Food at The Nook (inside The Waterline) is always a hit! Everything on the menu is full of flavor and made with fresh ingredients. I have tried just about every dish and it all tastes great with very fair prices. My office is across the street so it's a great place for a quick lunch break. Didn't feel like sitting outside because I had my pup, but fortunately adjoining Topa Topa (separated by a hallway) allows dogs inside (since they don't serve food). Also, they share a space with Lama Dog and didn't pay attention to signage so was confused that they were two separate businesses (I think other reviewers are, too, since The Nook's food pics are on Lama Dog's page as well). Ordered the vegan mushroom/avocado flatbread and truffle parmesan fries. Both were actually pretty good. The flatbread didn't have your run-of-the-mill mushrooms; it looked like baby oyster mushrooms. The fries were pretty good, too, with plenty of parm flavor but lacked truffles (would have paired better with wine, not beer). Wasn't that hungry, but what drew me to the place was their burgers, which looked really good, so will definitely have to come back and try one next time (I didn't see a veggie burger on the menu, so I didn't want to be the only one chopping away on a meaty burger)! My only knock on the place is that it's a little pricey. Nothing too steep, but the quality is there to reason out their prices. read more

It was a welcome respite on a record-breaking hot day. No AC of course, but fans and air flow. The seating turns over quickly enough that you're sure to have a spot even if it's packed. You can sit outside, in Lama Dog, or thru the hallway in any of the other breweries or wineries right there. The food took a while for being fast-ish, but it was hot and we were glad to hang out. My fish tacos were good, hit the spot for my moderate hunger (not helped by the extreme hot). Boyfriend's burger and fries were just okay ... not the amazing burger he was hoping for but it was fine. We each had a brew from Lama Dog, and then checked out the ambiance next door. All in all ... just okay. We went to the Nook for lunch. It's in the same room as the Lama Dog. My husband ordered a burger and said it was fantastic. My daughter ordered the fish tacos and loved every bite. I didn't order anything cuz nothing on the menu appealed to me. I wish they'd had a salad with chicken option or chicken tacos. I'm not a big fish eater and that's pretty much your only option if you don't want a burger. Next time, I'll eat before I go and just enjoy beer at the Lama Dog. read more

Please talk to your business partners or think about putting a window outside so your customers don't have to interact with Lama Dog employees. We ordered a very overpriced salad, deserts, poppers and pretzels. Your food is delicious but not worth having to interact with Lana Dog bartenders on Saturday, 5/30/2020 late afternoon. They talk over customers, are dismissive and tell your customers to leave. I used NO PROFANITY. I was wearing a mask. I tried to calmly approach them and tell them their approach could be better. If they need to they should put up a waiting line with tape markers on the ground or explain the expectations. They should block the fridges if they don't want customers touching things. Outstanding location with higher prices for upscale pub grub ($14 burgers), but the quality was top-notch. The Nook is like a permanent food truck within the Lama Dog and Topa Topa Brewing mixed-use compound. The menu is tightly focused and inspired with delicious items like lobster mac-n-cheese, grilled salmon salad, chicken and waffles, and foie gras burger. Once you order, grab a buzzer and go back to hanging out inside Lama Dog or Topa Topa (you just can't bring beers from one place to the other). Then you can eat inside either venue. I sampled about four different menu items that our group ordered and they were all top-notch. The grilled salmon salad was enormous with a nice strawberry mixed green salad. The lobster mac n cheese was summarily inhaled. I ordered one of their burgers, a tad customized, and it came out perfectly. Sweet potato fries on the side were A+ as well. I think everything was high 4-stars for me. Given its amazing location, super friendly staff, inspired small menu, and symbiotic relationship with two outstanding beer bars, I need to give it 5-stars. Will certainly be back! read more

I am a self proclaimed "Cheeseburger Connoisseur". I always expect to be disappointed. This was not one of those times! The Nook actually has my approval to call their bacon burger a "bacon" burger. Mine came with two HUGE slices of bacon protruding from the seriously "seconds out of the oven" fresh bun. The burger was huge & delicious! Fish tacos were crazy loaded with flavor. It was by mere luck I got to enjoy the Nook. Got there a few minutes after kitchen closed, but chef was so cool, he offered my girl and me to take an order. As if that wasn't enough (was starvin'), he informed me he only charged for a single order. One of favorite hangouts in the funk zone and Santa Barbara. I have tried many things on the menu. The halibut tostada and the heirloom tomato shrimp salad are two items I consistently come back for time after time. The spicy fried chicken sandwich and the ahi sandwich are awesome. These specials deliver on flavor everytime. The chicken is always perfectly cooked and never dry. I got adventurous and tried their cubano sandwich when it was a special and now when it is on the board you can be sure I am getting one. The service is always friendly at the window. I have been coming down here from nearly the day the opened and have become addicted. The great thing about the menu is that for a quick lunch they have something for everyone and everything I have tried is full of flavor and plenty of food for sure. No California portions here. The patty is a mix of salmon, scallops, and shrimp, seasoned perfectly. Had avocado, watercress, relish, and tarragon mayo (so good) on a brioche bun. Served with a small side of fries. Definitely recommend!! Blackened Rockfish Soft Tacos ($14) - Comes with 3 Tacos. Boyfriend said these were delicious and seasoned well. Cabbage, lime, salsa, queso fresco, chipotle mayo, and avocado. Beautiful presentation! Laguinitas Tuberfest & Better Booch Watermelon Mint Kombucha were our drinks of choice. Came in awesome lama dog branded glasses! Went to The Nook for dinner with the wife. Menu was well written with several special items to the side. I chose the Angus Burger with fried egg add-on, and requested the patty be cooked medium. The Mrs ordered the lobster & shrimp albondigas sandwich. Staff were very friendly and helpful. There was an issue connecting to the payment provider on their iPad and they had to run my card at a later time. No big deal, as they brought my card out to me afterwards, but it might hold up the line if they were busier. Food presentation was excellent. My burger was delicious, but there were some short comings- patty was cooked beyond medium but still delicious, while the fried egg wasn't quite cooked enough, leaving the egg white portion a bit runny (yolk is fine). The lettuce and tomato seemed high quality and was very delicious. The truffle fries were also excellent! The wife's lobster and shrimp albondigas sandwich was delicious, and again, excellent presentation. The portion size was terrible though. It had three tiny albondigas on the roll they served it on. For the price of the sandwich, it should have been overflowing with the albondigas. Five would have been adequate to fill the entire roll it was served on, and six albondigas would have made us rave. After all, who wants to eat bread as their main course. We hope to give The Nook another shot in the future, but I think the general consensus is that the price/portion, as other reviewers have mentioned is a bit of a shortcoming. read more

