Noodles has long been my go to spot however, I have worn this restaurant out and as I write this post I think I can never eat another bite. The restaurant is very family friendly and the staff remembers their loyal customers. I have had everything in every combination and the Pad Thai is still one of my favorite dishes from them. In the winter I enjoy their Tom Yum soup no tomatoes with shrimp. The Crab Rangoon is a starter of choice and my kids enjoy the Chicken Fried Rice and egg rolls. This is an easy spot for a quick lunch by the UChicago campus. I especially enjoyed the fried rice, and they did an excellent job accommodating my food allergies. Great potstickers and crab rangoons! We also had the chicken pad Thai which we asked to have spicy. It was VERY spicy and I'd definitely just have it normal next time. Strange thing about it was that there didn't seem to really be any sauce. Just spice. HOWEVER the quality of the noodle, chicken and veggie was EXCELLENT. The food is of decent quality. I've been here multiple times and I can't really complain about the food. It's not amazing, but at the same time, it's not bad. I'd say this place is a bit expensive relative to the quality. But there is something that I really don't like about this restaurant: the service. On multiple occasions, I have seen the waiters/waitresses socialize with each other while my food was waiting on the kitchen shelf. Pad Thai was delicious but not as good as Cali... Wish there was more meat!! The portions are also smaller than what I'm used to... But the flavor was pretty good! My friend ordered the steak, but there was hardly any steak. They give little rice and more than half of her dish was bell peppers. I'm between 3-4 stars on this one. It's nothing phenomenal and it wasn't the most authentic food I've ever had, but I still really enjoyed it and it hit the spot. I came here with my boyfriend to eat and my family had joined us even though they had already eaten. My sister goes to school at UC and recommended this place specifically knowing that my boyfriend and I love asian/Thai food. I was thrilled to see Vietnamese vermicelli noodles on the menu so I got those and I thought the flavor was pretty nice. Light and refreshing and the portion was pretty big. I've been coming to Noodles since I was in college and it never disappoints me. If you are new to Thai food, the chicken pad Thai, wontons and crab Rangoon are always favorites. If you are more adventurous there are definitely dishes for you. I typically go between pad Thai and the red curry with chicken. The service is always speedy even though it's not a huge place, I don't feel like I have to wait a super long time to be seated or served. It's great for groups of 2 or 4 during busy times. More than that and you may struggle to get a table. I recommend this place if you are looking for a fast casual noodle spot where you can have a sit down service experience. You can also take dates here as you will see plenty of undergrads on a date on a Friday or Saturday night during the school year. read more

Terrible experience! Steer clear of Noodles. My girlfriend and I placed a simple online order for pickup at 6:59 PM. The website told us that the order would be ready for pickup at 7:19 PM, which is when we showed up at the restaurant. When we got there, the lady behind the desk told us that it would just be a couple minutes. We kept waiting, and it was much more than just a couple minutes. Finally, at 7:45 PM, she gives us our food. The lady did not offer an apology; she only asked if we wanted chop sticks. I then said, "You know, we waited 25 minutes for our food. If we had known about this wait time, we could have been doing something else with our time." She responded extremely rudely, "ok." I then said that "this is not a good way to do business." I thought she should have offered us a refund, but at the very least, maybe like a soda or some fortune cookies, but she did not even do that. She just responded "ok" again. I then asked to speak with a manager to which she responded that she is the manager, and she said sarcastically, "have a nice night." I am extremely upset with how this was handled. Not only did we wait 25 minutes extra for our food, but then we had to deal with an extremely nasty and mean employee. If this is how this so-called "manager" behaves with her customers, she should not be a manager or an employee. read more

Came in around 1:30 on a Friday afternoon. Busy, but not packed. I wanted a quick lunch. I knew my dinner that night would be big and heavy so I tried to keep it light, but I couldn't resist after I saw the menu, haha. I ordered a Thai tea, some fried tofu, and the coconut soup (I forgot what it's called). Thai tea was good. Typical, but good. Nothing super special. Personally, I could have preferred it a little more sweet, but that's fine.Fried tofu is really hard to mess up. Tofu is tofu. The sauce that came with it was really good. Personally, I didn't like the fry on it, but there's only been one place I've ever been to that gets the fry the way I like it. The coconut soup was so full of flavor! Unfortunately, I'm one of those people who doesn't like cilantro because it comes of as "soapy" to me, and this soup had a LOT of it. Noodles etc. is my go-to when it's chilly and I just want comfort food. The food is consistently good and when I dine in, the service is pretty fast. I'll add a bonus star for that. I've ordered twice for delivery and the wait has been over an hour both times. Tonight I placed my order at around 6:20 pm and it's currently 9:00 pm and I'm still waiting! When I placed the order I was promised an hour wait and when I called to check after an hour and a half, they said it had already gone out and it would be here within 10 minutes. I called for an update just now and they said that apparently, the driver had tried to call me instead of even attempting to follow my delivery instructions and coming inside the public building to deliver it, they have just been driving around with it for three hours...I was at work so I didn't answer for a random number (maybe my fault) so I called and canceled. Their remedy was 10% off my next order. Bummer. That being said, I'd recommend pick up or dine in if you're particularly hungry :) read more

