I've been coming to this location for many years. It's always consistent and delicious. The happy hour is always enticing and the daily specials keep me coming back to the website to see what's in today. The service is attentive and present when needed. The oysters are always shucked well. The ambiance is relaxed and approachable no matter where you are in your day. I've come in before in a bad mood and always leave feeling lifted. My only complaint is one time when I ordered a body mary, it was served with a shrimp that was spoiled. They keep them in the bar area so I just shrugged it off as one off, but I'm still hesitant to order that one again. I hate how much that sticks with me given all the great times I've had. I'll keep coming back and maybe give the drink another try, but that gold margarita is so solid it's hard to resist. read more

Swung by for a quick dinner in the neighborhood. Sat out on the patio which had plenty of seating and was a nice open area. I ordered the spicy crawfish tacos and they were great. Good quality crawfish, pickled jalapeños on top, and it came served with black beans and rice. Plenty of different fish options, grilled, blackened and fried. One of my favorite places to eat! I love raw oysters and they have their own brand "Mermaid ". Very good actually. Oyster nachos are not great, order something else. Fried catfish is great! We decided on the Oyster Nacho starter and what an absolute treat these are, a perfectly fried oyster served on top of a tortilla with a chipotle sauce topped with pico de gallo and these are best enjoyed with a drizzle of Cajun Chef hot sauce. Between the strong crunch of the tortilla chip, the lightly crisp exterior of the oyster and its velvety center topped with the brightness of fresh pico, not to mention the light smokey chipotle sauce, I could easily enjoy a double order with a good hurricane!! One of the chef's specials for the evening was an Herb Crusted Cod Oscar, topped with lump crab meat, hollandaise sauce and grilled asparagus on top of a bed of white rice. The cod was perfectly cooked having a light, buttery flavor and the herbed crust on the outside was delicately seasoned and did not overwhelm the natural flavor of the fish itself. The Hollandaise sauce was lovely however the asparagus was blanched a little too long before being grilled so it was a bit limp and not as bright green and crisp tender as I prefer but that would be my only critique. My husband was really impressed with the blackened shrimp Po Boy as the shrimp was well cooked and not over seasoned or salty. I was able to enjoy a couple of his shrimp that managed to fall out of his sandwich and they were seriously delicious. read more

We decided to try this restaurant and were not disappointed. We got fried catfish and shrimp with the basmati rice and risotto, shrimp and chicken pasta, and blackened trout. The catfish/ shrimp and pasta dishes were excellent. We were a bit disappointed by the trout. It was delicious, but definitely not blackened. It was just grilled trout. Fish City a.k.a. Half Shells has been my goto local seafood chain from the get go . This location has mostly been consistent in quality and flavor. Service is good. Prices are upper mid but if you skip drinks and apps etc. It's not over the top comparatively. Pro tip: happy hour cheeseburger. Medium rare. Shrimp (oyster ) nachos were unique. The base is crispy flour tortillas instead of corn. Which gives it a deconstructed empanada vibe. There's a cajun theme to the menu. Blackened options, gumbo, crab cakes etc. but it's not trying to be a cajun restaurant. There's HH specials. Though it's too far from the coast to get fresh dish at this price point. I assume other than oysters, Crawfish (boil) and an occasional special, most of the seafood comes frozen. Not a knock. means I don't like oysters. So. I understand that I can't speak to the taste or quality of the oysters. But they do pride themselves on them. What else? Pro tip #2. If you sit on the west side of the bar, you are almost guaranteed to NOT be hit by a car. The odds would be incredible to happen again. The area is nice. Patio small but not horrible unless it's 4-6pm if you're sitting in the west side. Damn. What's up with the west side? Anyhoo. Pro tip #3 the Cole slaw sucks. (Vinegar based, no fat or flavor).sub for anything else. My standby when I can't decide. 2 choice meal. Shrimp and catfish both blackened, garlic sautéed spinach and ether mashed potatoes or if they have the season coated fries... yes. Soggy waffle fries... no thanks, get the mashed potatoes. Also kudos to the owners about allowing us to have our son join us eating at the bar. It seems some people think it's weird or whatever. This is a family restaurant. If we want to sit at the bar then why can't our son join us. I'm so happy and grateful that the high ups deemed it unfriendly to deny us for some weird ill described reasons. Seems not all places are as family friendly. Like Shady's recently. Another local place we used to go sit as a family at the bar. But alas. This used to be my "go to" for seafood. Loved the fish tacos but today's lunch was a big disappointment. I took a friend to lunch and we shared an order of fish tacos. I'm not sure they deveined it and that gives it a fishy taste. There wasn't enough fish there to be considered a fish taco. I think IF I go back I will ask for their hamburger. I didn't want to send it back but I could tell my friend wasn't impressed either. I know places are trying to cut cost because everything is more expensive but a $50 lunch should get you a decent meal.....don't ya think? read more

OYSTERS - The waiter stopped by with my six, happy hour oysters ($2.50 each), "You hit the jackpot!" My friend and I looked down to see oysters the size of a cow tongue staring back up. I immediately sent 'em back and asked for the smallest (I typically shoot for the size of a mandarin orange) they had. The ones they brought were still large, but I was not going to choke on their way down. CHOWDER - Exactly what you'd expect; no stand out components. REDFISH - I ordered the special, Blacked Redfish with Blue Cheese Butter (see picture), served on mashed potatoes and pan fried asparagus. Given the normally high ratings, I'm just going to assume I got really unlucky with Fish City Grill tonight. It was my first time ordering from them (DoorDash) and it ended with me throwing up within seconds of my final bite. Please keep in mind I rarely ever write reviews... I'm pretty easy to please, but this one really warranted a bad review. I ate a little bit of each in the following order: -Have a look at the photo of the seafood platter. Basically, half of the fried oysters came with breading and half came without--how does that even happen? The ones that were breaded tasted fine although a bit soggy. The food comes in these very likely expensive clear containers, but the expense sort of washes out if the staff does not poke in the precut vents to keep fried foods crispy. -The clam chowder was pretty good and what I ate most of, though I think both there could've been more clams. -The crab cake was alright but needed more time in the pan...it wasn't quite the color or the texture you would expect. -The slaw was swinming in the apple vinegar . Had to put it down. -The gumbo...I couldn't do more than one bite. It was like someone spilled a jar of filé powder into the pot. I was feeling just fine before eating, but after that last bite, my body just rejected it all. It happened so suddenly, I unfortunately didn't make it to restroom in time. I don't know what specifically caused the upset, but given its seafood, I'm going to have to throw it all out to be on the safe side. Not a great feeling knowing how much I spent. read more
