Excellent under the radar lesser-known hidden gem for Vietnamese-western fusion. This kind of fusion cuisine has been popularized here in Little Saigon with bigger names like Vox, Garlic & Chives, or Favori, but nothing beats Khoi Hung. This is especially absolutely excellent value for anyone who loves steaks. I recommend all of the steaks here including ribeye and filet mignon; they always come out sizzling on the pan and with a simple garlic seasoning. You can choose between multiple sides, too. I also suggest the halibut or mahimahi if you prefer fish. The environment is no-frills and down to earth; it's truly casual dining but for excellent cuisine. Been here twice now and I have yet to eat anything I didn't like. It's located in a very small plaza with limited parking. Came here on a Monday night one time and I almost just had to go elsewhere because there was no parking available but luckily the universe heard my plea to devour another bite of the garlicky and buttery cuts of meat that are freshly prepared at Khoi Hung, and a parking spot magically appeared (someone left). I've ordered the shaken beef noodles, garlic butter ribeye, and garlic butter lamb chops. As I mentioned before, you can really taste the garlic and butter they use here. Everything was delicious. I loved the soft and chewy texture of the noodles, the steak bites were tender, and the watercress salad was a refreshing addition. The rib eye and lamb chops were tasty as well. Some cuts of the rib eye were tough to chew, but overall it was fine. The lamb chops were my favorite. Juicy, tender, and flavorful. I would want to order this again. I also ate it with a side salad. Considering the competition in this part of OC, Khoi Hung punches above its weight. Their menu is pretty extensive but pretty much every entree I've ordered has been solid. In particular, the sizzling plates (especially with steak) taste fantastic. Khoi Hung can get pretty busy during peak hours, but service has been good and quick enough every time I've stopped by. The parking lot can be a little chaotic, but it's worth waiting for a spot. read more

I was near Westminister, so I had to stop by Khoʻi Hung and try the viral garlic ribeye. The place is in a strip mall and parking is tight. The restaurant is large inside, and clean and bright. I was seated at a booth and there were only 3 other tables dining since it was between lunch and dinner. The interior is decorated in an ocean theme. My good came out of the kitchen quickly. The spring rolls showed up first. They were good sized, with shrimp and veggies. The problem was the rice paper wrapping was tough and dry. They weren't freshly made. The peanut sauce was good. Next came the garlic ribeye on a sizzling platter!! The presentation is so nice. This steak comes out steaming and sizzling and smelling like a million bucks! We've been here once before years ago. It's been a while but I was craving their garlic buttery sizzling iron skillet ribeye steak. We ordered that along with frog legs, soft shell crab, chicken wings, 2 bowls of seafood udon noodles, and filet mignon shaking beef with red rice. We also had Thai iced teas and fresh squeezed orange juice and coconut juice. The ribeye was delicious, the star of the meal. Tender and buttery, sizzling upon arrival. The frog legs were huge, as were the wings. Nothing special about them. They were not marinated or seasoned at all. Just fried crispy. Same thing with the soft shell crab which came 3 per order, except they weren't fried crispy. They stayed soft, and almost soaked up the oil. Again, not seasoned. Everything fried was served with a salt, pepper and lime/lemon dipping sauce. The filet mignon shaking beef had too much of a soy sauce base sauce, and was much more salty rather than savory, which I found off putting. The seafood udon was really good and had a delicious hearty base with balls of minced crab/shrimp in it. The udon noodles were larger and slipperier than normal, but still really good. The Thai iced teas were okay... a little on the sweet side. The fresh squeezed orange juice was really good though, as was the fresh coconut juice served in the actual coconut. The Vietnamese auntie that served us was really sweet too. If we do come back in the the future, we'll skip the fried stuff and go for the sizzling steaks, and pass on the shaking beef. read more

