I stopped in here for dinner on 4-21-2018 with a good friend. I had iced tea, chicken and waffles (I'm trying this dish out to see which place has the best) and half a chef salad with ranch dressing. Our server was "Sarah M." This was my first time here. Before getting inside, we had quite a time finding parking. Needless to say, we did find parking, although it was in the back in the grass. Now comes the good stuff. My friend ordered "cheese fries" to start. Those cheese fries were plentiful. Good flavor. Hot. Fresh ingredients. Now for the meal. My chicken and waffles were okay. You could definitely tell it was chicken. It just had that "fresh off the yard" look and taste. The waffles were more than enough for one person. The syrup was nice and warm too. The half chef salad was great. Plenty of ingredients. Fresh. The best part...the iced tea. I had a whole pitcher to my self....because I was thirsty. TL;DR - Food good. Wait staff bad. I'd really like to say that this place is FANTASTIC but unfortunately, the service is really hit or miss...and most days..it's a miss. I've frequented Northside after I discovered their great breakfasts and huge pancakes! The food is pretty good. It's a cozy atmosphere and the quality seems to be comparable to the price. The worst part is the wait staff. You have to wait to be seated and many times you walk in, there is not a single server in the dining room, so you are left waiting for a few minutes or so. There have been several times that I have waited for an unreasonable amount of time for a server to greet us at our table and bring drinks or even take our order. I've been brought the wrong item once before when I specifically asked for a different item. The staff doesn't really seem to be engaged until they hand you the check while shooting a sincere smile at you, followed by an enthusiastic, "Have a great day!" aka. "Leave a great tip". There have been quite a few positive experiences that I have had, such as prompt and friendly service by people who actually care and work. Wow. Everything was awesome. Sausage gravy was some of the best I have had with lots of sausage in the gravy. Daughter had pancakes and literally did not have to use any syrup because the batter tasted like cake. Awesome! I've driven by this place so often but its outdated sign never drew me in, not was I ever particularly hungry when passing it before. Today was different however, we were starving! After looking up places near by to eat breakfast, this seemed to be the closest. Though the main rating was 3 stars, I was pleasantly surprised when we walked in. The inside was very clean and had a homey feeling. It was packed but we were seated quickly and in general the service was great and quick! On to the food, it was delicious!! For your typical breakfast food. However clearly made there and not defrosted from a package. The portions were pretty big. I got the Western omelet which came with potatoes and toast. That omelet easily could have been shared between a few people. The only downfall to the place is that it isn't very cheap for a little place to get breakfast. A cup of coffee was $2 and a glass of sweet tea was $2.50. Overall after a 20% tip, out breakfast for two was $40. The trick to it though, ordering a couple side items as your meal. HORRENDOUS SERVICE. We came here for breakfast. Seated immediately. Sat for 10 minutes without being acknowledged by any of the 5 servers. Mind you, there were 3 other tables with diners in the entire place. Another family entered the restaurant a few minutes behind, was seated, waited on, and served their drinks and yet still no one acknowledged us. More servers than tables should mean quicker service, one would think. And no, I did not bring it to anyone's attention. I shouldn't have had to. I give this place 2 stars because we have eaten here before with better service and the food is pretty good! That's why we came back! So sad. I'd hate to see how their diners are treated when they're actually busy. This has been crossed off of our list of places to hit for b-fast. Off to Cracker Barrell... UPDATE! We have been back at least twice in the past 3 months. We were greeted and shown to our table promptly by the host/hostess. Our favorite server is back, along with some new additions. I have driven by this place again and again and have always wondered about it but never stopped. Last weekend I stopped. Breakfast for one. I ordered the home made chip beef gravy over toast and a side of scrambled eggs. Chip beef gravy was good. I liked it. Wish I had asked for a biscuit substitute for toast, but it was good. Eggs were good. Coffee could have tasted more like coffee instead hot water but I was more interested in my chip beef so I was overall happy. The server staff was so nice. My server was I think Kyle or Kurt..(sorry) 4 different people came over to say hello or to ask if I needed anything. I was advised of the nightly events/menu deals and asked to come back. I felt very comfortable. It was funny though...they have a flat screen TV on the wall. They put me right in front of it. I can't stand when restaurants show the news while I'm eating so I liked that they had on animal planet but wait...it was a dog having an operation! LOLOL. I didn't say a word about it. Just giggled to myself.. until one of the servers noticed it and basically was like "Yikes!" and channel was quickly turned. Great place. Good food. I'll stop in again. read more

