As I'm sure you have read in every other review for Joes, the bread and dipping oil is to die for. I would leave happy just after that. For cocktails, the seasonal sangria is always yummy. If they happen to have the strawberry rhubarb sangria, GET IT!! It is truly a treat! The margaritas are also good made with all fresh juices instead of sour mix and they are huge! Perfect bang for the buck! For appetizers; we tried the Ahi tuna wontons which were extremely flavorful. Sesame crusted tuna sashimi on a crispy wonton smothered in wasabi aioli, ginger and a sweet eel sauce. (Pictured) yum! The mustard crusted chicken is amazing; and is what I usually get. Two chicken breasts with Panko mustard and a yummy dipping sauce. Served with creamy garlic mashed potatoes and flavorful green beans. You can see why I don't sway from that entree when I come here. NYAJ is your basic mediocre American chain restaurant. We had trouble making our reservation for 16. After getting a bit of runaround, I had my friend with the Russian Mafia accent call - Lo and behold the manager was able to make room for us. Due to the runaround, I didn't feel bad when we arrived and our 16 had grown to 19. As for the food. The complementary bread is bland with no flavor. Made me realize that I'm not missing anything since I've chosen to eliminate bread from my diet. I wish I had a beaker on me since I really wonder if my Pinot Grigio was a full 9 ounces. The Mona Lisa salad was meh. And expensive for what I got. A plate of greens. 3 mozzarella balls. Maybe 2 strawberries sliced on top. And 4 or 5 mini chicken tenders. For $16. On the one hand, service was extremely slow. We waited a good 15-20 minutes for our tables - after being warned that our tables would be given away if we were late. And it took about 2 hours for dinner. But the waitress was great and issued 7 separate checks for our party of 19. Without us even asking. Would I be back? Not really by choice. I should have read the reviews after it reopened but didn't as we have always loved Joes. We come here every few months and pretty much get the same take out order. This time was horrible. The homemade veggie burger that I love so much was clearly replaced with a frozen patty. The Caesar salad had no pizza crisps on them even though when I ordered I asked for extra. Even our favorite Caribbean tenders weren't as good as always. And the lack of attention to detail, I mean not putting in silverware for a To-go order!?!? Disappointing!! read more

Not Your Average Joes is pretty much your average Joes. They try hard to pitch themselves as a higher end American fare restaurant, but either way you slice it - it's a chain. It's a large, fast moving machine that presents itself as inconsistent. Their higher than normal prices is hard to justify. I got their chicken caprese. It was well marinated and a bit overdone laying on a bed of arugula. It was more $12.99 and not the menu price of $15.99. The flavor gave a nice blast but the portion was meager to say the least. The wait staff was sluggish and bothered. I'm not fond of chain spots that think of themselves more highly than they ought. read more

