I've had to do laundry here a few times now and it seems like every time there's a major issue, my clothes getting locked in after arriving 3 minutes past closing time, the quarter machines eating $20 and not getting a refund for several days, the washers and dryers are mediocre at best and over priced. The owner kicked me out once for having an unlit cigarette in my mouth, yelling "no smoking" probably 100+ times without ever seeing a lit cigarette. New to the neighborhood, I dropped my laundry here for wash & fold after a recommendation from a friend. When I got my laundry back, a light sweater had been washed with the darks and was ruined. No big deal - I have messed up plenty of laundry, but when I'm paying someone to help me out, I expect them to take ownership. The owner refused to admit fault and said the guy who washed the clothes (who was VERY nice to me, btw) was sure he'd sorted it correctly. I had a receipt proving that the sweater was new and it was the first wash, but she told me she didn't believe me. We argued to the point where I had to threaten with a negative review to get her to pay me for the sweater. If she had apologized in the first place and offered me any kind of compensation (like laundry on the house), I would have been satisfied because these things happen. But to call me a liar and make me fight for any kind of validation is truly poor business. To top it off, she asked me to go and make a photocopy of my receipt and bring it back for her records. #FAIL read more

This is review is only regarding the machines and self laundering. Been coming here for a year and I've had mixed experiences. After a while I discovered that the washing machines along the wall get more water pumped into them and wash your clothes much better. Unfortunately this was after multiple loads which weren't thoroughly cleaned. The dryers- it's a crapshoot. Some work great, some don't. I've had hour long cycles end with wet clothes. The good news is if you just tell the attendant (who I'm pretty sure is the owner) they will give you a handful of quarters to re-dry your load. Unfortunately you don't get your time back. Lately they also upped the cost of drying- it used to be 6 min per quarter and now it's only 5...anyway the dryer I always use is 19 and it's pretty reliable. read more

A little pricey and their regular load machines are pretty small, but this is a good, solid place all around. I wish there was more seating, however. Pluses: Nice owners who always greet you with a smile, machines work, things dry fairly well, everything is clean, open late and the change machine doesn't give you much hassle. I do like using the large machines in the back. I can do a month's worth of laundry in two machines. On the weekends, however, those machines are in high demand and the owners use them to wash clothing through their wash-n-fold service (I don't know why they don't wash all the clothes at off times) so it can cause an irritating backup and scuffle to be next in line for their use. read more