I tried their lemon chicken and rice soup: perfection. Their Luzianne sweet iced tea doesn't have an acidic bite. Nice host and servers here every time. Soulvaki, mousakka, breakfast til 2 pm, burgers, appetizers, sandwiches and desserts round out their menu. Clean interiors with booths and tables. Their baked french toast was huge at 6x6x3 . Also, it was equally creamy, sweet and decadent. Their front windows had wreaths and inside the back room they have a fully decorated tree around Christmas time. read more

My friend ordered the meat lovers omelette and truly...what an awesome beast of a meal. I was indecisive (everything looked good) so the "pick any four" menu option was perfect. Best biscuits I think I've ever had with great gravy to match. Delish scrambled eggs (better than iHop). The drinks...phenomenal. They have a menu for mimosas and bloody marys...I had no idea there were so many cool ways to prepare those iconic drinks! Our server was very knowledgable and when I told her it was my first time visiting the place she gave me a brief snippet about the history and gave me a flyer/calendar with all of the awesome upcoming events. This place is a pleasure to rate. Tuesday is half priced burgers. They don't take anything Away just because their half priced. Our burgers were done just as we ask. Cole slaw and French fries were also top of the line. We were seated very quickly and had our order taken quickly even through they were busy. Service is above average and it's very clean place with lots of parking. We will be going back again soon. Must try Now I know why there's always a lot of cars there. read more

I don't know why this place has such a low rating. Northiside's become my go-to place for dinner after hiking in the Thornton Gap area of Shenandoah National Park. Its a little ways out from SNP, but if your headed back to DC or Baltimore, its right on the way home. Better than trying to find a seat at the snooty establishments in the Sperryville area, that's for sure! Hey, you try going to the Inn at Little Washington after hiking Old Rag, see if they'll give you a seat :) I've taken fairly large groups of sweaty, tired hikers there, they seat us with no issue, no complaints. Split the checks without any problems, service is just what I would expect at a family restaurant. Food is good, cheap, and most importantly for a post-hike meal, portions are large. I got a double cheeseburger last time I was there, and I swear, this never happens to me, I couldn't finish it. My only wish, is that they were open later. Finished a 20 mile hike at 8:30pm last weekend (yes, in the dark), arrived just as they were closing. :( Wound up at some other establishment which shall remain nameless, at far less and spent far more. read more

I'm a little surprised by some of these reviews. The place is not phenomenal, but I really enjoy going here. I have been here a handful of times. I believe the first time I had a veggie panini that I really enjoyed. Many other times I have ordered a turkey reuben, which is a favorite of mine, and I thought it was pretty decent. I don't think the side dishes, specifically the mashed potatoes have ever impressed me too much, I will admit. As far as breakfast, I think their breakfast burritos are very delicious, as well! In fact, I would probably order that every time I went here if they served it all day! Regarding service, I feel as though the wait staff has always been incredibly friendly and accomodating. I think my only complaint is one day we visited with two young children and we were seated in the bar area, where I had never been before. I was a little put off simply because there were some slightly rowdy (I mean like cursing a little, but not crazy rowdy) gentlemen at the bar, which wouldn't bother me at all had I not had my small children there. Otherwise, the back area was kind of nice and quiet, with its own restroom and changing table that I desperately wish I had known existed during a previous visit (HA!). read more

