Annoyingly pretentious name, but deeee lisssh! Although I was leery, I finally got the family out to try this breakfast place in quaint downtown Geneva. It was clean and the staff was super friendly. Cute decor and a good mixed crowd of families, young people, and old couples. The food was different and not your A-typical breakfast Mecca. Before breakfast, we had an appetizer (which we normally wouldn't do before breakfast, but just had to...)- fried polenta cakes w/ a goat cheese mix and honeyed pears. OMG, it was SO good!! My kids had the pancakes served with warm (yes, warm! has to be warm!) maple syrup. I had the regular eggs, bacon, potatoes & toast, while my man had "the migas de pan caliente de puerco" that he couldn't stop hemming and hawing over. The food surpassed our expectations. This place is also pretty great in my book because they have a liquor license ;) Therefore the menus provide mimosas and bloody marys for your liking. I had the coffee, which for $2.50 a cup I felt was a little high, but it was Intelligista... hmpft.. I recommend getting there before 10am because it got crowded pretty quickly. If everything on their menu was awesome, then I would rate them a 5 star. Atmosphere - Bustling Food - Super fresh ingredients. Service - Friendly. Everyone seems to work as a team so your needs are met by various people (which translates to speed) and not just your server. Things I've tried - Steak Sandwich - Awesome. One of the best I have had BUT I would advise you get the bacon chutney on the side. I do not like it on my sandwich. I do find the ginger pears a freshing side dish and would recommend it for any dish. Grilled Steak Salad - Awesome. Love the dressing. Shrimp & Advocado Salad - Ok. I thought it was kind of bland. I didn't think the dressing had enough zing to it. Honestly, Chilis (yes the chain restaurant) has a better shrimp salad. Trio - I was disappointed with how much breading is on each of the cakes. I love this place! Hands down best/freshest breakfast/brunch place I've had in the area. The first time I went here I ordered the two eggs poached (comes with choice of meat, potatoes, & toast). I substituted the toast for a pancake because I always need something sweet after my meal. Everything was nice and hot when it came out and these pancakes are officially my favorite around (the syrup is super tasty and comes out warmed also). Since trying Nosh, we haven't went back to our old breakfast places. As for a lunch item, I had the turkey club the last day and it was fire. The baguette that it is served on tasted like they just got it out of the oven to make my sandwich. Service has always been great. DELIGHTFUL! The best brunch I have had in recent memory. Come here early, y'all. My friend and I got here at 8:30am and had a choice of tables, but left at 10 and the parking lot was full of people standing and waiting. Yikes! But they have a HUGE parking lot and ample street parking, so that's a good thing. Anyway, the menu is very tiny and casually printed on a tri-fold piece of paper, and the interior is teeny (but very bright and visually appealing). We both ordered coffee and I am so mad at myself for not finding out what brand they brew because it was DELICIOUS. Strong, dark, amaze. I had I think 44 cups. Approx. The menu has so many unique and delicious sounding options, with an entire column devoted to mexican-inspired/flavors items (be still my heart). They also have lots of unique and wonderful sounding sweet items - banana foster pancakes and a french toast with a lemon creme anglaise caught my eye, but I finally settled on the crab cake benedict, and my friend got a Mexican Benedict with a jalapeño hollandaise - uhhhyum. Being completely unable to exercise self control, we also got a "tasting" of the chocolate french toast (for $5! So worth it! Taste the rainbow of delish pancake/french toasts for $5 each!). I seriously LOVED the presentation of our meals. The English muffins, crab cakes, and poached eggs were so perfectly round, with the hollandaise neatly adorning them. It was a very clean looking plate. Their breakfast potatoes were simply roasted, and there were even purple potatoes in my mix. I ate every bite! The chocolate french toast was delicious, but cloyingly heavy/sweet. A tasting would be the only way to go for me. Our server was bubbly, lovely, attentive, helpful, well-paced, and great. Where do I start...the lying To us on the wait with children. Watching people who clearly arrived after us and didn't call ahead. Watching"the friends of the staff" cut in front of the line and get a table. Not to mention close to 15 open seats I'm the main room not being used... not the side room which had 50 open seats..We actually watched a party show up after us..get a table eat and leave before we sat down. Despite being told many times every time I'd fly into town by various people that I was missing out on Nosh, I finally went with a bunch of people that have visited previously. This first visit was very disappointing to say the least. I ordered the