We celebrated my birthday at Nonesuch, and they did not disappoint. This was my second time there and my husband's first. He was blown away by how good the food was. They are back to doing their tasting menu and I'm so glad. We had 8 courses and the wine pairing. The chef was also kind enough to throw in a couple of extras for my birthday. Every bite was perfect and I'm still thinking about their milk bread and miso butter. It was also a quiet night so we felt like we had our own private chef table experience. The staff were all very warm and friendly, nothing pretentious even though with their food they have every right to be. read more

We dined here for a special pop-up dinner from their sister restaurant Brutø in Denver. Chef Byron Gomez flew in and curated an absolutely incredible menu with flavor pairings you would not even dream of. Service was on point. Our drinks were never empty, the staff were friendly, and chef came out to discuss each course in detail. We almost didn't get a reservation, but they were able to work some magic and squeeze us in. If I could give two points of feedback: make the courses a little bigger, or add a few courses. This was an 8-course pairing and we did leave a bit hungry. Not ideal when you spend $600 on dinner. We have been to Michelin star restaurants in Vegas, similar to Nonesuch, and had 10-12 courses but left satisfied. There was also a little confusion (for us at least) with the staggered courses. There appeared to be 3 rounds of seating, we sat at the same time as the first group as I didn't see the voicemail bumping out reservation time back 15 mins. The first group were served, and nobody told us why we weren't being served. We were just sitting there, unaware any more guests would be showing up. Once the ball got rolling it all made sense. Each small group was on a different course so it was easier on the kitchen and chef could come out and discuss said courses on a more personal level. I'd definitely recommend the fixed menu... it is definitely pricey but if you're at nonesuch you should be prepared to drop some money for an excellent experience. I am not sure how to express how much the team here blew my mind. Easily the most amazing and skillful meal I have ever had. The food was inspired and expertly prepared and presented. Depth of flavor, intentional flavor choices, simple, yet elegant. They had a pork broth over an egg custard that defies description. Velvety sublime. The bison tenderloin was a dream, the sauces were inspired. They had a lemongrass ice cream over an herb gremolata that was so good it actually kind of pissed me off. It had no business being that good. It was all just perfection. Bravo team, Bravo! The vibe was super laid back and comfortable. I just can't think of one thing to suggest as a change to our dining experience. We had a family birthday dinner for seven. We loved the room, the incredibly attentive and warm staff, the way we were listened to for those in the group with specific likes and tastes, and then there is - - the food. Several of us got the beverage pairing with the prix fixe plates. It was just a thrilling evening of a food and drink adventure, beautifully paced for enjoyment and conversation. The soup was mushroom with tofu and onion in tiny bites bathed in a flavorful broth. Bok choy salad - crunchy crispy tangy deliciousness. A ricotta and spinach pasta I could eat by the barrel, and a plate of sides - go see what I'm talking about. Among the 7 of us, we tried all four mains and couldn't get over the perfectly paired sauces, textures, flavors and colors on the plate. If I had one tiny quibble, it would be the lamb with mussels main dish I had. Incredible, and I'd order it again, but I felt the mussels were definitely upstaged by the lamb, and I didn't really taste them as a separate element like one does with a typical "surf and turf." However, others in the party who had that dish thought it was perfect like all the rest of the dinner. All plates were paired perfectly with wines that complemented them. And the dessert - pure goodness. This is the dining experience that OKC had needed to add to its growing set of remarkable culinary experiences. Top notch. Could have been anywhere in the world, and it's right here. Be ready for high end culinary stuff in a laidback but seriously foodie setting, and you'll love it. This was our second yearly visit for my birthday, and was just as good as we remembered! The food was delicious! Yes, the dishes are small, but that is what I usually expect at a chef's tasting menu. We came to our 5:30 pm reservation a little early which meant we were the first to get the dishes (instead of having them spoiled by the other diners) which was fun! A few favorites: the oyster mushroom is sooo flavorful, carbonated black tea with rosette cookie was super tasty, and getting to eat a full pretzel with beer was filling! But I don't want to ruin your surprise- you have to come and try it. They also change their menu every quarter. I also liked how quickly the dishes came out; the entire 10 course meal took about 2 hours. The servers and chefs were so nice too! I would come every