    Thai Fried Rice with Chicken.
    Vanny K.

A hidden gem dishing out real authentic Thai cuisine. Did a little last minute Xmas shopping at Westminster Mall, and came across Thailan Be Happy. The restaurant was clean, and the staff were extremely helpful and friendly. In the times of high inflation, the staff pointed out to me today's specials, and explained to me that 80% of their dishes were $12.99 with your choice of Thai ice tea or bottle water included. As great as this sounds, I was still hesitant, because delicious Thai food in the OC doesn't exist, but boy was i surprised. While I was looking at the menu, someone's order came out and boy did I quickly realized this isn't your basic water down Thai restaurant. I ordered the pork belly, thai fried rice, pad thai with shrimp, red panang curry, and the spicy noodle with chicken. Yes, each plate was $12.99 and came with a drink each. Let me tell you, I judge every Thai restaurant by how they make their Thai ice tea, and the drink definitely didn't disappoint. You can tell it's the real deal, because they don't overly drown it in creamer because they cheeped out on buying the real tea. If this was a prelude to my dinner, I knew I was in for a treat. Every dish was delicious, authentic and rival Thai Town in West LA. I had a special request, and the chef came out and told me that she recently took over ownership and is hoping to bring authentic Thai cuisine to the OC area. She was such a sweetheart, and even understood my request, and gave us Thai sticky rice for free. PS, my request was if she could make my red curry, with the pork belly that I ordered instead of chicand let me tell you, that dish was top MF tier. Chef's Next time I'm in the area, you already know what my choice will be.

Just got some appetizers type food. Very good. Loved the sauce for the spring roll. Would come back when I'm in the area.

I was skeptical in the beginning. But the food is cheap and very tasty. Order to make and the food is hot and fresh

This is my favorite place in this mall's food court. So glad it hasn't closed, though new owner now. Highly recommend the spicy basil chicken and rice. You can ask for what level of spicy. Good, strong flavor but not too salty or oily. The big portion is already worth $12. But right now they are giving away a free water bottle or Thai tea for any $12 order, so it's a great deal! Also, the new owner or worker there, she is great and very friendly. They have other deals, too, check them out in these pics. So glad the basil chicken is still delicious and they didn't change the recipe. I will be back to try the orange chicken!! (I prefer the old way, rice and chicken separate so we get more sauce and no mushy rice, but that's ok.) Btw, if the old owners (and the previous owners, too) are reading this. I just wanted to say "hello!" and I'll miss you guys and thank you for the good food and good service for so many years! I am the girl who usually ordered spicy basil chicken in recent years. I would come back after a few months usually. I am Asian and have a round face. The lady (owner?) recognized me and always was very nice to me each time I was back. Thank you!! It's been really depressing to see this mall slowly die and more and more shops close the last few years. It's been dying for a long time. but since 2023, when they announced the plans for the future shutdown of the mall, it's been worse. But I guess it's better to change it into something useful, many people can live here, rather than just keep it a sad, dead mall where barely anybody shops there. Anyway, I'll miss this mall and this Thai place, and some other shops, whenever they finally shut down (I think sometime this year?). Thanks for all the good food and good memories!! It's a sad ending but hopefully will be a happy, exciting new beginning for the people who will live here in the future.

Each of my kids wanted something different for lunch so we came to the Food Court. We ordered the Shrimp Pad Thai, and it was ready in under 10 minutes. It was still steaming when we opened it. It was a delicious dish. The shrimp was cooked just right, and the noodles were yummy. We would definitely order again Love that it is family owned too!

Nice friendly staff here in Westminster mall. Food excellent, great customer service.

    Dumplings were crispy and delicious.

Tried Thailand Food Be Happy for the first time, and it did not disappoint! I got the Pad Thai with beef and the curry chicken, and both were seriously good. The Pad Thai had great flavor, it was cooked on the spot. Just the right mix of sweet, savory, and a little tangy. The beef was tender, and the noodles were cooked perfectly. The curry chicken was rich and creamy, with a nice kick of spice. The owner was really sweet and friendly. Definitely coming back to try more dishes. Highly recommend!