I get that he likely has a lot of people that are using up quarters for other reasons, but when a customer comes up to the counter asking to get quarters to do laundry in the place of business and he flat out act like a c u next tuesday he deserves zero stars. Been going here for years and this guy just goes full twat for no reason and after the third time - done. Will this review change anything? Nope. But just be aware the quarter changers rarely work and don't bother with the owner as he's completely worthless. Lower Haight is dirty yet the neighborhood has Haight To Wash which is by far the cleanest place to do your laundry. Whenever I go over to wash, the lady who works there (I think her name is Jenny) is cleaning the place. They have some older looking picnic tables in the back where you can read while you wait for your wash and she even cleans the picnic tables with soap and water. I love that! Jenny is also very nice. One day I was doing my laundry and she was even cleaning all the lint holders with rubber gloves and goggles on! She takes this stuff serious. Clean laundry place is good, dirty laundry place is bad. You can also drop your laundry off, and they do dry clean. The place is on the expensive side but for clean facilities, I'll pay extra. There's nothing worse than doing your laundry and looking down on the ground to see grime. Grime is never a good thing near my clean clothes. I added an extra star for location; across from Toronado, next door to Mad Dog, across from Rosamunde, and a block from Danny Coyles. I added one more star because so far, three times I've been doing my wash, I've heard classic Madonna. (For the record, I've seen all her tours) First time I heard Lucky Star, ah Lucky Star! Second time was Holiday, and just today I heard Borderline. Nothing like a little Borderline to take me back to my Lesportsac days at Fashion Island Shopping mall drinking my Orange Julius. Terrible experience. The change machine was broken. I walked to service counter, attendant was in a zombie state watching television. Proceeded to insult me multiple times -- I don't recognize you, we have change for customers only, where is your laundry? (In the two bags over my shoulders). So I'll just say at the outset that this isn't my story to tell. And it's not much of a story at all but if you're wondering about the crazy counter lady (CCL) at Haight to Wash, there's something about her that may not be right. I don't know the particulars but I was greeted the other day by a screaming match between CCL and a male patron. Her engrish was bad, his speech was hurried by anger but suffice it to say that it ended with him calling her a 'f%@cking c#nt.' Don't be worried, like I was, she was fine. In fact she didn't skip a beat in her phone conversation and CCL put the phone to her ear without so much as a sigh. A true laundry professional. Do not f#@ck with her. The nasty little Asian man running the place wouldn't give me change when the machine was broken even though I could see rolls of quarters behind him. He gestured and told me to go some place else. Very centrally located, though this may not be a plus for everyone if you don't like walking your delicates down Haight St. I think what sets this laundromat apart from others in the area is the on-site staff at the window in the back. So many other laundromats have busted washers/dryers or change machines, and you usually just have to hope it will be fixed the next time you come. Totally normal laundrymat. When I goto a place with 13 pounds of quarters in my pockets, I'm not expecting fine dining. The machines work, they have all the usual soaps and things there to buy, and the place isn't a ripoff. I saw some reviews somewhere that said the lady that worked here was crazy, but she seemed really nice to me. They have a little place outback where u can read a book or whatever in the sun. Not bad. Update: --------- Don't buy the box of dryer sheets from the auto dispenser. Its 2 of em for .75 cents. If you goto the lady at the desk, she sells em there for .25cents each. Beat the system baby!! Finally, a functioning kick-ass Laundromat a half block from my apartment. Haight to Wash (HTW) is the best. I did my laundry here for a few weeks when they first opened under the new management (Jenny?) then realized they offer wash/fold service, so yay, no more doing my own laundry. Only thing I hate more is changing my underwear every week. God, I really HATE that. You too, huh? First off, the place is VERY CLEAN, well maintained and monitored. Wash and fold is always perfect and not an article of my clothing has been ruined, by say, excess bleach left in the machine prior. Jenny is super-friendly. I was surprised that one Yelper had issues with her. Who knows, maybe it wasn't Jenny's attitude but theirs that got them off on the wrong foot. "What!, it couldn't be me!?!?" Granted, I wasn't there and I'm not trying to be accusatory, just a-wonderin'. HTW is very clean. An attendant, Jenny 90% of the time, is always there during the posted hours. Also, there's a well-maintained patio out back that's spacious with picnic tables; great for catching up on some leisure reading, homework, crack smoking, etc. Oh wait, there's a sign that says no drinking or drugs allowed. They are open comparatively late though they do close early at their discretion which I'm OK with. I suspect if I owned a Laundromat it would be tough sitting around (my days starting at 8:30am) waiting for that last straggler to come in at 9:30pm. So she closes early some days, I understand, but she notifies you when you come in. Great location for us Lower Haight locals. Even though I no longer do my own laundry, I can use a Laundromat drop-off visit as an excuse to wander over to one of my neighborhood watering holes, Toronado or Mad Dog. I do remember in the past that it seemd the machines were taking a while (an hour) to dry the clothes but sometimes I would notice too late that I forgot to hit the "High" temp button on the machine. Doh. Or maybe I had overloaded the drier. "What do you mean you can't put four towels, six sweaters and three pairs of jeans in there!?!" I haven't compared prices to other Laundromats but all the pluses (location, attended, services and very clean!) of the new Haight to Wash make it worth the whatever they charge. Can't imagine one Laundromat is so much more expensive then another, but again, I have not compared. Some of you might remember that, BEFORE Jenny took over, for years it seemed that all the machines except for maybe two were broken. They all had "Out of Order" Post-It notes on them. I wash my clothes here because it's nearby and it's clean. Redeeming qualities aside now, I am terrified of Haight to Wash. Actually, I'm afraid of its owner. I haven't yet incurred her wrath, but I know the day will come. How do I know this? Let me demonstrate. Here is a typical trip to Haight to Wash: You enter the laundromat with your bag of dirty clothes, eager to accomplish something, anything, today (okay, that's just me). Haight to Wash is clean, and so are its customers. You like this. But the laundromat is eerily quiet, and so are its customers. Everyone seems nervous. You don't like this. You go to the change machine, where you encounter a huge sign which informs you that a) you must insert only crisp bills; b) you may not insert bills at all if you are not washing clothes here; c) YOU MUST INSERT ONLY CRISP BILLS!!!!; d) if your bill jams the machine, you will be responsible for all repair costs, plus a $50 fee. Worried, you ask the owner if you can exchange your crisp-ish bill for a Crisp Bill (tm). She eyes you with what we'll charitably call contempt, and half-yells, "No, you can only get a bill if you're doing laundry here!" "But I am doing laundry here." "WHERE'S YOUR LAUNDRY, THEN?!" You point at your clothes. Maybe your eyes well up with tears, or maybe you're not a wimp like me. All smiles, "Oh, okay, then here's a crisp bill." You approach the change machine on wobbly knees. Your hands shake as you insert the bill. *Please, please, please don't jam.* A long pause--then quarters, sweet quarters. As you load your clothes, you can feel, you know, THAT FEELING; somebody is staring at you, possibly with hatred. And SURPRISE of surprises, it's the owner. She is watching to make sure that you aren't "overloading" her machines. Good thing you saw one of those signs she posted about it when you walked back from the change machine. You shift your body to block her view and greedily stuff the washer to capacity! Oooooh! You're surprised to find no warning signs about overloading the dryers, but don't worry, she didn't entirely forget about them. Above the dryers you find a sign which warns: a) do not put rain wet clothes in the dryer!; b) if you put rain wet clothes in the dryer, you must pay $150; and c) (this part is hard to see because you need a new glasses prescription, so it could be inaccurate) you can pay $180 in advance to dry rain wet clothes. When you finish washing your clothes, you leave the building with two loads of clean clothes, $8 gone, and a lingering sense of anxiety. You do feel sort of accomplished; you did, after all, wash your laundry as planned, and you got some (sign) reading in, too. read more

