Really 3.5 but since no half stars had to decide between 3 or 4 and felt was closer to four than three Came here to watch fifa and was only place we could sit down. They were able to seat 5 of us with view of the tv. There is a parking garage but be aware if you go past the time they will boot your vehicle. Ask me how I know. The food is served family style. We got the chicken fried rice, garlic chicken, chicken dumplings fried as well as beef dumplings fried. Also got chicken buns steamed and chicken stir fried noodles. Ag all the items the steamed buns were by far the best. Maybe best I've had. Would go back for those alone. All other items were good but not amazing like the buns with the exception of the noodles. I didn't care for them at all. All in all we were all satisfied with our meal and agreed the steamed buns were amazing. read more

We came here after trying to find a place to eat that televised the FIFA game. We were seated promptly as it was not crowded when we arrived. As soon as we sat down, fresh water was served without even asking! This is always a plus! Staff were super friendly. We ordered our drinks and get them promptly. When we initially got there they had the game going but couldn't hear it because of loud music playing, which I will add any other day it's great. However a short time later they turned the music off so people could hear the game going. To me this shows that they catered to the clients at the time. We ordered our food which is served family style. We ordered the chicken buns which were the tables favorite. Fried rice was okay. We also ordered the garlic chicken story frilly that we all loved. Our least favorite plate was the thick beef noodles. When we got there it was not very busy, but by half time it was. I have to say through out our entire visit, all staff were attentive and we were never left waiting. Will for sure be back. Oof not sure how this place has such high reviews. Not sure if people have never had actually Chinese food or what, but if you ever had this place is more so a bad American Chinese food restaurant. I got the "fat noodles", first red flag was the name of the dish. The noodles tasted like they were sautéed in the chicken ramen noodle powered packet. My partner and I really like Northern China Eatery in Doraville, so we were excited to learn that a new location had opened along the Beltline, much closer to where we live. The restaurant has a beautiful modern Oriental-inspired design that feels more contemporary than a typical casual Chinese restaurant. The space was clean and nicely decorated. Service was a bit slow during our visit, but the staff was friendly. The menu prices were comparable to those at the Doraville location. We ordered the Shredded Tofu Salad ($12), Sichuan Spicy Fish ($22), and Mapo Tofu ($15). The Shredded Tofu Salad was served cold and had a pleasant texture, but I found it a bit underwhelming. The dish was bland and could have benefited from more chili oil and seasoning. The Sichuan Spicy Fish was our favorite. The fish was tender and cooked well, and the broth had numbing spice and fragrant flavors. The Mapo Tofu was also delicious. The silky tofu and the savory sauce paired perfectly with rice. read more

It was Saturday afternoon and I decided I wanted some dim sum (dumplings). I remembered that we were close to a restaurant that we had been to once before...Northern China Eatery. It is located on the bottom of a building on Buford Highway. The parking is a little weird as you have to go through the parking lot, then down a hill. There appears to only be a few spots in front of the restaurant, but there is additional parking behind the building as well. The restaurant staff is friendly and we were greeted and sat quickly. The restaurant smelled delicious. We had been here before and I knew exactly what I wanted. The waitress must have picked up on this because she asked if we were ready then right after handing us menus...and frankly...we were. We ordered vegetable dumplings, chicken soup dumplings, and shumai. We also ordered hot and sour soup, green beans, and stir fried pork. All of the dumplings were fresh and delicious! The wonton was deliciously chewy and the fillings were so flavorful! It's exactly what I wanted. The stir fried pork was flavored of black bean and the green chili peppers were deceptive. Some were super mild...some...not so mild. The hot and sour soup was a perfect starter and the serving is enough for 4 single cups of soup. The green beans were delicious...seasoned with chili oil, pickled green plum and onions. Everything was fantastic and I would order it all again! read more

Great outdoor patio on the Beltline!! I thought the food was good portions for the price. I was expecting a small egg drop soup, and they came out with a massive punch bowl! We split a couple things and probably could have even done less! I can't wait to come back and try more next time. One off situation, not to defer you away: Unfortunately one of our items was given to the wrong table, and our server didn't really seem to check on us or our food. So we were there a lot longer than expected and the server never even said anything about the food taking so long, and the table next to us got a free meal and left. At a restaurant next door this happens every time we go, our meal goes to the wrong table, so I'm hopeful this newer restaurant can get that right because it will help them differentiate themselves for sure. read more

