So decided to try dinner and thought risky maybe getting the Southwest burger, but it could rival the best burger in all of Sacramento-no joke I'm a foodie! The bacon was abundant and smoked with just the right crispy. The chipotle mayo with grilled onions sealed the deal. I never heard of cheddar mozzarella, but so dang good. Went to Nopalitos after seeing them on the Word of Mouth show. The show is amazing and I love supporting local businesses. The food was great the service was fast, it's pretty small inside. Not easy to find seating. The main draw back is that it was cash only. I don't think I seen that information on the show, either that or I forgot. Unfortunately, we were in a hurry and couldn't get to the bank so that limited our options since we only could scrounge up enough to order the food we got. A neighboorhood mexican joint that caters to the white community of East Sac and surrounding hospitals nearby. The food is good but not the deep mexican flavors that I enjoy in the barrios. I ordered the Napolito taco and was happy but did not realize the size or how to eat it... I ended up cuting it up as I went and eating it like a tostada or salad. I was absolutely devastated that they stopped serving breakfast since that's what everyone raves about on here and was sort of the impetus for us going there in the first place. I don't know enough about the restaurant business to know why this makes sense but I realllyyyyy wanted huevos rancheros. Anyways, I had a carnitas burrito instead and it was decent. I went here with my mom one day after a 5k run and we loved the food but the best part was the great service! It's a small restaurant and when we went it was outside dining only so it took a little while for a table to open up but they let us order our food while we waited for our table so that we basically got our table & food at the exact time. read more

It can get pretty busy from time to time so I recommend getting breakfast there before 9:00. They also have excellent food for lunch and so many options. My parents and I were looking for a place open early for breakfast on Saturday morning and this place popped up on Yelp with great reviews. After a deluge of Korean meals, my parents and I were grateful for the opportunity to try some delicious California's Southwestern cuisine. My dad is a bit more of a picky eater so he went with a safer dish, the pancakes with fresh banana. He really liked his pancakes, they were very fluffy. My mom got the most popular item on the menu, a cactus omelette. I've never really eaten cactus before (except for one time inside of a wedding cake) but I do know that cactus is a very prevalent menu item in Mexico. I tried a bite and it had a mild flavor, I didn't really know I was eating cactus. My mom's breakfast plate came with breakfast potatoes on the side. I love burritos! I got the breakfast burrito with chorizo (sausage). It had scrambled eggs, potatoes and salsa inside with cheese. delicious! I definitely want to come back and try the lunch menu. read more

