What an absolutely brilliant experience, time and time again. The service granted to us from the staff has not only surpassed our expectations, it's brought us back again and again. Yes, there's great beer at Lama Dog and Topa Topa brewery, but the food from The Nook is without a doubt some of the best we've had in recent years. With a menu as strong as theirs it's impossible to go wrong, and your vegan friends can eat too! I recommend trying this place out with a couple friends on a Sunday afternoon, get the Lobster Mac and the Waterline Seafood Burger! The food is fantastic here. The burgers are top notch but intense. Be prepared to take a nap after. My personal favorite is the Spicy Fried Chicken Sandwich special. Honestly one of the best fried chicken sandwiches I've ever had. The pimento cheese is what really makes it. The core menu is great and I highly recommend the Waterline Seafood burger, but if you're coming in repeatedly I highly recommend the specials board. It always changes and has some of the best stuff. The best crab cakes that we've ever had, served up with a generous side of Asian slaw. The crab cakes were so light and made up of mostly crab, there was little filling. We also tried the truffle fries and the vegan flat bread, both of which were incredible good as well. Prices were fair for the generous amounts of food received. We love The Nook!!!!!!! I had the lobster Mac and cheese and it was positively orgasmic!!!!! The noodles were perfect and the sauce was creamy and not to cheesy! I've never given a review, but because of an awful experience I recently had, I was forced to create a Yelp account just so I could share my story. The other day my girlfriend and I went to The Nook and we only ordered $34 worth of food. The owner, who is named Norbert, took our order and ran our credit card. Two days later we were checking our bank account and were shocked to find that our credit card was actually charged for $10,034.40- yes we were charged over TEN THOUSAND U.S. dollars! We didn't see it on the bill because they manually put 10k as a tip. With all that being said, I fully understand that mistakes can happen, but this was astronomical error that needed to be immediately rectified. Unfortunately, what happened next was what made me decide to write this negative review. After our jaw-dropping notification from the bank, we spent an entire day trying to get a hold of the Nook: we called several times, we left messages, but no one would answer or return our calls. After so many unsuccessful attempts at trying to get a hold of someone, I decided that it was time to go see the owner in person because this needed to get fixed. When I met the owner and told him who I was, I was stunned that he didn't even offer any form of apology on his end. Instead, he tried to shift the blame and told me that he would provide me the number of his employee that accidently put in the 10k tip so I could talk to her about the situation. I want to be extremely clear; Norbert was the individual who took my order and swiped the card NOT his employee so besides wasting my time I am a little unsure of what he was trying to achieve here. He confirmed that he had received the messages that I left and had called the bank which is fine, but he never gave us a call to let us know that he was trying to remedy the situation. In addition, he then said he was going to deposit $10,034 back into our account and then RECHARGE our card for the food we ordered! I would think after a GIANT mistake like this, charging our card again would be the last thing on his mind, but he really didn't seem to be at all sympathetic. In the days that have followed, we still haven't received the money back into our account, and each time I have called the owner, he has been noticeably upset that I was calling which doesn't make a whole lot of sense since he was the person who screwed up in the first place. We are currently still trying to get the money back from him and to make matters worse he has still not offered any form of apology due to his absurd negligence. If this is the way they treat customers after they erroneously take ten thousand dollars away from them, I don't want to imagine how they treat their regular customers. read more

Very happening spot with 2 microbreweries and wine tasting everywhere. This place is making fresh food in the brewery with live music and great atmosphere. I happened upon this place when I was visiting from all the way out in Ohio. My experience was such that I felt I just had to leave a review! A couple friends who are local to the area brought me down to this area apparently referred to as "the funk zone." After a couple drinks down there we all decided it was time to get some food in us. Everyone insisted we go to The Nook, one might even say they were relentless! Anyway, I couldn't have been more pleased by the choice. I had the shrimp tacos and my wife had the blackened fish tacos on a bit muggy August day. The quality of the ingredients were really good, but I have a hard time paying over $30 for six tacos. Be forewarned, this place seems to close early on a whim if the owner, Norbert Schulz, is not there. Once my friend got there at 9:15 on a Saturday night and was told without explanation that they were closed when their website clearly stated 10 pm. I recently had friends and family in town on a Monday night and thought it would be a great place to take them for some excellent casual food and a beer. After checking on their website, Yelp, and Google, all three claimed they closed at 9 pm. Well, we got there and the window was closed, all food and utensils were already stored, and the girl behind the register window told me "We're closed." I looked at my watch and it was 8:36. When I mentioned both their own website, Yelp, and Google said they served until 9, all she told me was "Our website hasn't been updated since we opened and I don't know what Yelp says." WTF? Great customer service, huh? Needless to say, we left in a huff with yours truly blasting expletives throughout the complex of beer bars. That irritation aside, the food here is mostly flavorful, creative, and inexpensive for what you get. I wouldn't expect anything else from long-time local culinary master Norbert Schulz. So enjoy the food and the beers served at Topa Topa and Lama Dog in the same building - just call ahead to make sure you can still order some food when you get there! read more

I really want to like The Nook, I really do! But as many have mentioned their food is "okay", but not for the price point. I've been here a handful of times and have experienced their crab cakes, pork tacos, brat and even a few of their specials such as the jalapeno poppers and cod with quesadilla. I'll only be back here for the great beer at Lama Dog but sadly encourage others to BYOS (bring your own snacks). I highly recommend some sort of food happy hour or improving the quality of food.
