We have old crank style windows. Three of the crank mechanisms stopped working, so we were unable to open or close them. Some repair businesses have told us that we would have to get the entire windows replaced. Not Steve! Steve was able to obtain the parts needed to repair just the crank mechanism. Impolite. Disrespectful. Unpleasant. Downright nasty. There aren't enough words to describe what an awful person Steve, the owner of this company, is. My next-door neighbor was having screen work done and I noticed a truck parked in front of my house with a flat tabletop workbench the size of two doors near the curb at the end of my walkway. We get deliveries many times a day and they come up that walkway, so I went out to ask the guy if he knew how long he was going to be there. As it turned out he was about to pack up and leave, but rather than just telling me that he says, "Am I blocking your driveway?" "No," I said, "I was just asking if you knew how long you might be here." This time he responds with a diatribe about easements and how he was allowed to be within however many feet of the curb he was and how I don't even own the edge of my own walkway. I told him I know all about easements and didn't need a lesson, I was just asking when he might be leaving. I ended up calling the business number on his truck to complain and the guy who answered it laughed about the whole thing in an effort to diffuse the situation, like he's used to smoothing customers' feathers on a daily basis. I laughed too because it did seem absurd, and the guy apologized and said that Steve is old and cranky and that's just the way it is, plus he owns the company so there's not much that can be done. We also happen to need screens, and when I first saw the truck I figured I'd ask the neighbors how it went and maybe use this guy. Now, no way. I'll still talk to the neighbors, but not for a recommendation. We'll probably go with Screenmobile of San Fernando Valley. Ask yourself: Is this the kind of guy you want working on your house? Personally, I don't care if he's the best there is if he's going to be a schmuck and overcharge me for the privilege. We used Northridge screen service to rescreen a screen sliding door for a rental unit. When my wife called to get a quote, Steve was very professional and assured her he would call once on the job site before performing any of the work to confirm the scope. He did not do so and charged an additional $50 for two rollers and $55 to install them when that was never part of the scope and we would have never agreed to pay the $100+ price for a door that was rolling perfectly fine (we know - we just moved out after living there for years). This is already in addition to a $68 service call fee. She called him the unauthorized work and he was rude and said that was part of routine maintenance and didn't need permission to do so. We feel like he took advantage of an opportunity to jack the price of the invoice up by over 30% when my wife made clear she had to be home to take care of our newborn. read more

Amazing service! I found out about Northridge Screen Service when they were doing some work at my neighbor's house since they bring the shop to you. (BTW- they also have a storefront where you can bring screens in need of repair.) I inquired about their rates and services offered, and they handed me a business card for full details. When I called, everything was clearly explained, including their rates. They also explained very clearly that there would be a charge for the visit if no work was done. If work was done, the service charge would be deducted from the cost of the repairs. They asked for me to give the measurements of the screens that needed repair, as well as the screens that needed to be completely rebuilt. No problem. They gave me a ballpark estimate and I scheduled an appointment. From the time I called until the time they completely finished all of the repairs, it was a total of around three hours max. I don't know if that is a normal turnaround, or if they just happened to have an opening when I called. The guys were friendly and professional. I looked at a couple of the previous reviews when they were at my house working. I didn't observe an ounce of grumpiness or rudeness. I did appreciate the dry humor of one of the guys. Dry humor can easily be misinterpreted as rudeness. I personally thought the guys were totally cool. They fixed several screens (re-screened) and rebuilt a few as well. I paid a very reasonable amount. There was even one screen that I was unsure about and they recommended NOT repairing it. Instead, they just straightened out the bent frame for free. Hard time deciding whether I was going to give these guys are three or four stars. In the end if I look at the overall quality of work, quality of components, and the feeling I was left with, I think of three it's fair. I found their name on the next door app. It seemed like a number of people but that they did a really good job. I think the quality of the materials they use his average. Some of the components look like they came out