The service is always decent. They prioritize sit down customers over takeout-- but that's to be expected. The food is always good. I am a fan of the Godzilla rolls. They are rather addictive but in the best way. I appreciate that they have half roll options for days when I'm not eating too much. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The ambiance is middle of the road. I just discovered this spot and I've had them 3 times! I love their sushi. The only reason I didn't give them 5 stars is because this is the first sushi spot that I've ever had where it taste cold. Every roll I've ever gotten literally is cold, even the tempura shrimp rolls, I disliked the tempura chicken rolls because they were cold, and just not very flavorful imo.. outside of this my favorite is the spicy tempura shrimp rolls, dragon maki the fried gyoza are small but so good. I am very saddened by my dine-in experience. The staff were very nice, attentive, and fast. But... I ordered sashimi set, udon, and spicy garlic ramen. And the sashimi set comes on a paper plate. And it was at this moment, I knew it was going to be bad. The fresh fish interacting with a paper plate is a disaster for taste reasons and the interaction between moist and dry. Spicy tuna maki, and sashimi was meh. The udon comes in a paper bowl. Again, hot soup and paper bowl is like mixing toilet paper and water. It's just going to get messy. In this way, the udon noodles don't get warm enough because the container can't hold enough heat. Plus, the flavors mixing with paper is not good. Last, the spicy garlic ramen has so much potential, but if it comes in a paper bowl, it's just not going to be good. it's going to have instant ramen vibes, and you don't want that. read more

This place is absolutely racist and unprofessional. I am an African American woman who went to Shinju Sushi with my two sisters after work for dinner. We arrived around 7:10 PM and were told there would be about an hour wait since it was busy. We didn't mind -- we saw how crowded it was -- so we went to Target to pass the time. By 8:30 PM, we still hadn't received a call, so we returned to check in. The host told us it would be "a little longer" and that we were next since every name on the list was already scratched off except ours. As we were leaving, we saw another group of people (all white) being seated right away after giving their name and number -- the same way we had earlier. We knew they had just arrived. We didn't say anything because we didn't want to cause a scene and waited outside instead. About ten minutes later, we got a call saying our table was ready. When we came back inside, we were told the table was still being cleaned and to wait another five minutes. While waiting, another white family came in and was seated after only five minutes. When I asked why they were seated before us, despite our much longer wait, the hostess gave a weak excuse. At that point, my sisters and I decided to leave. We refused to spend money at an establishment that clearly doesn't respect all of its customers equally. I came her by myself for dinner and I saw how busy it was so I asked how long of a wait it would be for a party of 1. The lady told me to hold on and I sat down on the bench by the front desk waiting for her to update me. She didn't say anything to me but I assumed she put me down and just forgot to tell me how long of a wait. After 30 minutes and plenty of people coming and going, I asked again how long of a wait it would be and she told me that she never put my down on the waitlist but that I could add my name if I wanted to. They have a few large group tables, but everyone sits at the two-seat tables further in the back... the tables are extremely close together so you don't have any privacy in your conversation. Ordered delivery from Shinju on a Friday night. It took a while (I think they are relatively popular, and since it was a Friday, they were probably especially busy). I ordered the vegetable maki and the sweet potato maki. I remembered the vegetable maki being better than it was - honestly, it felt a little bit underwhelming. The flavor profile was just plain vegetables, and I felt like they could have done a better job. Really, it tasted like they rolled up some asparagus and avocado in sticky rice and seaweed. Would not recommend. The sweet potato maki, on the other hand, was really great. Their vegetable tempura is always crispy and tasty, and the sweet potato tempura in the maki roll was just that. The flavor was great, and it paired well with the sauce. I would definitely order this one again. I was also not really impressed with the bubble smoothie. Wanna start off by saying that I mean no disrespect towards any of the employees here. Simply put, the sushi served here is bad. The fish is fine. It's the rice - the actual sushi 寿司 - that failed us so horribly. The second we put a nigiri in our mouths, we grimaced at the off putting taste. The idea that a sushi restaurant can get away with messing up the rice, which is the core of sushi, is beyond me. Once the rice is ruined, it is all ruined. It was too sweet, grainy, and too sticky to be considered sushi rice. It pains me to say this, but it was awful. The worst sushi I have ever had... which is comparable to the sushi made in Chinese buffet. The restaurant was too cheap to have an alcohol license, which is the same as Chinese buffet! The rice was too watery, and almost glued my mouth. Fish was not quite fresh either. Even soy sauce was the worst. I don't think it's the soy sauce for sushi, cause it was too salty! Usually I really do love Shinju sushi, but the customer service has gone downhill as of late. When I walked in to pick up my order, I was greeted by the most aggressively racist person I've dealt with in a very long time. He assumed that I, because I am Black, was trying to get a free meal and before he could ask my name demanded to see my GrubHub order. I showed him the order and he still had an attitude and denied that I was there to pick up something legitimately. I usually can just tell the ladies upfront my number and they give me my bag but I really do think this man should be fired. It's a bad look for the restaurant.
