They use good oil filters and good quality oil. You can walk over to the Costco complex nearby to pass the time. The guy in the office was very friendly and knowledgeable. Seemed like they were doing quite a few larger repairs on older cars: things like brakes and rotors; replacing worn suspension parts; repairing leaks, etc. Thankfully I don't need any of those repairs yet, but I will keep this shop in mind when the time comes for bigger repairs. One thing is that they don't do tire installation, I think because it's a smaller space.

It was shuddering, and the check engine light was coming on. I was notified it was "fixed" about a week later. I paid $6000 and took the van. It was still doing the same shuddering and check engine light coming on. I told Dylan and he said, "oh it will just go away when you drive it more". A lie. Any mechanic knows things just don't "go away". It went back to the shop to be "fixed". About 2 weeks later it was returned and I was told its "fixed". I drove the van to Lake Tahoe and it was shuddering and dong the same thing as when I brought it in the very first time, not fixed! After a week in Tahoe they reluctantly came and drove it back to Santa Rosa. This back and forth went on for about 2 1/2 months. I paid $6000 and the van is still operating the exact same way it did when I brought it in August 8th. I called the Bureau of Automotive Repair and they went to the shop and verified the van is not fixed and told the owner, Dylan, to return my van AND my $6000, (per my request) because the job was NOT done. Dylan said he will return the van on October 31st, but refused to return my money. When the Bureau of Automotive Repair tells a shop owner to return money because they didn't perform the service that was paid for, you know that business is corrupt and needs to be shut down. It is October 29, 2005 and I asked for the van back and my $6000 I paid 2 months ago, because the van runs exactly the same as when I brought it in, it's NOT fixed. I spent over $7000 on hotels because I do not live in Santa Rosa, as well as lost work, as well as an unbelievable amount of stress. Aside from not fixing the van, I had to constantly call the shop to get updates, they rarely called me to update me as to what is going on. Its like they put the van in the back and didn't care to fix it because they already had my money! Meanwhile my hotel bills were piling up. Vaughan's Transmission and Auto Repair took my $6000 and didn't fix the problem I hired them to fix. THAT IS THEFT! DISHONEST FAMILY, DISHONEST BUSINESS! I will be suing for damages, unreasonable time for hotel costs, as well as loss of work because of this incompetent business. DO NOT USE THESE INCOMPETENT PEOPLE! I brought that paperwork to Ricks and asked them to fix my car and anything else needed. Keith gave me a verbal quote of $695. Again, I trusted them from past service. Agreed to the verbal quote. The O2 sensor was replaced- CEL off. Unfortunately, VSC & TRAC OFF are still on. Rick's doesn't have the equipment to clear those codes/fix this problem on any LEXUS. They suggested I go to a dealer and try to get a free fix on an expired service bulletin/recall- no luck there. I'm happy the CEL is off. I'm disappointed that I didn't get a full fix especially when I was told they are a full service shop that day by 2 different people. Sadly, I should have insisted on a printed quote and I will from now on.

And... the same exact parts were $250 more than at AutoZone or at O'Reilly Auto Parts. I learned an expensive lesson... always get a written estimate! Warranty: Regarding the markup of parts for a that 2 year/24,0000 mile warranty... most manufactures of rotors already offer a lifetime warranty for defects. Written Estimate: Essential to avoid miscommunication. Unless your installing windshield wipers... every single customer that is quoted hundreds of dollars for services should automatically be provided with a written estimate period! Cutting Corners: A reasonable assumption would be one in which auto mechanical repair jobs are inherently associated with areas of safety concerns. What jobs wouldn't be & how does that justify price gouging? Discount: If you suffered a foodborne illness after dining in a restaurant would you accept a discount or complementary meal for your inconvenience?