I often eat here when I'm at Lama Dog, my friends and I love it. It's a quick order at the window place, you pick up your food and take it wherever within Lama Dog or Topa Topa. The fries are amazing and so is the salmon salad. I also love the tacos. The portions are rather small so I wouldn't recommend if you're starving but it's a great place to drink and have a small bite. That being said, it is a little pricey for what it is. I had been wanting to eat here for what seems like forever. Last night I finally made it. I had the German pretzel with beer cheese and the seafood burger. Let's start with the German pretzel. It was huge!! The beer cheese was nice and thick and simply amazing. Now the seafood burger was made with salmon, shrimp, and scallops. What a combo. I could not stop eating it. It was Absolutely Devine. Completely worth the wait. I cannot wait to go back and try everything. They have a long list of specials which rotate often. The atmosphere was also great! Awesome food spot and bar that left me wanting to come back for more! Channing was super chill and helped me figure out what to get on their small but very diverse menu. I ended up ordering the chicken panini special and added on the truffle fries for only a $1.00. Additionally the Nook and Llama dog share a space so you have access to a sweet tap room on top of the great food. The sandwich was bomb but the fries were even better. So make sure to upgrade to them truffle fries. Also the lobster mac is super yummy too so if that's more your style do not hesitate. Overall a really cool place to eat,drink, and chill. I will start by saying that my significant other is a professional chef and I have the privilege of eating extremely well at home on a daily basis, so my standards when eating out are VERY high. I have eaten here countless times (30+) while sipping on my favorite beer (Chief peak) next door at topa topa. This is one of the only places I eat out at regularly in SB and recommend to other people. Ive ordered most things on the menu, and never been disappointed or had something I didn't like. The service is friendly, they use high quality ingredients, and everything is fresh and tastes delicious. The pork belly quesadilla is my go to (someone else said it was greasy but that's the nature of the ingredients - pork belly and cheese, hello!) I also LOVE their fried chicken sandwich. It ties for 1st place with the best chicken sandwich I've ever had. The pimento cheese gives just the right amount of spice and the chicken is perfectly crunchy on the outside and so succulent on the inside, yum! Other stand outs are the crab cakes, lobster Mac n cheese, fish tacos, and any burger. I love the TOPA TOPA Burger but the lama dog burger is also great, as is the short rib and the foie burger. I also enjoy the steak sandwich and the salmon salad. The jalapeño poppers were too spicy for me (May have just been that particular batch of peppers, and I'm a wimp), but even though they made me cry spicy tears, they were cooked to perfection and the filling was delicious. They also make some fabulous desserts in house that tend to sell out - Oreo cheesecake anyone?! BOMB! I recently had to go gluten free so last night I ordered the topa burger and they were happy to make it for me over greens instead of on a bun. It was delicious and so satisfying. "Perfect beer food," was the final verdict of my friends who joined me to dinner at The Nook. I would have to agree. They have a good variety of options on the menu that all sound amazing. I have only gone three times so I haven't gotten a chance to try everything. Favorite so far: pork belly quesadillas. Everything about those quesadillas = perfection. The yellow corn tortilla, the cheese, the meat, the toppings. Yum. I recommend it and it is perfect for sharing with friends. The bratwurst is a good deal since it is a cheaper item on the menu but also a heavy meal for those wanting some protein and carbs before embarking on a beer journey across the room. The duck burger is amazing (close your eyes and savor the moment type of amazing because that is exactly what my boyfriend did after his first bite.) I personally love the tender meat and sweetness of the fig and pear. Overall, The Nook is awesome and is a perfect pairing for the beer from Llama Dog. It is definitely pricier than other places, but not too out of the ordinary for Santa Barbara. The only downside is that Llama Dog is now a popular spot in town and gets packed to the brim.