The restaurant felt really homey when I come in and sat down. The staff were all very welcoming and friendly. Even though there was a big birthday party sat in a whole section, they were still very prompt with service and checked on me a few times during my visit. For lunch I ordered a calamari and ribeye steak. My ribeye steak came out sizzling and covered in garlic on a bed of onions. I loved cutting the steak and smearing the garlic over every bite. The steak came with a baguette or some rice. I ordered both haha. The bread was good but the rice with the sauce and steak was the star. I ended taking the bread home. Khoi Hung is a small, casual Vietnamese restaurant with a homey feel. Friends and I started with the calamari, which was pretty basic to me. Nothing really stood out, and the squid was the stick-style kind, which I personally wasn't a fan of. We shared the garlic butter and black peppercorn ribeye plates. The steaks are about $23 each and come with a small salad plus your choice of bread or tomato rice. I gave my salad to my friends, but I did try both sides. The tomato rice was really buttery and flavorful, and the French baguette was crispy on the outside while still soft on the inside. The biggest downside for me was the steak itself. The ribeye didn't have much flavor on its own, and most of the taste came from the sauce. Unless you were scooping up extra sauce with each bite, the meat tasted pretty plain. I was expecting the steak itself to be more seasoned and flavorful. The restaurant is traditional Vietnamese that serves variety of traditional dishes with fusion take of steaks. Vibe is welcoming and love the flat screens all around the store. The menu is simple. We tried #11 Com Bo Luc Lac which is shaken beef with red rice. The meat is tender the sauce is on the sweeter side. And #12 filet mignon: rare with black pepper sauce. This place is hands down one of the biggest hidden gems in Orange County. From the moment you walk in, the restaurant feels cozy and welcoming. There's plenty of seating, TVs to keep you entertained, and the overall vibe is relaxed and comfortable. It wasn't too loud at all, which made it easy to actually enjoy the food and conversation. The service was excellent. All of the staff were extremely nice and attentive, checking up on us often. We ordered the Shaken Beef Rice along with French fries on the side, and it was amazing. The beef was incredibly tender and full of flavor, literally melting in your mouth with every bite. The fries were cooked perfectly, crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Simple, but done right. We also ordered the Ribeye with Garlic Butter and got the black peppercorn sauce on the side. The ribeye was delicious, packed with flavor, and not dry at all. It was cooked medium rare perfectly and came out on a hot sizzling skillet, which made it even better. The garlic butter was well balanced and didn't overpower the steak. As for the appetizers, another standout was the chicken skin chips. I believe it was still new and it wasn't on the menu yet as it was on the wall. They were extremely crispy with a good amount of spice, maybe a little on the spicy side but still very enjoyable. The dipping sauce was very unique and paired really well with the chicken. We also tried the soft-shell crab sautéed with garlic butter. The first few bites on the outside seemed a little dry at first, but once you get closer to the body and head of the crab, it becomes very juicy and flavorful. It tasted fresh and ocean like in a good way, and the dipping sauce they provide was perfect with the crab. My girlfriend and I ended up finishing all of the food, which we almost never do. That alone says how good everything was. The prices were absolutely worth it for the quality, the service was great, and overall this place is a must-try. I'll definitely be coming back soon. Dined here for the first time today and had a great experience. The garlic butter ribeye was absolutely delicious--juicy, flavorful, and with just the right amount of fat, exactly the way I like it. The garlic butter filet mignon was also excellent if you prefer a leaner cut of steak. Clumsy me accidentally touched the hot skillet and burned my finger while moving it around. One of the staff members noticed right away and was incredibly attentive. She advised me to dip my finger in the cup of ice water, gave me some ice and brought me another water for drinking. When I asked if they had any burn cream, she went to check and later came back to let me know they had run out. I appreciated her effort and care. The shaken beef with rice was super flavorful and the meat tender as well. Since I love beef, it's a hard choice to say which one is better. I would say dependent on the mood. The food came out quickly and piping hot. Bun Rieu: 4/5. While it may not be the best bun rieu I have had in my life, it's delicious! The bowl is huge and very flavorful. In fact, it tasted like it had been sitting out a while, and I was quite disappointed. The best dish was the shaken beef. The beef chunks were tender and the sauce was tasty infused with garlic bits.