quarter if I had the money... lol. Alas must settle for once a year! Tip #1: order one wine tasting for a party of 2; they will refill glasses and give generous pours! (Compared to Grey sweater where we only got a few mL per pour!) Tip #2: celebrate a birthday or anniversary here! You get an extra dessert course and a signed card. An overdue review. Went to this location for my birthday and at the end of the night they gave me a birthday card by hand signed by the staff which I really appreciate it. Such a kind gesture. Amount of protein to price comparison is not fair in my opinion. A lot of the dishes were creative in taste and in look. A lot of the ingredients were infused and transformed in a way that was surprising to try. Overall experience itself was worth it, I could see a lot of thought and experiment went into it. Only complaint were the drinks. Certain places serve a drink per dish throughout the night however for this location a glass of drink expected to last at least two dishes which makes you ration it out. For the prime price point I would expect to have enough drinks served. It was mentioned to us that they were running low on the drinks and the pours started to get less and less even tho we purchased the pairings. At some point pairings were only enough for a single sip per dish. Unfortunately it doesn't even allow you to sip on it and enjoy while waiting in between dishes and get the taste of the infusion without the food itself. They could've prepared better if they knew pairings were not enough to accommodate their volume of customers. I've never been to a place where the amount of the drinks rationed so strictly and dictated. read more

I ate here to celebrate the New Year with my best friend and really enjoyed their take on a Chicken Fried Steak. Service is top notch, this team clearly loves what they do. The only protein I had that night was a small slice of bison. I did enjoy the wine pairing. I understand there is limited space in the restaurant. nonesuch is definitely a unique experience that you won't find elsewhere in Oklahoma. This little "Michelin style" restaurant is quaint, small and intimate. This is a perfect setting for a really nice date. The set up is a "U shape" bar top sitting area overlooking the kitchen. At this time due to COVID-19 temperature checks and mask required in the restaurant and there is space in between each party. The experience was pretty good, a lot of good dishes but also several questionable one. However everyone's taste is different so it is pretty subjective. I found the wine pairing fairly weak. The staff even mistakenly described an Italian wine while pouring it to us but upon examination of the bottle we found out it was actually a French wine. No big deal, but we expected a bit better from such an establishment. Overall the ambiance and setting provided a good experience. The dishes were good for the most part. My wife and I, along with another couple stayed in downtown OKC for date night. We made reservation at Nonesuch quite a while in advance. First of all, the service is extremely attentive. From the host that checked us in to the drinks and 10 individual courses. Every person was very friendly and super accommodating. Loved that! Regarding ambiance of the place... it's a very dark / gray place. It's like everyone sits around a U-shaped bar. The spot-lighting on the eating area was cool and plenty to see what you're eating. Otherwise, no art on the walls, and no background music that I could hear. Very plain - on purpose I suppose. I understand the focus is the food being served at each course, and not the room. Our primary server promptly asked us for drink orders, and showed us the cocktail menu. All was well - and they had some very interesting cocktails. Although expect to pay a premium for drinks. Regarding the food... I wouldn't actually call this a dinner venue. It's a tasting venue. It's like getting a flight-of-wine, but 10 courses of food. The only hitch is that you cannot order more of something that you find delicious. The portions are bite sized nuggets of goodness. Very small... presented in an extremely beautiful and flavorful way. We definitely tried different vegetables / flowers / herbs / reductions that I would have never thought of... and I'm a foody who likes to try most anything. Each course is delivered by a server or chef or kitchen staff member who really knows what is on the plate. Everything is explained in detail. Again, as a foody, this was cool and very interesting. I can honestly say that I loved each of the courses and would have been grateful for the opportunity to buy a regular portion (even to take home) of some of them. Why 4 stars? Because you're paying for the experience and multitude of flavors and the ability to try beautiful pieces of art. Not the ambiance, and definitely not the price to food ratio. Nonesuch, where to even begin... I first heard of nonesuch when I came out to Oklahoma for an extended work trip. My coworker had actually already put his name down on the waitlist months in advance (there's actually a waitlist to even make a reservation) and had just received a