Summer is definitely here and there is no better way to enjoy a sunny Saturday afternoon, than with a tasty sandwich! I ordered a make your own cold sandwich. It was on sourdough bread with mayo, yellow mustard, lettuce, provolone cheese and turkey. When I say they give you a lot of meat I'm not joking! They do not skimp on it at all. It was the perfect classic sandwich. My hubby ordered the capital club, and he said it did not disappoint. Of course I had to have a little taste. once again they did not hold back on the delicious meat and bacon. Bread is always soft and fluffy and the veggies are crisp and delicious. The place is small but inviting. Seats are limited inside but outside there is room to enjoy the Sacramento weather. Service is fast and friendly. They bring your food out to you. Dad's Sandwiches is a must try, and I repeat visit is mandatory.

    Kings Reuben and Southside salad

What a frickin' find! You have to step off of the R Street "commercial" block to find Dad's, but you will be glad you did. I just liked the fact that it is a fun muraled old house set up with a screened front door and a counter to order from. Place your order and grab a metal bar stool out front on the street (there is like a dozen or so) and sit at the narrow high bar with your fellow diners (they are all friendly) to chow down on your fantastic sandwiches and/or salads. We ordered the Kings Reuben and a Southside salad. Both of these were awesome! One of the best Reubens I have ever had outside of a specific Jewish Deli I love. Dad's is much closer to home. Their menu is quite extensive on the sandwiches both hot, grilled or cold. You gotta check them out!

Amazing sandwiches! My partner for the cheesesteak and I got the cali carnivore. Both were delicious! They don't skimp on the toppings too.

This place is super well rated even though it's in a hidden area and I've been wanting to try it based on the pictures online I was really expecting a huge sandwich and for the price. I ordered the hot blonde with light hot sauce. It's a chicken, avocado, cucumber, and saucy sandwich. Overall, it was good but not do the expectations I had based on other reviews and pictures As you can see in the picture the bread was really thin and the sandwich overall wasn't all that big (think pbj size)

What we had: Pastrami Mami Beautiful portion of meat with the usual trimmings served with soft fresh bread. The pastrami was on the salty side but not overpowering and may just be what other folks may enjoy. Sacto - Tritip Cheesteak Sandwich It came with a gravy cheese like sauce which I believe is a signature sauce for this establishment. My husband gave this sandwich a 4 out 5 for that reason. He enjoyed the tender steak and he found the bread soft. I didn't care for it much only because it was a messy bite lol - Yes, it was that cheesy. I can see this being a favorite for some. The place is cute with both indoor and outdoor seating. They were blasting reggae music when we arrived and that was all the welcome I needed lol. Staff were coo and, pleasant - it was an all male team and you can tell they were just vibing. Cute inside art on the wall and outdoor mural. Will definitely recommend this spot and will come back to try another sandwich!

    Baja bird

Baja Bird from Dad's = instant favorite. Perfectly grilled chicken, It's the first sandwich I've had with chicken thigh -- and honestly, great choice. Juicy, super tender, way more flavor, avocado, crispy bacon, roasted chilis, all layered on that crunchy bread... every bite hits. That chipotle mayo amazing. Messy in the best way, super flavorful, and totally worth it -- washed it down with a Diet Coke because balance. Already planning my next visit. Excellent service. Of course busy around lunch, but to be expected.

Capitol Club Baja Bird . Soooo good

Yummmmmmm so good! My new fav sandwich spot . Turkey club on the left and chicken Baja on the right. So fire

Recently visited while midtown and my other suggested this spot! I went in not knowing what to get, and luckily the cashier recommended their pastrami. We order led one of their pastrami sandwiches to go and made it a meal. We thought their sandwich was delicious! Made fresh, hot upon arrival. The flavors were good. Portion was big enough for us to split to fancy our taste buds. Definitely will be back!