crab cake benedict, and the crab cake was overseasoned and overfried, which overtook all the delicate flavors of the crab. Worse was the egg that came with the benedict, which was not poached but soft boiled (seriously? don't they teach you that in Cooking 101?). Mine wasn't the only problem poached egg either, 2 others received the same. I also tried out the french toast, and those were just standard albeit weirdly cut in strips like steak fries, but the taste nothing special. But then I started tasting the sauce that was on the french toast against the sauce on the crab benedict, and it ended up being the exact same bland sauce, some mystery yellow sauce that didn't seem to be hollandaise or creme anglais. I like mysteries, but what the?!?! Even the side of bacon was served cold, I could have eaten precooked microwave bacon that was crispier. I did enjoy the fresh squeezed orange juice, the side of honey pears that came with the benedict, but come on now. When the people taking me out start saying stuff like, "maybe the chef is having an off day..." or, "it really isn't like this usually...", that means many other people in the group are having the exact same thought, which was "I wish we could rewind and go somewhere that's actually good." Seriously, the only 2 great things about my meal was our fantastic waitress and the cool light fixture in the dining room (the great service was the only reason why I'm giving this place 2 stars). Yelp strikes again! My handy dandy Yelp app found this place when we were searching for a place to have breakfast on our way out to a hike yesterday. I loved it! Such great menu choices - I love a restaurant that tries to be a bit eclectic and unique. For example, their breakfast menu sported a Costa rican menu choice, chilaquiles, grilled polenta with honey and pears, and a mexican eggs benedict with a jalapeno hollandaise sauce! My grilled polenta was delish and the perfect size. My husband devoured his Mexican eggs benedict. Thumbs up from us on the food. They also have unique lunch items as well. Met my favorite cousins at Nosh the other day for breakfast. The place is a breeze to get into on a weekday and even at 8:30 a.m., they serve lunch options if you're not so much into the breakfast. Really cute place with ample parking - lot or street. Great service and, most importantly, yummy food. I highly recommend the poinsettia mimosa (champagne, cranberry juice and a splash of Grand Mariner.) The Salmon Benedict was out of this world - perfect blend of flavors and just the right size. So, we were looking for a place that cater to our puppies too so we ended up here. I had Crab Louis for breakfast, my hubby had Sedona omelette, one of the twins has chicken fingers with a side of fruits and the other twins has kids breakfast. My Crab Louis is awesome if they can put more crabs on it, it will be perfection! My hubby's Sedona omelette is excellent, omelette with pulled pork and ham...OMG, ordering it next time. Kids breakfast is good size, too bad no pancake on the sides. Chicken fingers taste good, the side choices for that is either fries or fruits only in which for my fat boy is not enough! I have eaten here several times and have been disappointed each time. The Muchacho Omelette barely had anything in it. It was bland, lacking ingredients, and I used a lot of hot sauce to give it flavor -- barely any jalapeños! Migas de pan caliente de piperade was also lacking flavor. The idea is good, but I had to douse the migas with pepper to add some flavor. The piperade migas needed a lot more piperade! The mushroom omelette was also lacking in ingredients. It tasted very good, but not enough mushrooms and caramelized onions to go with the eggs. It was mostly just a plain egg omelet. Wasn't planning to dine here since I was ready for some delicious crepes at the French Market down the street or at least that's what I thought I would be having. The French market, btw, was not impressive. The produce and other items are overpriced with hardly any French influence. They were selling polish sausage and tamales of all things. Where were the crepes, foie gras and croissants? Anyway.... After walking around town for a while we decided to dine at Nosh based on the rave reviews and the number of people dining at the establishment. The restaurant itself is cute. The outdoor patio faces a parking lot. As for the food, it was just okay. I had the French Country Baguette. It was pretty good, but nothing to brag about. The seasoned fries were tasty. My mom had the chicken salad pita. It was just so-so in flavor. There was hardly any chicken salad in the pita. She was also expecting for the pita to be warm, which it was not. Very disappointed in my last trip. I used to frequent the old location and generally had a good experience. I am not sure if something has changed from the old location to the new one. I ordered the Mexican Benedict and 1) the chorizo lacked any flavor and was cold. 2) poached eggs were way over cooked (cardinal sin for a benedict). I was going to send my food