of the 1970s. I still have a little bit of wobble in the screen door that they put in. Steve said he thought that was normal. I appreciate that they came right on time, especially for a 7 a.m. appointment, which I had forgot about and they woke me up. I also appreciate they set up their truck on the street and put traffic cones around it so the neighbors wouldn't hit it. They were in and out in just under an hour and a half. My 4-foot by 8-foot screen door cost me about $417. I probably could have spent a little more time shopping for other service providers but time was tight. I now see that other people on Yelp have also complained about the fact that they didn't clean up. I did say something to Steve specifically about some metal debris that had been left behind. He made light of it and did not come back to clean it up. I told him I thought he should have a dustbuster on his truck. That way he could pick up small bits of debris. In the end, I got my dustbuster and vacuumed it up in a few minutes. Steve seems very set in his ways and may be looking at retirement in a few years. I called them out to repair the screen for a sliding window, which they quoted for $76.00 for a 5' x 8' screen. The came on time and stuck by their quoted price, but they said that my tracks had to be changed and they had to do some extra work, the guy said that it would cost another $50 for a total of $126.00. The work was satisfactory, however when it came time to pay the bill, the price had gone to $181.00. He said that there was labor and all this extra stuff plus tax, but how do you jump that high. Also, they charge a $5.00 fee for using credit card, which is total against the policy of Visa/Amex etc. You are not allowed to charge any fee, and $5.00 is ridiculous. I told him that it would take me 5 minutes to go to my ATM, but the person said that he would "rather not wait." The quality was good, but I will be calling my credit card company to dispute the $5.00 fee and the $60.00+ that he charged over his quote. I should have refused to pay the $5.00, because I hate companies that charge you an exorbitant fee. I am positive that the bank isn't going to charge him a $5.00 fee, so basically he is pocketing the money. read more

The work they did was ok, but looking at the price we paid was too high and the way the two conducted their business was way below professional. 1. What I just found out is that Steve was extremely rude to my wife when she hired him on the phone. If we would not have required the repairs to be done urgently we would never have asked him to do the job. 2. The price he originally quoted was false, as he quoted the full repair of a screen door to be between $75 and $90 dollars. However, our rather smaller screen doors cost almost $100 dollars. But that was not all, the rail cost extra, rollers cost extra, which meant the overall cost per screen door was nearly $130. 3. When a service company provides a service, they usually clean up after them. What I noticed too late, Steve and his colleague left all the the debris from their work laying around. 4. After the horrible experience I had with another screen repair company (waited six hours for the guy and then, when he finally showed up and I refused to let him take my screen door, he cursed me out on my doorstep!), I was leery of calling another place. I needn't have worried. Steven, the man who replaces torn screens for this company (and may be the owner...?) was absolutely on time to the minute at 7am. He was courteous, professional and repaired my screen in under 30 minutes! He does this out of his truck, so no need for him to take your screen to the shop and return it another day. He quoted me $84.50 plus tax and that's what I paid (I did give him a tip, although I'm not sure you are to do that for this kind of service - but he was just so nice, so I told him to keep the change). my screen door is HUGE, so what I was quoted sounded very reasonable to me (and actually was pretty much what the other company had quoted). I'm very pleased. The screen looks great and I'm sure my landlord will like it (I repaired it since I tore a hole in it!) Personally, I hope to never need another screen replaced, but if I do, I'll be calling this company again. I hired them for 1 screen for our client (I am in constriction business for the last 7 years) and from the beginning the guy was talking down to me on the phone, then he took our card to charge "in case no one is at the property". And then he allegedly came at appointed time and no on was home. People were at the property ALL DAY AND ALL MORNING, and he guy DIDNT EVEN CALL FROM JOB SITE to say no one is home or ask when someone will be there. She explained the prices to me as I told her what I needed to be done. We set up the appointment and she informed me that Steve would give me a call that afternoon to confirm. Steve called and was very polite. We did have some confusion as to what I needed but after my going back and forth, I got a quote over the phone. He also called the night before to let me know the time he would come out.