Ordering was easy and food was brought out by appetizer, dumpling, main. For the food: Stir fried Green beans: phenomenal! Super great portion size to split amongst 3 people. Packed with flavor. Xialongbao (pork soup dumplings): total star of the night!! We rated these higher than DTF!!! Cute location and halal Chinese food! Cool to have Northern China eatery join the beltline food scene. The spot is cozy, the tables are not super spread out. There's a set of booths and bar stools as well. The server that greeted us upfront said all chicken, beef, and lamb was halal. Glad to have halal options! We had the sweet and sour soup, the chicken XLB (day special!), the beef and carrot dumplings, and the chicken stir fry noodles. My favorite were the chicken XLB and the soup. The ginger flavor in the XLB was solid! Service can be a little spotty when it's crowded, but the staff are really friendly. Definitely recommend giving it a try read more

I have been to their Buford Highway location and absolutely loved the food there so I was really excited to try out this place. The location on the beltline is perfect and easy to get to if you live in the city. However, parking in that area is always difficult so give yourself time to find street parking or park in one of the nearby paid garages. Note: use Google Maps to find the place if you are unfamiliar, as Apple Maps takes you to an incorrect location up the hill. I arrived around 7pm on a Friday and only waited about 10-15 minutes for a table for 2, as they do not take reservations. They recently got their liquor license so they don't have a drink menu yet, but they did have specialty cocktails in addition to beer and wine and a full bar. I got the lychee mojito and my friend got the lychee martini. Both were delicious and not overly sweet. It was a really great start to the meal. For dinner, we split the pork dumplings and the shrimp noodles. The dumplings were extremely tasty, the meat was juicy and flavorful, and they were the perfect ratio of meat to dumpling. I was a bit disappointed by the noodles, though. They had a nice taste but they were overly salty and barely came with any shrimp. I think there were maybe 6 medium to large sized shrimp in the entire huge plate which was disappointing. I was also a bit disappointed by the service. Our waiter/waitress was very kind and helpful but they rarely checked on our table, even when the place got less busy. I felt like I was constantly hunting them down for more water and to get to-go containers and the check. Once we were done, we weren't shown any bill. We were just told what our half would be (as we were splitting the bill) and then after, there was no option to get a receipt. I don't love not being able to see my bill or get the receipt, although I do believe everything was accurate. What a dismal experience. I decided to walk to a neighboring restaurant on a quiet Monday evening when I soon realized the restaurant I wanted to visit was closed on Monday. I took a look around and saw Northern China Eatery. I quietly sat at the bar & a few minutes later a server/bartender approached me with the "you good?". Actually, I need a menu... While her & colleagues complained behind the bar she enters my order. (Incorrectly) No silverware, no napkin..... The order arrived incorrect & she determined that she had accidentally entered the wrong item - no worries THEN the egg drop family sized soup comes out . LOL Never once did she mention, "hey, this is a large portion of soup- intended to share with a whole table" and perhaps it's my fault for not asking, but zero attention to detail. If you take anything away from this review - just know the soup is plentiful & goes cold fast. As you could imagine on a Friday night located on the beltline, this place was hustling and bustling. It's in such a great location, and believe it or not, there's parking behind at Studioplex. Yes, prices are definitely much higher than the OG location on Buford Hwy, but I think it's still worth the visit. They don't take reservations, so we walked in around 7 pm for dinner. We were able to snag a table indoors, but I swear, the people coming in were nonstop at that point. Our server was friendly, though not super attentive. She dropped off water at our table but we were not yet ready to order - she didn't come back until 10-15 mins after to take our order. After ordering, the kitchen must have been backed up since the people who ordered after us got their food first. We ordered the crab roe with cabbage (the server who dropped this dish off at our table must have been new because he asked us what it was), pork with shrimp and chive dumplings and sweet and sour fish. The cabbage was a good start to our meal and was served with a bowl of rice. It was fairly light though the crab roe sauce was missing flavor. The pork and shrimp dumplings are a must! Love that there are big pieces of shrimp and the wrapper was nice and thick. My favorite was the sweet and sour fish. It was nice chunky pieces of battered fish, though the sauce was more sweet than sour. This also came with a bowl of rice. Reason why this place only gets 4 stars was mainly due to waiting for a long time for our food to arrive, plus their server asking us what dish we ordered. read more

