All I can say is wow to the Chili Pepper Chicken! After talking to our hotel clerk and took several recommendations from him, this was the place I was looking forward to the most. The restaurant is in the gas station on the corner. There is no seating so plan on eating in your car or taking it to a park or the beach. The service was just ok. Nothing special. But that chicken tho!!! Holy chick! Breaded and perfectly fried tossed in a sweet and spicy sauce. This was served with a Hawaiian style Mac salad and a generous portion of steamed Calrose rice yummmmm! I bought a bottle of locally made chili pepper water (Hawaiian style hot sauce) to douse my lunch. While it was my first time trying this dish, my boyfriend and his family were/are all locals and they all raved this was the best they've had. His grandma complimented it twice during the meal and couldn't get over how it stays so crispy! After my weeklong trip, this is the dish I crave the most (would've been poke but I managed to fit poke in 4 times haha), but on my next trip back, I'll have to come back again. We also got the chicken katsu, which was not great - the breading was more similar to chicken nugget breading instead of traditional katsu breading, so we'd pass on that next time. One thing about princeville is that there aren't enough restaurants! There are way too many tourists for the hand full of food options that are available. We decided to order the loco moco from the general store because of the food reviews, and we are really happy with it. The food here is really good. We had the ono fish and chips and it was honestly one of the best fish and chips I've ever had anywhere. The pieces of fish were pretty big. The batter was not too thick, it had a nice light crunch. The fries were really good as well. They honestly have some excellent pizzas as well. We had a few pizzas and they were all really good. The stand out for us was the pesto pizza. The only thing was they got our order wrong and it ended up taking almost half an hour to get all of our food. One of our regular spots and my family has eaten more food from here than any other restaurant on Kauai. This General Store along the Kuhio Highway is the most affordable and convenient option we've found in the Princeville area. With a nice selection of burgers, pizza, sandwiches, salads, and breakfast items, it offers something to satisfy our wide variety of eaters. They also sell beer, wine, snacks, and surprisingly cute souvenirs, so we usually end up grabbing more than just a meal. There is limited seating outside facing the gas station and Princeville shopping center, so we've always taken our food to go. Not the healthiest food on the island, but with so few options in the immediate area, it is great to have a place where you can get a meal for under $10. We've also gotten food for our teenagers here and then gone on date night at a nearby restaurant. Enjoy the "Real Brick Oven" pizza, especially the Prosciutto Fig and Paniolo Chicken (yes, it has pineapple). We typically order in advance and then pick up our food. I'm always surprised at the early closing time, which is around 7:30p, so not the place to satisfy late night cravings. read more

The girl at the counter is beyond rude. Asked her if the burger came with any sides and she said, No, but you grab a bag of chips and pay for it. Then immediately yelled, Next! To call the next person in line. Mind you the bag of chips is 5 feet away. When she rang me up she asked if I'd be paying cash or card I said card. She gave my total and then I placed the cash on the counter. This is when it got bazaar. She began to open and close her hand. Did it 5-6 times until I caught her drift. I picked up the cash and placed it in her hand as she, I guess, wanted me to. I will NEVER patronize this place again and I've been coming here way longer than she's been alive. What a disgrace to Kauai and the Princeville community. She's about 5' 3" and boy does she need to change careers. Maybe put her in the back. Pizza was ok. The place is very dirty, dusty, etc. There wasn't a place/wall/counter in that building that was clean. Even the employees restocking or working had filthy grimy clothes. The only good thing was their customer service. Seems as if that business has been abandoned in the sense of not putting any $ back in the store to make it appealing. Very disappointed.
