I Love this place. The new North Fork is such a wonderful space - Dr. Sheriff and his staff are the top of the line. We take our dogs there and have always been treated so well. When our old dog needed help, they were there for her and made her last days bearable. I've never had to put a dog down before, but when it came time, they were so wonderful to us and her. Paws down, the BEST Veterinary Clinic my pet's have ever been to! After living all over CA and seeing many different Veterinarians over the years, I know that North Fork Veterinary Clinic is the best in the West. Dr. Sheriff has always been able to diagnose an issue with my pets by using just his hands and his mind (and education and years of practice...). I agree with the other Yelper's that he would NEVER recommend any additional tests to be run, or unnecessary procedures to be done, if he truly didn't think that they needed to be done. Also, ALL of the Veterinarian's that I've seen here are superb! Trust whomever you get. Dr. Sheriff and his staff are all looking out for the welfare of the animals. They do what they can to be as up front as possible regarding price quoting for surgical procedures. They have treated every single one of my pets over the years, from a simple spay/neuter, to chemotherapy for osteosarcoma, to knee surgeries, tartar scaling and teeth removal, and also basic wellness exams as my pets age. I only wish that I lived up here when one of my dog's needed to have surgery on his spine...! Take your pet here. You won't be disappointed. When you call, I hope you get Cathy - she's amazing! And if you call and get put on hold, just know that they are working hard on the other end. This Veterinary office is excellent. I cannot say enough wonderful things about the staff and veterinary service that I have received for my two aging dogs. One of whom is in Congenital Heart Failure and the other who just had to have multiple teeth out. They are incredibly caring, honest, very reasonably priced, and I have received EXCELLENT CARE for my dogs. Even through out the COVID shut downs they have proved excellent customer service and I recommend them HIGHLY. read more

I called to try to get my dog seen, he's been acting unlike himself and wanted to make sure he was alright since his behavior was a bit troubling. I had called at least 6 or 7 other vets before I called them and got their answering service. The first guy I talked to was very nice and understanding. When he came back from trying to get ahold of someone he said they would only see my dog if he had already been seen in the last 24 hours. I let him know he hasn't been seen there and mentioned I had called all those other vets when he had started to refer me elsewhere. When he mentioned he would get them to at least call me I told him I really appreciated it since it had been more than I'd gotten anywhere else. I got a call about 4 hours later from some very rude girl from the answering service telling me there was a set window I could be seen tomorrow and if I wasn't there by that time I wouldn't be seen. I told her I totally understood and I would be there earlier than that slot to make sure I arrived in time. She went on to mention that I had "insisted" on being seen. I let her know I hadn't insisted, I had simply mentioned I had called all the places the other guy had mentioned. She said she assumed I had insisted from the notes in their system. I just replied with an okay and a thank you, knowing there was no reason to justify myself when I know that wasn't what happened. What I didn't expect was the "dumb bitch" followed by furious typing that she uttered into the phone when she thought the line had disconnected. It would be one thing if I was deserving of that, maybe if I had been rude to either person I spoke to but that just wasn't the case. I took my dog to a different vet and will not be recommending North Fork to anyone in the future. read more

I am changing Vets. Took my dog in for an allergy shot and a refill of some topical medicine. The bill was $138.00. $60.00 was for an annual check up (that was not due but as the person at the desk explained, "Well, it is almost due so we charged you. The law says that the Vet cannot dispense medication if the annual check up is almost due." The annual check up took about a minute and consisted mostly of the Vet asking me..."How's he doing" Response from me: "He's doing fine." "Okay then, I will be back with the shot" So I will be changing vets for the same reason I would change Primary Care Physicians. Lack of professional care and made up excuses about why a charge was applied when a service was not provided. read more

