Steak Ranchero, Scrambled Eggs, Hash Browns (Well Done)

Happy to have a classic style diner in Oak View. Very clean. Love the Johnny Cash theme as he's a big part of our area. The staff were excellent. The owners were present which is always a plus. I always had a full cup of coffee because the staff were so attentive. What I ordered was different than what I expected, it was more of a stewed steak and eggs meal. The meal was actually better than what I thought I was getting. I always ask for well done hash browns, they nailed it. The biscuit that came with it was huge and fluffy. This restaurant is a California throwback to simpler times, great staff who are friendly and where you can expect a diner style setting and solid meal. Great stop for after a walk, run, bike ride. You get a lot of food for your money. Very happy we have this restaurant in Oak View!

Wow! What an unexpected gem in Oak View! We stopped in for breakfast on a Saturday around 8am and it quickly got busy as we left. Super friendly staff, very clean inside but yet it still has that old school diner feel. And the food is delicious! We ordered the ABC omelet and the lemon pancakes, both of which were so so good! Skip Ojai and come here for breakfast instead!

I can't say enough how impressed I am with this place in so many ways. To start the food is delicious and very well priced. I ordered a tuna melt and it came out quickly and very hot. The service was wonderful and the ambiance is so cozy and inviting. Tons of Johnny Cash pictures on the walls tie in with the town. Lastly the owner is delightful and really gets to know and connect with his customers. I will be back for sure! 20/10

We had such a fantastic experience at The Dutchess. My husband, my in-laws, my brother-in-law, and…read moreI came in for dinner, and from start to finish everything was exceptional. Our server, Gabriel, truly made the evening special. My father-in-law is vegan and my husband has allergies to cashews and pistachios, which can sometimes make dining out stressful. Gabriel handled everything with confidence, care, and attention to detail. He walked us through the menu, offered thoughtful recommendations, and made sure everyone at the table felt comfortable and taken care of. The ambiance was beautiful, warm, and inviting, and every dish we tried was outstanding. We started with the naan and the Weiser Farms crispy potatoes, both of which were fantastic. The crispy rice salad and tea leaf salad were fresh, vibrant, and packed with flavor. For entrées, the coconut chickpea curry was comforting and delicious, while the organic tandoori half chicken was perfectly cooked and incredibly flavorful. We also enjoyed the duck breast, which was beautifully prepared and a standout dish. Dessert was just as impressive. The mango lassi ice box pie was bright, refreshing, and unique. We also loved the sticky rice donuts, especially paired with the pink guava sorbet and sesame gelato. What stood out most was the level of service. Gabriel struck that perfect balance of professionalism, knowledge, and genuine hospitality. The entire experience felt elevated and effortless, honestly the kind of service you expect at a Michelin-starred restaurant. We'll absolutely be back and will be recommending The Dutchess to everyone we know.

We came here for dinner at a colleague of my wife's recommendation. We did not have reservations,…read morebut they still sat us quickly at one of their outside/sidewalk tables. The sidewalk tables are comfortable and the ambiance casual. Service was efficient and friendly. They have an extensive wine list, but we stuck with water. It seems the menu is prepared daily, as the cover of the paper menu had today's date on it. Dishes were a combination of traditional and innovative, with many vegan and gluten free options. We chose the Coconut Chickpea Curry, Zuckerman Farms Asparagus & Snap Peas and Wok Fired Beef Satay. The dishes were visually appealing, served hot, and brought to our table as they came out of the kitchen. You can tell they use fresh, quality ingredients and combine them in a sophisticated way. All good... except that I found the Asparagus and Satay dish overbearingly salty. Unfortunately, the saltiness overpowered all flavors in these two dishes.

The Farmer and the Cook -- Fresh Finds Off the Main Road…read more I'll be honest, I wasn't sure what to expect walking in for the first time, but The Farmer and the Cook won me over pretty quickly. It's bright, clean, and has this easy organic warmth to it... the kind of place that feels like it was put together by people who actually care. Right off the main road, easy to find, and the family vibes are real. It's the kind of spot you want to linger in. If you're navigating dietary restrictions, this place is a quiet goldmine. Strong gluten free options, a genuinely vegan friendly menu, and plenty of vegetarian choices too... so everyone at the table actually gets to eat something they're excited about. That's rarer than it should be. The food? Solid. I went with the raw tacos, sopes, and huarache; all filling, all fairly priced for the area. The raw tacos especially surprised me... fresh, flavorful, and not in a "I wish this was a real taco" kind of way. These hold their own. Service was quick and most of the staff had a warm, genuine energy about them. The one small snag; the cashier seemed to be having a rough one. A little gruff, made me feel like my first visit was mildly inconvenient for them. It happens, we all have bad days, but first impressions do stick a little. Overall though, I'm absolutely coming back. There's more on that menu calling my name and an atmosphere that makes it easy to slow down for a bit. Whether you're vegan, gluten free, or just looking for something fresh and honest... this one's worth the stop.

A really difficult review to write. On the one hand, decent food, and decent environment…read more On the other hand, very dramatic and poorly managed "community" space. I was poisoned there with food that I am allergic to by a spiteful employee. Management not only never apologized, they never did anything. The results were lab tested. I went over and above to give them a chance to be civil and professional, and they came up a complete blank. So sad
