Joe and were called out to fix our 1980 condo fireplace. They were able to get it running and gave us good advice for the future. We had Northwest come out for a chimney inspection and to my surprise was informed that we shouldn't use our fireplace. My wife is very cautious and didn't want to use it anymore. We got a quote for 20 thousand dollars from them. We then called out the retired Berrien county fire chief to inspect our fireplace. Turns out our fireplace has no issues. Don't bother calling them unless you want to spend a couple thousand dollars on a new gas log insert. Called them out to get estimate on replaceing the gas valve. Then he said "you can't buy that valve anymore". I showed him that I can get the exact valve delivered tomorrow from Amazon. I looked up the part number from the original owners manuel. The then studdered and said the logs are not the correct gas logs for our fireplace. They worked fine for 15 years. Why would they windex the glass doors and tell me you need to buy new logs from us for $2000 or more. We paid them $349 to windex the doors on a gas fireplace that they say is not functional? I will order the gas valve and repair it myself. I should have ordered the $179 valve from Amazon and repaired it myself in the first place. He spent 45 minutes putting the logs back in three or four times trying to figure out how they were supposed to be positioned. Fire place still not working and I am out $349. read more

I originally contacted them to have my wood-burning fireplace cleaned and inspected. Upon inspection, the technician discovered that it was unsafe to use. He showed me the video of inside my chimney, and explained what needed to be done. They helped me explore my options, which led me to the decision to convert to a gas burning fireplace instead. During this process, the technicians were careful to lay down plastic as to not dirty the floors. They were extremely considerate and polite. They were happy to answer all of my questions and make sure I was satisfied with their work. I am very happy with the quality and service of this company, and I would hire them again. read more

Beware! These people are looking to make a lot of $$$ All I wanted was to have my chimney swept and after 2 hours of them in my house and outside on the chimney they wanted to sell me a whole new fireplace. They never even swept the chimney just wanted me to see videos that they took. I asked them to leave immediately. They even went as far to take a vital part of my top cap on the chimney so the cap wouldn't close properly. I spoke to the owner who told me they inspect first then make suggestions to repair, he wanted $425 to tell me my hearth is not to code, my home was built in 1954 and my hearth is 12 inches of raised cement. I just had the fireplace swept and outside and inside inspected for $325 from a sweep who has been business for over 30 years. Please look around for another company, not this one! read more

I'm looking for a set of no-vent gas logs with a remote starter and integrated thermostat in the remote. I went there last week because their business is in the area. There is a young lady named Emily working in the showroom. She doesn't know anything about gas logs. She has no sales skills and she doesn't know anything about the products she sells. I told her I needed a set of gas logs and I told her all the features I was looking for and the dimensions of the fireplace. I also told her I needed the company to do a complete installation. She quoted a rough estimate of $300 for a fireplace and chimney inspection (and the inspection had to be paid in cash), $450-$600 for the gas logs, and $300-$500 for labor. She said $150 of the inspection cost would be applied to the gas logs if I elected to purchase gas logs from their company. She didn't write anything down and I'd later understand why. The appointment was set for November 12. I'm an easy mark for sales people but I hate waiting to get things done. A week later (but two weeks prior to the scheduled appointment) I went back and told her I just needed the gas logs and I can install them myself. I told her I can skip the inspection because the fireplace is in good condition, the gas line is fully functional and doesn't leak, and the flume will be closed off anyway because I'm using vent free gas logs and it is already got insulation stuffed in it by the previous homeowner. She asked me if I'd looked at the brochure and I said no. I'm not a gas logs salesman. I don't know what size I need, but I know they need to be properly sized for air circulation so they can efficiently heat a room. I also told her the size of the den so she can match the BTU output to what is required. She said she would have to call some vendors to see what they had in stock. Then she consulted with a lady in the back office because Emily doesn't know what the hell she is doing. After Emily got all the vital information from someone else she came back to the showroom with a written invoice of $1800 for logs only and said I would have to pay in full up front and the hardware should be there in a week to ten days. I told her that was more for just materials than the price of an entire install a week earlier. She said it was because I wanted a remote starter and thermostat. Her verbal estimate a week earlier gave a price range of $450 to $600 for the gas logs, igniter, and burner. I've installed gas logs before and a remote starter and thermostat was a $100 price difference in 2007. There's no way this would justify a $1200 price increase at today's prices. This business is a scam. Emily gives a verbal quote so she can set an appointment for someone to do a BS inspection. Then once the customer has thrown that money away they feel like they're going to "lose" $150 if they don't buy gas logs from this company. These people are snakes. Don't let them in the door. There are some reputable businesses around here but Northwest Fireplace and Chimney isn't one of them. Porter County would be better off if this this nest of snakes went out of business and moved on to fresh territory. read more

Had an issue with a leak by the fireplace chimney in the ceiling, two technicians came out within one week, did a "hose test" to determine what areas of cracks in the mortar were leading to the leak, one was in the attic to assure the leak during the test did not reach the ceiling, they identified the cracks of concern, provided a quote at the completion of their assessment. It was all very thorough and professional. read more

I used them to redo a fireplace and the work was fine, but scheduling was a challenge. Then I asked them to come and remodel another fireplace and trying to get response was impossible. After several back and forth phone calls I was scheduled to meet with Octavio on a Sunday to discuss. On Saturday I was left a message that he could not make it but would call me to reschedule. That was weeks ago and I've heard nothing. Very unprofessional especially to a customer you had already done business with. read more

Octavio and his crew did an excellent and professional job of replacing my fireplace and chimney. I had installed a fireplace new in my family room over 40 years ago and as a novice, I could have done a better job but it held up over time until it started causing leaks in the roof and needed to be replaced. He removed the old unit and completely replaced chase and fireplace without making the same mistakes that I had made. I contacted this business for a quote & services and they eventually got the job done but it was wrought with headaches. They rescheduled several times and did so at the last minute, literally. They said they called and left messages but phone call logs, caller ID and voicemail showed they did not. They rescheduled and no-showed on me with dates and times that they said worked for their schedule. Their estimates were poorly written and the math didn't add up. They refused to give anything but a meager 5% discount as compensation for their unprofessionalism claiming that more would result in zero profit for them. Since a non-refundable deposit had already been paid and no one else was available to do the job at the time, I dealt with it. Luckily, their final estimate had more mathematical errors but they were in my favor so I received more of a discount than expected. Thus far, their work appears to be sound and I have warranties for everything, just in case. They stayed polite even when I was furious with them, one of the few smart customer services moves they made. I'm willing to give young, small businesses a chance but this one has a long way to go in earning back my business. read more