Great diner for this area. The food is always fresh and delicious. They make awesome pumpkin pancakes in the fall with fresh pumpkin. Breakfast is served until 3 on Saturday and all day Sunday. There is also a cool patio area and a bar that is past the main dining room. Almost (or just as) important as the food is the staff. They are amazing. They keep it real and communicate with you so you never feel forgotten when they are extremely busy. 2. The food. Breakfast until 2pm. It took five minutes to figure out which of the 6 open tables to seat our party of three. Waitress was nice. Mozzarella sticks were good. Hamburger from hell came without the fixings. Waitress caught it and brought it. Bloody Mary was okay. Son thought it was weird his hot dog bun was toasted and felt hard "like a rock" in his words. I decided to splurge on the $16 greek gyro platter. Terrible idea. The plate was a small, narrow rectangle platter. Small greek salad. Gyro was gray with dried out burned edges. Everybody knows that a mom & pop restaurant is WAY better than any chain franchise, right? I mean, you have REAL people making REAL food because they LOVE what they do, right? Yelp says this is a Greek diner. It might have been at one point, but now it's just vile. After morning picking apples in Stribling Orchard, I was ready for some lunch. Yelp says "Greek diner" and like an idiot, I believe Yelp. Nice looking rustic exterior, the sort one expects from a rural diner that's been expanded over the years. Inside, no diner, but a bar, some wood paneling, and a bunch of tall stools that exist for the sole purpose of making people uncomfortable so they'll leave. There's also a separate diner area we'll just refer to as "Hell." Hell is where, in spite of the fact that it's 50 degrees and you tell the staff that it's 50 degrees, they turn off the A/C only to turn it back on again. Nice enough server, though. I can't really blame her for the plates of inedible slop described as "souvlaki." When I get souvlaki, I get chunks of grilled pork, not shredded strips of grey mystery meat in French dressing. I said "French dressing." On a Greek dish. Of mystery meat. Anyhoo, I ask the waitress about the fact that my grilled pork chunks are shredded mystery meat in what tastes like candied teriyaki sauce and could they have possibly sent me the wrong dish? No, she's afraid, that's the chef's "special marinade." I should have smiled, choked the stuff down, and left but instead, like an idiot, I decide to send the plate back and get the gyros. This is where it started going downhill. At one time, "gyros" meant "lamb meat heated on a rotisserie, shaved off, and grilled, served with pita, lettuce, tomato, cucumber, feta, and tzaziki sauce." At Northside 29, "gyros" means "strips of Sysco Grey Bologna Product heated on a greasy flattop, served with salt, deepfried pita chips, salt, and salt, with a side of salt for dipping." All the while, since the place is empty, the staff kid is wiping the tables down with a spray bottle of Pine Sol which, thanks to the blasting air conditioner, is getting all over the food. This probably improved the flavor. The kids order chicken tenders and french fries and they have no problem eating them, but then they have no problem eating boogers so what do they know. I'm sure their breakfasts are alright. Could they screw up fried eggs? Maybe. I'll never know. All I know is that I won't come within 50 miles of this place and if you want to be served terrible "Greek" food in a refrigerator, you can't do much worse than Northside 29. read more

We waited at least 10 minutes to give our drink order. When our server finally filled our drink order she disappeared before we could even put in our food order. I patronize Northside 29 two or three times every month, and I have never experienced anything other than good service and tasty food. Breakfast being served until 2PM is huge to me, and yesterday we had a Western Omelette, pancakes, home fries, English Muffins, all kinds of good things, between noon and 1PM, and everything was fine. Empty glasses were promptly refilled, empty plates were promptly cleared away. I am dismayed by some of these negative reviews, and wonder if these people would be unhappy no matter where they went and no matter what they ordered? read more

We live in Snow Hill thought we would stop by and try this place out. I went this for lunch on 6/10/2015 after using the restroom I advised the staff there was human feces all over the mens bathroom stall. IN the time we were there not one employee wen it to check it out. Waited for 20 minutes for the worst Gyro in humanity after two bites I paid and left. I advised the manager on the way out and she stated we have never had a complaint and I said I am sure you haven't and she sarcastically yells by as I walked away. First time I've eaten at this establishment - I had heard they remodled and reopened and was curious. I ordered the meatloaf from the 'comfort food' part of the menu, with mashed potatoes and steamed veggies as sides, and have to say it was terrific all around. I'm a huge meatloaf fan - when done right - and Northside's version was unique and quite tasty, with a sizeable portion. The bread that came with the meal was excellent - no little thing. Light and flaky. Service was very friendly and very prompt ... wait staff was young and eager, and if a little too 'eager', very forgiveable, as I'd rather have someone check on me one times too many, than rarely ever.
