My absolute FAVORITE Vietnamese place in the Monterey Bay! When I first came here soon after they opened, they were sort of mediocre. Good but nothing really stood out to me. But lately, WOW! Their udon soup and bbq tofu spring rolls are the best! As with many great places to eat, Noodle Bar used to be one of the hidden gems in the area. Now that more people know about it, the restaurant has exploded, and with that popularity, you will see a lot of reviews talking about the wait. Let me say that the wait is not long, being more a standard 10-15 minutes depending on how far into the lunch or dinner rush you have arrived. The place fills up FAST. Keep that in mind, and that they are closed on Tuesdays. My other only complaint is that they have no Salinas location (always referred to like it's some shadowy other world no one goes to) and they are not open past 8, which defeats night owls and geek culture. The food: Most things here are delicious. The Pho is always spot on, though I have discovered a more favorable dry noodle bowl for my tastes. If you're looking for something with noodles, you can't go wrong at Noodle Bar, and the staff at this location are always both watchful and kind. Of the items my wife and I have tried, all but one are fantastic: ignore the wings. You don't go to a pho restaurant for wings. You shouldn't, anyhow. Instead, get one of their BBQ pork steamed buns, which are HUGE and delicious! Their spring rolls are also really good, and inexpensive. Cost: Low. We often eat the same thing every visit, which consists of a dry BBQ pork bowl, large chicken pho, an order of spring rolls or a steamed bun, and all of it comes under $20. We spend a dollar extra for clear--sometimes referred to "glass"--noodles because they have a better consistency and are made of yam starch, rather than egg or flour. It's a far better alternative and it adds a great flavor to the pho. BRING CASH! Much like other Asian stores and restaurants, your credit card will not get you far. They have an atm you can pay to use, but otherwise bring cash. There is a Wells Fargo and Rabobank within walking distance. read more

I ordered the bbq chicken with chow mien noodle, and two spring rolls My noodles were very dry and had no flavor, the bbq chicken was dry and over cooked , my spring rolls were the best part of the meal yet the peanut sauce was watered down. They are very efficient and the lines move quickly. The service is great. I'm picky about everything and everything I have ordered has been really great. Cheap place. I heard there was always a wait... But we were lucky, a few tables were open! A regular diner here, my Uncle ordered the 5-spice chicken, his usual. BUT this night, chef was heavy on the spicy. He boxed his meal for the ride home. I ordered the rare steak pho with an egg noodle substitution. Apparently, to the chef, that meant egg noodle ADDITION, as under the pinch of egg noodles, I found a healthy serving of rice noodles. Their broth was not to my liking, no rich beef flavors or herbs... I asked for cooked bean sprouts (fail) and the veggies came with only a tiny sprig of basil (4 leaves). And if you expect service, you've come to the wrong establishment. No water refills unless asked for multiple times, or you go to the counter and ask. All in all, you get what you pay for. 4 people, 4 entrees and an appetizer, $52. I don't need to visit here again. read more

Definitely not authentic and not what I was expecting, but what I got was okay for what it was I guess. I got the BBQ pork and shrimp vermicelli, and the meats were slathered in some soy-sauce based sauce and some fish sauce I think was given on the side. Fish sauce wasn't very strong compared to the rest of the food. Noodles themselves were fine as were the vegetables, and quantity was a lot for the price. The place is nice and quaint...but the food is ok. We ordered the chicken vegetables which was a nice portion and nicely seasoned but the vegetables were a bit raw. We also ordered a large combo pho but the bowl is only a typical medium size and the noodles and meat topping were sparse. Soup was missing some authentic spices. The original Noodle Bar Restaurant location in Seaside is my favorite because of the restaurant's bar seating only, fits the name yes? But the food there and HERE is good for the price. The service here is quick and friendly. The layout of the Marina location is much larger making it family friendly. We've been doing take out for dinner at least once a week for the past few months, on those nights we're too tired from work ;) They do close at 8pm which is a little bummer being that everything in Marina closes at the same time. Noodle Bar is my absolute favorite place to get pho. I'm vegetarian, so finding a place that even serves vegetable noodle soup alone is amazing. The broth is tasty, portions are more than enough, and the food comes out quickly. I brought my grandmother here, and she is very picky. She loved her won ton soup. I love the food in this establishment, but I have a major problem with how sanitary they are. I was there last night and they had an Asian guy doing various duties which included emptying trash and providing refills to the cooks for food preparation. The problem I had was that the guy had on a pair of gloves, but he NEVER changed them in between trash disposal and food handling; this is a major food issue brewing! Also, when the wait staff brings food out they should be cognizant of people standing around waiting for orders, I felt that the food could be exposed to whatever in transit. read more