back, but my waitress seemed to neglect my table for so long that I eventually just had a few bites and was done with it. Buttermilk has a two and a half hour wait, so you're on Yelp looking for another option... do yourself a favor and keep looking because Nosh isn't what it once was! What a sad turn of events for this once phenomenal place. Don't make the mistake of relying on their past reviews, rather, look at the most recent. When Nosh relocated to their current spot, they managed to keep their old reviews from their past profile, which shouldn't have been the case since they were closed for MONTHS while they were building their new place. Which brings me to... Nosh was a flourishing restaurant with fantastic food, but then takes on a mortgage and builds this massive building that underutilizes floor space and is poorly executed, only to then cut back not only on the quality of the ingredients they're offering, but altogether eliminate the best items on their original menu! During my most recent visit, my second visit to this new location, I was not only appalled to find their classic menu offerings still missing, but the quality of what they WERE serving was just... sad. How do you screw up eggs, bacon and toast? How do you jack up a salad? Terrible. Bland, colorless, just sad looking and poorly plated too no less. The only thing Nosh has going for it anymore is their old wait staff, but even they seem beaten down as evidenced by their empathetic response to my criticisms of the tripe they served me. Get your act together, sir! Bring back the old menu, bring back the old vibe! We opted to hit Nosh instead of Egg Harbor, bucking recommendations from friends. We weren't disappointed, but there wasn't any surprise and delight. I don't like to be rushed out of a breakfast joint, especially on a Sunday when I'm going on my fourth cup of coffee and just opening the Style section of the paper. That and the noise are my biggest critique. But neither should dissuade you from giving Nosh a try. The food was ample, especially for the price, and had some very unique elements. I had the blueberry pancakes and my husband had a fluffy omelette with bacon and gruyere. We like to rock it out to sweet and savory. The potatoes he ordered were particularly good, and we loved that a place that far out served Intelligentsia coffee (the best in the city). We were pleased and would recommend. We recently hit up Nosh for a 2nd annual meeting with out-of-town friends. I missed the cream of jalapeno soup the first time around, and reached out to them via email this time to see if it would be available this visit. I recevied a reply the same day, saying they would be sure to include it on Saturday's soup list so I could try it! I love that kind of service and it's not something I find too often in the city. The restaurant was busy, but they didn't rush us. When I asked off-hand whether their decaf was water or chemical processed, the waitress didn't give me the stink-eye like I'd half-expected. She was more than happy to check. I ended up just getting OJ anyway, but I really appreciated her offer and lack of attitude. The much-touted cream of jalapeno soup? AH. MAH. GAH. It's incredible. Tucked in the back side of a store along Geneva's busy Route 38, Nosh is a very easy to miss restaurant. However, with strong word of mouth and a pretty high loyalty rate, they are never lacking for customers. Nosh has a relatively large menu with some standard breakfast fare for those who prefer comfort food like French toast, eggs, omelettes, etc. But for those with a more experimental streak, they have many dishes available with nice twists on regular food such as my eggs benedict cristo (I'm not exact on the name) and my wife's tri-color eggs benedict (again, not entirely sure on the proper name). Today marked my second and my wife's third time at Nosh (the name was taken from an episode of Seinfeld), and it was just as good as I remembered it being from the first time we dined there many months ago. This was a good thing considering we invited some new friends along who are complete and utter brunch freaks. It would've been terrible if we'd let them down. read more

We randomly were in Geneva to pick up a Craigslist purchase and happened upon this place. Awesome - is all we can say! Great staff and the food was excellent and reasonably priced. I had the "Monte Cristo Benedict" with port-grape laced hollandaise and my fiancee had the "Migas De Pan Caliente" with peppers and goat cheese. We also split a small order of chocolate chip pancakes - with a container of HOT Maple syrup....yummm. Very cool they offer small pancake orders as sides - most places don't do that and make you order a full order. They also swapped my potatoes for a tasty side salad at no charge, which was also very nice. Everything was wonderful. ATTENTION VEGETARIANS! We need to extend a special kudos because of all the vegetarian options on the menu. My fiancee is vegetarian and was very happy with all the choices that were not just the same standard faire