From celebrating milestone events, to just enjoying a nice family meal, while I was enjoying a great meal I was making core memories as well. The owners and staff have become like family. They always treat us well, and they know how to make you feel like you are enjoying a meal cooked by loved ones. The space is tight so if you have a bigger party be sure to call ahead to get a reservation. Today I tried the Egg Foo Young patties. They're a bit tough. I prefer the Egg Foo Young omelette. My wife enjoyed the Mongolian Beef. It was cool how it comes with crispy wonton strips instead of a bunch of onions. The Fried Rice is the nice dark charred variety that I love. It reminds me of a great place in Chicago I used to go to. My wife agrees that we should have tried their Orange Chicken because everything started tasting the same after a while. I came to Fu Wing Low during my lunch break after noticing they offer lunch specials for under $13. I ordered the Mongolian beef after asking for recommendations. The lunch set comes with an egg roll, a choice of soup (corn or hot and sour), a pot of hot tea, and your choice of steamed white rice or fried rice. I chose the fried rice. Although I asked for the corn soup, I was given the hot and sour soup instead, which ended up being extremely sour. The interior feels very old-school, classic Chinese restaurant, and the lunch crowd consisted mostly of regulars in their 50s and older. Just went to the iconic Paul's Kitchen in Lost Angeles... but you know what? It made me appreciate this place even more... Paul's "pan fried" noodles were not pan fried but limp... and the food here is A+... we had to come back here to eat what our mom's used to make the Chicken Chow Mein growing up... except I think we still like Fu Wing Low's better... very few places are Japanese American style Chinese food anymore... the uncle is still the chef... if you ever get a glimpse of him taking a break give him some love... he's the best! read more

I ordered lunch takeout from here again. It was ready in less than 10 mins. This time I wanted to try their shrimp with lobster sauce, which also includes snow peas and water chestnuts. Both vegetables were overcooked to my liking since I prefer more crunch, but overall tasted fine. The amount of shrimp was plentiful. To add more flavor, I added soy sauce and chili oil. Their steam rice was meh, but luckily I had some at home. Since the portions here are generous, I was able to make two meals from this one dish. read more

This place is very non-descript and unassuming little restaurant in a small unassuming strip mall. It basically looks like any other small Chinese restaurant. But we were surprised by the quality of the food! We've been looking for the best replacement for Sam Woo that closed a couple of years ago in Irvine and we haven't found anything. This place gets closer than most! The fish with black bean sauce was our favorite at Sam Woo and it's almost as good here. The fish was perfectly cooked -- very tender -- and the sauce was just right, flavorful but not overpowering. The same for the Mongolian beef. A lot of places overcook the beef or put on so much sauce you can't taste anything else. This was perfectly cooked -- very tender. The only thing you could criticize was that there weren't a lot of green onions. Same again for the beef chow fun and shrimp with lobster sauce. Ask very well cooked and very flavorful. The only criticism we have is that the place could definitely use an upgrade in look and feel. It's definitely been a while since they last decorated. My 1st X here & it was on a hot day in July but this restaurant has no working a.c. Just a fan blowing hot air at you. I ordered the Kung Pao Shrimp which tasted kind of bland tasting. I've had much better at Vietnamese restaurants in Westminster area (Little Saigon). I ordered the dinner which came with spring roll & 2 won tons & a sweet n sour sauce. That was good except it was over fried, too crispy/crunchy & not soft at all. The dinner included soup which I chose egg flower. Once again it was mediocre compared to what I've had before at authentic Vietnamese restaurants. To give some credit, the service was prompt but the waitress was too dramatic. There was plenty of medium size shrimp but the Kung pao sauce was lacking in flavor & spice & not exciting at all to my taste buds. They have almond duck!!! The real kind. Pressed duck with a crispy bite and gravy on top. So good! I remember it a little differently from when I was a kid but I just appreciate its existence. Very classic Chinese restaurant with big circular tables in the middle. Definitely come here for great classic dishes. FOOD: Not only do they have Almond Duck but they have the classic hom yu (salted pork and fish meatball) and of course things like chicken chow mein, kung pao, Mongolian beef, fried wontons, etc. but almond duck! I've given this restaurant the benefit of the doubt because the food is good but the experience is always awful so we won't be going back. It's like the place is too small to adequately do everything it takes to provide a nice dining experience for customers. There's a little lady with black hair who zips around really fast and talks really loud as she answers the phone at the table (at the back on the left side of the restaurant). Customers are sitting nearby and get to enjoy hearing her take orders. She busses tables and literally LOUDLY tosses the dishes in a bin next to her desk which is right next to her office which should be relocated somewhere else. We laugh as we wonder why the dishes are thrown and not gently placed as to not bother the customers. I noticed that customers actually looked around as if to wonder if we witnessed the constant chaos as we were trying to have a conversation with each other. They were trying to do the same. It's just a crazy place run as UN-professional as any restaurant I've ever been in. Every table is just as bad as the next since they are all IN HER OFFICE. We won't be back but always laugh at how the bad experience makes us laugh and wonder if anybody else has noticed it like us. They need to expand into a bigger place or partition off a (soundproofed) space for her to do her business without disturbing customers. read more

