My cycling club did a 100 mile ride from Glendale to Santa Barbara. After the ride we needed burgers and beers like nobody's business. I found this place on yelp and it looked good. It as better than I could have hoped! The burgers were perfectly cooked. The different burgers available were complex with out being TOO fussy. The truffle fries were outstanding. I would go back without hesitation; just an absolutely top shelf burger. If I had one issue, it was that the menu was difficult to read for me. I remember it as being white on black, on a chalkboard, all the words crammed in, and I think all caps. Basically, it was a challenge to take in everything, so I just chose the burger named after the restaurant (which was fantastic). Also, they had tots, which I would have preferred to fries, but I never saw them on the menu. A small bother for an otherwise awesome meal. read more

My wife and I were in Carpinteria and took a bus trip up to Santa Barbara. The Nook is located next to one of the best beer bars we visited in Santa Barbara. They have a pretty extensive menu and I ordered the Rockfish tacos. They were $15 and took quite awhile after we ordered them to come out. I sipped on a Pliney the Elder outside on a nice patio and three tacos came out after our cool buzzer thing went off announcing that they were ready. The tacos were pretty small, but the were tasty enough. A nice sauce on top, but after having fish tacos for $5 a piece in Carpinteria at Teddy's by the Sea, I was a little let down. I think if I came back, the burgers looked really good, and I would try one of those. They also only use one tortilla per street taco, I thought it could have used another. My entire family left this place with smiles and full stomachs!! I ordered the llama burger and it did not disappoint. It had BBQ sauce, green chile stuffed with mozzarella cheese, grilled onion, and bacon. It was absolutely delicious and a good portion. The fries were a wedge type and they were also delicious. We also enjoyed the pretzel and cheese as our appetizer it was GIANT and worth the price. Sadly the worst pizza in Santa Barbara. Flavors and sauces tasted like gym socks. I had the pork pizza with pineapple and I ate it... but every bite I was seriously disappointed. I got the pork belly quesadilla, and I would highly recommend it. It came with just the right portion, and the meat was perfectly flavored. Each piece is the perfect size to finish in two bites so that it won't fall apart as you devour it. Great place. It's a kind of food window in between two breweries. So, you can order food, then decide which place to actually sit and eat (& drink). Located in the Funk Zone next to the Lama Dog Tap Room where we were have a Beer break. I wanted food while we drank but, something light. After reviewing the menu, I looked over the Specials and chose the Halibut Ceviche Tostada. Not knowing the ordering process I was told you order and pay at the window and then you are given a buzzer that alerts you to pickup your food at the pickup window. LOL it's like a permanent food truck. As we were drinking our beers, we waited and waited, took a bit of time to the point I was going to check on our order and then the buzzer went off. The Ceviche was good, portion was small, and quit frankly was very over priced $18 with tax... again good, small and not worth the big price. read more