minus meat. They were actually well thought out dishes that could truly stand on their own. They also seemed to have a solid lunch menu as well. We stuck with breakfast but the folks next to us were eating lunch and ooing and ahhhing the whole way though. Beer and limited hard liquor is a plus as well, as well as some cool cocktails, Bloody Marys and variations on mimosas! Thanks Nosh - we look forward to seeing you again sometime soon. This is my favorite breakfast spot. Open for only breakfast and lunch, Nosh has a menu that is full of unusual items. I'm working through them menu and I've loved everything I have tried. The main culprit slowing down my progress is the mug as de puerco. If you like eggs there are three Spanish style eggs scrambles. The de puerco has multiple types if pork in in, chorizo, bacon, ham. It also contains croutons that are crunchy that also manage to melt in your mouth. Other items of not are the breakfast burrito, the nosh French toast, the Mars bars hotcakes, the lunch options (served from open to close) include a steak sandwich (they will actually cook it rare upon request), a Boursin melt (currently on special), the nosh tacos (fish or chicken). The fresh squeezed orange juice is a bit pricey but quite good. Their soups are also phenomenal. Try black bean soup! read more

You know, I love Nosh's food. They offer some really exciting and interesting dishes, including Mars Bar Hotcakes, Bananas Foster Pancakes and Swedish pancakes called Eyekeya (har har) under the heading "Mom Can't Make This" on their menu. My boyfriend loves the migas de pan caliente, and most recently, I enjoyed the mushroom omelet with wonderful caramelized onions baked inside. Honestly, I enjoy the food every time I dine here. The restaurant itself has a very bright and eclectic feel to it. I love that they've paired vintage and modern decor for a look that feels casual yet trendy. This isn't your average ma and pa brunch restaurant - it's updated, cool yet comfortable. In the summer, Nosh opens its patio to diners, but it does tend to feel like you're eating the parking lot, so I recommend staying inside. It can get quite busy at Nosh, so I recommend calling ahead to put your name on the list. But Nosh's service has just not been up to par in the last year and a half. The last three times I've been to the restaurant, I've been extremely frustrated with the waitstaff's inattentiveness. I often feel completely ignored. Take our visit last weekend, for example. The waitress appeared to take our order before we'd really had a chance to look at the menu. We asked for a few minutes. Ten minutes later, we were still waiting. We spent an additional five minutes trying to catch her eye. When she finally appeared, she made no mention of her absence, and to be honest, neither did we. But when it took another 10 minutes for our drinks to appear, we were irritated. And when my boyfriend's main course arrived before his appetizer, he couldn't take it any longer - he had to say something. The waitress said she thought he wanted "everything at once" but he had quite clearly stated that the soup was to come first. She simply wasn't listening. Unfortunately, our experience last weekend is very typical of the last half dozen experiences we've had at Nosh. I am constantly put off by servers' forgetfulness and have been ignored many times, including one experience where I was in need of the check and waited 10 minutes (our plates had already been cleared as well). I keep going back to Nosh simply because their brunch can't be beat by any other suburban restaurant, and that's what they earn four stars for. But I do hope they improve the service soon. read more

We have a new breakfast spot: Thank you Yelp. Outstanding food and excellent service in a pleasantly casual setting. I'm only holding out on the fifth star until I can get there again and see if they are consistently this good, because if they are, I will be a regular customer. The "specials" board had a list of soups, a list of specialty items, and a list of beers currently in stock. I could live off of that menu alone! I ordered the Costa Rican breakfast, which is just beans, a few homemade tortillas, cheese over both of those, and eggs over easy on the other side of the plate. A nice sauce (which I barely used because the food was perfectly seasoned already) and a nice, light jicama slaw rounded out the plate. Seemingly not much to it, but perfectly executed. I could eat that every day. Looking forward to trying lunch there next. Update: 5 star rating achieved. We've been there twice since the first review and the service is effortlessly pleasant. More importantly, the food is consistently excellent. Our most recent trip was with friends who were blown away. Update (8/13/11): Hadn't been here in a while and went for breakfast this morning. I had the Salmon Benedict which probably ranks in the top 3 breakfasts I've ever had. Here again, it's simple ingredients perfectly seasoned and expertly prepared. One thing to note, though. I finally had the