confirmation that he was cleared to make a rezzie. By the time I had read up and seen a variety of accolades bestowed upon nonesuch - including "Best Upcoming American Restaurant" by Bon Appetit, the hype had built up to seemingly insurmountable levels. Upon arrival, nonesuch is easy to miss from the outside with its unassuming and toned down exterior. Only one plain line of text marks this building as the place you are looking for. Once you enter, any preconceived notions about it being a stuffy, super-formal, fancy restaurant are quickly put at ease. Essentially all the seating is centered around a massive bar where you can clearly see the food being prepped in the back and have casual conversations with your dining companions and the chefs as they bustle about. For our first trip, we went with the 10 course tasting menu and non-alcoholic drink pairing. My logic was that I didn't want any alcohol to potentially dull the experience. This ended up being a good choice as their non-alcoholic pairing essentially had all the nuanced flavors certain alcoholic drinks have but minus the sharpness of alcohol. As an example, the opening drink was a Sourdough Tea that smelled, looked, and tasted very close to an IPA - which made sense given the ingredients, but it just allowed a better appreciation of the food itself. Instead of going through each dish, I will highlight the absolute standouts: - Airy Danish with Yogurt and Blossoms: Part of the opening "snacks" courses, this dish greatly aided in roping diners in. This danish is shockingly light and the classic pairing of crispy and creamy works wonderfully together. - Bison Tartare Sweet Potato Crisp: Part of the opening "snacks" courses, this was by far my top three favorite dishes of the night. Presented beautifully in a crisp, sweet potato skin vessel and topped with vibrant purple cubes made from butterfly pea flower, the slightly sweet element complemented the raw bison hiding in the bottom quite nicely. This was the dish that audibly made me exclaim "wow!" - Herb Waffle with Fresh Cheese, Ground Cherry, Tomato, and Caviar: Everything about this dish screams decadence. From the rich cheese spread to the vibrant caviar, I'd imagine this is how the uber-wealthy enjoy their waffles in the morning. All jokes aside, this waffle managed to be both crispy on the outside and soft on the inside - a perfect receptacle for the creamy spread. The slight pop of the briny caviar helped cut through some of the richness. - Bison Pithivier with Blueberry Gastrique: Sweet and savory go hand in hand here with their unique house-aged hot sauce blueberry gastrique that tops a pastry hiding generous amounts of bison filling. As tasty as it looks! - Barbecued Quail and Grilled Greens: This dish embodies the mantra here at nonesuch. Good food can be casually enjoyed - like with your hands. No knife was provided here and they actively encouraged digging in with your own two mitts. Another one of my top 3 dishes here, the dry aging process brought out more flavor from this bird and allowed even the white meat to be moist and tender. Make sure you sop up some of the sauces they provide on the plate with your quail morsels. Just superb! - Warm Spring Flora Tea Alongside Honey Snap Cookie: A surprise transition dish that kicked off the dessert round, this blue colored tea is not only the most unique tea I have ever had, but also the most aromatic. Made from a local blend of flowers - including the aforementioned butterfly pea, nothing could have been a better match to the homemade honey snap cookie that deserves its own shoutout. Buttery, soft and addicting, this is not some old, hard cookie you see in those tins. Hats off to the baker of this cookie! - Strawberry Sorbet with Rosella: One of the closing desserts of the night, and the final top 3 contender, just the idea behind this dish was something that left me in awe. A delicate strawberry sorbet is presented to you and while you are admiring it, they pour a light, rosella liquor over the creation. This entire presentation essentially gave the vibe of a deconstructed strawberry - down to the "seeds" embedded in the sorbet. Believe the hype surrounding nonesuch as our experience was less so a meal as it was a culinary journey. I will be back in the spring to try their spring menu and I eagerly await the day I can step back into this legendary restaurant! read more