I have to say, since moving to the Central Coast, I have not yet experienced a great bowl of pho like the ones from Fresno where I used to live. For some reason, the meatballs here have a weird aftertaste. Nothing like that in Fresno. I got the recommendation to come here from a Vietnamese co-worker who says that out of all the pho places in this area, this is the one that would taste the best. I've been to Pho King in Seaside (hated it, probably won't go back), Noodle House in Salinas (the pho noodles were still not cooked all the way when they served it to us), and Saigon Noodle in Seaside. Neither have impressed me and I'm quite surprised because there's a pretty strong Asian influence in these areas. I have had Pho in Gilroy (I never remember the name) and it was decent. The pho here was just okay. It lacked a balance of meat, and seasonings. They didn't even have fish sauce out on the table. I was very, very surprised by that. The basil they brought out had some wilted leaves. I ordered the #1, which was a combo of rare steak, meatball, shrimp and chicken. I have to say, although it sounded good, I was very surprised. I think I got like 3 slices of small steak, 2 slices (yes, slices, they were thicker, but c'mon, who gives SLICES of meatballs?) of meatballs, a couple of chicken breast and two 1/2 slices of shrimp like the ones that would normally be in a spring roll. Needless to say, I was not too excited about that. The noodles were very, very soft, almost a little mushy, and the broth wasn't all that flavorful. We has also ordered some BBQ Chicken Spring rolls and those were a disappointment too. Normally, I expect SOME kind of herbs to be inside the roll, but I didn't taste any. I think it was just chicken (which was kinda dry), lettuce, the noodles with a couple of bean sprouts. Plus, they don't fold the ends, so things start to fall out as you're biting into them. Not cool :( My husband ordered the rare beef and meatball pho and his thoughts were the same as mine. In fact, when we requested for a side of meatballs, we were told it was $1 PER MEATBALL. That's insane! So with all the negative out of the way, the positives are that the staff was friendly. I really appreciated the server telling me about the price of the meatball before giving it to me and then charging me. The food was brought out very quickly and our drinks were refilled as needed w/o request. I am giving two stars just for the service, but the quality of the food was far less than impressive. I guess I will have to go to Gilroy if I'm really, really craving pho :( read more

This place gets 1 star because of the service. The tall guy with the glasses is super rude, and pretty much all of the waitresses there have half a brain. I came in and got seated quickly, but it was ten minutes before anyone even followed up to ask me what I wanted to order, I almost walked out twice. And I wasn't the only one looking pissed off, there was a couple to the left of me that kept giving me looks like "what the heck, no one is giving us service". My food finally came and was very good, but I never even got my water the whole time even though I asked for it. Meanwhile, my mouth is burning from the spicy flavors and I can't wash it down with something to drink, let alone tap water. All the food I've had is good there (been 3 times now) and the boba is very good with generous amounts of tapioca, but they really have to do something about management and service. BEST PHO in Monterey county area. Hands down. Their food never lets me down. This place is always busy so expect a 5-10 minute wait. The food is well priced for huge portions and comes out at a reasonable time. They also have a wide variety of flavors for boba lovers. They're priced at 2.50-3.50 which is decent. The staff is well trained in customer service. Overall this is the place to get your Vietnamese fix. If you haven't tried Vietnamese cuisine, I highly recommend. read more