Wow wow , I've been looking for a sweet quiet ambiance of a place to eat Chinese food like how Gongs was. I miss Gongs in HB but this place has exceded their food and quality, great costumer service. They serve egg rolls, pork with pineapple sweet and sour sauce, chicken chow mein , fried rice , sweet and sour pork, walnut shrimp , chicken with mushroom n veggies and a fortune cookie and of course delish tea. Love this place! It's a small, family-run restaurant with great customer service. They even give you a whole pot of hot tea for free -- and it's delicious. Our water was refilled every few minutes without us having to ask. Their lunch specials run from Tuesday through Saturday, and the prices are very reasonable. The lemon chicken was large pieces of chicken breast with a light breading and a very zesty lemon sauce. Not spicy like orange chicken usually is- just FYI. Mu shu pork was delicious and the service was friendly. Great prices, generous portions (3 meals for 2 people from our mu shu, garlic green beans, and chow mein), and Mu shu pork is kinda hard to find these days! Based on prices, I expected a basic hole in the wall joint where you order at the counter, but this was a really cute little restaurant with wait staff to take your order at the table and even a fish tank to keep me occupied while I waited for my to go order. Super inviting! My only negative comment is that the delicious garlic green beans were cooked *perfectly* which meant that once I reheated them, they were overcooked. I've been here three times. The first time it was pretty good but the last two times just average. I ordered the beef chop suey from the lunch menu and asked for fried rice. I got it to go. When I got home I realized they gave me white rice, not a big deal, except that the rice was incredibly dry and hard like it been sitting out all day. The beef chop suey was OK but again not great. Food is good but the staff talk to each other from one side of the restaurant to the other. It's does't matter that I don't understand what they're saying but they talk so loud. Came here for a birthday lunch with a friend, who likes ( and returns for) their Singapore noodles. I tried my favorite Asian dish, Shrimp Foo Young. I had been ordering it - for 50 years!! - from Al Palace in Costa Mesa, but they just retired, so I needed to find another restaurant that could make it as well as Al Palace did. Happy to say Fu Wing Low delivered!! I liked it so much, I returned the next week with another friend who wanted to take me out for my birthday, and I ordered the same thing, and it was as delicious as the first time. This is a small family owned restaurant. The service is great and food is made fresh, so please be prepared to wait a little, especially since they get many phone orders. I have the house special pan fried noodles with no veggies. Noodles were cooked great, just enough sauce, and there were several shrimp with the beef and chicken. Hubby got the Mopa Tofu and it was yummy. He asked for less salt and it was perfect. The tofu was plentiful and the sauce flavorful. They give you a large pot of hot tea, instead of those tiny pots. The restaurant is clean and the staff remember you, but they do get busy. If coming with a party of more than 4, call ahead and book as there are only 3 LARGE party tables. Long overdue for a review! This restaurant is super close to where I live and as a local I consider it as one of the more authentic chinese food spots to satisfy your cravings! My sister and I once came to try their salted pork chop and beef chow fun & now we crave it all the time! Portion size is great for sharing family style! Fu wing low has lots of favorite Chinese style dishes, which range from roasted duck and orange chicken to walnut shrimp, and fried rice. They have a variety of options to try and I especially like how authentic they try to be when it comes to Asian food. I let her know we were ready, she brushed me off and went to another table that was just sat. I also have to mention that she also took 2 phone orders as we sat and waited. In addition, it was impossible to ignore the clutter in the corner. Cardboard boxes and food containers were stacked up, creating an atmosphere that felt more like a storage room than a dining space. The messiness in the corner raised concerns about cleanliness and food safety. Instead of feeling welcoming, the space felt chaotic, unsanitary and NOT welcoming. Needless to say, we got up and left, not wanting to take a chance. I do not recommend this place. It's the last standing traditional, "old school" Chinese restaurant. The food is so good. The Mongolian beef is the best I've had. My favorite is the honey walnut chicken. It's big clean pieces of chicken breast with a light extremely favorable sauce. Just the right amount of walnuts. The Hong Kong style noodles are amazing. They do favor right and I LOVE that they offer chicken breast. It's the only Chinese restaurant in So Cal that has that back in the day authentic taste and dishes. They have all the staples, including some items that many places don't offer, provide good quality food, and you don't leave feeling remorseful about how much you spent. We don't come here for the service, we come here for the food and experience with family and friends.
