Love this spot and the food! it is pretty pricey - but supposedly the people that work there say it's because they pay their employees good wages. I don't mind spending extra on food so that people can afford to live in SB on a service salary. Their mac and cheese and fries are to die for , as well as their watermelon salad. I love being able to get food at lama dog. The food is very good (I have had the burger and the crab cakes). The only issue I have with the Nook is that the price is way to high for order-at-the-counter without any table service. The burger is around $17 and the crab cakes are around $16 which is more than the burger and crab cakes at the boathouse which is a full service seafood restaurant on the beach. The food is good. The service was not good. This place is made of two adjoining breweries and a food service (The Nook). You order food and and pay at a walk up window. Then you find your seat at one of the two breweries. You can only drink the beer in the brewery from which you buy it. This was a problem because my husband one brewery, and I wanted beer from another. My husband got a burger and upgraded it to have sweet potato fries. Instead, it came with regular fries. He went back to the window to tell them, and the server asked him what he wanted her to do about it. He asked for the sweet potato fries instead since we paid more for them. She brought the sweet potato fries out and they were really burnt. He went back to the window with them and the same server asked him again what he wanted her to do about it. He told her that he wanted sweet potato fries that were not burned. In the end, we ended up with food that we liked. However, the server should have provided better customer service by being proactive in fixing the issues. Also, I don't like how people can bring their dogs into the restaurant in the Lama brewery. I love coming down to the nook, it's located in the funk zone inside of Lama dog! It's always packed, but I've gotten lucky and been able to find seating. The menu is huge, their specials board is full of creative options along with their most popular items located on their regular menu. I personally love both the topa burger and the spicy fried chicken, I could eat them everyday. The creamy Brie cheese sets the topa apart from all other burgers. The pimiento cheese on the fries chicken is spicy and delicious, they should serve it as a side with chips it's THAT good! Lama dog has a large variety of all beers! The service is attentive and friendly and the servers know everything on the menu, can help you with substitutions and recommend items that pair well with the beer on tap. One of my favorite places in the funk zone. They have a great menu that definitely pairs well with anything from Lama Dog. The lobster mac and cheese is amazing, it was super cheesy and gooey and it was probably the best mac and cheese I've ever had. The Duck Foie Gras burger was also really good and the wine marmalade complemented the duck really well. However, my favorite dish of the night had to be the pork quesadilla. The sauce they used was really good and the pork was cooked to perfection. They also have really great service and all the food is made to order. read more

Five Stars all the way. Not only was the food bomb AF, but also the atmosphere and location is exactly what you want in a Santa Barbara lunch outing. They have a big menu full of unique burgers, taco's and other bomb food items for days when you have lost any effs to give about eating clean. This is a great co-habitant with Lama Dog. Great food that is a bit expensive, but well worth it. I don't think I've ever had anything that I didn't really like. Highly recommend getting fries with anything you order. They are delicious. Also, it may not show on the menu, but they do have vegan options. Not sure if it rotates, but I had a vegan tostada on my most recent visit, that came with a falafel base topped with guacamole and salsa. It was really tasty and definitely filled me up. Last night my husband and I ordered the lobster Mac and cheese and the pork belly quesadilla to share. The Mac and cheese was soooo good. Creamy, delicious, and not overly rich. So good. What happened? This is one of our go to restaurants in Santa Barbara and has been a recommendation we give out to our visitors but I feel like quality has slid. We have had so many things on this menu but mostly we order ahi tuna burger, salmon salad, truffle fries, pretzels and vegan tostada. We visit it on an average of once a week sometimes more since it opened. When they first opened the food was always generous, seasoned well and was quality. Everything was good. But gradually the quality has slid. The salmon salad order literally cut the portion from the salmon down it seems 75%. It use to be huge, and that wasn't needed, but now it's a tiny sliver of salmon and not enough. The vegan tostada use to be amazing but I had it today and it was bland and lacked flavor. My kid's pasta wasn't drained and sitting in a pool of water. My husband says his tuna burger has been consistent so that it good. It's