Ordered a drink and enjoyed the fire show from a far. The time finally came and we were escorted to the private Omakase Sushi Bar. Six strangers my son and I were greeted with a welcome cocktail and delicious oyster. Then the magic and deliciousness began. For the next 2 hours our tongues danced with delightful sushi delicacies. Okay, I never leave 5-star reviews. I'm the type of person who will give four stars to a cloud for being "a little too fluffy." But Norikase? This place broke me. I'm emotionally and spiritually unprepared for how GOOD it is. We came here to celebrate a birthday and did the tasting menu, which honestly felt less like dinner and more like a Michelin-starred fever dream. Now, here's the kicker: we just had sushi in JAPAN. This is one of my favorite sushi experiences in Jacksonville. The atmosphere reminds me of a sushi restaurant you could find in New York, and has a nice dim lighting, perfect for a date night. My favorite sushi roll was the Luxury roll, that tasted so fresh, the salmon was the perfect texture that wasn't too soft, and had a good balance of flavors. I love when my sushi tastes refreshing, which is how'd I'd describe the luxury roll. The surf & turf roll was my second favorite, the wagyu was delicious and you could taste each ingredient that made up the roll. The cocktails were adorable! I recommend the Don't Break My Heart cocktail, which has notes of Yuzu, lychee and cranberry. They're also in cute shaped glasses. Shoutout to pastry chef Tina who made our Tiramisu! Celebrated my bday there and I was treated to the Omakase experience. Each course was mind altering delicious and it was magic watching the chefs do their thing. My only critique was that I had the sake pairing and the timing was off. He poured it much too late after the dish it was supposed to be paired with. There was also a large party happening outside and every time someone came and went through the door, it brought in freezing winds. Besides that, I thoroughly enjoyed the dinner. The chef was very personable and you could feel his love for the food he was putting out. I would definitely go again! We pretty much know what each of us will order. Once seated, we put in our cocktails. I ordered the birdie drink (chisai tori) because it's cute and my wife ordered the Japanese Negroni which we enjoyed. But when it's time to order our Mains, our server informed us that the kitchen is out of commission. Wow! Now, we're stuck on ordering sushi. Went ahead and ordered the Golden California roll, the Surf and Turf roll, and an Ebi handroll. Pricey! We had to stop there for now. I went in a group of 4 to Norikase to experience the 17 Course Chef's Tasting Omikase. We were taken to the back of the restaurant where the ambiance is much quieter and seated at the private bar there. This was a special occasion for my sister's 19th birthday, and it was absolutely memorable. It requires a reservation to be a part of the 17 Course Tasting, at $175 per person. This is a fairly steep price, although I didn't feel at any point like were missing out on anything. My only complaint is that my fiancé was supposed to attend as well, but fell ill right beforehand, so we were unable to receive a refund for his seat despite being told on the phone that was possible. We did receive a $175 drink/food credit to make up for it though. I think it was just communicated poorly. The chef was preparing the food (honestly more like art) in front of us with another two people there to support him, and a waitress that attended to us regularly to ensure we had refills without asking and if we wanted to order additional food, we could. From what I understand, the tasting menu changes every night, but the one constant is the chef's pride: the Chilean Seabass garnished with pickled eggplant and an edible flower. This was the most tender, beautifully cooked piece of fish I've ever had the pleasure of eating. I took my time to enjoy the way the flavors mixed, and was thoroughly disappointed when the experience was over. My husband and I have done the Omakase 17 course experience four or five times here. It is by far our favorite date night experience in Jacksonville. But last night on a whim, we decided that we wanted some sashimi and Nigiri. Being last minute the tasting experience was full, so we got a table in the main dining room. And honestly, wow. They don't miss. Everything was just as good and fresh as it would have been in the Omakase room. Also wanted to say a special bravo to the bartending manager who really has made such a special menu. Quick summary: good food, okay service, food delays, and enough errors that we wouldn't return again. We made reservations for my husband's birthday dinner on Saturday night. We got there at 5:45 for 6 pm reservations and they told us we would have to wait for our table. We sit at the bar and get cocktails. We are pleasantly surprised to see happy hour so we get bees knees and French 75 both were great. We were offered an edamame and I was like I didn't order but we will eat it. I at first thought they brought it to us for the wait for our table. She said no it's only if you ordered it. It was 6:07 and