Not sure how the food is because I called to pick up my lunch. When I arrived they wouldn't give me my lunch because it was under $10 and I didn't have cash on me. They have a $10 limit on card use so instead of them paying the fee for me to use my card and reminding me that next time the order needs to be over $10 they chose to upset a customer and not get any money on the order and throw my lunch away. Great wings. Perfect crispiness on the outside while still very moist and juicy on the inside. Good amount of spicy hotness on the wings while not overpowering the main flavor. Be careful though, the wings always come out vert hot temperature wise. I seem to always burn my mouth a little when the juices come out. Wait 5-10 minutes, I never last past 2. Great with a cold beer or 2. Chilled pint glass is nice. I have always received great service here (4 or 5 visits). It seems the staff here truely cares about doing a good job. Maybe it is the square shaped layout of the resturaunt which never leaves a customer out of reach. Bathroom was very clean this visit. I don't remember the bathroom state my other visits. Prices are great and the chow mein is good too. I would give it a 5th star but I have not tried any other items on the menu yet. read more

Marina is adrift of many good dining choices but Noodle Bar is a bright light. The food is comforting and tasty and comes quickly after ordered. They are gracious about orders if not satisfied. Even when I ordered what I thought was Vietnamese Udon but actually was regular Udon they replaced it with what I intended with a smile and all was well. This is our go-to place since they server better Asian dishes then any area we know. BUT unfortunately was different last night. I usually order the pho combo and the wonton soup. My hubby since he likes salt. Told me the soup was too salty. To hear that coming from him is rare to me. I don't know if you changed the cook or just decide to add more salt in the soup. I had occasion to visit the Noodle Bar again...as I was shopping with my daughter in the area and being right around the corner...I figured lets give the place another try...and see if the second time around was as good as the first. Sadly...it was NOT! I say "Sadly" because...I'm so accustomed to visiting places that drop several notches in quality, etc., that it's more fun writing a review bagging a place than telling you how good it was the second time. It's sort of like a first date...everyone shows up clean and fresh, dressed to the nines, make-up, best manners...etc. The entire time during the date you're looking for the cracks in the facade...looking for the "real" deal underneath the carefully executed mask. And it's usually the second or third date when you finally discover the one of the many flaws they had been hiding...the entire house of cards comes crashing down with you standing there saying "AH-HA...I knew it!" O.K., so maybe that's just me...but I'm twisted that way... ...uh, moving on... Anyway, The Noodle Bar has proven that my first time there was no fluke...in truth, I think the food was even better this time around. On our first visit the place was packed...and they had a wait for a table. This time...we walked in, were seated immediately...and the place was about 4/5th's full. But most of the patrons already had food....so beside me and my daughter, they were mostly working on to-go orders. So, both me and my daughter purposely ordered different items from our first visit...except for the egg-rolls...which again were fantastic. I had their roasted chicken and my daughter had the Chow-fun noodles. Plain and simply everything was amazing. The food came out very quickly. Was hot and everything again tasted fresh. I still can't believe that I actually enjoy eating vegetables at this place, as I don't enjoy eating vegetables anyplace. I guess I could go into more detail about each dish my daughter and I ate...but I'll be doing you a favor to simply say, go check this place out. Having had Chopstix the night before, I wanted to try a different pho place. I wanted to try this place originally since it was so close to my hotel, but it closed at 8 (according to yelp). The service was excellent. Our waitress was really cute and friendly even though it was near closing hour on Saturday night. I've been to a few places where the waiters are very rude if it's close to closing. They tend to rush you so that they can cleanup and go home. This was NOT the case at Noodle Bar. She was very patient and attentive. If you're a fan of traditional pho, I highly recommend eating at this establishment. The food was fantastic! I was with my family and the extended family and we ordered plenty of dishes. I sampled most of them and found the food to be very good. The prices here are very cheap so that's a bonus if you're on a tight budget. You're definitely going to get your moneys worth for food. The fried rice that I ordered was, in my opinion, how fried rice should be made. The boba here was good as well (even though I'm not a huge fan of the drink at all). If you're staying in Marina and craving pho, this is definitely the place to go. read more

This is our favorite pho place in the Monterey area. They have great pho with really good, savory broth. The spicy chicken wings are also a must try--super crispy and hot. It was our first visit and we loved EVERY SINGLE DETAIL of this place! First, the server was super friendly and when we told him that we had never been here he recommended their best sellers, on each section. Our meals were ready within literally few minutes, and all of them were so yum! This restaurant seems super popular but doesn't have many seats, however it isn't a problem at all I think because their service was so quick!
