Tl;dr: The people at North Highlands are wonderful. They are honest, hardworking, detailed, and communicative. It takes some time to get repairs done, but your automobile is in good hands! I've had my 1999 Toyota 4Runner since I was a kid, it was our family car. It has roadtripped cross country multiple times, been shipped to and from Hawaii, and has had its fair share of mountain hills, gravel, and dirt roads. Needless to say, I love my car. But with 300,000+ miles on it, the issue isn't IF it needs to be repaired, but WHAT needs to be repaired. In September 2024, I moved to Sacramento and my car was running smoothly. Fast forward to February 2025, my car's temperature gauge was overheating and coolant was continually disappearing from the reservoir. I took my car to an initial mechanic, he diagnosed a faulty radiator hose. I thought this was odd since I got this part replaced in August 2024. But, if this was case, I needed to take my car to a mechanic within my old mechanics warranty program (TechNet). Enter North Highlands Tire Pros. Following the previous mechanics diagnosis, Rodrigo and his team checked my car's cooling system. They found that the lower hose clamps were loose, and that the upper hose clamps were old and worn, thus causing some coolant leakage. They tightened the clamps and replaced the old ones and performed multiple coolant pressure tests to make sure the system was good to go. But that was not the root of the overheating problem. Although the engine passed multiple block tests, there was excessive white smoke coming from the tail pipes during startup. Upon pulling the spark plugs, they found excess coolant in the combustion chamber and corroded engine cylinders (yikes!), this was the true cause of the overheating. Given the cars age, Rodrigo suggested it was better to replace the whole engine instead of trying to repair the warped/corroded gaskets & cylinders. He sourced 3 low mileage engines (used). The first one had obvious signs of rust and corrosion, and the second one looked clean, but failed during the test drive (cylinders collapsed on themselves & engine had a knocking sound). At this point I was losing hope that my car would ever be fixed, but North Highlands did not give up. Rodrigo and his team personally went to the used parts supplier, inspected and retrieved a 3rd engine, installed said engine, and took it on multiple test drives (100 miles: local roads & freeway) before releasing the car back to me. I appreciate how detailed, hardworking, and honest these mechanics & technicians are. They took the time to inspect my car holistically and found the root of the overheating problem. If I went with the initial mechanic, I would have unnecessarily paid $200+ to get a perfectly good radiator hose replaced and still would have had engine overheating problems! Choosing to replace my car's original engine with a used, lower-mileage engine, I understood that it was a gamble to get a good, used engine that functions well without problems. I am so grateful for North Highlands' attention to detail and honest work ethic. The team inspected and tested the 3 engines out, reporting honestly when an engine didn't meet standards and did not charge me for the additional labor hours it took to take out and install the 2 faulty engines. My car has been running great since with no weird noises or suspicious smoke. Although my car was in the shop for over a month (due to setbacks in getting a functioning used-engine), the repair was top notch and very high quality! North Highlands officially documented my cars diagnosis with pictures/videos and written reports via their online portal. Additionally, Rodrigo personally called to keep me informed on every step of the repair. He patiently explained every step of the repair and gave me constant updates, never making me feel stupid or blindsided. I am so grateful to have gone with Norrh Highlands Tire Pros. I am extremely disappointed with their service, and I DO NOT RECOMMEND them to anyone. Save yourself the trouble and find another shop. I needed a simple tire rotation, so I checked with the manager to confirm if they could do it right away. He assured me they had the time. They also suggested replacing my two heavily worn front tires, which I agreed to. But what should have taken 30 minutes dragged on for over 2 hours! An hour in, they told me the car would be ready in 15 minutes. Another hour passed, and I had to push them to continue because my car was left on the lift without wheels, with nobody working on it. To make matters worse, when I finally got my car back, I noticed they hadn't put the valve stem caps back on my tires. By that point, I was in a rush and couldn't go back to address it. Unfortunately, I will not be bringing my car back here and I recommend you avoid it too. I brought my car for an oil change and was told I needed new brakes. I agreed to have them replaced and after waiting a few hours I received a call letting me know that a mistake had been made and that my hood was not latched and flew up while they were road testing the brakes causing decent damage. They agreed to take care of the damage which I appreciate. I was told that this should be quick and that the body shop they were sending it to should have it done by Friday (I dropped the car off on Tuesday). It ended up taking three weeks and I was given very few updates and they only came when I called. During this time I was told "we will reach out to the body shop and let you know" and I never heard back. I ended up requesting the number for the body shop and called and did not hear back. Both myself and The Tire Pros lost contact with the body shop. When I finally got in touch with the body shop they said they did not know why I was given such a quick turn around time because it was going to be at least another week (this was about a week and a half after the inital car