I have been a long time take out customer from Noodles, Etc. After they closed their 53rd St. location, we began ordering from this one. I tended to try to avoid the U of C campus like the plague when I wasn't chained to my lab bench, but I made an exception for this place. I must admit, I haven't tried many of their dishes. I almost always order either Vietnamese vermicelli noodles with chicken (a soupy noodle dish) or ginger beef. The VV noodles are excellent with a strong garlic-y taste and the ginger beef, which comes with rice, includes fresh vegetables such as brocolli and cauliflower. My absolute favorite food at Noodles, Etc. is their potstickers. They have the best chicken potstickers I have ever taste; fried crisp on the outside and nice and tender in the center. A review for this place is long overdue. I have been multiple times and never reviewed... This week, I met a former client for lunch around lunch time. I ordered Panang Curry with vegetables and brown rice. My lunch mate ordered combination fried rice. We had vegetable samosas for an appetizer. I enjoyed every drop of curry and ate only half the rice. The service was a little slow; could have been the time -- middle of lunch hour. We enjoyed our meals nonetheless. I came in today with my mom and sister. I ordered the ramen, and halfway through eating it, I found a dead fly in my food. We alerted the staff, and they apologized. Our waitress tried to explain that the fly must have been in the vegetables that were in the ramen. Once the bill came, our waitress took $3 off the entire bill. We didn't have a problem with the other food, it was with the ramen. So I feel that the ramen should have been for free, or it should have been half off. I didn't finish the ramen, and it was the most expensive thing on our bill. I hope that no one else has to experience flies in their food. read more

Love it. I like Thai and I found it to be very delicious here. Nothing is very oily nor under or overcooked. It's not overpriced either.

there aren't many restaurants in hyde park close to uchicago... noodles, etc. is one of the closest and quickest options. it's somewhat like thai food. beware... depending on the server, some are really nice, others are surprisingly rude. through my 2 years at uchicago, i've tried several of their dishes, including: chive dumplings - pretty good, lots of chives inside (something i order from time to time). crab rangoon - not quite what i had in mind, lots of fried dough, not much filling (would not order again). pot sticker - just ok. beef noodles - the soup had bits of stuff (meat) in it, not something i prefer, but my neighbor likes it. drunken noodles - somewhat oily, but otherwise good. basil chicken - one of my regular choices for delivery. curry noodles - noodles came in an almost soup-like curry. green curry chicken - another of my regular choices for delivery/take out. read more

Not bad, definitely nothing to write home to mom about. It's decent enough to try again, it's not a profound Asian food experience, it's dumbed down Americanized noodle dishes that are semi-good, mostly decent, and fairly flavorful. My review is lack luster like the food. Just sayin. read more

I personally believe that Noodles, etc was better when it was on 53rd street. my mom got me hooked on the Chicken Pad Thai here. it definitely doesn't disappoint. Large portions, noodles are not greasy, chicken is tasty. The Shrimp pad thai is good as well. I sometimes get the crab rangoon which is just.. ok. Sometimes the crust is a little TOO hard and crusty. But, overall a nice place to grab a bite! read more

I think the food here is pretty good. I have tried the pancit, eggrolls, pad thai, fried rice, crab ragoon, etc. I haven't tried anything bad yet. Service is decent. You can usually find parking in the vicinity. Carryout, delivery and dine in and been equally fine experiences for me. If you're in the area, I would definitely try them out. read more

I like the Pad Thai here better than that at Thai 55 or The Snail. Their Pad See Eiw is also really good. The steamed chive dumplings are my favorite appetizer, but the crab rangoon, gyoza, and egg rolls are all also pretty bomb. They deliver FAST - I place an order online and they're usually there within 20 minutes, and they run up my stairs after I buzz them in, so I always tip extra well. All the servers I've ever had here (and I eat here a lot) are really friendly, attentive, and good at not spilling water everywhere which, as a server myself, I can say is easier said than done. I was on the U of C campus for a seminar in a building on 59th and kimbark. I walked over to 57th street during the lunch break. The service was fast. My waiter was very nice. I told him it was my first time and he recommended some dishes for me. I had the Pad Woon Sen. It was very good. If I'm in the area again, I would return. read more

I ate here because I saw in their menu that they have pancit, a filipino stir fry noodles which is one of my favorite. Sad to say it is nothing near the pancit I love to eat. It was some made up thing that they put together. If you don't have the slittiest idea how a pancit taste don't even offer it. They just destroyed the dish. I should teach the cook or the owner how to cook it. Such a disappointment! Now i wonder how the other dishes taste like and how they just made up the taste of it. One place I would recommend that serve different variety of dishes and authentic to the taste is Joy Yee Noodles. read more

