I first visited in Orlando a few months prior so when I saw it in Austin during an overnight layover I immediately Ubered on over!! I couldn't wait to get the White Truffle Bread - it just melts in your mouth and I'm soooo happy I didn't have to share it with my friends. Haha and YES I ate the whole thing too. Judge your mama! I had a salmon salad to balance out the ending of this amazing meal. Which was just ok. The butter cake was so delicious! The bar is where I sat and is extra long, so sitting on the end of the bar if it's busy and having only two bartenders, make sure you go to relax and enjoy. Big Bro and I dropped of his son at the nearby airport and were told to pick up dinner before heading home. (For the record, home is about 1.5 hours away.) But I get the desire: there are far more (not to mention better) choices in Austin in comparison to where they're at. I've suggested going to this place so many times (since the few visits I made at their El Segundo location was always top notch!) And that's how we ended up here. No street parking available, so we parked at the structure right behind the building. We arrived at the closer end of their lunch hours but close enough for dinner serving. I noticed a reserved signs on a few tables, so it was understood that there was a few minutes wait. But eh, we figured we can get some dranks at the bar while waiting. We ended up not getting anything, though, since the bartender was far too busy to serve us. (What I mean by that is that he was busy cleaning glasses, talking to colleagues, nothing drink-making related.) Kinda disappointing, but eh. We were whisked away to our table not too long after. I got the chance to look around and I really like the industrial look and open space. Very similar style to the one at El Segundo, so I guess they do have standards. We were handed menus and asked about drinks. I went for an Adelbert brew and Big Bro got a non-alcoholic drink (since he is driving.) Server came back and told me they had no Adelberts. So I went for the Julietta. There are two things I never let pass when I do make a stop: white truffle garlic bread AND squid ink mafaldine - both I suggested Big Bro gets. We also went for the beef carpaccio and the pizza pig! WHITE TRUFFLE GARLIC BREAD: Just like the one in ES, it is a hit. This is a must have for anyone who doesn't have any allergies to anything. I'm not even going to bother describing it, but I will suggest to get it! Big Bro was so impressed with them, he put in 2 orders to take home. BEEF CARPACCIO: A newbie for Big Bro, so he was a little taken aback by its initial appearance, but once he got a bite, he couldn't get enough. Neither could I. The pine nuts were a good add to the texture and the aroma of the arugula upped the flavor even more. This plate was returned to the kitchen empty. SQUID INK MAFALDINE: Slightly more spicy this version is, but just as delicious. Pasta was cooked perfect al dente, shrimp and calamari cooked nicely and just enough sauce without feeling like the pasta got drenched with it. This, we enjoyed a lot. THE PIG: I had a taste for pizza but this is the only one I thought Big Bro would like simply because of the amount of meat there was on it. Prepped and made to order what appeared like cooked in a brick-oven (did they even have one of these?) No matter, it was delicious. Crust was thin enough for a crisp but could have used a bit more of it somewhere in the middle. Still, it was delicious. We did enjoy our visit, even to the last bite. We had a bit of pizza and pasta left, so we had that packed up along with the take out orders (we added bolognese and something else Big Bro ordered to go along with that amazing garlic bread!) FOOD: 5. SERVICE: 3.5. For a couple of reasons. 1) The whole bar snafu at the beginning. 2) Our server said she would make sure that our takeout food will be done and brought to our table by the time we're done with dinner. We had already paid for everything before she left to avoid any snags. The thing is, she had left before getting us our takeout bags, and since we'd already settled the bill, no one bothered to follow through with us. Therefore, there was needless waiting that could have been avoided. Big Bro and I had to get someone's attention for it and yeah - our bag of goodies had been JUST sitting there all along. (I know, because it was in my line of sight for some time.) VALUE: 4. Better than average. The garlic bread alone is way worth it. PARKING: Street is available if you're lucky. Otherwise, there's parking behind the building for a fee. OVERALL: 4.25. I had a taste of the bolognese and I believe that makes 3 of now my favorite things in this eatery. Overpriced mediocrity. Husband was so skeptical when I suggested we eat here... But I was craving Italian, and it was the only place close to home that was open after 10pm. Shoulda listened. Pros: -Open later -Nice ambiance on the patio -Proximity to hotels, if you're staying downtown (there were a lot of tourists dining here) -Our server was nice Cons: -Virtually no nearby street parking, adding a $12 garage fee to an already overpriced meal -Most of staff aloof and distracted (including multiple hosts/greeters who let us stand around several minutes while literally avoiding our eye contact). -Food totally meh. Anolini (stuffed pasta) was served almost cold, and its "burrata" filling was mealy. It did not taste like fresh pasta, more like frozen. "Grilled" asparagus