My wife and I walked across the parking lot from the Fairfiled Inn, where were staying for our daughter's hockey tournament over Thanksgiving weekend, to the Hyannis Mall to grab a bite at the food court and make sure we were close by while they shopped and explored. While my wife was laying down the rules to the kids I saw there was a sit down restaurant at the mall with a clever name. I figured the worst case scenario would be a Chile's experience and we could at least relax and grab a couple of drinks. When we walked in around 515PM on Saturday night is was stirring nicely which was good to see. We sat at the bar and were greeted immediately by a very nice young lady named Natasia. After first glance at the menu I thought that the food would be average as everything is kind of a play on several different categories of comfort food. We asked Natalia for advice and ending up ordering the Mustard Encrusted Chicken Sandwich, Mashed, Cole Slaw and a Side of Spinach. Each element was 5 of 5 for its classification. My wife had the Steak Tips, Mashed and Green Beans which were also prepared perfectly and would give them each 5 of 5 stars. Before dinner Natalia served to us some good focaccia bread with an awesome dipping concoction of oils, Italian grated cheeses, and other stuff. It turned out to be a great start! It's in a mall, but that doesn't mean it isn't good. Decor is your standard "Look how trendy we are!" Think Cheesecake Factory but with more primary colors. Layout is a little tight. Especially the entrance from within the mall, which takes you practically behind the bar before you get to the floor. And if there is a crowd, trying to get to the hostess (going through the bar tables) is very annoying. Every meal starts out with super soft farmer's style bread served with oil and parmesan. So simple, but so good. Food is pretty good. Sometimes they try to be a little fancier than necessary. For example, I often get the quesadilla, which is great, but I ask for the "pineapple-cilantro salsa" and "guacamole drizzle" on the side. Bcs dumped on the dish turns it into mish-mash of flavor and texture that does not please. Similarly I got the squash canneloni, which turned out to be weird pasta tubes filled with squash puree, served on a bed of mega garlicky wet spinach, and topped with a couple teaspoons of cranberry-teriyaki sauce. So: pasta, squash, garlic, spinach, cranberry, teriyaki. All on one plate. Yuck. But that was the only bad meal I had. The veggie burger is ok. Nothing to write home about. The veggie spring rolls are great. The tomato-basil soup was surprisingly flavorful. Best of all, unlike places that are strict about no substitutions, NYAJ is actually really good about letting you make changes. In fact they encourage it. I think that's a really cool philosophy. Ummm, my green beans were good. The drinks were OK. There ends the positive part of the review. It was very bad. THE GORY DETAILS: At our first visit, a few weeks ago, we expressed some frustration to the manager about the wording of the movie night promotion. He gave us two $5 coupons to return again. (see my previous review). We arrived around 7:30 and asked to sit in the bar area, and were shown a small table in the walkway, so we asked if we could sit at a vacated but still dirty table against the wall. First mistake. There were several dirty tables waiting to be cleaned. "Sure, no problem, wait over here." 20 minutes later, we wished we had just taken the first one. Our waitress was sweet and good natured, but everything took a very long time. I tried a hot pepper margarita ($8) that was basically too sweet and only mildly spicy. It was OK. My friend had a premium margarita that arrived with some gran marnier floating in an inside-out lime ($9).He said it was OK and he got a mild buzz off it. Another server brought us an order of fried calamari. Thanks, we said, but we didn't order that. She was completely stumped but a nearby table finally waved her over. The bread basket with the puddle of cheesy oil was the highlight of the evening. For an appetizer, we ordered the same Thai chicken lettuce wraps we had enjoyed on our first visit. This time they were swimming in a watery sauce that made it impossible to pick up without the sauce running down your arm. Not easy to eat with a fork either, since it's all shredded and just falls apart. Basically it tasted like something I could pull together on my own at home, iceberg lettuce and all. For my entree, I ordered the angus meatloaf (which I'd seen at a neighboring table at our first visit and it looked good then). Well, when it finally came out it looked very different. I can't remember when I was last served actually burned food at a restaurant. The meatloaf triangles were shrunken, charred, dried,and quite burned on one side. My friend tasted it, and his comment was "are you sure that's meat?" The gravy was good but there was way too little of it. The green beans were delicious. As for the rest, I couldn't eat it and didn't want to bring it home. My friend ordered cranberry teriyaki chicken served on sweet potato canoli, with sauteed spinach. The chicken was over-cooked and very dry and shrunken. The sauce did not taste remotely "teriyaki." Then I heard a loud cracking/crunching/grinding sound and saw him wince and grab his mouth. I was really horrified and expected him to spit out a whole tooth. Instead he spit out a fairly large piece of ... something. Sand? Glass? Rock? Right then, the waitress appeared and asked "how is everything." We replied, "well, funny you should ask, he just bit down on a piece of something hard in his food," and we showed it to her. She said it must have been some dirt on the spinach leaves. Hmm. Ok. At this point I was wondering if it might have been a piece of his tooth that just fractured and broke off, not anything in the food at all. She did ask if he would like it re-made, but we were now running late for our movie, so we declined. At that point my friend had lost his appetite, and I wasn't enjoying my "are you sure that's meat?" meatloaf, so I took his plate to finish his sweet potato canoli. Next thing you know, I am biting down on a hard piece of sand/rock/glass myself. The waitress came back. I told her it just happened to me also, it was not dirt on the spinach, it was definitely in the sweet potato canoli. She said she would tell the manager, and she returned and said "he says they must not have washed the sweet potato enough. Sorry." At that point we just asked for the check, which the waitress brought over fairly promptly... except it was not our check. Finding and returning with our check took much longer. So after this 2 hour fiasco, I asked my friend, "could that have been any worse?" His reply was "No, that was really bad. I would have enjoyed McDonalds more." Luckily there was a second screening of our movie at 10 PM since we missed the 9:30 showing. Not once did the manager come over to talk to us, check in with us, or even make eye contact...much less welcome us back. I'm pretty sure he recognized us from our last visit and was staying away. And no apology, no sympathy, no taking the entree with the rock in it off the bill, and definitely no more gift certificates to come give them another chance. Sooo.. one star. we'll spend our money elsewhere and encourage you to do the same! read more

Usually have a pretty good experience here but today was very strange, the bartender didn't greet us, she just asked us what we wanted. I have not seen her smile once and I've been here for an hour. She also has both of her AirPods in because she can't be bothered to listen or have a conversation with customers. Hopefully she has a better day tomorrow. read more