We have recently switched over to Animal medical Center after experiencing the BEST customer service from the front desk, Vets and Techs! Front desk at North Fork is why we switched. 90% of the time they are rude and snappy, usually its an older brunette woman that seems like she hates her job...the younger employees are alot nicer especially the younger blonde guy working the front, he's always super nice. You feel rushed when you see the vets, except for one, Lyndsey I believe? (she's there Monday-tuesdays). They also have plants that are poisonous to cats and dogs scattered around the lobby floor :-/. Hopefully they can get a nicer group of women working the front desk. read more

Dr Whitten was so kind and compassionate. She was very thorough, took her time, and offered several treatment options. Due to a mass that was found, I had to put my beloved Barney to sleep. Again, Dr. Whitten and all the staff were very considerate and the procedure was as humane as possible. I would recommend this dr and facility. read more

I can't recommend North Fork any more. They have been really good to me over the last 6 years that I have been going, but after my last visit I can't return. I went in for a visit to booster a lepto shot, it was a vet tec visit. I had prepaid and I was getting ready to leave. I look out to see if any other dogs were coming in and an off leash dog (a pit mix) was running lose in the parking lot. My dog a German Shepherd mix is okay with other dogs but I decided to wait to walk out until the other dog was put on a leash and I voiced my concern to the vet tec who was leaving the room. The man and his still off leash dog checked in now, were going to a room and I though it was okay to leave. I was walking towards the door when I hear the vet tec calling the dog from the room and around the corner comes the off leash dog. Me being in the middle of the two dogs holding this off leash dog in one hand by the collar and mine by the collar on the brink of a fight. The owner comes around and I admit I was very upset and I yelled at him put your dog on a leash. His response was leashes cause aggression and his dog does fine with other dogs, him not knowing of my dog likes other dogs or not. I left very upset with North Fork for 1 not making this man leash his dog and 2 not maintaining control of this dog as it put me and my dog in a very dangerous situation. I just can't return after this incident. read more

Dr. Sheriff and staff are amazing. Our 11 month old lab, Hudson, was hit by a truck and suffered severe injuries to both back legs. Dr. Sheriff operated on both legs (surgeries that included pins, screws, artificial ligaments, the works...) Hudson has a ways to go, but thanks to him he is starting to walk on all four legs. The entire staff has shown compassion and attention towards both us and to Hudson in his healing process - a long process! We have been at the vet a minimum of two days a week for the past 6 weeks, and the staff has made it so much easier on me and on Hudson. You know you have a great vet and staff when you take your dog that often for treatment/follow up and he walks into the office wagging his tail, happy to see everyone! Thank you all!! read more

Our dog needed knee surgery due to a luxating patella (knee cap slid over to the side of her knee). Dr. Dill did the surgery in February and our dog's knee is just like new. Doggy had some recovery time, just as we were advised. It's now 10 months post surgery and our dog is running all over the place. She healed perfectly. Staff was very friendly, helpful and sympathetic to our concerns about Lucy's surgery. We live 200 miles away and came here on our breeder's recommendation. Never regretted coming here. If we lived in the area, this would be our regular vet. read more

Love every experience I've had at Northfork Veterinary. I've had two dogs have extensive knee surgery one from Dr. Dill and the other from Dr Sheriff. Both outstanding vets. Very knowledgeable and always fair on pricing. Kathy is amazing too! They even have a great set up for those of us that have children. They have a cute play house with individual vet offices right next to it that have doors that open up halfway so you can watch your child and have your pet examined at the same time. I drive all the way from Sacramento just to take my dog here. These vets and staff are top notch! read more