One of the few restaurants alive in westminster mall and let me tell you... they might SINGLE HANDEDLY revive westminster mall with how bomb their food is. Arguably the best pad thai i've had in orange county and i've had a fair amount. New owner is incredibly nice and lovely. I would highly recommend anyone craving thai food to come and give this place a try

I've got to say, the food and the Thai Tea were so incredible. I'm so excited to have found this place. The two woman working there were very sweet and loving. They got the out to me pretty fast. It tasted fresh and authentic as well. You've got to give them a try. I know this mall isn't full of many people, but the food here is worth the trip.

We shared a variety of dishes: -Papaya Salad: A Lao style papaya salad. Super flavorful, crisp, and fresh. Honestly great just eating it on its own. I also liked the raw crab in it which was nice to suck on. -Lao Sausage: Meaty and good. I liked how the flavor wasn't too strong and offputting. The sauce it came with was good, but a bit hard to dip in. This paired well with the sticky rice. -Crispy Fried Rice (Nam Kao Tod): Super unique dish! I liked folding the crispy rice with sour pork bits into the lettuce wraps which was fresh, crispy, and texture heaven. While the food was solid, I did think the prices were on the higher side for the area. It might be because of the ingredients if I had to take a guess. The service here was pretty good. If you don't, the flavor profile will not be hitting. Traditionally you gotta eat it spicy! The papaya salad was good and the Pad Thai noodles portion was pretty small for family style. My favorite dish was the Tom Yum for sure. It tastes very authentic and I love how they put a lot of mushroom in the soup. The spicy and savoriness was well balanced. If it's a little salty, eat it with rice. Makes a good combo! At the very end, we were very full and we had to Togo the soup. Would definitely come back again to try other dishes like the Crying Tiger and chicken curry.

What a fantastic meal! We ended up with enough leftovers for lunch the next day and I was so happy Everything was so delicious in its own way!!! The Manaoo Thai Tea (4/5): way different than a milky Thai Thea! It felt more soda adjacent and was refreshing and limey Green Curry with Beef Rib Eye & Roti (5/5): SOOO good and SPICY! Plus the roti was flavorful and crisped to perfection. Probably one of the best curries I've ever had Pad Thai (5/5): one of the best pad Thais I've ever had! A couple things to know before you go: parking isn't great, and the restaurant gets busy. We showed up around 5:00 p.m. and only waited about 20 minutes, but I could see larger parties having a much longer wait. My go-to dish is the Pad Kra Prow Eggplant with chicken. It's a Thai basil stir-fry with eggplant, onion, and Thai chilis, and I absolutely love it. We also ordered the mussel curry, which my friend picked, and it completely surprised me. I wasn't expecting to enjoy it as much as I did, but it was excellent. The standout, though, was the Khao Soi Noodle Soup with sliced rib-eye beef. Somehow I'd never ordered the dish they're most famous for, and now I understand why. It absolutely lived up to the hype. The broth with the rib-eye was incredible and is something I'd recommend to anyone visiting for the first time. My biggest criticism is that the rice portions feel smaller than they used to. With how much delicious curry and sauce you get, I found myself wishing there was just a little more rice to soak everything up. I also noticed that the green beans in the Pad Kra Prow Eggplant are very al dente. Personally, I'd prefer if they were blanched just a bit so they were slightly more tender. If the goal is to add texture, I'd almost rather see crunch come from something like cashews instead--but that's just my preference. For dessert, we had the mango sticky rice and another dessert with sweet milk dumplings and red beans. Both were fantastic and a great way to end the meal. Vibes of the restaurant are great. It's a small venue, but they work quickly, and a staff was very welcoming. Overall, Chiang Rai continues to be my favorite Thai spot in Southern California. If it's your first visit, the Khao Soi with sliced rib-eye is absolutely the dish I'd tell you to order.
