I went to Norma's today, Saturday, March 11, 2023 around 5:00 p.m. I was highly disappointed in the service and food. When I arrived, I was told they were out of bread and did not receive any bread the whole time I was there. I ordered Chicken and Dumplings ala carte and was charged almost $15.00. The chicken and dumplings were really dry. I asked for cranberry sauce and he brought me one small container with my meal. I asked for more but never received it. I had to flag him down to ask for a straw, and every time I needed something, I had to flag him down, with the only exception was when he came to get my payment. I told him I never did receive any bread, and he said well, they were out and besides that, it was complimentary. This was not a proper response. Service and food was poor. I normally go to Norma's in Plano. I will never go back to this Norma's again and will discourage others from going there. read more

I came here for Sunday dinner around 6:30pm with a friend and her 2 year old baby. Our server Michelle was so patient with us because we were so indecisive on what we wanted to eat. She didn't rush us or push us to choose something off the menu but she just gave us space and was very observant and attentive to us. My friend and I were so impressed, thank you Michelle!!! I got the Smoked Half Chicken special with mashed potatoes and green beans. Tasty as usual! The smoked chicken was dry so I ordered a side of white gravy and it was great again! This location is wayyyy better than the Oak Cliff location since its new and located on the back of TJMAXX and a Mens Warehouse. Overall I'd some back because the food was great, service was great! The place was about to close so we felt a little rush by the man that was cleaning the tables, that is why there is a four-star instead of a five. Now the service and the food. Katrina was our server, I just liked her she had a great personality. She also won the heart of our great nephew who doesn't like anyone. Now, to the part, you are waiting for the food. Can I just say whoever made those pinto beans bless you and your family! Like I need a blessing so big to come upon you! Those pinto beans were fire! Came here while in Dallas for breakfast. Decided to Yelp and see what was good in the area I was in. Norma's came up highly recommended. I was a bit apprehensive because of the reviews the other locations received but this one seemed pretty good. A little difficult to find. It's talked away off the street inside a mall area parking lot. It's between 2 business and not extremely visible from be street but there was plenty of parking. It was meant to have that old time feel of a 50's diner. Some old antique looking decorations and that soda shop ambience. Clean on the inside for sure and very warm and inviting. I was greeted by my server and handed a menu. I wanted to try the Migas because being from California I've never tried them but went ahead and did the country breakfast. The breakfast cane with your choice of chicken fried chicken or chicken fried steak, 2 eggs, hash brown or grits and lastly biscuit or toast. Went with the steak, hash brown, biscuit and 2 eggs over medium. Eggs cooked perfectly. Hash brown as well. Biscuit was amazing but actually cold when I got it. Maybe like warm at best. Still tasty though. Gravy was on point. Thick and creamy and full of flavor. I suggest asking for it on the side though. From be previous posts it looks like you may get a little more that way. The actual steak it's self was a bit disappointing. It was mainly breading/batter. The portion looked huge but once you dig in you realize it's a lot of that tasty breading and little meat. And I'm not sure what the meat was. I mean it's beef but almost looked like a flattened out hamburger patty. Overall it was good. I ended up paying a little over $13 for the breakfast and a coffee. Service was a bit lacking. Server only came back once to drop off the check 5 minutes after my food came out. I've been following Norma's on Instagram for a long time and swooning over their food. Finally got to go try it out last night and it did not disappoint. It was a chilly night and I was desperate for some heavy, home cooking. The chicken tenders were DELISH. Not too heavily breaded and heated up nicely today for lunch. The green beans and corn were also fantastic, lots of flavor. Jury is still out on the mashed potatoes, which happen to be my favorite food group. They almost had a tangy taste and I can't tell if they actually got a random spice in them or if they are supposed to taste like that... I will just have to try them again. My boyfriend got the chicken fried chicken BLT and really enjoyed it. A very unique dish. Going in opposite order here... but we started with the fried pickle and WOW! Stopped by for a quick breakfast while visiting the Big D for a wedding. I went with my traditional ham steak, eggs, & hash browns that I get at any breakfast spot. Plain and simple my breakfast go to. They didn't have my favorite: sourdough toast, but they do offer Texas Toast. I decided to try one of their "famous" biscuits. It was really tasty. It was not your usual biscuit, but different in a great way. The ambiance is your traditional diner. Nothing fancy, but functional and fun. Will I go back? I really need to write two reviews, because when we are in the restaurant, everything is usually pretty good. When we get delivery, there are usually issues. Sometimes, major issues. This is written not because I'm angry, but because I am so disappointed. We haven't been in the restaurant since the pandemic started (we haven't been in any restaurant since the pandemic started), but we've ordered delivery a lot, and from Norma's a few times, and it's never the same as in house. I almost get the feeling that if one of the chicken fried steaks seems a little small, someone says, "It's good enough for delivery." I thought I was hallucinating, but I've ordered CFS in the restaurant a lot and I've had it delivered, and the delivery never seems to be the same size. (My wife agreed with my assessment.) Worse, tonight someone