You would have to search long and hard to find a better Vet than Dr Sheriff is. His staff are the most amazing and compassionate group of people I've ever had the pleasure to meet. I drive 45 miles to take any one of my 4 dog's there, and I wouldn't think of going anywhere else. Dr Sheriff has the most unusual way of being able to diagnose what is going on with your pet, just by what you described. He doesn't push you to have unnecessary tests done either. Dr Sheriff will get out his big book of animal illnesses / medical conditions and make sure you know exactly what is going on with your pet before you leave. Dr Sheriff truly cares about your pet. Dr. Dill is the best! He confirmed our regular vet's opinion that our smooth collie, Daisy, needed an episioplasty for her chronic UTI's of the past year. He performed a very thorough exam, explained the surgery as well as pre-op and post-op care in detail, and answered all of our questions with patience and understanding. Daisy had the surgery 3 days ago and is home recovering nicely. Dr. Dill called to check on her today and give us the results of the biopsies he had also done. I wish we lived in Auburn to have him at North Fork as our regular vet. He is an honest and caring individual -- a credit to the veterinary profession. read more

The front desk staff is rude and doesn't listen.. they didn't follow the necessary steps which were written in his record to ensure his nail trim would be without trauma. Love, love, love Dr. Sheriff! He's done ACL surgery on both knees of our male Boxer. I went to him after a friend referred me, who's dog went through the same surgery. Dr. Sheriff is very friendly, knowledgable, and well priced. Our dog was having trouble with his knee after the second knee repair and Dr. Sheriff gave us a huge break on the cost of additional follow up care. Our vet close to home does not do anything like that for us. read more

We have used North Fork Vet Clinic for 15 years. Dr. Sheriff performed an ACL repair on our dog many years ago. I appreciated his kindness and care for our pup. Last fall our 15 year old Tomcat was had drastically dropped weight and when I discovered blood in his urine, North Fork Vet was able to squeeze our kitty in that day to deliver antibiotics making him feel better quickly. Unfortunately, our old Tom didn't last much longer and we lost him a few months later. The reason I am writing this review now is this month our Tomcats littermate started showing similar symptoms and we knew from losing her brother Tom, she didn't have long. She was a sensitive girl who was very stressed with car rides and we asked North Fork if we could arrange a house call. Dr. Sheriff came to our home to peacefully put our sweet girl to rest in the comfort of her home while she purred until the end. Dr. Sheriff was so kind and caring I was inspired to write this review in gratitude for him and his clinic. Then just last week we received a condolence card from him and his staff. Every experience with this clinic has been positive, fair and always in the best interest of our pet. I am happy to recommend this clinic to anyone. read more

I wanted to like this place. It's close to work, they have a nice building, and the receptionists are friendly. Do not take your loved pet to this place. They are incompetent! I took my new puppy here. They have screwed everything up. First they gave him his rabies vaccination too early. To fix this screw up, they changed his date of birth in their computer. It's against county regulations to give this vaccination early. Ok, so no buggy. My puppy broke his toe. They put him in a splint. The splint fell apart about every three or four days. Their solution was to give my puppy tranquilizers. The splint kept falling apart. Every time I took him in to get it fixed, they charged me. After about four weeks of this we put our foot down and demanded to see a vet. They had been letting a technician treat him. After an x-ray, the vet told me his toe was not healing. No kidding! The stupid splint just kept falling apart. Their solution was to up the tranquilizers, put a thicker splint on him and send him home. The same thing happened again. The splint fell apart. We went back and again their tech wanted to put him in a splint. We demanded to see a vet and talk to the owner. They finally put a cast on my puppy. The owner bet told us he looked at the x-rays - the same x-rays the other vet looked at - and this time this vet had a different conclusion - he said the break was healing. He also told us that my puppy should have been put in a cast after one week of being in a splint. So why did they keep him in a splint for five weeks then???? Next screw up that finally convinced me that these guys are totally incompetent . . . I went to the pharmacy today to get the tranquilizer prescription refilled and they wouldn't fill it. They said it's a week too early. This is because when they upped his dose, they failed to change the prescription so my puppy used up the mess too fast. It's a controlled substance, so the pharmacy won't fill it early. I waited at the pharmacy for an hour and called Northfork three times to get the prescription fixed so it could be filled. It never happened and they didn't even call me to tell me to stop waiting at the pharmacy. I finally called them again and found out they had no record of upping my puppies dose and couldn't reach the vet who did it, so they were not going to fill it. So now he has no tranquilizers, is in a cast and was in a splint for weeks before that, and the mess just goes on and on. He likely will not sleep tonight. I was going to gradually reduce them over time once he was out of the cast, but now it's forced "cold turkey." They are so screwed up at this place. Do yourself a favor and find a smaller, more organized vet. Do not go to Northfork. I have had nothing but problems with them. They don't talk to each other or write notes in their patients files. They are unorganized and the vets contradict each other. And they charge you for their screw ups. Sorry to all you people who like this place. I had a completely different and horrible experience. read more