The most inconsistent NYAJ ever. Every time I come in here and order the same dish I had the last time it ALWAYS looks different and has a different assortment of ingredients when the menu hasnt changed. The "chef" here really needs to be trained to NYAJ standards because I frequent the watertown location where the food is much better and is worth the price. Came in to Hyannis location last week and ordered the saffron cod over pan seared crab cake in "lobster corn chorizo" broth. Broth was so fatty that it left marks around the edges of the plate and left a residue in my mouth. Fish had ZERO seasoning and tasted like nothing, needed salt BADLY. Crab cake was absolutely disgusting, it was mushy and tasted fishy, couldnt even eat it. There was hardly and corn in the broth and certainly no lobster flavor. Chorizo is an excellent accompaniment with white fish.......too bad there wasnt any here. There appeared to be cubed sausage or linguica in the sauce, the same they use in the jambalaya, it was not the beautiful red chorizo you would expect. The line cooks here and the chef do not know how to send out a good looking plate of food or how to simply sear a piece of fish without scraping it out of the pan and completely destroying the crust (the goal of a sear). This wouldnt be so bad if I wasnt paying $22 for this unpleasent dinner (see pictures) Hire a new kitchen staff. Wont even go on about the 25 minute ticket times. read more

Went here for the second time in a month. First time we stood with 3 other parties of 2 for 10 minutes waiting for a table, no hostess or waitress ever acknowledged us- we left. 2nd time we went in and stood at the hostess station. Someone said they would be right with us. We waited. And waited. Finally a guy comes out, 2 women who just walked in go right in front of us and were seated immediately. After seating them he walks past us without a single word and goes in the back. We left again. My mother was with us standing there with a cane, never got seated again. NYAJ is a great chain...their menu is varied and fun. They have healthy choices, gluten free choices, vegetarian, and indulgent choices. This las time I got the Summer Squash Bolognese, the veggie version of an italian classic made with a zesty mushroom bolognese, sauteed zucchini and summer squash, topped with grated romano cheese. Delicious. Filling and well balanced. The gluten free roll I got was also light and moist. Our waitress was attentive, happy and smiley. Very good experience ! read more

No, after reviewing Yelp on my iPhone we get the let's hit the chain at the mall (play groaning dad sound here) So, I've been here before and for a chain, they do take pride in there stuff. But folks, isn't life about experiencing new things, finding those amazing places and not running with the crowd? Oh well, screw all that for tonight. Thankfully my kids love raw tuna and immediately jumped on the Ahi Wonton appetizer. Great job NYAJ's on this one. Ahi is high quality (tender and no connective bits) and nicely seared. The crispy wonton ads a nice texture. As for the sauces - great combination of bite of wasabi and sweet teriaki style. This dish is a solid hit and comes in a reasonable portion for 3 people. My kids scarfed down the bread and dipping sauce. Apparently it was yummy. I opted for the veggie burger. I love a good house made alternative to ground beef and one more chicken sandwich will make me cluck. Unfortunately, this was not a good one. They use a lot of rice as filler, which is something that I have never seen. The patty fell apart and also wasn't extremely tasty. Slaw was good and not overly mayo laden. Service was solid and the waitress was well versed in the menu (except for the veggie burger). I'm guessing it doesn't get much mileage. read more

