This is definitely not the go to place. We were in the area and decided to eat breakfast at Norma's. After a 30 plus minute wait, we were seated. We both ordered the meat lovers omelette. The food arrived in about 20 mins. However when the food arrived, there was barely any meat. See pic below. So we waited for the waitress to come back around and address the issue. We explained we ordered meat lovers and there is more egg than meat. She advised she would get the manager. By this time we are starving. So rather than getting the manager, she opted to go and take orders from other tables. I had to intervene and explained that I am not going to wait for her to get a manager and I was hungry. At this point I became upset. She agreed and went to retrieve the manager. The manager came and asked what the problem was. I showed him and his explanation was, well it has meat. Smh. I told him I could have ordered more side and would have gotten more meat than what was in this "meat lovers" omelette. He explained that they put a hand full of meat in each omelette. From the picture you can clearly see the cook must be a midget because that is not a handful of meat. It is now 2 1/2 hours later, and still waiting to eat breakfast which started at 10:30 this morning. Drove down a few exits and stopped at Cindi's. There are days when a restaurant has a bad day. Today was definitely one of those days. Our waitress was slow to get our table. We ordered. She was neither kind nor cordial and did not seem really interested in getting our order right. We waited and waited. It took 23 minutes to get our food. I was on a time crunch. The grilled pork chop that I ordered was burned to a crisp. I should have taken a photo. It was a mess . I requested the meatloaf instead . It was flavor-less and mushy. I'm not sure how I managed to skip over reviewing this place but...I love Norma's! I frequent this location and the one in bishop arts almost every other weekend. If you're looking for your Mom and pop style cafe this is It. I always come for breakfast bc that's my favorite food here but everything is delicious and well priced. My last visit I came with my family of 5 on a normal busy Saturday and we were seated within 5 minutes. Our waitress Alisa was so sweet and attentive. We were having such a good time talking amongst each other we didn't notice that our food hadn't came yet. Alisa came to us and apologized and even gave everyone at our table a free pie! First time trying this location, and I liked how it felt newer, open and spacious, more than the older one I usually go to in Dallas. What I like is that the food is still consistent and good! I tried the black eyed peas and they were ok, I'm not as fond for a tomato based broth. Honestly this place tried but just didn't succeed for me! Maybe I'll give them another chance before leaving Texas. When my coworker & I entered, we weren't greeted as warmly as some of the other guests that came in after us. The girls working at the front definitely had a judgemental face when we walked in. Strike 1. When they sat us at our table, she placed the menus on the edge of the tables & sort of threw down the wrapped utensils. Umm, okay. We took a look over the menu, ready to order in a few minutes. Our waitress looked, sounded & acted tired. My coworker knows the menu well but I was craving a cake. When I asked the waitress what was available, she huphed in annoyance. Mind you neither of us were impolite or disrespectful in any way. This was my first visit ever to a Norma's cafe. Strike 2. Upon receiving our food, my coworker indulged in her chicken fried steak with green beans, mashed potatoes, mac & cheese. Also a side of corn bread with a dinner roll. (It looked so promising!! $10 for all that was a good deal to me). I WAS NOT HAPPY WITH WHAT I GOT. Apparently my waitress gave me a chocolate pie instead of cake. I swear I said cake like 3 times. Oh well, it's chocolate. I love chocolate! Not this time. The pie tasted old, I don't even know what it should taste like. I was very disappointed. I had my coworker try it to see if I was just thinking too hard, safe to say she did not want a 2nd bite. $1.75 for a large slice is stellar but not if it tasted like food poisoning. Went yesterday around 230pm, I guess after their morning rush hour. All the food was soooo cold. The chicken fried chicken, chicken fried steak, most of the sides too. The coldest of the dishes were the 2 meatloaf plates we got. The food was good but the cold temperature didn't make it appetizing. I'm always afraid to send food back so we just ate it. Won't be going back anytime soon, and if/when I do I'll ask them to make sure everything is at the very least warm. I mean they need a temperature gun if this keeps up..... read more