couldn't tell the difference between ranch dressing and white gravy, because we got a large cup of ranch and no gravy. Ranch does not go on a chicken fried steak. I ordered a dinner salad which counts as two sides. My wife ordered a side salad which counts as one. We got two salads that were the same size. On the other hand, one of her sides was missing, so maybe they were dinner salads. Our desserts were missing. You know, the course they tell you to eat first. I would have, if it had been included with my order. I will say the Chili Cheese Tots were epic. I will order them again. Norma's only uses Favor. I would blame this on Favor, but I don't think the driver ate two pieces of cake (and some green beans) and drank some gravy on the way here. Although, the bag wasn't sealed, unlike many local restaurants, so it's possible. Favor refunded part of the order since it didn't arrive, but I don't really think this is on Favor. My friend ordered the orange juice which was 5$. We thought that was really pricey. Their sides could be better. I wanted eggs but those became the sides and it was pretty pricey per egg. It's been on my list to try. Came over from Snooze (the wait was like over an hour on a Sunday at 11am.) No wait at Norma's. This isn't anything fancy, but expect good, tasty portions. Friend and I split the CBGB ($11) - chicken tenders over hash browns with bacon and scrambled eggs. I'm sure I could finish it myself, but you could be fine splitting it if both people aren't too hungry. It is a decent amount. I wish they put more hash browns. The host sat me and I waited 10 minutes and nobody acknowledged me at all. I would understand if it was busy but it wasn't at all. I was looking around trying to find a server. Once I stood up and looked behind the counter I saw them eating. That's when I decided to leave. I would like to believe that a manger wasn't there because this is a terrible representation of the brand. If the manager was there, please do better training. Norma's cafe is great addition to the Northpark area! I have fell in love with the one in they have in Oak Cliff. Norma's is truly where you are served a delicious home cooked styled meal. I heard that there was a Norma's closer to where I lived and I had to check it out! I was first greeted by a kind and courteous host. We were quickly seated which surprised me because it did seem busy especially since it was Sunday brunch time. Our waitress tended to us quickly and gave us our drinks and rolls and cornbread. You have to get the cinnamon butter spread and use it on the rolls and cornbread it is to die for! I love getting the catfish platter which is tasty and truly one of the catfish dishes in town! The dish is fulfilling leaving you full with leftovers to take home. The sides are perfect with this dish! The mash potatoes and broccoli are my to go side dishes but truly any of them are good! We came to Norma's for the first time tonight, and had a mixed experience: Ambience: Clean and shiny and well lit, antique decor and fun old Dallas historical photos on the walls. Stainless steel tables and breakfast bar. Service: Cheerful and prompt, solid with very few missed steps, not worth detailing. Food: Friday night catfish nuggets special was lukewarm, rubbery, and soggy, like it had been sitting on a warming tray for 20-30 mins. As a daily featured special, this should be cooked fresh to order. Fried shrimp, hot and fresh, clearly cooked to order. Sides: Pinto beans and black eyes peas were okay, but oversalted. Turnip greens were just right, elevated to perfection by a few shakes from the bottle of pepper vinegar. Kale salad was pretty good, much like what you find in most grocery store delis. Slices glazed carrots were fine, cooked to just the right firmness and lightly sweetened. Pie: Coconut cream meringue, the best (and cheapest, at 3.49) thing we ate by a wide margin tonight here. Every component was perfectly proportioned and flavored, with a light flaky crust. I suspect these pies are made in centralized bakeries and distributed to the several stores in the metroplex daily, and they are excellent by any standards, based on our sublime slice. read more

Went to Normas on MLK holiday and there was actually a short wait so they were relatively busy. This location is tucked in the back of a shopping center just off the highway, but transforms into a diner themed dive once you enter. I ordered a texas scrambler and French toast, and although they were busy I did not have to wait long for my food. The portion size is great, you'll have plenty food. My eggs were tasty and the salsa gave it the perfect kick, but the French toast was by far my favorite. I'd like to call myself a French toast connoisseur of sorts. I like a particular bread etc. and, so it looked pretty good but rather ordinary. I spread the butter on my slices, poured some of the syrup on it, and cut a small piece off to taste...fireworks.in.my.mouth. Like...I was shocked that it was so perfect. The bread was soft and melted in my mouth and the FLAVOR - yes I have been dreaming about this French toast all week. I'm sure everything is great, but you HAVE TO try the French toast. 10/10. Walked up and was told to wear a mask to enter. My friend went back to the car to get his. I waited by the door. Another couple walked up and was told they needed mask. The lady asked their name and put them on a list. They had to return to their car to get a mask. I told the lady we were ready as my friend had returned with his mAsk. She said I was not on the list. The gentleman that made my friend go back for a mask neglected to put us on the list. The lady said since we were not on the list we would have to wait. She let in the folks that came after us. Even after I explained we were ready and had on mask she made us wait until the other couple returned with their mask. She then seated them ahead of us. Kept saying we had to be on the list. We left and will not be back. The man that made my friend go get his mask said nothing about a list. He just closed the door and had me wait outside for my friend to return from the car.
