I'm in the process of a full mouth restoration at a highly rated dentist who couldn't believe what he was seeing in Dr. Tsaknis' work. Some things with care and experience simply shouldn't happen: painful gum necrosis due to a crown pinching the gum; incomplete root canals failing and becoming infected within a month of being capped and then requiring extraction (after spending a few thousand for treatment and crown). He wanted to break my jaw to realign the bite he misaligned by pulling the failed root canals and teeth shifting. New dentist is able to correct my bite and said breaking my jaw to do so was absurd. Avoid this self-absorbed moron at all costs. It's as though he didn't pay attention AT ALL in dental school or more likely: his parents bought him a DDS.

I left with an inexplicable root canal that continues to cause me pain daily. Please note, I have NEVER had any issues, required procedures, or problems with my dental profile before sitting in his chair. After several conversations with him, and enduring seven inexplainable appts, I'm convinced his license should be revoked. Moreover, both his arrogance and lack of quality customer service & leadership is testament to the constant employee turnover in his office. I could go on with the negative sentiment but will stop here; in hopes, that he partners with additional dental providers that are more technically proficient and professional than he.

What should have been a standard preventive cleaning turned into a painful and unnecessarily aggressive experience. During the procedure, there was significant pain and excessive bleeding, far beyond what is normal for a routine cleaning. Even more concerning, one of the fillings in my molar was pulled out during the cleaning, something that has never happened to me in any prior dental visit. At no point was there a clear explanation for the level of force being used, nor was my discomfort adequately addressed during the appointment. A routine dental cleaning should not result in pain, heavy bleeding, or damage to existing dental work. I have had many cleanings over the years, and this was by far the most uncomfortable and poorly handled experience. Based on what happened, I genuinely don't understand how this practice maintains such high ratings. Patients should not be expected to accept this level of care as normal. I would not return or recommend this office based on my experience.

Apparently I had some calculus that required additional work which resulted in the extra charge but no one told me about this during the cleaning, even though I asked "is this included?" every step of the way. The billing person at the end also tried to tell me that with this additional fee to clean calculus (roughly $60), insurance might deny the cleaning so I might be sent a bill for that ($53) by insurance (what?) I insisted that made no sense as cleaning was explicitly covered by insurance, but said was willing to pay the calculus cleaning charge since it seemed legit. I now fear that I shouldn't even have paid for that. The whole thing made me not trust the clinic. If you are not familiar with insurance or a naturally shy person, I would suggest that you would need to step outside your comfort zone to visit this place for the billing conversation.

Though it looks…read morelike some other reviewers have had better experiences with her, I note that she gives patients giftcards in exchange for positive reviews. My two young children were patients of Dr. McKenzie from 2025-2026; though we have had problems with her from the beginning, we put up with her because her office was conveniently located downtown. We had made our first appointment with her for a routine cleaning, for which she charged us $398. When my children showed minor discomfort with the dental chair, instead of working with my children or giving me a chance to put them at ease, she made me take more time off of work to come back later. During the follow-up appointment, the cleaning was less thorough than the twice-daily brushing that the children have at home. She did not use a polisher or any other dental tools, and the only task that she did that I could not do myself was apply flouride paste to the children's teeth. We came back after my daughter fell and injured her mouth. I had mistakenly thought that my daughter's tooth had fallen out and wanted to get the injury professionally examined. Dr. McKenzie was so inept that, even after examining my daughter, she did not realize that the tooth was actually pushed into my daughter's gum. (I found out weeks later after the tooth began reemerging.) The last straw for us happened when we were 15 minutes late for one of the children's appointments due to a subway delay. (The children had back to back appointments scheduled at 10am and 1030am.) We had called in advance of the appointment to let Dr. McKenzie know that we would be running late and provided an accurate ETA, and Dr. McKenzie's assistant told us that we could still come in. It was not until after we arrived that we were told that both of the appointments would be cancelled, even though we had called ahead and were 15 minutes early for the second appointment, and that we would be charged a $200 cancellation fee.