had no char (except on the lemon), more like steamed asparagus, yellowing, and completely unseasoned other than Parmesan and a lemon wedge. I was seated quickly on a Saturday around 2pm. Tables are close together bench along the wall was comfortable. It took a while, 7-10 mins for someone to come over the first time (had to call them over when they walked by for another table). The starter, fired eggplant left a bit lacking due to the seeds being pretty prominent and oddly flavored. The sauce was good though. The Salmon pasta was also hit-and-miss. The salmon was delicious - nicely flavored and cooked beautifully (juicy inside and nicely seared outside). The vegetables on top were good, yet wilted; but the pasta was much too salty. The tiramisu was interesting! It seemed to be mostly whipped filling with very few ladyfingers visible. It had so much chocolate powder on the top that it could make you cough if you inhale while taking a bite. The chocolate balls on top made for an interesting/confusing mix of texture for this dish. A solid go-to. We love the big patio and being able to get a drink while we wait for a table if we have to, from cocktails and reasonable wine prices for me to beer on tap for my husband. Something for everyone on the menu from basic pizza to fancier short rib pasta to veggie noodle options (which are done very well and never over cooked). I love that they split the dishes in the kitchen if you inform them you are sharing when ordering. The Tuscan kale salad is one of my favorite dishes and the pizza is not really fancy but well done, chewy crust, fresh toppings and flavorful sauce. I wouldn't order to go from here. I don't know whether they ignore the orders until the last minute or don't have a good system to handle them but we have had multiple instances of waiting forever for food, it not being ready or them not telling us it's ready then picking up partial orders or gross room temperature pizza. Had a lunch date with a friend and got seated eight away. It was not busy at all and it was around 3:30pm. Our server came by right away and took our drink orders. As my main entree I got the chicken pesto and I know I've had it before and today was just a slight bit too salty but good overall. I haven't been here since I lived in Irvine, but we were craving some Italian food after all the barbeque, so thought North Italia would be a safe choice. This location is very spacious compared to the Irvine location. I love the atmosphere and ambiance of the restaurant. It gives off a classy casual vibe. We came here for a late lunch around 3pm on Friday and there was no wait. Margherita pizza - You can never go wrong with a margherita. We did feel like the proportion of the crust to the actual pizza slice was really off. The crust was super thick while the pizza was so thin and flimsy. Pretty hard to eat. The bottom of the pizza was also burnt. The pizza topping itself was really tasty though. Spicy rigatoni vodka - The star of the show every single time! The dish is bursting with flavor and every bite is amazing. I wouldn't miss out on this. I've tried their other pasta dishes but this is always my go-to. It also does have a little spice kick. Service was miserable. Never coming back. We were ignored by our waitress and had to find and ask the manager if we could finally be served. We went to the front to grab our own menu's. I recently dined at this location and it was so unbelievably hot inside due to a broken AC that we were told has been down for months without being fixed (?!) Our table got into an argument over where we could try to go instead last minute because we were so miserable- it impacted us in such a negative way. We love their food and so this week, I called to check and see if the issue had been fixed yet so that we could dine there again. When I asked about the AC, the host LIED to me and told me that it was fixed. I asked him when it was fixed because it seemed like a fib the way that he responded. He quickly told me that it was fixed just last week. I called again today to double check with a different hostess, because my intuition told me otherwise and I was right- this time, I was told the the truth that it is still not fixed but they have several fans throughout the restaurant to make up for it (which I've already experienced and it's still too hot). I am so very disappointed in this, I will not trust this restaurant or be going back for some time now. Beware!! You will be lied to in hopes of gaining your patronage here!!! read more

I probably ate here more than any other restaurant in Austin (except perhaps with the exception of the Torchy's across the street). The vibe was always really nice, and it was a good spot on 2nd street for some solid people watching in a nice, clean area. Most importantly, the food was consistently excellent. I was probably most impressed with their spicy meatball pizza. Surprisingly, this turned out to be one of my favorite pizzas ever and probably my favorite pizza in Austin with Via 313 (while totally different in style) being a close second. But everything else here was consistently good as well - my wife would regularly get the bolognese which was always flavorful and fresh. Their Italian farm salad was always a really great appetizer and really hearty for a salad. Their sangria was pretty respectable as well, and one of the better ones we had in Austin. read more

