    Potato Salad
    Salveen K.

We waited about 30 minutes for a cold sandwich and a grilled cheese, so if you're stopping in for a quick lunch during work, be prepared for a longer wait. The staff was friendly and courteous, which was appreciated. However, the restaurant and bathroom were not very clean during our visit. The food itself was excellent. The only item that missed the mark for me was the potato salad, it didn't taste like traditional potato salad and was more similar to hummus mixed with potatoes. One thing to note for families: the kids' grilled cheese does not come with fries or a drink, which was a little disappointing. Overall, the food was delicious, but the wait time and cleanliness issues took away from the experience. Items we got: Beach Bum Turkey, Bacon, Avocado, Cream Cheese, Dad Sauce, Spicy Mustard, lettuce, tomato, onion, green chilis on Classic Griller Grilled cheese. Jack and Cheddar on sourdough with a splash of Dad sauce. Potato Salad Red potatoes, eggs, carrots, onions, pickles, and peppers with secret seasonings and sauces.

Visited DAD's on a late Sunday afternoon for the first time and ordered the beach bum sandwich. You can easily find free street parking out front or within a short walking distance. There was a little line when I came but it moved quickly. The sandwich was fresh and tasty. Loved the outdoor seating, which can fill up fast on a busy day.

Perfect lunch got the Tijuana tuna and it was great. Hefty amount of tuna on sourdough and melted cheese. All the fixings paired well for a great got tuna salad melt. Cute little spot with some outdoor seating!

    Hot Blonde

First time here, I ordered the Hot Blonde sandwich to split with my coworker. It was definitely enough for two people as it was packed with ingredients. It was so flavorful! I would order again but minus the cucumber. It kept throwing me for a loop when it would burst in my mouth. I was surprised that they didn't have a meal deal so you had to pay separately for chips and soda. Additionally, all the seating is outside so definitely a take and go in the Sacramento summer heat.

    Kings Reuben and Southside salad

What a frickin' find! You have to step off of the R Street "commercial" block to find Dad's, but you will be glad you did. I just liked the fact that it is a fun muraled old house set up with a screened front door and a counter to order from. Place your order and grab a metal bar stool out front on the street (there is like a dozen or so) and sit at the narrow high bar with your fellow diners (they are all friendly) to chow down on your fantastic sandwiches and/or salads. We ordered the Kings Reuben and a Southside salad. Both of these were awesome! One of the best Reubens I have ever had outside of a specific Jewish Deli I love. Dad's is much closer to home. Their menu is quite extensive on the sandwiches both hot, grilled or cold. You gotta check them out!

Summer is definitely here and there is no better way to enjoy a sunny Saturday afternoon, than with a tasty sandwich! I ordered a make your own cold sandwich. It was on sourdough bread with mayo, yellow mustard, lettuce, provolone cheese and turkey. When I say they give you a lot of meat I'm not joking! They do not skimp on it at all. It was the perfect classic sandwich. My hubby ordered the capital club, and he said it did not disappoint. Of course I had to have a little taste. once again they did not hold back on the delicious meat and bacon. Bread is always soft and fluffy and the veggies are crisp and delicious. The place is small but inviting. Seats are limited inside but outside there is room to enjoy the Sacramento weather. Service is fast and friendly. They bring your food out to you. Dad's Sandwiches is a must try, and I repeat visit is mandatory.

This place is super well rated even though it's in a hidden area and I've been wanting to try it based on the pictures online I was really expecting a huge sandwich and for the price. I ordered the hot blonde with light hot sauce. It's a chicken, avocado, cucumber, and saucy sandwich. Overall, it was good but not do the expectations I had based on other reviews and pictures As you can see in the picture the bread was really thin and the sandwich overall wasn't all that big (think pbj size)

The Beach Bum on the left, the Angry Roadman on the right.
    Mark D.

Great (big, tasty) sandwiches. Reasonably quick service. The inside is small, but there's plenty of seating outside. Fully endorse the Beach Bum and the Angry Roadman. Either sandwich would've likely been enough for both of us, but we still managed to demolish both.

Cheese Sacto Cheesesteak (Tri-Tip) and Cali Carnivore (Tri Tip/Pastrami)
    Blake Y.

Amazing sandwiches! My partner for the cheesesteak and I got the cali carnivore. Both were delicious! They don't skimp on the toppings too.