We were able to come here during the pandemic and had a delicious meal paired with drinks from Lama Dog, Their outside patio is dog friendly and they have lots of gluten free options. I totally enjoyed my porkbelly quesadilla and my husband had the Lama Burger. The staff was super friendly and even gave our pups treats along with bowls of water. Just grabbed a few pizzas for the office crew from the owner Michael and they were absolutely killer - we had the Magic Mushroom which truly was a magical experience, I almost forgot what type of mushrooms I was actually eating. Really a topping filled pizza with goomba goodness. Also chowed down on the Pig Out which was filled with pepperoni on every millimeter. It has a hint of garlic which really brings the whole pizza together, imagine swimming in a pool of meats and sensation smells. Everything was bland, had absolutely no flavor & we did not want to take more than a couple bikes before trying to refund the food. OMG! I died and did not go to heaven yet. This food was so crazy good, that I was so full and thought about ordering more. Try their Pork Belly quesadilla. It's huge. This place has really gone down hill since it was sold. Service is slow, and inattentive, it's almost as if we're bothering them by ordering. Everything is very laid back and "chill" now. Food took over an hour, and when I got my Topa burger the fries were cold and stale, burger was over cooked, the pork belly quesadilla tortillas tasted like they hadn't even been warmed at all. I love topa topa and llama so much, when I moved here a few years ago I was stoked that the food was actually good as well! Was my go to spot to bring friends and family visiting. Nook is a food stand that's located inside Lama Dog in Santa Barbara. My family wanted to go for some beer and I was happy that they had food available at Nook since I don't drink beer. They have a huge German Pretzel that's bigger than the size of my face! It's $6 and comes with Beer Cheese and Beer Mustard Dip! It was pretty bomb and I'd recommend it! DO NOT GO HERE!!!!! The food has no flavor just bland, we tried return our uneaten food and they would only give my son back less than 50 percent back? What a disgrace for a restaurant to be this way, we eat out a lot spending over $1,000 a week and this place is the first to be like this, I will do everything in my power to have people shy away from this place, we are doing a big show up here (love island) and will make sure no one from our show goes here! The cooks did not season my burger, how do you cook a burger without seasoning it? Then tell people if they don't like the food you won't get all your money back? This makes me very upset that you cooked my food improperly and it's my fault o don't like it! Is this a mc Donald's where every item that comes out exactly the same? That's how she acted like it was my fault! Why not offer something else on their menu? Or re cook our food? Just got into town on a road trip. Saw the reviews for The Nook and thought we would give it a try. First - the space is more of a co-op. The Nook is inside Lama Dog Tap Room. You won't find a way into the restaurant by looking for The Nook store front. Just walk in Lama Dog. The Lama dog has a few wines and beer on tap. They also have cans and bottles of beer and wine you can buy, and they charge a $2 cork fee. I ordered the Blackened Rockfish Tacos. I was unimpressed. The fish lacked texture and flavor. It was soft and bland. The salsa verde on top was very acidic and one note. Next time, I'll walk down the street and find something a bit more flavorful. read more

Word to the wise inspect your food before you take that first bite! It wasn't until my last piece that I noticed hair in my food. When I brought it to Shantee's attention who was the cashier her response was "So you don't want to finish that last piece?" I really didn't appreciate that she was trying to be funny with me especially when I just paid $14 for my food! I told her would you eat it with that piece of hair? I just wanted to bring it to their attention so the cooks would know. I really hope management reads this because that was not how my complaint should have been handled! Despite that one mishap I will say that the food here is pretty good and I have yet to have a bad meal. Prices range from $12 and up but the quality of food is flavorful and the burgers are really good! I've had the Lama Dog Burger which comes with, cheese stuffed Anaheim chile, brown sugar candied bacon, romaine, tomato, and "special" house sauce, served on a brioche bun ($14). The Duck Foie Gras Burger ($18) is also a must try! I never thought I'd like such a thing as duck but this burger is sweet and savory served with a fig port wine marmalade, manchego cheese, and pear. The pork belly quesadilla is what I ordered on my latest visit and found the dreaded piece of hair! Aside from that this quesadilla is packed with delicious pork belly that melts in your mouth. Pair that with a side of their parmesan truffle fries and you have a great snack to munch on while sipping on some beer or wine from Lama Dog. Overall The Nook is a place to check out if you're spending a day in the Drunk Zone oops! I mean Funk Zone and have the drunchies! This isn't a fast food joint and you will not find a full meal under $10 here so come prepared to spend some dough. read more

The Nook looks like a former warehouse that's been touched up by art majors from the Brooklyn school of hipster cafes. I think it's pretty neat; there's a small booth within the Lama Dog, which is pretty much a dog cafe and allows dog owners to bring in their dogs. I came in at 4pm and there was no wait. Service was fast and I got my order done in about 10 minutes which is what I expect from a fresh burger. I got a Nook Burger with 1/2 Original and 1/2 Truffle Fries, which ended up being around $17 with tax and tip. Now while that's quite high for just a lunch and doesn't include a drink, the quality makes up for the price. The burger is very large and moist, made with Angus beef and a glazed brioche bun. I ordered medium rare for the tenderness, and they did well on this. They said they don't do half and half fries, but the cashier was more than willing to throw in the garlic truffle fries for me to taste, and I'm glad I did. The original fries were great, and I'm glad I got only about 1/4 to 1/3 truffle fries because those taste like there's a lot of sodium, but that's okay because mixing them with the originals toned down the sodium taste. Either way the fries were great. I'll have to try out their beers later in another time with the Lama Dog, but at the price point that's set at the Nook I think I'm good for now. read more