This is my go to spot for Thai in Hyde Park. I highly recommend their curry dishes, pork pad Thai, and pan fried gyoza. I do encourage you not to order too many apps in a single sitting since many of them are deep fried and heavy. read more

Noodles, how I love thee... Let me count the ways. Pad Thai, crab rangoon, pad see ew, fried rice, Thai ice coffee... I could go on. When I crave Thai food, I don't just crave for it in general, I crave Noodles. It is a sick obsession that I never want to get rid of. Its reasonably priced, its large portions that almost always leave me with delicious leftovers, and the service is fast and friendly. I have never once waited more than 15-20 minutes for a pick-up order. Ive been eating at Noodles since the day it opened and I will never stop. I really like Noodles for both dine-in and delivery. The selection is wide and it's plenty cheap, particularly for the generous portion size. Taste wise, it's mostly not anything earth-shattering, but let me tell you, the yellow curry is my go-to comfort food. I used to go to Noodles Etc.'s other location a few years ago and really liked it, but this time it kind of disappointed me. We ordered the pork Pancit and the tofu lo mein. I can't believe there are so many poor reviews. I have never had a bad experience here. I work at U of C and often order from here for delivery. Everything has always been great, hot, flavorful, and quick. I ate at the restaurant for the first time today and another great experience. Our server was polite and very attentive; great service. I like this place among limited choices we have on campus. The location is great, the food is simple but delicious. Everything is quite sweet for me so I always ask them to serve me sugar-free dishes. Well cooked noodles are definitely delicious, like the Vietnamese Rolls as appetizer. read more

Chicken satay seemed like it had been cooked five times before it ended up in our order. Gomaae was a wet sloppy mess - the water from the spinach was not removed. We got two noodle dishes Pad Woon Sen and Singipore - both were a big oily mess and Pad dish was tasteless. Seriously, the kitchen in this place needs to have a refresher class in food preparation. read more

Noodles is highly reliable food. It's not necessarily the best, but what they do well they do so well and so cheaply that they are a clear four-star joint. A few highlights - the delicious fish patty (sort of like gefilte) that comes in your bowl of ramen; the incredibly savory beef noodles; the spicy and very sweet drunked noodles; the bright green seaweed salad. read more

For a place just called 'NOODLES' on the sign outside, you don't really expect much. Definitely don't just walk by this place and get in there to try it. Really great. Everything is made fresh to order, and it is all very good. The staff is really nice. It can get a little busy at prime lunch time, but we haven't ever had to wait longer than a few minutes. The high-top bar is actually a great place to sit - you can watch the chefs through the glass, which is how I know the ingredients are fresh! If you are satisfied with food that tastes as if it were microwaved or reconstituted this is the place for you. Quite honestly, I really do not understand how this place makes money. Look, there aren't that many choices in Hyde Park, at least there didn't used to be, but Noodles was always a good choice. It's fast and cheap and good. They keep making changes to the interior, and sometimes to the menu (for example, their biggest mistake was removing the description: "big soupy meal" from the soup section). I've been going there a long time and while there's nothing amazing about it (except that there kind of IS), it's just good in a way that I want to choose it over cough cough cough the place next door every time. These are my favorites: egg roll, crab rangoon, chicken satay, pad se-ew, and I hear good things about the ramen, pancit and banmee. And sometimes the chicken chow mien is exactly what I want: lots of veggies in garlic sauce. read more

Noodles is extremely fast and reliable if you want to grab a quick lunch or dinner. While the food isn't the best I've ever had, it's also pretty good if you compare it to other similar establishments. The prices are decent, too. My standard meal here is always fried tofu with a side of peanut sauce, chive dumplings, and seaweed salad. I've tried the entrees and other dishes too, which are decently sized and tasty, though tend to stick to my standard meal of three small plates since these are my favorite dishes here. My girlfriend and I came here for a quick lunch today, and we had a pleasant experience. We were seated and served quickly. I got the pad see ew and my girlfriend ordered the drunken noodles. The portions were large and the food was tasty, especially the pad see ew. We both thought the drunken noodles should have been spicier and have more veggies or tofu/meat. However, for the quality and quantity at one of the few places that are only steps off the UChicago campus, this place is very fairly priced. Great for a good, quick lunch. read more

I was a little disappointed in this place. Service was great & food came to our table fast & hot, but not as tasty as I had hoped. I ordered the Shu Mai & the Wonton Soup Noodle Bowl. The shrimp in the Shu Mai was almost nonexistent & the soup was bland & the wontons lacked filling. A trek to get there & too many places in between to make the trip back. read more