What we had: Pastrami Mami Beautiful portion of meat with the usual trimmings served with soft fresh bread. The pastrami was on the salty side but not overpowering and may just be what other folks may enjoy. Sacto - Tritip Cheesteak Sandwich It came with a gravy cheese like sauce which I believe is a signature sauce for this establishment. My husband gave this sandwich a 4 out 5 for that reason. He enjoyed the tender steak and he found the bread soft. I didn't care for it much only because it was a messy bite lol - Yes, it was that cheesy. I can see this being a favorite for some. The place is cute with both indoor and outdoor seating. They were blasting reggae music when we arrived and that was all the welcome I needed lol. Staff were coo and, pleasant - it was an all male team and you can tell they were just vibing. Cute inside art on the wall and outdoor mural. Will definitely recommend this spot and will come back to try another sandwich!

    Baja bird
    Jessyca O.

Baja Bird from Dad's = instant favorite. Perfectly grilled chicken, It's the first sandwich I've had with chicken thigh -- and honestly, great choice. Juicy, super tender, way more flavor, avocado, crispy bacon, roasted chilis, all layered on that crunchy bread... every bite hits. That chipotle mayo amazing. Messy in the best way, super flavorful, and totally worth it -- washed it down with a Diet Coke because balance. Already planning my next visit. Excellent service. Of course busy around lunch, but to be expected.

    Blanche M.

Recently visited while midtown and my other suggested this spot! I went in not knowing what to get, and luckily the cashier recommended their pastrami. We order led one of their pastrami sandwiches to go and made it a meal. We thought their sandwich was delicious! Made fresh, hot upon arrival. The flavors were good. Portion was big enough for us to split to fancy our taste buds. Definitely will be back!

Dad's sandwiches- this place is great! You can either order online or in person! The shop is small and has great food! You can get a made to order sandwich or pick one of the menu! They also have great sides including Mac and cheese and potato salad! They also offer all different kinds of hot dogs! Soft drinks, canned soda, etc! They also have some desserts! I really like the patio! The potato salad is by far the best potato salad I've ever had in sac!

The place was very clean, and everybody I dealt with was very friendly and helpful. It's tucked into the back of the Shell station at Bradshaw and old Placerville, but believe me, these are *NOT* your typical "gas station sandwiches." they have a decent sized menu. You can order at the counter, but I went ahead and just use the self order screen. , I ordered the Italian, with Aioli, Pepperoni, Salami, Ham, Provolone, Lettuce, Tomato, Onion, Oregano, and their Vinaigrette. When you pay, you also enter your phone number so they will let you know when the sandwich is ready. They were busy, as it was lunchtime. Still the sandwich came quickly. I got the text that my sandwich was ready at the same time that they called my name. The sandwich was very good. I liked their aïoli and the vinaigrette, you could tell that they were good quality, meats, and the veggies were very fresh. They were very generous with the fillings. I had it on sourdough, and it was a very good quality sourdough as well. I ordered a small sandwich, and it was enough to fill me up. For what I got, the price was extremely reasonable. I would definitely come back. Thanks for the suggestion, yelp!

My to-go order is the Hornet on a Dutch crunch roll with everything on it except mustard. Make it a combo with chips and a drink, and you'll have an incredible lunch. The ambiance is different from other sandwich spots in midtown. The chairs and tables are older and worn, and it's small inside, but it's also inside an old house that was converted into a restaurant. That alone makes this place unique. People hang out inside or outside with friends and enjoy the vibes. There's a real sense of community that the Sandwich Spot brings along with uniquely crafted sandwiches. The restaurant is in a really cool old Victorian house, and the staff were super friendly. The interior was clean and looked like a nice place to dine in, but I ended up taking my order to go. I ordered the #19 with turkey, prosciutto, avocado, and swiss on a dutch crunch roll. The bread had just gone into the oven, so we had to wait about 10 minutes, but I can't complain because it was baked fresh to order. Overall, I thought the sandwich was very good, but honestly not quite as amazing as people online had made it out to be. It was definitely good, but I don't know if I'd be dying to go back when I think Ike's, Mr. Pickle's, Corti Bros, and maybe even Nugget or Sprouts make more interesting sandwiches. To me, those places use slightly higher quality ingredients as well, though maybe I just didn't order the best sandwich here. Overall, it was a good sandwich and a good experience. My expectations were probably just a little too high. I wouldn't be dying to come back but also wouldn't say no if someone wanted to go there for lunch.