This isn't the best Thai food you'll ever have, but the price is so reasonable and the food so solid that it deserves 5 stars. Best dishes are the fried wontons, various curries (red is probably the best), the pad Thai, the chow mein, and the fried rice. Honestly most of the dishes are worth trying. This is my default place, since I have a favorite go-to dish. There's generally seats available or the wait isn't too long. There are definitely some dishes I've tried before that aren't that good, but since I only pick the Pancit nowadays, I can't attest to those. I also really like the pad thai, pad see ew and drunken noodles. I usually get the pancit since the saucy noodles goes best with the shredded raw cabbage that comes with it. I ordered the BBQ pork crispy rolls and when I received them they were really skinny (pencil thin), burnt meat inside, with no taste of the ingredients within for 6 bucks. Upon me calling and speaking to the -Manager I was informed that that is how they come. I informed the manager that the staff needs to let the public know that because it is falsely advertised on their menu and I was extremely disappointed in my food. I was offered nothing as a solution- I feel as if my complaint was not acknowledged or cared for. I will never eat at this place again since they can not get a simple dish like an eggroll/crispy roll correct. The other eggrolls I got were not good either and was further disappointed. I always order takeout and on my last visit I go inside to pickup my food and there are 2 people at the front. I say hello but no one responds so I figured maybe they did not hear me because of my mask but I made eye contact with both employees. Now they both seem to be busy and the register but no one acknowledges me so I stand there patiently waiting. As soon as another white customer walks in one of the employees who I'm assuming is one of the owners because I see her working the front all the time immediately greets her and asks how can I help you? I am shocked and appalled at this point because I was standing there before her and no one ever spoke to me. After she helps her then she walks over to me and asks how can I help you. I really hate to play the race card but this type of treatment is extremely rude and unacceptable. If I have to list my relationship with Noodles on Facebook, I would state it as COMPLICATED. Noodles is simultaneously a savior and a devil to me and other residents in the Hyde Park area. Why is Noodles a savior? 1) Convenient location - Noodles is two blocks away from UChicago buildings. 2) Fast service - You can receive your Thai ice tea within 5 minutes and your food in less than 15 minutes. 3) Consistent quality of food - No matter how busy the restaurant is, the food is consistently decent. Why is Noodles a devil? 1) Unfriendly staff - Staff is pushy and wants you to order the food as soon as you sit down. 2) Delays in take-out service - During busy hours, the take-out can take as long as an hour to be ready. 3) Relatively expensive Thai food - Compared to Siam and Snail, Noodles provides a relatively small portion of food for its price. I order Noodles Etc delivery to the office at least twice a week. Their menu is varied enough that people who order with me can eat different things 2 days in a row. Noodles is pan-Asian, so don't go expecting the best and most authentic version of whatever you order. I still think it is pretty great for what they're trying to do. I usually get the pancit or Singapore noodles. Vegetarians in the office love the tofu salad. Other co-workers love the big bowls of noodles - the wonton noodle soup, or the beef noodles. I always get an order of pan-fried Japanese gyoza to start, and the Thai curry samosas are a great alternative for those who want to try something different. The ease of online ordering makes getting lunch so easy, and I love that they automatically give you points for every order (10 points = $5 off your next order). The best thing is that management here is great. I've had a few issues here - once, they were out of something in an order, but never called me to let me know, until I called to ask where the food was. I commented on this in an online survey they sent, and just this past week, I received a call after I placed an order and was told about a missing item and asked if I wanted to substitute something for it. Clearly, someone is paying attention here and making an effort to improve the experience for their customers. I really appreciate that. read more

This Noodles location is consistently good. You get a lot of food for very little money -- and a great spot to people watch while you are at it. Its very close to UofC and so the clientele is mainly drawn from that crowd. You can't go wrong with the Vietnamese Vermicelli Noodles w/ beef. Oh man, put some spicy sauce on it and your mouth will be in heaven. Seriously. They also make the best Crab Rangoon in Hyde Park hands down. It is always light, hot and crispy -- not like Nicky's or some of the other Chinese horror establishments in Hyde Park. Plus, the sweet and sour sauce that accompanies it is amazing. This place was DELICIOUS!!!!!!! We came on a cold Friday afternoon and my noodles definitely warmed me up! There were so many options on the menu that I really could not decide. So I ended up looking at the lady next to me who was polishing off her plate of curry noodles and decided that I would get the same! The white meat chicken was very tender. I am usually not a white meat chicken type person, but this was very good. Service was only okay.
