait once it hits 10pm and later. The bar usually attracts a classier crowd but not the usual pretentious group of people who think they're above than everyone else. Came here last Friday for a gathering with some of my bf's friends and their girlfriends knowing nothing about the place before hand so maybe that's why I'm impressed rather than dissapointed with this place. All of us decided to dresss to the nines and it paid off. We showed up around 10:30 and there were only a few people waiting outside. The bouncer immediately recognized us as part of the rest of the party who was already inside (because we were all dresed up and most other people were actually dressed pretty casual) and let us in with no problem. I enjoyed the secret entrance to the bar and think it was the best of the speakeasy entrances I've been to so far. We meet up with my bf's friends on the outside patio and it was very nice, not too crowded, although they could use some outdoor heaters because it was pretty chilly. After maybe 20 mins the doorman from outside found us, completed us on our dress, and offered us a free table because of it which was AWESOME because all of us ladies were in high heels :). The drinks were good and decently priced considering it's Hollywood.(20 bucks for two). However be wary of the fact that the outdoor bartender does not know how to make a "sweet" drink. If you ask for it sweeter it will just get more tart lol. Really great guy thoughm, and will completely educate you on different types of whiskey. The music was nice, they alternated between a DJ and live band. Sadly there was no show of fire dancers or tight rope walkers that night like the pictures I see on Yelp. However, it was a fantastic experience overall. For those few hours I actually forgot I was in Hollywood. Definitely a nice change from the usual club experience. read more

I will have to go with 3.5 stars, rounded up for now. Been here once on a Saturday for a friend's birthday. When I got there, there was no line but there was a small group of people. Told the bouncer whose list we were on, then we waited aimlessly for a few minutes with the group of people before we were all let in. It was fairly quick and not at all like other reviewers' horrible experiences I've been reading about. Unique idea for the entrance, but there was also some lackluster to it. I'm sure they meant for it to come off a certain way, which was achieved, but it may be confused for just a half assed effort. Love the venue, look, and ambiance, but overall there is sort of a pretentious vibe. Our table was located in what appeared to be a small living room area in the house. There was a burlesque and jazz performance outside in the backyard area, which we really enjoyed. The dancer is very beautiful, and you don't see something like that in every lounge so it was a nice treat. We didn't dress up for the theme, but some others were, and I like that. It's fun. Parking was kind of difficult to find, we went with the valet across the street but were actually able to park ourselves in the spot closest to the venue. I have a feeling this place is pretty controversial on the ole' Yelpsphere. I think your experience is heavily dependent upon who you go with / when you go. Going with friends from work, college, etc, seems like a great idea. Going with a S/O for a night out? Not so much. The entrance to the bar was pretty unique, and I was surprised when we got in how large the complex was. There's a large indoor, and outdoor area, if the weather is cooperating. It can be a bit difficult to get a drink at times, but the place is crowd controlled, so it never gets too packed. Pretty eclectic crowd here, so you'll hear music of all walks; anything from swing and classic rock to modern hip-hop and top 40. There's definitely room to dance if you are looking for such a thing. Would recommend dressing in "smart casual" and getting there before 11. I heard the line can grow pretty long. Drinks aren't expensive, but they aren't cheap either. I was with my female friend and male gay friend and as soon as they noticed our male friend they decided to not let us in, talk about discrimination. I don't know how you can ascribe stars to a place like this. Either you like hip speakeasies or you don't, it's a personal preference. We went by 930 to avoid a line. They do a kinda cheesy welcome from an actor pretending to be the hotel madame when you first go inside. It was already too late to get a spot indoors, so we huddled around a fireplace outside to stay warm. The bar has no menu; I ordered a Manhattan that was tasty and prepared with flair. Even the outdoors maintains a cool, shadowy vibe and feels like you're somewhere special. Is it overpriced and "a scene"? Certainly. This is honestly one of my favorite bars in Hollywood. There's a lot to enjoy from the special entrance, to the vintage/old-school vibe inside, wire walkers, jazz bands, and classic cocktails. I came here for a whole 5 minutes and had one of the scariest and confusing experiences in a club that I've ever been put through. I realized very quickly I did not want to be at this bar but because of its hidden entrance, I got confused looking for the exit and took a flight of stairs that were apparently off limits or something. A woman who was walking in front of me turned around and started yelling at me and told me I was following her and I would have to leave immediately. She was short and had blonde hair and I think was a manager or something. The next thing I knew I was being physically kicked out of the bar and told I would have to leave out the side emergency exit. Made by the same people who did Good Times at Davey Waynes, this Hollywood Bar doesn't skimp on creating the ambience they want. Its off of Hudson, unexpectedly, and the venue is incredibly neat. You go through a fun little entrance (no spoilers here) and come into a charming Victorian home. The drinks are made fairly strong, there's a dance floor for those who want to get their boogie on, and an outside area with another bar that is great for standing and mingling. This place does get crowded! The music is fun with some oldies and some more modern music mixed in. But, I love that they have burlesque dancers and full performances with live bands (not all nights). I was absolutely blown away and impressed, with no cover fee?! They also have tight rope walkers which I haven't seen yet but stoked for it. Its a fun, a bit over the top but not so pretentious that you can't stand it, LA bar great for showing off to non locals but even if you are a local, its a talkative, laid back and social crowd you can find here. Make sure to arrive before 10:30 if you want to guarantee your way in! But don't mind the line too much, they only can take in small crowds at once because of how the entrance operates. read more

We waited in line for forever so we paid to get bottle service to skip the line (even though you can tell the bouncers were friends with girls in the line). We were having fun until we got kicked out for no reason. When I asked why that happened, they said someone else asked for it to happen so I said screw it and left. Even if you are at the front of the line and have been waiting there for hours, he will just completely ignore you and keep letting his people in instead.