not everything but it's the items I order a lot. I'm not sure if it's a combo of figuring out expenses and laziness in the kitchen or what. But please bring it back. I miss the way it use to be. Bring back flavor and portions on the salmon salad. So I was early to the train station heading home to LA and decided to find a burger or sandwich place within walking distance. Found The Nook on Yelp and was glad I did. I thought I wanted a burger but the lobster mac and cheese caught my eye and I must say WOW. This may have been the best mac and cheese dish I have had in a very long time! I was close to giving this place 5 stars but I wish there had been a bit more lobster in it and the food did seem to take a while, and not just for me. We recently visited The Nook during a casual week night and were so impressed at how busy the whole place was- the whole bar, inside, and outside bar were packed with fun people. We walked in and ordered food, did not wait in line long, and less than 15 minutes later our food was ready. I had ordered their classic Nook burger and was amazed at how huge it was, and the flavor was amazing, with the house made 'bacon jam' it was a hit- along with the most amazing pretzel bun that held it all together perfectly. (And of course, not one truffle fry was spared!) It is clear the chef does not compromise with their quality of ingredients. And we can't wait to go back and try that lobster mac n' cheese! The restaurant/bar space in itself is fantastic, with an indoor and outdoor patio, tvs, and the new brewery Lama Dog in the building too (we had a Pale Ale, which was awesome!) the vibe is just great all around. First time at The Nook at Lama Dog, really great location, lack of seating outside though. The food gets 4 stars, service gets 0 stars. I'll start with the quality of service because it's really what ruined our first experience here. They open the window at 3:25 (weird time, but ok) and when we walked up to the window at 3:35, she refused to take our orders. This extremely rude woman took us all by surprise. I'll add that there were 5 different orders, and we all had the same experience with her. It's obvious she doesn't belong in the food/customer service industry. Saying hello or how are you seemed to piss her off, ordering food upset her, asking a question about the food was difficult. Basically, overall a very salty, unpleasant person. Now the food... We ordered the Shrimp & Lobster albondiga sandwich, lobster mac and cheese, The Nook Burger, Steak Sandwich, Seafood Burger, and truffle fries. The food was pretty delicious, but It would be nice to see at least one veggie option on the menu (one of us is vegetarian and there were no options for her). We were all too scared to even ask the cashier if they could substitute. read more

Let me start out by saying I loved the food here. I completely devoured the chicken sausage sandwich I ordered, and the people I was with said their food was really good as well. In a way it's sad that I enjoyed my meal so much, given that I probably won't go back there. The service was horrible. You wouldn't think there'd be much service to screw up, given that you order at a window and pick up the food yourself, but given the prices, it's not unreasonable to expect a decent customer experience. It was this past Saturday, a day that likely sees a lot of business in general from people (like our group) going to Santa Barbara to visit wine tasting rooms. There was a long line when we got there, but even so it seemed to be taking an extremely long time. When the two people ahead of us (who were part of our group) finally got to the window, they were told that no orders could be taken at that point because of a computerized register breakdown. They were told that problem might be fixed in ten minutes. The young woman behind the window could not have cared less about the information she was passing along, nor with the inconvenience it caused. She may not have caused the problem - I can't be sure - but she sure as hell could at least have been apologetic about it. Those two people (again, part of our group) went off to have a great experience at another restaurant, but since some of our group had gotten orders in before the problem, my wife and I stayed there. Apparently writing down orders and figuring out cost using a pad and pen and/or calculator was not considered an option - that must have been decided by the owner. When my wife explained that the group was in SB for a birthday party and asked if we could at least sit down while waiting for their problem to be fixed then allowed to be first in line when the machine was running again. She was told no. Because this seemed idiotic and for clarification the question was asked: "So you'd like us to just stand here until the machine gets fixed?" The girl's response was a robotic "Yah." Problems happen in restaurants all the time; they are unavoidable. What can be avoided is a pathetic, insulting response to the issue. Guess this place has enough regulars happy enough with the food that they'll put up with terrible customer service. read more