Everything I have ever had is amazing! The Polenta Breakfast and the Pancakes are my favorite breakfasts and the bacon is really good too! Lunch is hard to decided should it be the wet burrito with 1/2 red 1/2 green sauce or maybe the Taco Plate, you can't really go wrong. Pozole....if they have Pozole when you go, you have to get it...it is not a regular menu item but it is probably one of my top three favorite items. And the baked items are worth making the trip on their own, Chocolate Chip Cookies, Coffee Cake, or a Zucchini Muffin but the Chocolate Chip Cookies are my favorite! Pros: Friendly and efficient staff. Delicious, amazing, perfectly cooked, seasoned, and portioned food. Decent brewed coffee. Prices are good too, about $7 for a massive breakfast burrito, and $8-12 for a breakfast entree. I had the creamy polenta with Chile verde. It comes topped with two fried eggs, pico de gallo and cotija, and side of tortillas for $10.95. Portion was perfect. I was still able to have a few bites of their oaty, coconutty, cinnamony apricot bar without going into a food coma. Baked goods are good. The famous coffee cake wasn't special but the apricot bar was excellent!! Cons: Cash only. Small shared parking lot. Not open weekends. Not really a pro or a con: A tad cramped inside with only about ten tables plus a high counter with a few seats along a window. There are a few more tables outside on the sidewalk. The flow of service is timed well though, and tables pretty reliably opened up as new guests finished ordering and started looking for a spot to sit. It's been awhile since I ordered from Nopalitos cuz apparently, my hubby had taken me here awhile back. Anyways, my coworkers order from here many times and their main go-to dish is the Chile Colorado tamale bowl. And now, I got the chance to try some because I deserve it today. Well, it was actually pretty good. I absolutely enjoyed it. It was Mexico's version of comfort food for me. The tortilla chips they serve it with on the side topped it for me. I *love* that this place opens so early! I whole heartedly recommend going with the red/green sauce on the huevos rancheros. Best of both worlds! Order at the front counter and take a seat. Food was fast and the seat I had in the window was nice and sunny. Coffee refills were free and my cup was refilled without having to ask (not always a given). If I could I would give -5 stars. I placed an order over the phone for curbside pick up and when I called to pick up, a woman placed me on hold immediately. She did not ask for my name, car make or model and while I waited on hold for over 20 minutes, I decided to hang up and call again. The line stayed busy for the next hour and a half and I left. I called back after some time to give my feedback and the same woman who had forgotten about me became insulting, patronizing, dismissive and blamed me for not picking up my order-when, again, she never asked for my car model, make or even name. She wouldn't give me her name yet claimed to be the owner. I've never experienced such awful customer service so I highly do not recommend. Ehhh, it's okay. Not the best Mexican or the worst I've ever had. The reason why it's only 3 stars is because they only accept cash or check. The absolute best place in town. I used to work close by and it was and will always be a favorite of mine, definitely checks all the boxes. Rose is amazing, super friendly, along with all of the staff. It's a small space with very limited seating, so if you get a spot, you're in luck. They do get quite busy around the lunch hour, though I've never had to wait for my order as it's always brought out quickly. Both lunch and breakfast are great, bring cash. This is one of my favorite breakfast spots in Sacramento. The food quality is great and wait time is short - even when it's busy. The woman who works the register is always nice and the server is attentive. The prices are ok. The only negatives I can think of are parking can be hard, there isn't a lot of seating, they are closed on the weekends, and they only accept cash or check. That being said we have always found a parking spot and table to sit at. I kind of respect them for not being open on the weekends because I think it is a family run business and they need their time off too. I wish they accepted credit cards because I don't think the prices are low enough to compensate for the lack of convenience. I just had the best huevos rancheros I've ever had in my life. Literally - just. I came back to the hotel and am finding a few minutes to write this before I forget to rave about this place! I was a little bit worried at first b/c I'm not a huge tex-mex fan but wanted something egg-heavy & mexican for breakfast. This place was close to the hotel and easy to find. It was a very cute little restaurant with a few retired couples sitting inside & a few more empty tables. Per reviews/recommendations, I opted to have BOTH sauces although I typically do not chille verde - in Seattle it often tastes raw, bitter & still very "green." Their sauces were AMAZING. The red sauce had some very comforting spices in it - not heat but more like cinnamon or clove. Faint enough to give some depth to the sauce but not overwhelming. The chile verde was subtle but quite flavorful. The eggs were cooked to perfection. It was also very, very fast! Also, their coffee was robust & complimented the meal well. the only complaint were very lackluster corn tortillas - wish they had been made in house. $12 for breakfast + coffee so I can't afford to do this every time I'm in Sacramento but so glad I found this place. read more

Had a very meh experience here today. Tried to call ahead and order, was put on hold, and then their phone had awful, loud static issues. I hung up and decided to just head over in person and order. Stood at the counter for a couple of minutes before a woman came over to take my order. Then I waited, and waited, and waited, while other people all got their orders. Another employee came out twice to ask me what I ordered so clearly they forgot or something. Finally, I got my food and headed home. When I opened the boxes, I was surprised by the small portions. I also wish they would offer an option of spicy or at least medium salsa -- the mild has little flavor. Food was hot and fresh but nothing special and not worth this kind of trouble. So. Good!! Fresh, delicious food for a great price. I would give 5 stars in a heartbeat but the hours of operation for Nopalitos suck. M-F 6:30am-2pm. We've wanted to come here for almost 2 years & only live a few blocks away but because of their hours, we just made it there today. Which makes me sad, because I love supporting local businesses especially when their food & service is great. Also, they only except CASH or CHECK. You cannot pay with a card. Come on now, I get their are fees for businesses for using a card, but really? Is this 1950? Despite these two things, I think Nopalitos is wonderful.