Dad's sandwiches- this place is great! You can either order online or in person! The shop is small and has great food! You can get a made to order sandwich or pick one of the menu! They also have great sides including Mac and cheese and potato salad! They also offer all different kinds of hot dogs! Soft drinks, canned soda, etc! They also have some desserts! I really like the patio! The potato salad is by far the best potato salad I've ever had in sac!

Simply the best sandwich in Sac! DAD's is a small sandwich shop on S Street, and their funky space has a cool vibe with a small outdoor patio. I've walked by many times and finally stopped by on a weekday for lunch. DAD's has a standard menu or the option to build-your-own hot or cold sandwich. If you're in the mood for something different, they also serve hot dogs! I wanted to go with one of their creations and opted for the Turnpike (cold). I ordered my sandwich without onions and mayo along with a small side of potato salad. Service brings your order to you, and I opened my sandwich to check that it was made correctly. We came just after the lunch rush, and I was happy to see everything came out just right. The guy who helped us at the counter let me know that they ran out of small sides, so they upgraded me to a large! I was impressed with the customer service and devoured the sandwich. The bread, thick layers of meat, and mustard made for the perfect bite! I'll be back soon and can't wait to explore the rest of the menu.

Tried out dads for lunch, only a couple blocks away so could be a regular in my lunch rotation. Got the Reuben, was really good pastrami, maybe a little too much sauce though. The sandwich was toasted well, and the flavor was great, but it was loaded with sauce and pickles. Next time I'd go 50% less on each then it'd be perfect. The wait is long during lunch time so I'd definitely recommend ordering ahead. Food: 4/5 Ambiance: 3/5 Service: 3.5/5 Marcels foodie score: 3.5/5

Sacto Cheesesteak (Tri-Tip) and Hot Blonde (Chicken) disclaimer: matcha is from The Mill nearby :3
    Leslie H.

Randomly found myself in the mood for a sandwich and matcha combo for brunch and since I haven't had the chance to sample too much of the sandwich scene in Sac, I had to do a lil bit of research to figure out the best nearby options. Tbh, I had initially settled on Juno's based on recs and reviews but it was unfortunately closed on Monday -- a happy accident which led me to discover DAD's, another local favorite. The storefront is a quaint little shop in Midtown along the R Street corridor, with eclectic/amusing decor and a menu that boasts a variety of West-Coast inspired deli sandwiches featuring plenty of avocado and arugula. I opted for the Hot Blonde chicken sandwich while my boyfriend got the Sacto Tri-tip Cheesesteak. Surprisingly, I enjoyed both almost equally (the Dirty Blonde won with only a slight edge over its opponent) despite not typically being a big fan of cheese steaks. As you can see from the dope cross-sections pictured, these sandwiches are PACKED with fresh and quality ingredients. My chicken sandwich was an explosion of flavor with the garlic aioli, brown mustard and hot sauce combo, while the cheese steak had the most delicious beer cheese with delicious peppery notes to complement the tri tip. Personally, my only qualm was that they are a little heavy-handed with the sauces, making these sandwiches a little wet... I'd probably ask for less sauce next time though I appreciated how well they combined together to enhance their respective meats. My bf also mentioned that he would've preferred chicken slices rather than chunks, which admittedly would have made the sandwich more cohesive (my half definitely fell apart towards the end). We stopped by the Mill a couple blocks away to pick up an accompanying matcha latte and enjoyed our meal nearby at McKinley Park. A thoroughly satisfying Monday brunch and I can't wait to come back (the Broadway Burnout and Beach Bum are next on my list to try). Stay tuned to see how this compares to Juno, the next stop on my sandwich escapades! :^)

    Sandwich!
    Sonny N.

Dad's Sandwiches is one of those simple, no-frills spots that just gets it right. The inside space is pretty small, so it can feel a little tight during busy hours, but they do have outdoor seating which makes it easy to hang out and enjoy your food when the weather's nice. The sandwiches were honestly so good -- fresh ingredients, great flavor, and perfectly put together without trying to be overly fancy. You can tell they care more about making a solid sandwich than anything else, and that's exactly why it works. What stood out just as much as the food was how nice everyone was. The staff felt genuinely friendly and welcoming, which made the whole experience even better. Best for: A casual lunch, quick bite, or anyone craving a really good sandwich in Sacramento. Definitely a spot I'll keep coming back to.