no sign of being seated so we order another cocktail and we say we will close out so we can tip out. Bartender says they like you to close out anyway because it gets confusing for waiters. So we hand over a credit card and then we see the bill and we are charged $30 for food we don't eat. Get it refunded no big deal but at this point we are told we can be seated so we are delayed in seating. Trying to figure out how to write total and tip in new bill without correct price being listed. We get seated and it takes awhile for anyone to come to table. We do get waters and have someone else put in crudo and edamame for us. We get the edamame brought to us and eventually our drinks we paid for at the bar. Awhile after the edamame comes the truffle mushrooms which were wonderful. The murikase cocktail was great. We got the king crab pot rice and it was okay: I had crab shell in mine I had to remove from my mouth. Not worth $38 or whatever it was having had fresh king crab from Alaska this summer. Not a lot of king crab was in the actual pot. Wouldn't order again. Then we get the dream roll, it was good, but I have had better jalapeno and tuna rolls. The waitress asked if we wanted ginger and wasabi before she took our order and my husband said yes-spoiler alert, we didn't get it. Next dish was the popping rice crudo dish-excellent would have two servings just of that. Then we had the hamachi-good dish but not a great dish. My husband and I at this point from having great cocktails at the bar talking about coming back for omakase menu to maybe just coming back for happy hour after issues. We were surprised the cold dishes-crudo was served to us last. Had a manager person ask if we were celebrating when husband was in bathroom and I said my husbands birthday also noted on reservations made online. Nothing was said or done for him entire night(not a big deal but a happy birthday would have been nice). Then we get the bill- we are charged for additional food we didn't get and drinks we already paid for at the bar- an overcharge of around $75. The waitress came back and was like I didn't think that was right. It took around 10 minutes to get a corrected bill and then brings it to us and says they are still checking to make sure we paid for our drinks at the bar. We lay down a credit card seeing the bill is correct, and we still wait another 10 minutes for it to be picked up. During this time my husband goes to the bathroom and says the urinals are overflowing and got on his shoes. By the time we left, we decided we wouldn't return. Sadly this place has great cocktails, excellent mushrooms, and the popping hamachi was wonderful. However, delayed seating, delayed food service, crab shell, incorrectly billed twice, was enough to detour us from returning again. It took over 2 hours and 15 minutes and we ordered everything as soon as we had a waitress come to the table. All the delays and errors caused us to text our babysitter to see if she could stay longer. I'm honestly wondering if I'll have to dispute credit card charges in the next week. read more

Ah, I love this place! The omakase experience is absolutely incredible. 17 courses of beautiful raw fish with flavors that I've never tasted before!! I enjoyed a cocktail before heading back to the omakase bar. Their menu changes seasonally, and I already want to go back. Their happy hour at the bar also looks awesome and I know they do a special discount day on oysters and bubbles. That is on my radar! Back to the omakase tasting...Service by Emily was fabulous. I felt like I was on Chef's Table watching Chef Akira work his magic. This was my first time trying brown butter uni on a fresh scallop. HEAVEN! Literally melted in my mouth like butter. My partner and I visited last Saturday for our 12-year anniversary. I was looking around and couldn't believe that I had not seen this particular sushi restaurant before. The pictures made this location look elegant and the food and drinks were at a premier level. I made a reservation and the staff had everything ready within minutes once we arrived. We got started with a couple of tequila cocktails which were perfectly balanced and just started picking things off the menu to try. Not one item we had chosen was below five stars. The sashimi and sushi was next level along with a couple of the cooked tapas that we had tried. I really have been trying to find a sushi place that performed at this level and I'm happy to have finally found it here in Jacksonville. A couple of things that I didn't prefer at this price point was that our waitress was a little new and the ambiance of this location can fool you a little bit when you look at the pictures. This place is still in a strip and there are a lot of windows. At the time we went which was around 6:00 at night the sun shines right in to the windows and it can be a little unpleasant depending on where you're sitting. I'm sure when it's completely dark the lighting in this place really does wonders for the ambience but until then it leaves something to be desired. It's not enough to take it down a star because the food and drinks were so incredible but it made me feel like that there was some room for improvement. These are excellent dishes that are being provided with prices that reflect that but you want everything to completely exceed your expectations when you're paying these prices including the wait staff and the ambience. That's not to say I won't be back because I certainly will. I want to try one of their Omakase dinners one of these days because that seems like a really wonderfully unique experience that I haven't had yet. read more