In short, nonesuch is singularly the best restaurant in the state of Oklahoma, and easily one of the top restaurants in the country. You would be missing a great opportunity if you passed through OKC without making a detour for the excellent cooking at nonesuch. I have to agree with an earlier reviewer who said, "this place is definitely missing a Michelin Star." I would say it's missing two or three of them. Nonesuch is dining par excellence. I mean, I'm still thinking about it actively, four months on. Every member of the team is dedicated to food and to the art. I had the fortune of dining with someone much better versed than I in fine dining (they had tried all but two of every Michelin star-rated restaurant in NYC) and they said this was easily an experience comparable to what you might expect at some of the best in New York. Hands down, the best duck he had ever had, period. The highlight? We cried. Me and both of my dining partners. I would have thought saying that would be just silly, or just for emotional people, just an exaggeration. No. When we tasted the pasta, we had tears in our eyes, it was so good. I now look at my life as the period before and after nonesuch, and all I can say is that, unfortunately, food has never tasted the same nor even come close. I will say, while the menu was very duck-centric, and some dishes (especially drink pairings) just didn't hit all the right notes, there was nothing that made this restaurant anything less than a 5/5. To make my spouses birthday feel extra special, I booked us reservations at nonesuch. Even thought I'm a native OKCer I've never visited, but after visiting Flagstaff House in Boulder CO, I was kicking myself for not giving nonesuch a chance sooner! One thing I appreciate about this upscale dining experience: the dress code of "come as you are" which translates to "dress up if you want" but it isn't required. When I'm enjoying good food I prefer to be in a relaxing environment as well as wearing attire I can feel full in. My highest compliments to the chef and staff as the flavor infusions were unique and derived from Oklahomas signature herbs, foliage, flora, and the like. I also appreciated then friendliness of the staff but no one was overly talkative, which is great because of you engage me, I will certainly talk back. This is the type of dining experience where the center of the conversation is going to be the food, as it should be. At the end of our meal, we were presented with a Swiss roll style lemon olive oil cake in honor of my spouses birthday - which was very thoughtful, as the staff overheard us talking about the birthday they had the forethought to bring out an extra special treat. 10/10, we will return. Based on April 2019 Visit. First of all, getting a reservation was an effort. Given Bon Appétit's article, reservations were a hot commodity. In all, I ordered two tasting courses with one wine-pairing for about $300. Atmosphere: 3/5 - The atmosphere was odd, to be honest. It was a sleek bar with a beautiful, rustic kitchen in the back, but they had loud, rock-and-roll-ish music, which tainted the environment. Service: 3/5 - Our server was friendly, but there were some friends of the chef at the bar eating with us, so lot of the attention was spent with them and it took away from our experience as it took a little while just to get my water glass refilled. Food: 5/5 - not everything was a "best bite I've ever had" moment, but for the most part, I enjoyed the menu. Here's are the highlights and lowlights of the menu: Highlights: -Green Garlic Custard with Morel Mushroom: the richness and tenderness of the morel mushroom is unreal and paired with the brightness from green custard, it made for a fantastic bite. -Grilled Brassicas with Onion Jam: I am a massive fan of jammy onions, so that paired with the veg and topped with some crunchies left me wanting more. -Dan Dan Noodles: one of my favorite Szechuan dishes, so I was stoked when I saw it on the menu. I wish the chili sauce had more heat, but it was great nonetheless. (side note: you can get this dish at Yummy Noodles, which rivals theirs) -Pecan Macaron with Brown Cheese Caramel: macarons tend to be so sweet, but these weren't, which I loved! -Pecan Ice Cream, Chocolate Curd, and Pecan Milk Crumble: think pecan pie, but exponentially better. Lowlights: -Asparagus with Lardo: the lardo was fatty and coated my mouth with this slickness that I didn't find enjoyable. -Baguette with Chicken Liver Mousse: I love pâté, so I was excited to try this, but the almost freezer serving temperature was off-putting. -Barbecued Quail with Grilled Greens: I grew up eating quail, so what was served was nothing different from what I grew up eating. I've had some amazing quail before, so it left me wanting something more from it. -Yogurt Granita, Cucumber, Spring Flower: given the mild flavor of yogurt, it becomes overwhelmingly cucumber, which left it a bit monotonous as a dish. Balance. Harmony. Flowers. Darkness. This is the mantra I felt while being in this establishment. Ever since I saw bon appetit place this in high regards, I knew I wanted to try it. While I wont say my experience was magical, Im glad OKC has an establishment that emulates modern cuisine. Below is a layout of what I had and my thoughts. I had this meal back in July, so I was quite lazy in getting this posted. Gazpacho with compressed melon. Fantastic! Possibly the best gazpacho I've had? The melon is sweet and floral, yet the bold spicy paprika stands out the most. Thr corn custard is super savory cause of the smokiness. But the pickled rind gives it the necessary sweetness and acidity. Feels like eating vegan bbq puree. The tomatoes in shishito foam and chive flower and mung flower with pickled okra. Everything needed each other. That spanish tortilla was like a souped-up chicken, without any chicken meat. I love the interplay of kimchi and blackened fruit