The bun, however, was enormous, so the overall experience was like eating a fluffy bread pillow with a whisper of sandwich somewhere in the middle. The workers have always been helpful and answered any questions about the menu or even helped with recommendations. The ambiance isn't anything special. It's like most sandwich spots with tables, chairs and a restroom for customers. You're probably not pulling out your laptop to do any work or catch a vibe there unless listening to music and sending emails in a sandwich restaurant is your thing. My go-to order is the Amuna's Tuna on Dutch crunch with everything on it except jalapeños. If you're feeling a little lucky, you can get a combo meal with chips and a drink. They also sell big cookies. You also get a nice caramel apple sucker candy with your order. Like most restaurants these days, and especially restaurants in midtown, you're looking at $15-$20 for a sandwich and combo. It's pricey.

For starters, Ike's has its own way of doing things: plain mayo is not their thing. Only way to get plain mayo on a sandwich is to get lucky that there's a smidgen still left in a jar in the fridge after they prepare their house spread. They mix GARLIC and gawd knows what else for spices to make their Ike's sauce, so allergies beware. They offer plain mustard, but not plain mayo? For seconds, the sandwich bread is not up to the challenge of holding together the mountain of fillings inside. Pics prove my point. I want to eat a sandwich with my hands, not a plastic fork (or a shovel). And I don't want to wear it, not in public. Proportions, people! One size does not fit all. Now, in fairness, the meat, cheese, lettuce and tomato were fresh, chilled, and flavorful. However, IMHO $2.00+ to add equivalent of half an avocado is robbery when a whole avocado is $1 in the market. Fortunately I arrived when there wasn't another person in the store so I was able order up a plain ham and cheese sub with L, T, and A. The counter person was patient as I attempted to navigate the menu board. I communicated my wish for a simple sandwich and it arrived, albeit ridiculously overstuffed and above my budget expectations. Props for kindness and understanding. My first visit to any shop is always testing how well they do basics. So far, I'm not an Ike's fan. I'm no newcomer to sub sandwiches. At 82, and being a Massachusetts native, I've been a sub girl for at least 75 years, ever since I could wrap my fingers around the perfect sub roll. I enjoyed their Baja Green Goddess salad with Impossible chorizo (even though I eat meat) and picked up a vegan banh mi and seasonal BLT for some friends. All were tasty and nicely packed to-go. I look forward to returning to try more things and their different locations.

Well designed, rustic yet modern -- really nice and great light. Patio is lovely with a mix of…read morehigh tops, bench seating, and little tables. Inside, also an eclectic mix of seating with vaulted ceilings, cool/rustic lighting -- very much of a cool warehouse feel. I like. The counter order process is a little messy. First, the menu boards...it's a lot of delicious varieties that's hard to remember the exact names to order once you step up to the cashier. But the staff is wonderful, happy service people...that help you out to correct and clarify. My favorites: ============ * Impossible Taco Salad [5.0 stars] -- my favorite salad. * Mama Chen's Chinese Chicken Salad [5.0 stars] -- omg, the chicken. * Avocado & Quinoa Superfood Ensalada w/Chicken [4.5 stars] * Saved Drake Farm's Salad w/chicken [4.5 stars] Seasonal favorites: ================ * Seasonal: Tuna on wheat (they are huge) [5.0 stars] * Seasonal "The 8 Hour" Smoked BBQ Pulled Pork sandwich [4.0 stars]: Pork was tender, but way too sweet and on grilled panini? Hardly. It was a 6" roll cut in half, and barely toasted or grilled. Plus, it doesn't come with chips, c'mon! That's a necessity in my book! Also: ==== * The Farm Club Sandwich [4.5 stars] * Habanero potato chips by Mama Zuma's...excellent. * Love the soda machine. You won't find Poopsi or Poke here, only Puck's - an all natural, no artificial colors or preservatives (you'll have to bring it from the outside if you want it!). Recommend: The Black Cherry. One peeve: ========== No salt shakers. If you ask, they have to go to the back and bring out a little paper cup worth. Almost making up for it are really nice pepper grinders brought to your table upon request. Location specific: Midtown Sac (R Street) ================================== A super cool newish structure in the new Downtown Sac area