opportunity to try this place last week when I had a day off. My mom and I went for a late breakfast. I'm the type of person that no longer wants breakfast food after I've been up and about for too long (we went around 10 AM) so I ordered a sandwich because I knew that I probably wasn't going to feel like eating again until 4 or 5. Some restaurants get annoyed with people like me who don't want breakfast during "breakfast time" but not Nosh! I had the chicken salad sandwich, and it was the best chicken salad sandwich I have ever had. I loved that there were non-fried side dish items for no additional charge as well. So for a great price, I received a delicious sandwich (that I actually got two meals out of because it was quite large) in a fast friendly manner and I didn't get stuck with French fries. I'm still hoping to go back for actual breakfast in the near future. I actually love breakfast food and keep hearing rave reviews about theirs. read more

This place is really good. This is one of a few places in the Fox Valley that emphasizes quality and not quantity. If you want your good ol' country breakfast, this is not your place. If you're looking for pancakes out of the box, head down to the nearest IHOP. Nosh has a great variety of foods on the menu, and at 10:30 in the morning, it's really hard to decide between the breakfast and lunch options. I've tried the crab cake trio, cinnamon french toast, and chicken salad pita. Service was great, food was even better. To preface, I live about 35 miles from Nosh. The fact that we bundle up three kids and head on out to Geneva to eat here, when there are dozens of breakfast places closer, should give you an idea of the regard in which we hold Nosh. I've had quite a lot on the menu, but the Nosh French toast is to die for (no matter what we're ordering we always get at least a tasting of this dish). Specials are varied, and yummy. The folks at Nosh also know how to make a proper Hollandaise sauce, so Eggs Benedict are a joy here. Liquor server starts after 10 on Sundays, and we've enjoyed great bloodies and mimosas/bellinis here. My only complaint with Nosh is that they've ignored my pleas to open a second location in the Hinsdale/Clarendon Hills area. read more

Our first choice for breakfast had a packed parking lot so we set out here from Carol Stream after reading rave reviews on their french toast. I figured I might as well treat my wife to somewhere new for my birthday since I still haven't found a restaurant that serves a consistently good french toast. I expected a wait from the articles I have read but even though the restaurant was small we were quickly seated. It did seem to take a bit long for our server to acknowledge us and ask us for a beverage even though it did not seem particularly busy . My wife had trouble ordering but even though I had mentioned it was our first time here our server seemed patient but not helpful. My wife and I both order the Nosh French Toast which is described as "Our special recipe of challah bread soaked in vanilla-orange zest infused batter, served with lemon creme anglaise and powdered sugar" The french toast is said to be three pieces of bread but it was hard to tell since it is served slice into strips. The french toast itself was a bit dry and although the batter and sauce seemed excellent the bread itself was thin and dry. Hardly "soaked". Looking at the toast as I worked my way down it seems that my wife and I were both served end pieces of the loaf so this may have accounted for the toughness of the meal. The side of bacon was perfectly cooked and the herb potatoes my wife order were beautifully cooked but seasoning on the potatoes was barely noticeable. Overall average service, disinterested staff, unremarkable french toast adds up to our money being spent closer to home. Not worth the trip. read more

So very delicious! Sometimes my husband and I drive out here for special occasion breakfasts, and the food is just fantastic. It's not cheap, and you're paying for quality not quantity, but it's totally worth it. Their creative egg dishes make me melt, and the service is great (if a little quirky, but that's OK). Eat here and I can almost guarantee you'll like your food (if not your check). The whole "we're so cool"/"strollers r us" atmosphere makes me wonder if my love of this place signifies that I might actually some sort of yuppie douche in disguise, but I don't care. Decent food but our experience with the customer service was TERRIBLE. Took forever to get a table and the hostesses seemed really unorganized. When we finally got to our table it took us 15 minutes just for a waitress to ask what we wanted to drink. Then when we finally ordered the waitress gave us so much attitude. Took a while to get our food and when we finally got the bill and paid, they didn't give our change back! We literally had to call in the manager and complain for us to get our change. Overall, I'm DEFINITELY not going back. I can find a million other places with just as good food and WAY better service. read more