So that's exactly what we did. For my sandwich I chose the Corti special. Basically you're able to choose your bread the toppings and some of the other condiments but you are not able to choose your mean. The person making your sandwich decides what they're going to put in it based on the different toppings and condiments you add to your sandwich. I will say that the service was quite quick there were four other people ahead of me and I will say I probably got my sandwich within 7 to 9 minutes. This was perfect time for me because I had never been to this specialty store before so I took that time to browse the area and the different aisles to understand what were some of the things sold there. I will say the space was surprisingly filled with items that were extremely high quality but reasonably priced. Also all the individuals working there were quite friendly they said hi and asked if I needed any help or assistance multiple times from different people. Now the sandwich itself I will say it did live up to the hype that was being tossed around all of Instagram. It was just so high quality when it came to the ingredients the bread was super fresh and each bite just had the perfect balance of meat to bread to condiment ratio. I highly recommend coming to try one of these sandwiches and one thing I didn't say earlier was at 9:00 a.m. it is not that packed so you definitely can get it early and again have it for your lunch later on.

Then walk around the store and pick up delicious cheeses, charcuterie meats, snacks, and fresh pasta. Their ravioli is pretty famous and reminds me of an upgraded version of the nostalgic soft, square beef raviolis that I grew up eating. If you don't want to commit to the entire box of take-home ravioli, you can buy it by smaller tubs from the deli. After 20-30 mins, your sandwich should be ready for pickup. The workers there are so friendly and provide great service. They genuinely seem to like their jobs. We got one guy helping us out from one end of the deli to the other end and he was so patient and happy the entire time. There was a sweet lady handing out cheese samples as well. Everything I tried was so delicious. I especially loved how thin they slice the charcuterie meats where they are translucent when held up to the light. Can't wait to go back for their fresh pastas and homemade sauces.

The bun, however, was enormous, so the overall experience was like eating a fluffy bread pillow with a whisper of sandwich somewhere in the middle. Honestly, the sandwich felt a bit like a mime, the idea of a sandwich was there, but the substance was invisible. I even wondered if maybe the fillings weren't hungry themselves. By the end I felt less like I had eaten lunch and more like I had participated in a sandwich-themed illusion. Sadly, it looks like I'm Togo's-bound from here on out. For starters, Ike's has its own way of doing things: plain mayo is not their thing. Only way to get plain mayo on a sandwich is to get lucky that there's a smidgen still left in a jar in the fridge after they prepare their house spread. They mix GARLIC and gawd knows what else for spices to make their Ike's sauce, so allergies beware. They offer plain mustard, but not plain mayo? For seconds, the sandwich bread is not up to the challenge of holding together the mountain of fillings inside. Pics prove my point. I want to eat a sandwich with my hands, not a plastic fork (or a shovel). And I don't want to wear it, not in public. Proportions, people! One size does not fit all. Now, in fairness, the meat, cheese, lettuce and tomato were fresh, chilled, and flavorful. However, IMHO $2.00+ to add equivalent of half an avocado is robbery when a whole avocado is $1 in the market. Fortunately I arrived when there wasn't another person in the store so I was able order up a plain ham and cheese sub with L, T, and A. The counter person was patient as I attempted to navigate the menu board. I communicated my wish for a simple sandwich and it arrived, albeit ridiculously overstuffed and above my budget expectations. Props for kindness and understanding. My first visit to any shop is always testing how well they do basics. So far, I'm not an Ike's fan. I'm no newcomer to sub sandwiches. At 82, and being a Massachusetts native, I've been a sub girl for at least 75 years, ever since I could wrap my fingers around the perfect sub roll. For more adventurous sandwich people, go for broke! This is your place!