Want a delicious and juicy burger? The Nook has it. I wouldn't say this is the best burger in the California, but it definitelly is one of the best in Santa Barbara. They have so many kinds- even a seafood burger. This place has burgers for all palates- which is definitely great! I ordered the Lama and Nook burger, the top two on the menu. Both were delicious and the ingredients were good! These are not cheap burgers because they definitely use better ingredients. I think this js why these burgers taste so delicious. Make sure to upgrade for truffle fries. They are worth it. The reason I gave them 4 stars was because my regular fries weren't hot like my truffle fries. Location: Seating is shared with a beer place, so it is a bar setting. Place is clean, medium amount of places to sit even when busy. Looking for free parking down then street. read more

Okay so I realized I posted a good review about the fried chicken sandwhich on lama dog but I meant to post here! I am obsessed with fried chicken. I'm not mad about it. And you know what I LOVE? The spicy fried chicken sandwich here with the fries! Talk about AMAZING. You know something is delicious when you order the same thing everytime and refuse to try anything else. I've tried a lot of fried chicken sandwiches in SB but this ones my favorite and my go to. It's on the pricier side- which is the only reason why I gave 4 stars and not 5- because I definitely think it should cost less- but it is very delicious!! My experience at The Nook was surprisingly quick and short lived but here's what I got from it. They have incredibly fast service for paying and receiving your order. The food is mildly expensive but definitely worth it in value of taste, texture, and freshness. And they have a wide variety of exclusive items on the menu; really something for everyone (including GF & V options)! I ordered the ever-so-famous house pretzel with mustard & my friend got the vegan tostada polenta veggie patty. My pretzel was warm, fresh, and perfectly salted. The fish is fresh, my burgers are cooked just perfect at medium, and the truffle fries are cooked to a crisp which is the way I love my fries! This recent time I came here I got the special which was the Ahi Burger. It was delicious!! The Ahi was seared on both side to perfection. It had a really yummy crunchy but sweet slaw on it which totally made the burger perfect. I hope they add this to their regular menu so I can start ordering it all the time. I ordered this burger with truffle fries which are always the best! They were cooked to a crisp which is the way I love them! My friend ordered the vegan tostada with the polenta veggie patty which was delicious as well! The polenta was so tasty and crispy which really made the dish. The tostada was flat which I thought was interesting but was yummy. Overall I love the food and the atmosphere at The Nook! First time here but will never come back. 2 girls in the front were rude. They definitely did not want to be at work.

Burgers were alright but most importantly the customer service experience was horrible. After getting our burgers we asked for more ketchup and ranch and the rude girls at the register said they had already thrown them out for the night. Funny thing is that my boyfriend went to the back to ask the cooks and they gladly were able to give him some. It is very important to hire great people to work at your restaurants! Went here specifically to try their burgers as I have been trying to find a great burger in town. I've been almost everywhere and nothing even comes close to what these guys put out. Presentation, flavor, everything stood out. I got the lama burger and was really impressed. The stuffed peppers really make it delicious, and the bacon is nice smoky thick cut pieces. When I bit into the burger it was incredibly juicy. Other places charge nearly the same price and just don't put out a juicy burger. Hands down best burger in town. I'm really happy I found this place. The lady at the order window was super nice too! I want to come back and try their 19.2% imperial stout, but I don't know if that's lama dog or nook (I think it's lama dog). Burger was well worth the price. I can't wait to come back! read more