We recently went to the new location on the beltline for lunch. I gave them 3.5 stars due to the following: 1. Location: super convenient if you're in the area. They have outdoor sitting and bar seating. 2. Prices are a bit higher than the BuHi location but that's expected due to location. 3. Food was a hit or miss for me. The soup dumplings are amazing as always, but the corn dish we got was unimpressive and not worth the calories or $$. I did enjoy my crab roe cabbage dish. Lots of roe on top! 4. We came here on a whim after walking out on a reservation at Eclipse Di Luna, and honestly it ended up being the best decision of the night. We were seated right away and immediately felt welcomed. Our server was incredibly sweet and very knowledgeable about the menu. She took the time to explain different dishes and gave thoughtful recommendations, which made ordering so much easier. The atmosphere was relaxed, comfortable, and unpretentious the kind of place where you can actually sit, talk, and enjoy your meal without feeling rushed or overwhelmed by noise. I love their Buford Highway location so when I heard about the new one on the Beltline, I was excited. The quality and care extends to this one as well. From the imagery on the walls to the outside inside bar, the Eatery did not disappoint for looks that align with the Beltline aesthetic. As for the service, 10/10. By reducing the menu and focusing on fan favorites our server was able to provide solids recommendations such as the scallion pancake, of course the hand made dumplings and although not on thru menu as of our meal, their bar service. Since they just got their liquor license, we celebrated with them with a passion fruit martini which my partner said was amazing! I stuck to the traditional hot tea. I've been to the 1st location on Buford Highway, but I have to say that this is my preferred location! The 1st location is small, so there's not a ton of seating (one of the reasons for the long waits); however, this location is much more spacious with both indoor and outdoor seating since it's right on the Beltline. Also, it's very aesthetically pleasing with the beautiful murals and lighting. Bonus points for it being much closer to me (although my wallet isn't a big fan of that)! One minor downside is that they don't gave their liquor license (although one of their bartenders told me they will finally get it on November 18th at 5pm), but let's be honest--you come here for the delicious food! I've tried several dishes here, and all of them have been amazing; however, the absolute star has got to be the dumplings! I get at least one of them (shu mai is my favorite) every time I eat here. Also, you can't go wrong with any dish with lamb because the flavors pack a punch. The only dish that was slightly underwhelming was the Chinese hamburger. Don't get me wrong, it was still really good, but it simply doesn't hold a candle to everything else I've had here. This place is a MUST EAT! read more

The salt and pepper pork is delicioussss. It's thinly sliced and fried to perfection so it's still moist and not dried out. Pair that with their hot and sour soup yummmm. And if you happen to get dumplings, let them soak in the soup before eating. So freaking good. Servers are friendly. But the big problem for me wasn't waiting for the food (which it did take about 45minutes to just get an appetizer but which the owner or someone in charge told us that it was cause they had a broken thing in the kitchen which I super get and that didn't bother me at all) it was waiting for the drinks my boyfriend and I got canned sodas we asked for just a Diet Coke and a sprite or something like that and it took 30+ minutes to just get a canned sodas which was terrible. Party's around us got their drinks before we did and all of them got there after us and got mixed drinks when all we wanted was a soda it kinda td me off especially since when we mentioned it the waitress gave us an attitude. Not to mention sitting outside which was fine and fun since we got to see all the fun dogs walking on the belt line BUT their was no lights so it was really hard to see what we were eating. Which was funny cause after we finished paying was when someone finally offered us a ring light that goes on the table which felt really silly. There is so much to love about this restaurant. Service is great, the restaurant itself is beautiful and kept clean, and there are indoor and outdoor dining options. As it should be, the food is the star of the show. Every dish we tried was cooked to perfection and absolutely delicious! We tried pork and garlic dumplings steamed, shrimp fried rice, and spicy chicken over cabbage. I would love to eat the same dishes again and would like to try more foods. Parking is either limited street parking or paid parking in a parking garage nearby. With being located in the Beltlibe, it's perfect for taking an after dinner stroll. read more

