Great little cafe, it was busy when we visited but they communicated well and got us a table very quick. There are plenty of seating options to include a bar and outdoor area. The breakfast menu is nice as they have many options. Everything came out quick and tasted great. The prices are very reasonable. My second time going. For a storefront cafe, it has charm and familiarity. Staff are friendly and the wide variety of food is delicious. Old Salem Cafe has become a breakfast staple for our family! They have a wonderful small town feel/atmosphere, excellent food, great prices, and the staff are the amazing! Lindy is always happy and attentive (although all the staff rock) and she always takes care of our toddler, making her laugh and going above and beyond for her to enjoy her breakfast. We have tried other diners/cafés in the area, but Old Salem Cafe is the best! Friendly service (especially for 7am!) and tasty breakfast with large portions. The biscuits and gravy were peppery (which is how I like them, but beware if you don't love spice) and the omelette was nice and fluffy. They had grilled tomatoes which was unusual and a nice surprise! The only bad thing was the coffee. Really didn't like the coffee: it was weak and tasted cheap. So glad I happened upon this place as a pit stop on a road trip to Shenandoah. Cheery service, beyond tasty food (ESPECIALLY for the price), and a small-town, rugged cozy feel and aesthetic. I suggest the liver and onions for a full, satisfying meal, but my partner got the Rueben sammich which was MOUTHWATERING, with no shortage of cheese melting out the sides. Only comment is that they seem to have missed the two calendar turns since 2020, as they still have their "TRUMP 2020" signs up. If that kind of thing perturbs you, I'd recommend skipping this place, but I didn't mind, just thought it was humorous. read more

This is a fun little place that we found on a whim. The onion rings were out of this world. I also had a patty tuna melt the kids have cheeseburgers and pork chop . Everybody was more than happy with their meal with fresh bath was friendly I wish I had the time to stay stick around all day and have a few drinks some of the locals look like a lot of fun. read more

Stopped in here for breakfast on a Tuesday morning on my way out to visit Shenandoah National Park to see the leaves turning. Ordered the sausage gravy and biscuits, plus corned beef hash and two eggs over easy and coffee. The sausage gravy needed to be hotter temperature-wise, it was luke warm. The corned beef hash was canned hash. The best part of the meal was the eggs - ordered over easy, were cooked perfectly. And the coffee was decent. While paying my bill, I shared with the woman ringing me out they need to do something about the temp of the sausage gravy. She said she would pass it on to the kitchen. Service was good. read more

Dropped in for breakfast. There were folks sitting outside the Cafe but nobody was smoking. I went in and sat at the "bar" area since I was just one person, and I had some blueberry pancakes, eggs, bacon, and tried some corned beef hash since it had been years since I last had any. The food was very good, even though I couldn't eat all of it. The service was excellent and friendly. This is a great place for a quick meal. Prices were reasonable as well. read more

While making our trek from NYC back to SC saw this place on list of food stops along the freeway. So glad we gave it a shot. I opted for the special burger cooked medium with jalapeños and pepper jack, lettuce and tomato. Tasted like a Whopper, but juicy, with some heat. Went with onion rings and washed it all down with a Coke. Burger was one of the best I can remember and rings were on point as well. Service was friendly and competent. On our way to NC from VA, stopped by for breakfast, food was delicious and served hot. Tried their scrapple-pretty good, had never had it before. We sat outside and they were very accommodating with our group of 6 plus a dog. We had omelets, french toast, over easy eggs with their house potatoes which are a must. We had mimosas, coffee and hot chocolate. Recommend giving this place a try. However, I was a little bummed out once the food was brought out, our server never came back to ask if we needed anything else, we had to ask twice for condiments we requested and ask for the bill. Good food. Quick service. We went here after a hike with 2 adults 8 kids. We ate outside. We sat close together but some at different tables which worked for us. We were looking for the Old Salem Cafe after coming off 66 West on route from Dulles to central Virginia. We turned into a near vacant shopping plaza and saw a bunch of closed or vacant businesses. We got back on the road and checked out every different direction and still couldn't find it. As we were giving up and heading back to the interstate I suddenly saw it at the end of another building in the Plaza. We went in and there were a few good old boys drinking coffee. The menu looked interesting and we both ordered the scrapple omelets. It came with potatoes or grits, and toast. It was a ton of food and everything was piping hot and delicious. The waitress was a doll and we discussed or difficulty finding the place and she said many people coming off the road tell her that. She has reported this to the owner but apparently they don't care about the business they may be missing. The cook also came and spoke with us and the locals said hello. Friendly atmosphere. Only three complaints, no gluten free toast available, when I asked for another side instead was not told that there would be a 50 cent up charge, and a couple of pesky flies. Love to support local Mom and Pop type places. Will be back if in the neighborhood. read more

I've been a fan of his since his days of owning the Rail Stop in the Plains down the road. Kevin always comes out for a chat and to make sure everything is good. One of the stranger places in the area, they do know how to pour a drink and have a decent breakfast. I say strange because it is a normal diner by day and somewhat of a terrible night club at night! Went last night for bingo Monday! My kids had a blast, nice friendly small-town feel and the food was excellent. I had a Reuben with a baked potato - the sandwich was amazing and the potato was perfect. We also ordered chili and a cheeseburger and everything was delicious.