I took my dogs in for debark surgery, a decision that was painful and long but had to happen. I tried every alternative and was being threatened by neighbors. I was told there was a 30% they would have some audible bark return. Well within weeks both dogs are barking like they never had it done. So nearly $600 later, a traumatic experience for my dogs, it ended up being useless and didn't solve, or even help, the problem. I made multiple phone calls in an attempt to talk to the doctor and never got a return call. read more

I have to give this vet only 1 star because I called two times! The first time I called I was put on hold for 20 minutes so I hung up! The second time I called I was treated with complete disrespect on the phone! I had a few questions on what to do with my little dog who has kennel cough, and asked her for her advice! She was very rude and just kept telling me to bring my dog in and then she could answer my questions, but I had told her I couldn't afford the cost of my dog being seen! I told her that we had visited family out of town which had two dogs with kennel cough & so I was positive that this was my dogs problem! I understand that most of the time vets can't do much for you unless the dog comes in but she could have been more polite in our conversation! So I'm thinking the best thing to do is to take my dog into a vet because that's really all I can do at this point but I surely won't be taking my pet to this vet! read more

My family has been going to North Fork Vet since I was a kid. Now in my late 30's with 2 dogs of my own who are very special needs and geriatric I wouldn't go anywhere else. Dr. Laura is patient and thorough with her exams. She treats all her patients as if they were her only patient. The staff is so accommodating and understanding. They do their best to get back to you promptly, work with your schedule to get you an appointment. I make the drive from Rocklin to Auburn for all these reasons. read more

We took our Golden here. Yes they did shave him, at the tune of over double what we have every paid. Once we complained they lower it a bit but it was still much higher than anything we have every paid. Not happy that the hair between his toes was not SHAVED, which that is the biggest problem area for Goldens. Being a Vet they should have known better that just to trim hair between the toes. We were hopeful to find a new groomer and Vet but we will still be looking. read more

I had the WORST boarding experience here! My dog has been a lifelong patient and we've spent thousands of dollars trying to solve the mystery of his stomach issues. Dr. Laura is the best. But when he was there for boarding he was only fed 2 cups of the 6 cups food he should have been. They were also unaware of his usual medication regime that Dr. Laura prescribed. I took my puppies in to have their tails docked and rear dews cut. I had called in ahead of time for a quote and made an appt. When I returned to pick up the pups, they charged me almost $60 more than I was quoted. They added additional procedures onto my request and then proceeded to charge me for things I did not ask for. They never called to say they were doing anything different than I requested or that there would be an additional charge since I would have just come and picked up my puppies instead of going through with the procedure. They cut all 4 dews which I absolutely did not want and was upsetting since I don't want to traumatize the poor pups more that I have to. The rear dews are the ones always causing problems when they get older. North Fork proceeded to tell me I had to pay for their removal anyway. They vet then proceeded to lie to me saying they never just remove the back dew claws. This is untrue since I have several sets of puppies I have brought there and had only the back dew claws removed. After much arguing they finally reduced some of the charge but I will not go back there again. I had been a customer there for many years but I feel they were trying to take advantage of me and my poor pups. I think this is very unprofessional and will take my animals elsewhere in the future. read more
