Service was good and we were greeted a few minutes after we sat down. We ordered the spring rolls with pork and shrimp, chicken satay, and tom yum soup. Food arrived quickly but was a bit of a let down. The spring rolls looked like it had deli ham, shrimp and brown lettuce. The satay was good but the sauce was really thick. The soup broth was okay but it had raw onions and big tomato slices it in. All in all, not the best meal we had that weekend. The plus side was our meals were affordable. read more

I was torn between giving this restaurant 3 or 4 stars. Why? Because the food was meh. I walked in here accidentally actually, thinking I was going to a location that went viral online. It in fact, was not that lol, BUT - I stayed. I ordered their gyoza which was good, and came out in good time. I also ordered their curry fried rice and enjoyed it. I wish I didn't keep the peanuts in the order because - curry & peanuts; two different vibes lol. I also wish I ordered some of their ramen, as that was what a lot of other customers ordered. We were wonder if there is a thai place in Chinatown? Yes there is. The noodles is a Vietnamese and Thai restaurant, they ordered a wide range of options, from pho, Vietnamese sandwiches, Thai curry, Thai noodles and bubble teas. I had the pho in the past, and I decided to have the vermicelli noodle bowl. It is a dry noodle bowl with fish sauce on the side. I have picked the Shrimp and grilled lemon grass pork. I like the noodle and the veggies, but the portion is a bit small compared with the image online. The taste of the taste is good, veggies are fresh and the noodle cooked well. Both shrimp and pork chops are excellent. The only downside is size as mentioned earlier. read more

In short: Inauthentic food, Horrible Service, Will confront you about tipping. I went in for Vietnamese food, which turned out to be somewhat alright but it was not authentic. The waitress took our order, and that was the last time any staff member checked in on us. For anything that we needed, we would need to walk up to their counter where they were all having conversation rather than being out on the floor at any given point. We did not like the service so I decided to not tip. When I signed the receipt, they (2 of them) immediately looked at the $0.00 tip and told me to come back. They showed me receipts of other people that had tip and said that other people tipped. "Cash tip or card," they followed up. I said I am not tipping because I did not like their service. Then, they said "But we brought out your food," as if that was some tip-deserving service as it is actually a responsibility. They expect mandatory tipping, even when their service was not deserving. read more

The person who took my order was nice enough to realize I wanted the grilled pork and not the pork skin and redirected me to the right item so I really appreciate that. (Even though it's Viet cuisine, the menu did not have Vietnamese and I didn't know what the name of the item I wanted is in English... The staff in the front were not Vietnamese either... lol) I ordered and went off to get drinks from another store and came back to pick up my food without issue. Outside of Argyle, it's the best pho I've had in Chicago! The broth is flavorful, the noodles are plentiful and cooked well. I like the thin pho noodles. The banh mi fell short for me, but it was acceptable. The bread wasn't toasted enough and there wasn't much filling, so the ratio to bread was off. I would skip it next time and try something else. The menu is quite extensive, with a lot of Vietnamese and Thai dishes. The atmosphere and decor exceeded my (low) expectations. It was clean and they had a high chair for my toddler. The service was as you would expect, the bare minimum. They give you plastic utensils, disposable chopsticks, and few napkins. We were rushed at the end because they wanted to flip our table for the next guest. They hovered over us and cleaned our table as we were finishing. I really enjoyed my experience here. I was craving pho and was not disappointed. My partner and I came on a Wednesday evening and were seated immediately. My friends and I use to come here a lot after school. My boyfriend and I decided to revisit to see if anything has changed after all these years. Happy to report back, besides the price going up a bit, everything is still pretty much the same! Our usual orders include spring rolls (has shrimp and cha (Viet ham) inside), #44 (brisket, flank, fatty flank, tendon, and tripe pho), and the Who Wants to be a Melon-aire smoothie (a cantaloupe and watermelon smoothie lol). Overall, everything tastes the same. I would say though, the peanut sauce for the spring rolls use to have more flavor. I've been coming to The Noodle for YEARS. I wouldn't say frequently, but if I'm feeling Pho or anything specifically Vietnamese and im in the area I'll definitely stop by here. A "small" bowl is definitely not small. It's huge. Which is always great. I don't think we've ever had problems with service here either. There may have been one time when an order was wrong but everything gets fixed right away. Mistakes happen. We've dined in when it was empty, and when it's been packed. My 2 daughter's and i visited yesterday evening around 4:30-5:00 pm... I ordered the meat ball and steak pho, my other daughter ordered steak pho and my other daughter order orange chicken. Has a lot of healthy items with pretty big portions and they don't cost a lot. They also have quite a few vegetarian friendly items. Came with the woman for some good Asian food. It's not a big place but there's still a lot of tables inside. This isn't good for big groups, so don't all come together. Has a lot of authentic looking items. This is only kind of Americanized, and the items actually taste real fresh and not like some at cheap places. I had the Pad Khee Mao. It's about $10 for a pretty big portion. This has a choice of a protein, and I got tofu. It comes with pan fried wide rice noodles. These are topped with basil leaves, bean sprouts, bell peppers, carrots, jalapeños, and tomatoes. It had pretty good spice but not too much. She had the Nam Prik Pai. It's a spicy item. This comes with basil and chili pepper. Good place for Asian that's not Chinese. It may seem like there's no other choices in Chinatown but there are, such as here. The two cuisines are pretty similar but good for adding some Asian variety. read more

One of my favorite places for Vietnamese or Thai food! Some of my favorite menu items include the Pad See-Eiw with tofu and the Pho. I also always love getting the Tom Yum soup. I finally explored China town more and found this place while on a date with my bf it was sorta packed but we were seated right away. Staff took a while to take our order but when we got our appetizer of the spring roll I was disappointed..it was packed with lettuce and the meat looked..really grey? When I ate it all I tasted was lettuce even with the sauce it just tasted like peanut butter and lettuce..our pho came out and the size was amazing! The pho was super delicious and savory I loved how big the portion was and especially since it was pretty cheap too! But another problem I came across was the staff they forgot my drink and were avoiding my table for some reason I got my drink eventually and the Thai tea was delicious I loved it a lot. But when it came to paying there was a bigger problem. Originally I was charged 51$ I gladly payed but staff kept telling me about a tip there seem to be a language barrier because I agreed to tip and as I get taking out money to do so, they printed another receipt and gave it to me now my total was 60$ I was very confused and asked them why they automatically put how much they wanted on the tip but they seemed to be confused. Eventually I got upset because they started laughing at me and basically shooing me away. I payed for the extra 9$ they just took it and kept laughing not even saying thank you? I found this cute little spot in Chinatown during the Lunar New Year celebration and even though it was that awkward time between lunch & dinner it was packed! We were seated within ten minutes though & service was very nice. Our food came out very quickly, although the table was so small it was hard to fit it all. The pho I ordered was delicious and really hit the spot on a very cold Chicago day. It was also huge, so be prepared to eat a lot or take home leftovers. We also ordered an eggplant dish with beef, but were disappointed to find few eggplant and mostly beef (see photo - it's an eggplant dish so was expecting eggplant as the main part with some beef). Just brushing up on my review. I'm happy to say not a whole lot has changed here over the years AND I LOVE IT. The prices may have gone up a little bit, but what hasn't??