I just returned home from one of the worst experiences of my life. I will NEVER RETURN TO THIS GOD AWFUL ESTABLISHMENT. First of all, the washing machines are $4. The change machine was refusing my $5 and $10 bill. When I told the older Asian man in back that the machine was not taking my money, he insisted that it was working. I asked for change (as there was a cashing register next to him) and he aggressively insisted that he could not give me change. I invited him to see for himself to let him know I wasn't making anything up. He spent 5 minutes trying to put the money in change machine all to discover that *gasp* IT DIDN'T WORK. Upon going to the cash register and switching to a crisp bill, the machine gave me the quarters needed. Fast forward, with 3 and 2 minutes left on my dryers ($0.25 gets you 5 minutes), the man tells me to hurry up. I calmly tell him that I have 3 and 2 minutes left and will left as soon as they finish. The man proceeds to yell at me saying "you are wasting my time! I close at 10PM and it is 10:10" Now, it isn't my fault that my clothes were not dry from the expensive ass dryer, so why the major 'tude? My two dryers then say I have 1 and 2 minutes left and he yells "you need to leave, NOW!" I say to him, "why are you being so rude? I literally have two minutes left for my clothes to dry!" He then turns off the lights just as one of my dryers ends. I had to turn the light on my phone on just to see my clothes and put them in my laundry bag. I tell him he's an asshole and ask him to turn on the light. Once I get my clothes together, I tell him that this is no way to treat a customer and that his customer service skills are beyond terrible to which he response "you're terrible!" As I walked out, he called the police and told them I refused to leave...AS I STOOD OUTSIDE HIS OPEN DOOR. I called 911 on him and once I told him the police was on their way, he left. I will NEVER, EVER patronize this POS business again. The place is (relatively) clean but it's too expensive especially for the horrid person they have working there. Clean, fast, lots of laundry machines, and a nice outdoor area for waiting. I use the wash and fold services. It is a bit expensive but the man in charge is very nice and I trust him with my laundry. They also take credit cards, which is a HUGE plus in my book (though no American Express). read more

i love this place! i've dropped my laundry off a few times for wash and fold and the gentleman who worked there remembered who i was! super friendly service. i wear a lot of dark clothing and i'm always worried about the color fading but whatever detergent they use here keeps the color awesome. no worries there. also, $1/lb for wash and fold seems like a good deal to me. i'd probably have to pay close to that anyway to separate my clothes properly and then wash and dry them all myself. plus i don't have to take the time out to sit at the laundromat and keep an eye on my laundry. i've dropped mine off in the morning and picked it up later in the same day. they're really fast about getting your stuff back to you. sad i don't live in the lower haight anymore, otherwise i would go here all the time. read more

The dryers don't work well at all. Not one to over-stuff a dryer, a load of ~8 dress shirts and a few pairs of socks (no jeans or hoodies or towels or anything else that takes a long time) ran for 35 minutes and were scarcely drier than when they came out of the washer. I moved them to another machine, ran them for another 30 minutes, only to take them home damp. On the upside, the place has an attendant, a fact that I'd imagine discourages theft. Your clothes will likely make it home with you, if requiring a hang dry back in your apartment. Oh yeah, it's overpriced to boot. I won't be back. read more

This place has awful customer service and deceptive business practices. I just moved to the neighborhood and came in last Thursday morning to have a couple shirts dry cleaned. The owner/manager let me know that it will take until Monday to get the shirts back. Since Monday was Memorial Day I asked twice to make sure I'll have my shirts back that day. When I came in on Monday, I was told that they didn't have the shirts back because their delivery service was closed. This was utter deceit. On top of that, they charge more than most pickup/delivery laundry services (ie laundry locker or rinse). I recommend doing anything to avoid this place. They are overpriced and don't care about the customers at all. I am never coming back. read more

The woman who works there is super nice, she does a great job with my clothes, colors never bleed, items don't shrink and it's pretty reasonably priced. I picked it because it was relatively close to my new house and a few reviews mentioned clean machines. I'm really disappointed with everything about this place. The prices are a ripoff for the washers. Then I was next door getting a pedicure and was 5 minutes after my loads were done and some other patron had already removed and tossed my clothes aside. According to the customer, the manager had approved him tossing my clothes aside. When there are at least 10 machines free I'm sorry but that is REALLY NOT OK. Worst service ever. I also asked if I could rinse off my hand in the back because there was some sticky substance in the table I put my hand on and the manager said no. You went from a 3 star to a 1 star and deservedly so. For the same money I could go to a reputable cleaner and have laundry service next time. read more

Hella' expensive!!!! The only thing nice I can say about this place is it's clean. And that is really too kind. Most will agree that the crazy lady behind the counter is a piece of work! My friends, house-mates, and neighbors like to refer to her as the "Laundry Nazi"!! LOL. She puts Seinfeld's "Soup Nazi" to shame. She is NOT nice.