I ordered four breakfast tacos and two coffees for delivery due to covid. At $9.99 a taco I expected a regular size breakfast taco. What we got were tiny tacos about an inch thick. We joked that they were smaller than $2 street tacos. Online they say you will get sides. We did not get any and one of the coffees did not have a lid. So for decades we went to the original Oak cliff location. After they implemented a new computer system that hamstrung waitresses so they could either take orders or leave their device at a table to pay and had a change of leadership, they lost the seasoned people and despite a near empty place, couldn't turn tables or get food out hot. So for a year or more, we just quit. Then we tried this location. The manager is very present and involved. They still have the same hamstringing system, but a few of their staff have mastered work arounds, mainly Ava. If you ask for her, you will have an experience that you expect to have. My party of 3 visited this location during a brunch rush. We had a small wait time of 10 mins which was surprising. We all ordered and unfortunately my order was incorrect. It was quickly corrected and I received chicken fried steak, mash, mac n cheese, and corn. It was delicious! Norma's always gives large portions so there was plenty. I'm being very generous with two stars only because when our food finally came out it was as actually pretty good. However, the service is slow... very slow. They're severely understaffed. You'd think with a restaurant that's been open since 1956 that they'd figure out you need to pay competitive wages in order to attract people that want to work. Ok, where do I start..the eggs were watery and not "real" the pancakes were under-cooked and that was a shame because we came here specifically for that. The bacon was under-cooked and not crispy. The hot chocolate was way too sweet. The best thing I had was the hash browns. Very disappointed had a lot of hope but sadly very below average. We came to Dallas from Los Angeles to visit family and all 15 of us came here for breakfast. They didn't balk at our giant party- they just put tables together and were so gracious and kind about it. Service and food were amazing! Portions are super generous- we're big eaters and my cousin and I easily shared a breakfast and both were well satisfied. THEN, when we went to our car, my husband realized he left our rental car key fob on the table. We went back in and they had already cleared the tables and no one found a key. AMAZING Angie (I don't even know her position at the restaurant) went into the kitchen and actually dug through the food waste from our table in case it actually got swept up by the busboy into the bussing bin. The busser jumped in to help- the whole staff was looking for our key and trying to help! AND, they all did it with a smile- They were truly trying to help and all felt so bad when they couldn't find our key. Its turns out, one of the cousins thought it would be funny to see how long it would take for my husband to realize he couldn't find our key and had, herself, forgotten that she played the prank and left the restaurant with our key in her purse! Angie, after learning of this prank, didn't get mad! She laughed with us and was just so glad we had our key. This be one of few actual diners in dallas. The staff is friendly and the restaurant is fun/funky. We came for lunch and there was an older crowd as well as some Dallas cops. While they are know for some unhealthier options like chicken fried steak, you can still find healthier items like grilled chicken and steamed broccoli. Therefore, everyone can find something to eat here. Also, the food comes out fast so no hangry people. We had the Monterey chicken and pot roast. Both were tasty like nice comfort food. It's a nice portion for the inexpensive price. I want to come back another day to try the breakfast, which is served all day. read more

We came to eat dinner just me and my mom at 7:00pm . We arrived and was told by the hostess there was a ten minute wait because they only had two servers working. The hostess an older lady seemed tired because she didn't greet us and wasn't very friendly. When we finally got seated we ordered and the food was at room temperature. It felt like being rushed and there was no organization. There was two employees laughing amongst themselves and not helping the waitresses. Most of the seating area was closed just booths open. I would've assumed that this location would be short staff and more organization like team work. I don't think I would be coming back to this location. So the reviews were decent and that's why we came here. This diner reminded me of a mediocre diner off of a highway, and you choose to go here because nothing else decent is around. It just was so plain and "blah" to me. I got a BLT and it had like 3 strips of bacon. My boyfriend got the club and they overloaded his with meat and bacon but yet i was eating basically mayo and bread... My friend with us got the pot roast and he liked it but the gravy tasted typical to me and the mash potatoes did seem home made but could've been atleast seasoned with something. Y'all Cajun seasoning and hot sauce go a long way... but it was super cheap and the service was good. So I can't complain much more. read more

Came here for breakfast this morning and had a COMPLETELY better experience than I did at their North Dallas location off of Dallas Parkway where I consider the service to be absolutely TERRIBLE. If you are trying to decide which location to patronize, read my review of that location, save yourself the heartache, and come to THIS location. Our greeter was pleasant here, greeted us as we entered the door even though they were pretty busy. We even had a pleasant greeting on the way to the table by a waitperson who was not even the person who waited on us. Amazing the difference and how a great beginning makes for the setting of the entire experience. Once we were sat, our waitperson was at our table within 30 seconds...another amazing difference! She was nice, responsive, attentive, and very on top of everything Our food arrived within 5 minutes of ordering, all fresh and the order was correct. read more

First of all the service here was great from the beginning as we got sat down and our server was just really helpful in every question we had about the menu. She brought us out some bread and butter and let me tell you the corn bread was delicious as well as the rolls. The food was over all good for the price. I had steak and eggs with cinnamon roll. I am not pleased with this location. I was the only black person in the room and came in to pick up a grub hub order for Sean V. Firstly no one even cared that I was there. When they finally got themselves together they went to get the order and would not hand it to me without a phone confirmation and that is absurd. I am OFFENDED by this action as I have done this 5 years and not one time have I had to verify via my phone with this restaurant. Also is is not apart of protocol for us drivers. Accusing me of stealing and order not only offered me but also lost you all a good customer. I was just saying how the breakfast was good here and thinking of a brunch with my significant other and then this happened. This restaurant is no longer being considered. Ever! read more