drop off). This was never communicated to me from the Tire Pros shop and I only found out from the body shop. While they can't control the body shop timelines I do think they are responsible for who they trust to do work. I was also told they would give me a loaner car. The car I was given was in bad shape. The windshield was cracked, there was trash everywhere including an old McDonalds bag in the backseat and multiple other food wrappers, and bad staining throughout the car. Should you find yourself in my situation I would recommend requesting a rental car that they cover. They also told me my car was ready and when I went to pick it up it was in fact not done and needed to be held for 3 more days. Finally, when I went to pay I asked if they would be willing to give me a discount the man ringing me up guilt tripped me and told me what they had to pay for the damage and that his coworker would have to pay out of pocket for any discounts. All in all a very bad experience here. read more

Their prices are much better and way below the dealership and they are ASE Certified, so it's in line with my warranty. I really appreciate the pictures with the summary sent to me prior to repairs. Even more, I love how they give a prioritized list of what needs to be done, and what can wait. I have to be honest here, it's tough being a woman who knows nothing about mechanics. I called for an appointment EVEN after I read all the bad reviews... I was told over the phone my coupon is $13.50off any oil change. There's several coupons on the same ad saying $$$ off BUT my oil change coupon does not have the word OFF anywhere on the coupon. I attached the coupon ad so you will be able to see for yourself .I feel like this place of business will try to sneak and get more money from you anyway they can without you knowing. After the radiator Job my A/C went out four days later I took my vehicle back to the shop. This was expressed to management but, made it seem like it was my fault. After checking it out management said my transmission needs to be repaired, an hour or so later it failed While running errands. I wanted to give 2 stars, but I feel if I did I would not have been honest. For starters, my catalytic converter light came on for bank 1. I went it they replaced it. A month later I had my transmission fluid replaced. 2 months after they replaced Bank1(cost 2800) same light came on. I took my car back considering I had a warranty. They supposedly wanted to check EVERYTHING before honoring the warranty. The master tech. was out sick and no one could look at my car. I asked about driving with the same code on Rene said it would be okay to do so. I brought my car in several days later and left my car with them/master tech. THEY HONORED THE WARRANTY and replaced the part. I live minutes from the shop, I called to see if my car was ready a guy answered and said your car is out on a test drive right now you can come! Now I am looking at my car parked in the same spot (I parked backward, locked wheel). That was definitely a LIE, I SAW my car. At this point, I am peeved beyond life! I believe they did nothing but reset the engine light!! 3 days later engine light comes back on catalytic converter bank 2! I go back they say bank 2 will cost me 3889. Oh, and it was a discount of 4.89 on the work order. Long story short I went elsewhere Firestone to be exact. for a second opinion. He even let me see him do 1 of the catalytic test. My cat is fine, the issue was a cracked air intake hose, and he showed me the broken part that was very visible to the eye. I replaced that part for less than 200.00 and it has been 2 weeks and NO check engine light and my car runs better. I am grateful for Firestone and VERY disappointed with North Highlands Tire Pros. I have spent so much money on ALL my cars there. I thought that they were FAIR and HONEST but clearly not. I had a gut feeling they were getting now I really don't believe they even honored the warranty, I think they just reset the light especially considering the Man lied and my car never moved in my opinion. I went there to get some replacement tires , which they said they had and I waited over five hours before Omar came to me and said they didn't have the tires yet. I asked why didn't they just say that and he was very rude like it was my fault. And then the owner came (Malik) which was agreeing with Omar yelling and being rude to me when all I asked is why was I waiting five hours if you didn't have the tires. I went to North Highlands Tire Pros because my a.c. has been blowing warm air. I was charged $162.71 to have a recharge performed in my 2007 Nissan Sentra. After waiting for an hour and a half I was told that it didn't work because my car has other issues. The mechanic suggest that I pay $125 for a diagnosis. If this mechanic had any ethics he should have suggested a diagnosis prior to performing a service that "might" work before taking advantage of me and taking my money. I went to another shop which diagnosed my car for free and informed me that there was no way my car could hold a charge because my Compressor needs to be replaced. These guys are crooks! read more