purees. Simple in concept at the surface but so much thought put into its execution. The mushroom spinach ravioli is pure ecstasy. From the texture of the pasta down to the insanely savory mushroom, ai could have eaten 50 of these The pork tenderloin was poorly executed. Too dry. The mustard was my favorite part. Plums didn't do much. This is was probably my least favorite offering. The sweet potato bread was fantastic. Feels familiar, but its approach of sweet potato bread, dewberry jam , and smoked blueberry powder offers a mild sweetness that would have been like a fruit donut if they added sugar. The bison was wonderful. Nothing overly complex but definitely satisfying. The mornay sauce and jalapenos make me think this is their take on tex-mex?? The queso mouth feel, pickled jalapenos, and grilled cut off meat seem that way. The jasmine and hibiscus with honey with a vanilla bean custard tart thing. This transported me to a garden with every sip. The vanilla really brought the lower tones and made it complete. I wanted to just sit on a porch and consume this, with no concern in the world. The strawberry dessert was awesome! Different textures and approach to a very berry meal. The peach cobbler popsicle sounds great on paper, but it wasn't as exciting ad it could have been. The creme fraiche does not pop when its cold. The frozen yogurt version that's loose in a bowl I thought was better, as the acidity elevates everything. read more

Talk about an experience! Every foodie needs to experience Nonesuch! We enjoyed the cozy, comfy atmosphere and the menu that was personalized to our needs. Our servers were very knowledgeable about the ingredients and flavors presented in each new dish. There were 10 courses and they were very satisfying! The flavor combinations wowed us! I would never put some of those flavors and ingredients together myself, but the chef did and they were amazing!!! They also added a special cherry cheesecake course fir my birthday! I've been wanting to try Nonesuch ever since I saw it placed on Bon Appetit's year-end list in 2018. Took me a few years, but it was definitely worth the wait! We made a reservation a couple months ago, timed to when we'd be back in Oklahoma for the holidays. When I made the reservation, I noted on Tock that I had a gluten sensitivity and that if replacements were possible, I'd prefer that, but if necessary, I could eat a little. Their site says they can modify the courses to be gluten-free, so I was surprised when we arrived and the hostess told me there hadn't been enough notice for gluten-free substitutes. I was a bit surprised at this price point they couldn't accommodate--especially when I'd made a reservation weeks in advance--but that's really the only complaint I have for the whole experience. From the moment we sat down, all the servers were so attentive and knowledgeable. We were served an apertif immediately. No matter who dropped off a dish or poured a new glass of wine, they knew exactly what was in it and were quick to answer any questions we had about it. Every single course was amazing! Our favorite was the bison carpaccio with kimchi and the Thai chocolate bomb. We also opted to do the reserve wine pairing, and while we really enjoyed all the selections, if we were to go back, we'd probably go with the regular wine pairing or get cocktails--a couple people ordered them near us and they looked fantastic! Overall, I'm so happy we got to try it! I can see why Bon App raved about it! As soon as my husband's coworkers learned that he and I were foodies, they told us we needed to go to nonesuch. Having moved to OKC from Indianapolis, we had pretty high expectations. The nasturtium flower was one of the coolest things I've eaten. I'm glad I asked whether or not we should eat the entire flower, because I would not have eaten the stem, which gave it such a well-rounded experience. The lovage waffle was really good! The wines were mostly just okay. You would get refills if you finished before your course(s) with which it was paired. The food was creative and pretty darn good. The service was also above average. I have to take a star away for value's sake. It was NOT worth the money we paid for the meal. read more

It doesn't look like much walking past, but once inside you're greeted warming and taken to your seat at the bar. Once you're seated, they begin serving you the most delicious 10-course meal. My tastebuds are so happy! We left full and extremely happy!! read more

I had extremely high hopes going in, understanding that this was more about experiencing the chefs' food presentation and interpretation than feeling full from a meal. Every expectation was met. The atmosphere invited you to be a part of the process and you are. There were a total of 10 courses, and we opted for the wine pairing (highly recommend). Service was great, as was presentation. I'd say I thoroughly enjoyed 8/10 courses, but I don't expect to like everything with that many different options. It was a beautiful experience from start to finish. I will definitely go back, trying to hit each season as I anticipate new flavors due to seasonal changes. read more