Stepping into Norikase you will think you are no longer in Jacksonville. More like an upscale city bar. It's adorable and service is amazing. We had Mimi and she was wonderful and attentive. See my photos for some of the food we had on kanpai "happy" hour. The food was exceptional, with the exception of the cucumber salad! Well worth happy hour prices which last from 5-7pm Tuesday through Saturday. You don't have to sit in a certain area to get happy hour either. My friend liked her French 75s. Norikase is a modern Japanese cocktail bar and restaurant and now with the Omakase bar hidden around back, it serves as a speakeasy as well. I've been to Norikase a few times before since they opened in 2021 and at the time is was only the small Omakase area and an outdoor patio area. They've now expanded into a full restaurant and bar and the improvements are exquisite. When I first walked in and sat down, I felt like I was in a completely new city. The fact that their decor is in my favorite color scheme was an added bonus! Additionally, the open dining space with views of the kitchen and sushi station is always a plus! The vibes were immaculate and based off my memory of what I've enjoyed there in the past, I knew my dinner would be an absolute treat. The staff at Norikase was gracious to start us off with a complimentary glass of champagne. For starters, we asked our server for recommendations and he told us about the Brown Butter Shima Aji. Honestly, he had me at "Brown Butter" but this dish was incredible! It's made with Japanese striped jack, green tea ponzu, Maitake mushrooms, and a brown butter emulsion. The flavors worked beautifully together! I really enjoyed the brown butter and how it complimented the flavors of the entire dish! I would definitely order this again the next time I visit. I love shishito peppers so it was a no-brainer to order the charred shishito peppers as a starter as well. Some of the peppers were hot and some were more on the sweeter side so it was fun not knowing which one you were going to bite into. I was also a little mesmerized with the Katsoubushi throughout the dish. Katsoubushi is thinly sliced, smoked and fermented skipjack tuna and when on a hot dish, the way it moves makes it appear as if it's still living. You'll have to head over to my IG reel here to see what I mean. Nonetheless, it was a delicious starter. So, 9 times out of 10 if oysters are on the menu, I'm going to want to give them a try! We ordered the seasonal oysters that came 4 different ways; with a cucumber mignonette, ponzo, lemongrass coconut foam, and ikura. All of them were super fresh with a subtle flavor from the ocean. My favorite was the Ikura. I loved the saltiness from the salmon caviar. For our main entrees, we immediately went with the Surf and Turf Roll! Another no brainer! Just check out what was in it: Japanese a5 Wagyu, shrimp tempura, white truffle aioli, grilled asparagus, crispy shallots, and house made eel sauce. How could anyone pass this up!?! I know I'll be ordering this every time I dine in Norikase from now on! Our server also recommended the Great White Roll which was really good. It was made with Hokkaido scallop, hamachi, yuzu marmalade, avocado, honey wasabi aioli, and bubu arare which added nice crunch. Another amazing flavor combination! We tried several different cocktails that were delicious and refreshing! They included "Spritz Up Your Life" made with Aperol, elderflower, lemon and bubbles. The drink pictured here is "Don't Break My Heart" made with Nikka Japanese vodka, yuzu, lychee, strawberry, raspberry, and cranberry. It was my favorite! We also indulged in a sake flight and dinner shot with our server and chatted for another hour or so! The mood was so chill we didn't want to leave! For starters, we had Brussels Spouts which is crispy and savory. Karage chicken, truffle mushrooms and edamame were delicious and seasoned well. We ordered the surf and turf and aburi sake roll which I prefer the surf and turf better give it has the crunchy shrimp tempura inside and wagyu beef on top with truffles. Both rolls are amazing still. For main entree, we had sea bass which melts in your mouth, prawns with polenta and eggs on top, rib eye, duck and king crab clay pot. I cannot decide which dish is the best but I would order all of them again. The duck might be my least favorite of those since it was a little gamey. As for the drinks, do not skip ordering the lychee martini which is very refreshing and the dessert shots to end the day. The staff were very attentive and they provided everything we needed. Elegantly decorated place, beautifully plated food, and wonderfully detailed descriptions made this omakase meal absolutely