This place just wasn't for me. I think it reels a lot of customers in having had guy fieri in there before. The ambiance is too much for me personally. It's past kitschy and onto campy. The decor is crowded and not cohesive. It feels cluttered. The tables are and walls and seats are sticky even when clean. It just all seemed a bit...dingy. They had that fun little peg game to play to keep you busy but half of them are missing pieces and they are also really dirty. We ordered hot chocolate (yum) and some basic breakfast items. My husband really liked his items. He said he would give his at least a 4 stars, but this is my yelp review lol. My food was very bland and not flavorful. I could have made the same thing at home. I don't mind spending money. In fact, I love going out to a good breakfast, but it has to be a good breakfast. If it's subpar it's really a waste of money and calories for me and that what I feel this experience was. I think I got "crunchy" French toast and it had mildly soggy corn Flakes on it. The idea was fun but the execution wasn't great. My husband simply ordered meat, eggs and potatoes. It was okay, nothing to write home about. Take what I say with a grain of salt and maybe try it for yourself. It could have been an off day for the kitchen or staff? The food was mediocre at best. We ordered the chili verde omelette with hashed browns, side of bacon, coffee and orange juice. The coffee was very watered down, not flavorful. The orange juice was from concentrate and our food was served lukewarm, like it had been sitting under a warmer. Nothing tasted fresh. The service was good. The ambiance was ok, not very clean. What a hidden gem. Came on a Tuesday afternoon with 1 hour left before closing. Ordered the chorizo omelette, one blueberry pancake, one chocolate chip pancake, and half a grilled cheese sandwich with potatoes. Chorizo omelette was hearty and not oily. Came with refried pinto beans and potatoes. Pancakes were fluffy, flavorful, not dry at all. Grill cheese also was toasted well and had a good quantity of cheese. Potatoes were the best part because it's crisp, yet not mushy nor soggy. Workers also are welcoming and served us with a big smile. Hopefully will stop by again if we're here. read more

Been here 3 times now and finally decided to write a review. I had the Corned Beef Hash the first time since it was highly recommended and it was delicious! When it came to the choice of biscuit or toast, I tried biscuit the first time and it was very soft and warm but the jam and cream didn't go too well with the biscuit. I got the Chile Verde Omelette the second time and I didn't particularly like it too much. I did like the toast with the jam and cream this time! The third time I came back for the Corned Beef Hash and turns out the biscuit comes with gravy if you ask for it! The Biscuit with Gravy was heavenly! Featuring friendly service and good bites all around, I've enjoyed this charming spot every time I've dined here. They have a nice outdoor patio, but be advised there are usually dogs, so if you prefer a "fluff-free" dining experience, opt for indoors, which stays nice and cool, even during warmer weather days. Also, extra points for the crunchy French toast I ordered on my last visit! A fun side note: even though I'm definitely more of an Anthony Bourdain fan (relating to his local, authentic) food critic style, Guy Fieri has featured this spot on his show & I can see why: the pancake roll deserves a highlight, for sure! Came here with my wife for her birthday, we had better expectations of the food, but we were disappointed. Food was OK, unsure what was the hype about this place. We had the Mexicali which I didn't really enjoy it. The avocado had some brown in it, which was not acceptable. Service seemed very rushed which we do not like either. Servers were really attentive and helpful in choosing from their huge menu. They are known for their home made strawberry jam. And pancake roll! For drinks I got the iced tea which was pretty good but I highly recommend adding strawberry jam! I also got the pancake which was nice and fluffy but wasn't life changing. Just good ol fashioned pancakes. The club sandwhich was pretty good nice toast and love the bacon. Pancake roll was soooo good. It is a pancake rolled up and covered in yogurt and fruits and nuts. My husband and I stopped in for a late breakfast on a Saturday morning. Not being locals, the small crowd of people standing outside was an indicator that this was the spot to go to. Despite the crowd, we didn't wait more than ten minutes before we were seated. Service was prompt and friendly. The food all smelled delicious. We tried: Burritos: Two simple breakfast burritos filled with choice of meat (bacon ftw), scrambled egg, and cheese. Topped with sour cream, avocado, and a mild pico de gallo, these were yummy though super basic. The beans that come on the side, however, are the unsung hero of this dish. Soooo rich and flavorful. Potatoes: Crispy, charred, and absolutely delicious. Pete's potato game is on it. Chile Verde omelette: My husband ordered this as it is subject to availability. The chile verde was tangy and super good, with tons of gooey cheese folded into the egg. It was devoured. Strawberry jam: Came with my husband's side of toast. It was super super sweet and SO good on the buttered sourdough. Warning: I have been craving it since we ate it. The food was generously portioned and heavy, which made it good fuel for a hike afterwards. My friend's family has been coming here for over 40 years; it is one of their favorite spots for breakfast in Ventura! The service was friendly and pretty prompt. The place is small, cozy diner, but they have since added a patio, which has a charming water fountain and lots of shade. I only tried one thing since we split the breakfast, but it was really good. I love this restaurant and also love that it has a dog friendly patio. The food was absolutely delicious with no complaints. We are a huge fan of their biscuits and homemade jam. The biscuits are