These guys are a rip off!! Came for an alignment. they saud i needed the inner tie rod on my front left tire fixed but recommend both inner and outer since they thread together (made sense). Got quoted like 313 for the work (found a better spot that only charged me 180) but we couldnt afford that at the time so we still got the alignment and told him we'd have to wait on the other work. DIDNT TELL US UNTIL AFTER CHARGING US FOR THE ALIGNMENT THAT WE'D NEED AN ALIGNMENT AGAIN AFTER THE TIE RODS WERE FIXED. why?!??! why would u still charge us for unnecessary work?!?! said they throw in the alignment afterwards for free if we got it donr with them....uhh duh cuz you already charged me for the alignment!! needless to say we went back after getting the tie rods fixed elsewhere for cheaper and to see if we could get our alignment done free of charge since we were wrongfully charged before, and they still want to charge us $49 for an alignment saying last time wasn't an alignment at all but just an alignment check?!?!?! I went in for an inspection and oil change today and received an email stating something about a "status change." I called to ask questions, at which time I was put on the line with Jeff. When I told him I did not understand some stuff and had questions,he told me, "Everything was there in the email, just like it had been the last time, with videos," and, "If it says the 'windshield is streaky and the wipers need to be replaced,' it means the windshield is streaky and the wipers need to be replaced." Really? And it went on like that, just one snarky, disrespectful statement after another. I just told him that I would be right down to pick up my car. Bottom line is their work seems fine, but Jeff's less than stellar customer service skills will prevent me from ever going back. If you don't like attitude with your service, I would suggest using another garage. Just as an aside, I locked my glove compartment when I left the car, but it was unlocked when I picked it up. I had pulled out my wheel locks and car manual and had them sitting on the passenger seat, so I cannot think of any reason they needed to get in there. All that is in there is my registration. I was greeted promptly by Jeff upon entering their office. I liked that their work area had safety chains to ensure people don't walk in, it's one of the first things I noticed upon arriving. Their office was ample and very clean. Jeff was very professional and personable. He quickly identified what I needed, a tire change, wasted no time in trying to upsell me any services, and then answered a few questions I had, clearly, honestly, and again although offering the services I was looking for, did not upsell me, which I appreciated. The work took a while, I came in mid afternoon without an appointment, but I was able to wait comfortably in their facility. While waiting, I was able to observe Jeff, proactively working, greeting and assisting customers, providing again the same great level of service to everyone. I guess bribing customers with prices to write a good review works, because North Highlands Tire Pro's does not do what they say and do half a$$ work so beware consumers. I brought a brand new set of tires to them for mount and balancing because the young lady informed me that it would be $100 on the phone when I called. This was the cheapest quote over the phone I had gotten (I guess it's true you get what you pay for). I showed up for my appointment they got it on the lift and wheels pulled the young lady came out and informs me that she miss quoted me because she didn't know the tires were 35/12.50R20 and it will be $40 dollars more (I should of walked right then) so reluctantly I agreed. They proceeded to install the tires and I was observing them from the lobby. I never seen them balance the tires. When they said they were done I asked her if they balanced the tires because I never seen them do it. She said they do all the balancing at the other end of the shop and it was done. I took off and right way I know they were not balanced because the truck was shaking so bad that you couldn't see out the mirrors. I took it back first thing the next morning and told them it wasn't right so she said they would re-balance them right way. So the wife and I walked down the street and had breakfast when we came back the truck was still being worked on and we waited for over 1 hour before it was done. We took off and it was better but still had a bad vibration at 65 MPH. The truck isn't used a lot so I didn't want to spend another 1/2 day sitting in their lobby so I just lived with it for a few weeks. I just took the truck to American Tires and had them check it out. they wanted know who installed the tires because they didn't even balance the rear tires because there were ZERO weights and one of the fronts was over weighted by 2 oz. They balanced them all and the truck runs done the road as smooth as can be now. So if you made it through the story you will understand that North Highlands Tire Pro's are dishonest and are fair from being TIRE PRO'S. They will convince you to come in then hike the price up and don't even do the work. Places like this that give repair shops a bad name. read more

I took my truck to the shop to have the timing chain fixed Malik said it would cost $2200 for the kit new water pump serpentine belt oil change and flush the radiator. Two days later I get a call with bad news that there are metal shavings all throughout the engine and he recommends a new engine!! I asked him how much he said $4800 for everything labor parts new motor. I applied for their credit with my wife and we were approved for $6000 for the repairs. Since my wife and I were moving out of state and I had $1200 extra credit I called Malik two days later to ask him about putting tires on her car. Since the engine was 4800 I was considering putting new tires on the car before we left the state. He said it would cost $650. Not only were they four days late getting the truck ready but when I went to pick it up they tried to charge me $6600 instead of the $4800!! My wife and I were furious never once did he call and tell me it was going to be $6600 or I would have never approved it!! They knew I had $6000 credit and they knew I Was moving out of state and they tried to scam me out of an extra $1800!! I got them to drop the price to $6000 because I had no other choice and they knew that!! This business is a scam and if you were smart you would never go there!! I was hoping they were honest but they were anything but honest!! I will be turning them into the Better Business Bureau!!