delightful. We started with an oyster followed by a striped bass soup and uni with cucumber gelee. The first few dishes were rounded out by salmon carpaccio and white miso cod. A delicious homemade coconut sorbet cleansed our palate. After these bites, I was really looking forward to the full meal. The next several sashimi courses were good but I thought that they became a bit repetitive with multiple preparations of striped bass and tuna. I really enjoyed the soft shell crab roll which was wrapped in nori and the wagyu with truffle. Our meal ended with a Thai tea creme brûlée, which was just ok. Compared to other Thai tea creme brûlées that I've had, aside from the caramelized top, this one didn't remind me of the actual drink. Overall, we had a really nice dining experience but I thought the value wasn't as great as I had expected it to be given the price of the meal. Would I come again? This was probably the best dining experience of my life. The omakase here compares to big city omakase (I live in Chicago). The 5 starter non-nigiri dishes were my favorite - so creative! The chef was kind enough to accommodate my oyster allergy by giving me a substitute. Extremely disappointed during my recent visit, which was my 3rd or 4th time dining here. The service was extremely slow. Despite having a reservation at 8 PM, we weren't seated until 8:20ish. Then after ordering it took over 20-25 minutes to get our drinks. The food was also disappointing. The sushi, in particular, was very small with barely anything inside. You can see how unsatisfactory it looks in the photos. My previous experiences here were much better. When our food finally arrived, several items were missing, and we had to wait an additional 10-15 minutes for the order to be corrected. read more

Just impossibly good. This is not a restaurant where we could come weekly or even monthly. For me and my wife having the 17-course omakase, with a couple drinks each and tax/tip, it was roughly $450. That's serious money. But it is worth every penny. And people who dropping similar money at Cowford or Ruth's Chris have no idea what they're missing out on. The service is impeccable. The cocktails are fantastic, and surprisingly well-priced compared to the wine by the glass (there is a deep list of beers too). But the food is just kind-blowing. I'd estimate there were maybe seven cooked courses, and ten sushi pieces (with mango cheesecake at the end). It started with probably the best miso soup I've ever had, laced with pork. There was an asparagus purée with uni and Japanese scallop, a sweet and sour snapper, and a black miso cod. All fantastic. The raw course were straight down the line the best sushi I've ever had. It progressed from lighter to heavier, from kampachi and snapper to finishing with chutoro (medium fatty tuna), otoro (the fattiest tuna belly), and a slice of A5 wagyu strip loin sushi. Sitting at the counter was such a fun experience, watching the chefs put true concentration and precision into their dishes. This is an unbelievable dining experience and we are honestly blessed to have it here in Jax. Japanese Fine Dining. Yes.. it will be expensive.. yes.. it's built at the end of a plaza.. yes... you should make reservations! I was skeptical about going with some mixed reviews on service when paying at the prices we were expecting. I'm glad we took the jump for our 11th anniversary. Service (server was Emily) was perfect. She was tableside often but not so much that we felt bothered - perfect! Knowledgeable on the menu, kind with a smile, her recommendations were spot on for what we were looking for. Busers were quick and kind, and our water glasses were always topped off. We had.. a lot.. from traditional bluefin nigiri to waygu A5 nigiri topped with winter truffle, everything was delicious on the raw end. I went out on a limb and ordered the ribeye as well. It was cooked perfectly, slices in strips and served with perfect accompaniments like fingerling potatoes, romanesco, and alan aus jus type of sauce. Again, perfection but on the heavier side, so we packed some to go. We finished the meal with the butter pecan creme brulee. It was as good as it sounds! As for drinks, just order what you like, they were all amazing or sounded amazing if we didn't order it. The atmosphere was great. It was romantic, lively, and relaxed all at the same time! If you can step into a pair of humble pants and ignore the fact that it's in a plaza vs. a standalone building (I honestly don't care but some reviewers do) it's just fine. Plus it's on the end of a plaza so it's got its entire own section for parking! Hands down 10/10 recommend.. but be ready with your big kid wallet. read more

Do not come here! I have been here twice. Both times I have not received any food or drinks because we were never served. On both occasions we sat at the bar on a very slow night (2-3 other customers, with 2 bartenders). Both times the bartenders were rude and would not take any of our orders. We waited so long that a waiter came and asked if we needed anything just for us to order and receive nothing after another 25 min. This is so disappointing. Would not recommend. read more