What a great first time at Joe's. My colleague and I were looking for a place close to our hotel. Right before before we just walked next door to olive garden I pulled out the yelp app and he quickly identified "Not your average Joe's" as a great place. He said I wouldn't be disappointed and he was right. The bread was outstanding. At first I was surprised that it was not warm, especially as the oil/cheese/garlic blend for dipping is put together in a 3 step process right at the bar where we sat. But once I tasted it, I quickly realized it didn't matter. I ate very little pieces of this moist soft bread with tons of the oil on each piece to try and justify it on my diet. I would like to thank Anjuli for explaining thoroughly the Hosin Salmon salad to me and I decided it was not the best choice. She then recommended the Cobb salad and offered me the upgrade to add salmon to it. OMG, that was easily one of the best salads I've ever had. I happen to love "STUFF" in my salad, and if you do too then then this is the one for you. It was loaded, bacon, hard boiled eggs, cheese, avacado...and more. And on top top off that, a wonderfully cooked nice sized piece of salmon. There menu calls the section BIG SALADS and that is a perfect way to describe them. On my diet I rarely leave a restaurant saying wow I am stuffed from that salad, but I was. We sat at the bar so we didn't interact with anyone else or I'd have more to add. Anjuli was my first and last impression of Joes, she was extremely friendly, and offered great service. Our drinks were always full and she made sure we were happy with everything. She was not familiar with the promotion and she insisted that I could taste any wine on any day. I guess I expected complimentary wine tasting to be more than the sip they give you when you want to check out a new wine. Anyway, each sip took about 10 minutes from delivery to when she checked to see if I liked the wine. I was on a bike trip from Boston To Provincetown with a friend of mine. Unfortunately i got food from another place before we saw not your average joes, but decided to ask whether it will be possible to sit there. My friend was about to order from there and Iwas ready to order one more meal in the restaurant as well as I understand they won't agree for me to eat my outside food there. However, at the door i was met by a grumpy bearded man who just said "no, this is a private property. you can't be here" even without listening what i'm saying.... It's fine to say no but you don't have to be an asshole. A second later he even announced that he is the manager... More like Just Your Average Joe's. The hostess who sat us could have cared less and never smiled when greeting customer. We had reservations and were seated fairly quickly. After ordering an Italian Sausage pizza and a Mona Lisa Salad to share, we were informed by our waitress about 20 minutes later they were out of sausage. So we ordered the pepperoni pizza. The salad was brought out and the chicken was cold and dry to the point of being chewy. The rest of the salad was great. The bread and olive oil dip they provide everyone was phenomenal. 35 minutes later our pepperoni pizza came out. I've had better pizza out of a box. I'm giving them 3 stars because our waitress was great and they comped the pizza for the error and time it took to come out. Not too sure what happened tonight. This place used to be my go-to but after the mediocre food this evening it has me second guessing that decision. I shared an appetizer of spring rolls and asked for the veggie burger as an entree. The spring rolls were decidedly not freshly prepared, were still deeply chilled in the middle and the rice paper was thick and barely flexible. Not sure if it was a function of being too deeply chilled, but the wrapper and ingredients (noodles, asparagus, carrots) were dry and didn't mesh together at all. The saving grace was the peanut and cilantro sauce - that was exceptional and made the appetizer palatable. The veggie burger didn't hold up well to the bun. Fell apart after the first bite and the patty didn't have any texture or real flavor at all. The whole grain (while appreciated) bun overpowered the patty in terms of both flavor and volume. I don't know what I was expecting but it was not this. Don't get me wrong, this wasn't a make or break event. Certainly willing to give them another shot, the service from Elina was great and truly appreciate the 15% military discount. read more

What. The. Hell. This place is a joke. Since reopening they are very busy, because unfortunately we lack a decent sit down restaurant in Hyannis unless you go to KKaties or BBC on Main Street. We put our name in - they said about an hour. Fine. We walked the mall and waited for the text. After an hour and a half we decided to go wait at the restaurant. We wait another 15 minutes and never get called so we finally ask the guy at the desk - now it's 10 more minutes. If it's gonna be a 2 hour wait just say so so we can find somewhere else to eat. Don't say an hour and then we wait two. So now we're Hangry. As expected, all the prices went up. And we've eaten at NYAJ to know it honestly doesn't get MORE average than NYAJ and the food wasn't really worth the money then so we were just itching with anticipation to see how we were gonna piss our money out now. They added a section with more nutrition labeling which was nice. They brought in the Impossible Burger. My boyfriend and I are vegan - which means that SOMEHOW they have to charge us MORE for fucking vegetables. You have no risk for contamination like you do with meat, no required cooking temps to kill bacteria, no worrying about hormones BUT yes, somehow you should charge us more for vegetables. Thanks for that you assholes. So my boyfriend ordered the Knife and Fork burger. TAKE THIS DEPLORABLE PIECE OF TRASH OFF THE MENU. For almost $16 you get the most FLAT garbage you've ever seen in your life. Pros: - Gluten free menu - Gluten free dipping bread and oil - Positive customer service experience dining in - Quick to go service for take out Cons: -Burger that I had dining in was not good wouldn't order again and almost never went back So originally I ordered a burger during a dine in experience and thought it was below average. I recently went back but tried it to go style instead. Service was good and food was tasty. I ordered the chicken sandwich this time off the gluten free menu and it was tastier than I expected. While I may always pass on the burgers I would do the chicken sandwich again and just the fact that they have the gluten free menu and have someone carefully serve it to you is even better. read more

We just left here! We were celebrating my birthday and I had a GREAT time. Our server Josh was really nice and really funny. I had the mustard crusted chicken and a pomegranate fizz which were both delicious! If you're going I STRONGLY suggest the creme brûlée cheesecake it is literally the best dessert I have EVER eaten. Not good enough for average this time. Way too much salt on everything. No bread came . Had to ask and got it once we were almost done. Our entrees came far too quickly, only a few minutes after our apps. Meatloaf on cold mashed potatoes, over salted. Gravy requested on side was all over salty portion. Shrimp and chicken rice bowl was a salt lick. Why use a heavy hand to salt a dish that has a heavy dose of soy? Really destroyed the flavors of the items in the stir fry. I will say, the service was excellent. The place was hopping and they were doing their best in a positive way and were handling the crowds quite well. Thus the 2 stars for service. read more
