The name of the owner,Jason Mladenovic, has a last name that is probably eastern European, but his roots are Greek operating an Italian restaurant. With this broad diversity, Jason has built his experience working in the restaurant industry since he was 15. He worked for his father first, then his father in law and now for himself. This kind of experience couple with passion to cook, blends in perfectly to create amazing food. Everything in the restaurant including meat and sea food are fresh and not frozen. First time here. Came with a large Meetup group, there were 15 of us. We took up the entire middle. There are 4 or 5 booths and maybe 5 tables total. Nonna's is not a large place. There is one server. She was amazing, I have to say. We had a reservation and the table was set for us with silverware and menus. Our server brought waters and asked if we had any questions. They had quite a few specials for the night. Since this is an Italian place, many of us had pizzas. I had the eggplant, ricotta, tomato and olive 10in pizza. I changed it up as I'm not found of tomatoes by omitting them and having it with garlic sauce. I also ordered a basket of sweet potato fries and garlic bread to share with the table. I wasn't expecting the basket of fries to be HUGE! Nor the bread to be an entire 12in loaf. Both were delicious. My pizza was perfection. The crust just the right amount of buttery chewiness, the sauce fragrant, the ricotta was melt in your mouth, the thin bread eggplant...divine! I truly was in heaven eating it. I laughed as I mentioned to my dinner companions how once the food came, it became eerily quiet. A true sign of everyone totally engrossed in their food. I'll definitely be back. I don't usually come down this section of Route 5 very much, but I had a Groupon for food & drinks for 4, so we asked some friends to join us last Saturday for an early lunch. I'm not usually ready for Saturday lunch until 2, but our friends had a tight schedule and so we got there between 11:30-12. Had no trouble parking or getting a table, as we were the only ones there. Not surprised, cuz who gets pizza at 11:30am? Still, it was nice to have the place to ourselves. There appeared to be one gentleman working, the place having barely opened for the day. He was very attentive and friendly. Accepted my Groupon voucher with a smile and welcomed us to our first meal at Nonna's. While there were several things we wanted to try from the menu, we decided to stick with pizza for the first visit. I mean, "pizza" is in the name of the place--and you can never have enough good pizza places on your Go-To list, amiright?? The husbands shared a large pizza with bacon, sausage, and pepperoni. My friend had a specialty pizza (Greek/Grecian?) and I ordered a small pizza with jalapeños, bacon, and feta. I know. What's with me and the bacon recently???? We all shared an appetizer of cheesed-up garlic bread, which was scrumptious! Then our pies came...and they were all fantastic! Very tasty sauce (tomato but with a depth of flavor), perfect amount of cheese (not skimpy, not gobbed on), and a delicious crust! The guys absolutely killed their pizza, while my friend and I ate half our small pies and boxed the rest for home. I gotta tell you, when I ate my pizza the next day, it was even better! How can that be possible? It was already fantastic. But the next day was divine. My friend texted me the same thing about her leftovers. I'm soooooo glad to have found another seriously good pizza place, as there just aren't that many really good ones around here. And one of our favorites recently closed. Had a very nice lunch here today. Nona's is your prototypical small family-owned pizzeria restaurant - think half a dozen booths and half a dozen tables. Think a very broad menu with soups, salads, appetizers, pasta dishes, Italian entrees, fried and baked seafood, two dozen different grinders, wraps, sandwiches, club sandwiches, burgers and dogs, calzones, and 18 different pizzas. That should take care of 99% of the public. I paid $12 for a cup of lentil soup ($2.25), an Italian Wrap with fries ($7.50) and a Coke. Everything was fine. The soup was served piping hot and was delicious. The Wrap had a lot of meat on it, alongside some chopped lettuce and mayo. It was served with a small cup of good cole slaw and some excellent hot and crispy fries. Service was attentive from a friendly server. The cook chatted with me when I paid the bill, everyone was nice. You'll also get $5 off of $15 with your Yelp Check In. The only odd thing about my experience here had nothing at all to do with Nonni's. There was a mother and two real creepy looking kids having lunch in the back. One of the kids got up, looked straight at me, and walked right at me as though he was gonna pick a fight or brain me with a napkin holder. LOL, that was pretty disconcerting!! read more

It's been many years since I last dined here, shame on me as Nonna's has a very good quality Greek style pie. I ordered a small 10" pizza with sausage and mushrooms; I was pleasantly surprised it came with fresh mushrooms, not always the case in many pizzerias. Good quality cheese, sausage, a perfectly cooked crunchy bottom crust with a good pizza sauce, you just can't ask for much more. I felt the quality to price ratio at $9.45 was a very good value; I would return not only for pizza but to sample items on the dinner menu as well. Over the last few months, I have gotten take out from Nonna's around 15-20 times. I generally get the chicken tender wrap every time, as it's one thing I know is safe for my IBS. The food always tastes fresh and the chicken seems like good quality meat. The owner has remembered that I asked for extra fries instead of a pickle (even though I only asked this once or twice) and gives me the fries and no pickle every time. He also recognizes when it's me on the phone and is super friendly. The staff in the restaurant is also very friendly, saying hi or smiling. I have gotten some of the subs/grinders and they are good but cannot speak of the pizza; I can't eat it. I highly recommend checking Nonna's out and supporting local business. read more

This place has amazing italian food. For such a small place its menu is huge (bigger than chilis for example). It has everything from pizzas to grinders to classic italian dinners. The service is quick and if you become a regular you are always greeted by a friendly smile. The food is of incredible quality with hearty portions. Their main courses are delicious but I think their specialty are their mozz sticks and fries. Crispy, fresh and probably made with love by nonna herself. Heard about the place and it's very local so have it a shot. Italian Combe grinder is really good. Ordered it loaded and it was. The next night we liked it so much we ordered a pie. Ok this will never be confused with a New Haven pie but it's very good. Fresh ingredients, nice crust, not greasy or oily in the least. Almost dare I say a healthy choice so far as pizza goes. Great Daily Specials. The Chicken and Bacon Rose Pasta was very good and voluminous. Upgraded to a nice small house salad with the house oil and vinegar with herbs dressing. The hot garlic bread was very light and tasty. The creamy tomato sauce was perfect and the penne pasta was cooked just right. There was so much, I will get another meal out of it. Spaghetti noodles cooked to perfection, meatballs were honestly AMAZING, they are a MUST in your spaghetti. cheesy garlic bread was also very good! Had to get some work done on my car today, and I'm not from the area so my boyfriend and I walked over to Nonna's. The server was very nice - easily the best part of the experience. The food was simply ok. Didn't blow me away, nor was it bad. We got some chicken wings as an appetizer, and we both had grinders as our meal. His was steak, mine a chicken parm. Neither of us could put a finger on it but it just tasted like the chicken parm was missing something? Still edible, but not as good as other chicken parms I've had. Might stop again in the future to try other items on the menu if we have more car work done. read more

I stopped by this place randomly to grab lunch. The woman behind the counter was there alone (besides the cook) and had a group of 5 walk in before me. I had Nonna's Pizza for the first time tonight and I was pleased with it! It tasted great... the crust was not greasy at all and it had just the right amount of crunch. I am always in search of pizza here in CT that is similar to NY/NJ. So far, this is the closest I have found. My complaints would be that there was barely any sauce on it & the toppings were pretty sparse. We ordered sausage and there was maybe 3 little crumbles of sausage on one slice and then the slice next to it had none, the one next to it had one, etc. So more sauce & more toppings next time please! The taste was great though and the price was good. We will definitely order food from here again. read more