warm and so fluffy yet firm. The jam is sweet and had real fruit pieces in it. You can definitely tell it's homemade. ALSO I highly recommend the cinnamon roll. The cinnamon roll is only available on the weekends I believe and we were so lucky because we got the last one! And OH MAN this was the BEST cinnamon roll I have ever eaten!!! I came here with two of my friends when we were up visiting Ventura, and this was a breakfast place one friend had mentioned we should visit. We had to wait for about 15 minutes, which passed by quickly as we spent the time at the video game second hand shop right across the street. We were promptly seated, and because of the business of the place it took some time to get our orders, which I don't blame them for. But boy oh boy were these food portions absolutely humongous. I ordered the breakfast burrito and could only polish off one of them - I especially enjoyed the sour cream and avocado slices provided. The potatoes and beans were also pretty good. Very standard but yummy fare. Overall, a solid breakfast option if you are in the area. Came here on a Saturday morning and it was fairly busy but there was open seating on the patio so we got seated right when we walked in. The staff is very friendly and we were served quickly. They also have outdoor seating and it was a nice day and that would've worked also. A nice young gentleman came by right away and we ordered coffee and water. Our server with Mitch and I asked him some questions and so did my husband and he answered them. I had huevos chili Verde, came with some delicious potatoes and I decided not to include the beans. I also got corn tortillas, but you can also have flour. my husband got a ham, bacon and sausage omelette with the potatoes and English muffin. I love coming to Pete's breakfast house whenever I am in Ventura!! They have a cute patio for warmer days and a good sized indoor dining room which has a lot of vintage charm. I love both their breakfast and lunch. I've had their pancakes, avocado toast, biscuits, and potatoes, and all are amazing! You can tell they use high quality ingredients and the portion sizes are great. I don't love eggs, but have also heard great reviews from friends and family about their omelettes. Sometimes spots on Yelp can be really popular when you compare it against other places nearby. Definitely not the case for this location. This review is long overdue. We have visited at least half a dozen times, maybe closer to a dozen. Every time we have been it's great! I always get the huevos rancheros and a side of bacon. I also get a biscuit. The huevos rancheros is so good. The beans are flavorful and everything is cooked perfectly. Their bacon is so crispy and not greasy. The biscuits are made daily and pair wonderfully with their homemade strawberry jam. Other family have gotten different menu items and all have been good. My husband said the coffee is good also! Love the service which is always fast and helpful. The inside is cute and on the smaller side so we have had to wait occasionally. I don't mind since I know I'm going to have a fabulous meal. I had the cheese omelette with avocado and it truly was as advertised- stuffed with cheese. One person loved their chili verde breakfast burrito. It was huge! Service was fast and excellent all around. Hardworking team keeps food and people moving so the waits are short. And really affordable, more so when you see the amount of food you receive. My new favorite restaurant! I cannot describe how much I love this place. I saw how highly reviewed it is and now I know why! We went there for a late breakfast. I got the Breakfast burrito plate. It comes with two burritos, beans, and some unbelievably good potatoes. Those potatoes blew my mind. You can get the burritos with either bacon, sausage, ham or veggies. Our server, Marla, suggested I get a sausage-bacon combo. She wasn't wrong. They were amazing. Whoever is back there doing the cooking crushed it. Everything was made right. Hats off to the crew. The place itself is so cool. Lots of interesting things to look at and some signs on the wall that literally made me laugh out loud. The thing that really sealed the deal for me was the people who worked there. They were slammed and yet none of them let that get them down. And even though they were in constant motion, they were always cheerful and ready to help. I live about 45 miles from Pete's but I will definitely be back for all of the above reasons but also because apparently the cinnamon rolls are spectacular and there were all gone by the time we got there at 12:15, so I would recommend getting there early. Lori and Jen were the sweetest supporting us with our online order of yummy sausage breakfast burrito and veggies omelette both with potatoes. Admired how they checked into make sure my omelette was diary and onion free per my request they thoughtfully honored. Food came out quick hot and fresh for us to enjoy. Lots and lots of outdoor seating with heaters for warmth as well. Will return again and again to this mid town Ventura gem. In the future, will appreciate more gluten free bread options. What an amazing place to eat breakfast! It's an old fashioned mom and pop kinda place with the sweetest waitresses to match. The food is outstanding. I got the biscuits and gravy, eggs, bacon, and sausage and it was so good! My eggs came out scrambled instead of over easy and it was a simple quick fix to remake them. I think the best part about it is that my sister and I had 2 babies (2 and 4 months) +4 kids under 10. When my baby began to cry the waitress asked to hold him. It was the nicest offer thing. Ate here for brekkie on the way north to Pismo Beach. Very highly recommended. The corned beef hash and eggs are the best I've had, and the biscuits were amazing with the hash and also had to order another one to eat with their homemade jam. This is now our brekkie spot when we need to leave Los Angeles early to travel north along the coast, or just to visit the Ventura area which is nice to visit in on its own.