This is a review I truly regret having to write. The food the last several times at this location has been less than satisfactory. It took multiple failures for me to give them this rating. I will address the most current failure that occurred this past Friday evening. First off, we had made this reservation a couple of months out because we were going to a show afterwards. Via our OpenTable reservation, we had requested a booth. When we got there, we were escorted to a tiny two top table squished between two 4 top tables on the back wall. There was barely any room to squeeze in and out without bumping the neighboring table, and I am a small person. I let the hostess know that we had requested a booth with our reservation, which was made a couple of months ago, and she just said "sorry". Okay, whatever. We started with an order of meatballs. They literally came out cold, and without any marinara. We have been ordering these for years and I've never seen them sauceless like this. We did not mention the temperature of the meatballs to the server, but asked if we could please have a side of the marinara, since there was virtually no marinara as listed on the menu and experienced for many years. He said sure, but there would be an up charge. What??! At this point we did not even mention the temperature of the meatballs, hoping that the hot marinara would help, but no, it was barely lukewarm. Next came the entrées. The salmon, which had been ordered, medium, was well done, burned on both sides, and dry as a bone. The broccolini that came with it was in huge stalks instead of single or double thin spears, and was too tough to cut, even with a knife. The other entrée was also a burned, overdone, dry, tough piece of short rib. This is another entrée that we have been ordering for years. A favorite. This was not an isolated incident. I waited at least three or four visits with bad experiences to adjust my star rating from 5 to 2. We are very sad to say that we will not be eating at this North location anymore. read more

The tables weren't together, set, or prepared until about 15 minutes after our 730 arrival. The service continued to be super slow considering it seemed like a typical Tuesday night. We did have a special menu, and most of the food was good including all the appetizers and desserts. However the entree rigatoni noodles were less than Al dente like they were barely cooked. My friends surprised me with dinner here for my birthday and luckily they made reservations, because this place was hoppin' and is definitely a favorite in the area for people. Caleb was our waiter and he took his time to make sure that we understood the menu and he gave a lot of great recommendations. He was definitely a great waiter and I highly recommend him if you have the option to request a specific one. The restaurant was quite big, and could get a little noisy because of its size and the amount of people in there. However it was cozy, dimly lit, and the perfect spot for celebrating an occasion, happy hour, or a date night. For dinner I had the chicken parmesan which came with a size of rigatoni in an alfredo sauce. Chicken parmesan is my go-to when visiting a new Italian restaurant, as I feel like it's a good measuring tool of the quality of their food. The chicken parmesan and alfredo pasta here was outstanding! So full of flavor, pasta was al dente, the marinara sauce on the chicken and the alfredo sauce on the pasta were perfect, everything about it was great! Unfortunately, because I'm finally getting to this review 9 months later, and took terrible notes in my draft, I can't remember what we had as appetizers or dessert, but I do remember loving every single piece of food I ate this night and I honestly don't think you can go wrong with anything that you order. read more

Well it's Marathon weekend here in Austin so as expected North Italia was busy. We had a reservation for 2 at 4:30pm and arrived at 4:15pm. We walked in and there was already a crowd at the door. I checked in with one of the four very confused looking hostesses. She was very nice, took my name and then like the others got lost in her tablet. We waited for about 15 min as more people poured through the door. There were many open tables around us - most likely for reservations. The hostesses kept coming and going looking intently at their tablets without actually seating anyone. After about 20 minutes of waiting I stopped another hostess and said I already checked in for my reservation. She looked at her tablet as said oh whoops I have a table for for you ‍. Once at our table we waited another 15 minutes before anyone even looked our way. Finally a server came and asked if we had been helped. She replied no. He then said well you're not in my section but I can help you. Well thank you. with that said he was very nice and provided good service. So I am glad he ended up with us. The food was very good. We enjoyed the burrata and bread service to start. We followed with the delicious seasonal vegetable salad. It was perfectly seasoned and dressed. We then had the spaghetti and meatballs and the strozzapreti (I subbed tagliatelle) and both were very good. The food and ambience were great. Though the random mural kept me dizzy, still it was cool. Fr I was hungover AF. Call it South mouth. I was veg that day. The ladies room stalls were privately enclosed so I shut my private door and thanked the gods that we were here of all days and places. And thank you to our sweetest servers too!