I find it difficult to recommend this restaurant. Chaotic and mismanagement causing long wait times with average food. They forgot us initially. After waiting for a table outside for over 30 minutes, we noticed empty tables and newcomers getting seated. They sat us immediately when I asked for an updated wait time. They forgot us again. We waited for another 45mins before we saw any food at our table. Again, tables that came after us were served before us. The food was only average. The soup dumplings and steamed dumplings were both fine, but the stir fried noodles was subpar. The noodles were all chopped and broken with hardly any continuous noodles in the mix while the onions and veggies were undercooked. The food was underwhelming given the wait. The cost was on the higher end of average when accounting for the quality. The steam dumplings were priced decently and the noodles would have been fine had it been good. Our server was very kind. That may have been the highlight of our experience. I will likely wait a few months before considering giving it another try. Very busy Saturday night (had reservation) so our service got off to a slow start. After getting up and asking for table setups so we could eat our appetizer, the waitress caught on and was very attentive thereafter. Food was good. My big problem was when the waitress produced the iPad to pay (no detailed bill provided prior). She shoved it in my husband's face with the tip menu showing. He hit 20% and was ready to sign when I asked the waitress "was a tip already on the bill"? To which she said "yes". So she was going to allow my husband to double tip and not say a thing - a $40 overcharge. No disclosure - we had to ask. Very deliberate. We also had to ask for a detailed bill when she only produced a credit card receipt. This tells me they are scammy so watch out. We had a party of 6, mom dad and our 4 kids. honestly i'm quite new to atlanta, but i am very thankful to come across Northern China Eatery. the interior walking in is very well thought out, with plenty of space and detail oriented decor. the service was just as impressive, the servers being kind and present, they all really knew their menus and i felt i wanted to try all of it by the time they were done talking about it. i ended up choosing the twice cooked pork and man it was amazing. i'll definitely be back, and im thankful this place exists so close to where i live. lastly, do be thoughtful and understanding that this is a brand new location and more so, a passion project by those who genuinely love what they do. every establishment will have normal kinks to work out as it's up and running, but it's not thoughtful to leave a negative review behind based on things they can't control. overall this was an amazing experience and i'll be back! read more

This was an excellent dining experience that I had here. When I first learned that there was going to be a new location on the east side Beltline, I was so excited. The food is excellent. The dumplings taste exactly like the original location. The fried pork buns had a nice crunch and rich, juicy filling. It was crafted with care. The cumin lamb was excellent. It had the numbing spices that reminded me of Chinese style skewers. You could tell that they took time in trying to make the atmosphere very nice. It was such an upscale feeling. I was able to sit at the bar and even the service was attentive. Food came out very quickly and staff were quick to greet and ask us about our experience. This restaurant hits a home run in a competitive market on the Atlanta Beltline and give you an experience that you would be able to get unless you drove to Buford highway. 5/5 read more

Yes service can be a little wonky and it takes awhile for food to cone out but part of that reason is everything is made to order. Usually it's the Pork Buns or Soup Dumplings but recently branched out to other things like wood ear salad, a spicy seafood soup, a hot pot and others... everything has been excellent, some of the family style chinese foods i've eaten. read more

Never again. While I understand that new restaurants have growing pains, I don't think after 8 weeks things should still be this chaotic and underwhelming. When we arrived, I told the hostess that we had a reservation for 2 at 7pm and was told that the website shouldn't have let me make a reservation in the first place as they don't actually take them. We were told it would be 15-20 min to wait which wasn't too bad so said that was fine. They actually had a table outside cleaned off and we were sat within 5 minutes. The weather was perfect. Beltline was popping and the vibes were vibing! Until it came time to order food. We ordered the Crab Rangoons and Soup Dumplings (XLB) to start. We are both Rangoon aficionados and these were completely subpar. There are plenty of Chinese take out restaurants that make way better ones (also cheaper). The XLB were fine. Salty and flavorful. Not the best and probably not the worst. During this time, our server disappeared for a while so we couldn't order entrees. She finally made her way back to us and we ordered the Beef Fried Rice and Mandarin Roasted Pork Belly with Homemade Brown Sauce. Tables that were sat after us started receiving some of their dishes and our server was again nowhere to be found. Someone finally brought our pork dish to us and it was nothing like what we expected. Roasted pork belly it wasn't. Braised seems more of an appropriate description. Needed salt and lacked flavor. Here's the best part. We waited on our long lost server and fried rice for about 15-20 min after the pork dish arrived and I heard the table behind us complaining about waiting for their last dish and wanting to just cancel it and get the check. I engaged in conversation as we were both going through the same issue, so my boyfriend went inside to get things resolved. After another few minutes our server reappeared with the fried rice in a to go container, so we paid and got the heck outta there. I heard several employees tell customers that things were slow because they were so busy. It's Friday. The front and back of house staff should be ready for the rush. Let me also add that they don't have their liquor license, so you will have to order alcohol from somewhere else if you're wanting to drink. Anyway, if you're still reading this it isn't worth the visit. I don't foresee this location lasting more than a year unless they make some major changes. read more
