What a good surprise. We arrived at the restaurant expecting a good meal and came out amazed by the experince. 1st good impression: the decor. Simple, rustic and very welcoming. Then, a nice lady escorted us to our table where we had the pleasure to meet John A, our outstanding waiter. He let us enough time to look at the menu and suggested us some meal choices which sounded and tasted delicious. While we were waiting for our entrees, our palate was pleased by some great bread with an even better olive oil, chili and parmesan cheese, hummm!!! Then the main course, grilled peacan salmon with sweet mashed potato and asparagus for my husband (you have to tru this) and grilled rosemary scallops served on a bed of isralian couscous with chery tomatoes, sugar snap peas, corn and bacon (yes bacon!) and the most delicious sweet tomato butter cream reduction. Both plates were amazing!!! We finished this with an home made golgi/apple crisp which was warm and tasty, what a great way to end a meal! And what can we say about John A? I just don't get this place. First, it's loud, and while we were sitting I could feel the air being blown on me but they couldn't or wouldn't do anything about it. As for the food. One type of steak, that they cut for you into strips. Wtf? First, a steak should sit before you cut it. Second, I'm an adult, I don't need someone to cut my steak for me. Burgers are not served on a Hamburg bun, why? Is is to be fancy? It's an effing burger, just serve it like one. Margarita's not served in a MARGARITA glass, again, why? Almost every bar and restaurant uses them, but not this place. My wife and daughter really like the place, I just don't care for it and don't really care for the menu selection. I will say the staff has always been nice. But one more bizarre thing about this place. The waiter who takes the order isn't the same person who brings he food out so you sometimes have people coming to your table with food they thought was your table. Then we were subjected to the general manager training an employee at the table across from us and we couldn't really hear anything but his talking to this young man. This franchise holds a special spot for me in that we my wife and I signed the lease for the first apartment we would share together, we ate at the Joe's in Watertown Ma. Once we moved away from Watertown and settled in Southern NH, we lost a restaurant we had enjoyed quite a bit. Fast forward 10+ years, and we were excited to see NYA Joe's show up in South Nashua. I've been twice to this location, once with my wife and kids, and more recently for lunch with my Mom. Both occasions were a great experience. The restaurant is built in a building that used to be a Pier 1 Imports, and they kept the high ceilings. While a nice touch- it does create a noise level that is a bit high as the conversation tends to bounce around the extra ceiling space. As my lunch with my Mom was more recent, I'll speak specifically to that visit. Our waitress (apologies, can't remember her name) was fantastic. Right amount of conversation, and very well-versed with the menu. She was attentive but not intrusive. Very nice to have such a person these days! The food is good, atmosphere good (even if a little loud), the service is great, and the space itself is modern. Went there for the first time today with my gf. She had been there before and loved it. She had the pan fried haddock with mashed potatoes. I had the bacon cheeseburger with fries.. we each shared to try both dishes. They were both amazing. The bread with oil was so dammm good, i couldnt stop eating it. Today was my only day off from work and it was great. Topped off by awesome food and a great waitress that was there every time we needed her. She did a great job. I know where i will be eating on my next day off. We now have a favorite place to eat and i thought the prices were very good. I will be telling everyone at work to go eat there tomorrow. Tried dining here recently during the covid stuff. Nothing but trouble from start to finish. 1. First, they give the entire table only ONE PAPER MENU. This is the only restaurant we've been to that has done this. They expect you to scan the barcode on the table to bring up a menu on your phone. So everyone is staring at their phones during dinner out. The barcode doesn't even take you to their menu, but to their main web page. Their online menu is very hard to read so we ended up just taking turns with the paper menu. Not good, and definitely not the dining out experience we were hoping for. 2. Ordered an iced tea flavored with strawberry. Was expecting a typical flavored tea drink like you get everywhere else, but this place is trying to be trendy or something and put actual mashed strawberry in my tea, making it too thick and gross to drink, with a rotten flavor. I sent it back. 3. The coffee we got was so strong and dark that even after pouring almost the entire creamer into it, it was still almost black. Yuck. 4. We went to this restaurant because we wanted to get bowls of soup. Turns out, the virus likes bowls, because this restaurant has removed them from the menu. You can only get a CUP of soup, and a small cup at that. This cup will cost you $6.50 - $8. What a joke. 5. Did I mention that we went to this restaurant mainly because we wanted soup? Well the soup we wanted, that we remembered from before and loved, the Clam Chowder, is no more. They have changed the recipe, it now tastes like something that comes out of a can. Super bland, full of huge potatoes, just not good. They used to have the best clam chowder but those days are long gone. The virus must've really liked their old clam chowder because they had to get rid of it. You will be very disappointed if you order their clam chowder these days expecting it to be what you remember from before. 6. My son's hamburger was ordered Medium Well. It came medium rare. So we sent it back. He had fries to tide him over. After another 10 minutes it comes back burnt. I tried scraping off the burnt parts so he could have SOMETHING to eat for dinner. After scraping off the black parts, such a small portion was left that it was like maybe 2 bites. So my son had mostly fries for dinner. Those were good, I guess. They did take the hamburger off the bill though, thankfully. But my son didn't get much of a dinner. 7. I ordered the mustard crusted chicken sandwich that was supposed to come with lemon aioli sauce. They forgot to put the sauce on so I had to ask them to bring it. Just total lack of quality in the kitchen. 8. We were never even offered to have our drinks refilled. I actually left the restaurant wanting more coke but never got it. Overall, this was not a good experience from start to finish. We would've been better off at home. If this restaurant wants to stay in business, especially when so many people are staying home these days, they better up their game and work on the quality of their food and service. Last night we sent out to not your average Joe's. My wife's meal was correctly made. I got the meatloaf dinner and we asked for and paid for an extra piece of meat because their portion size is small. Also asked for sautéed spinach which they had no problem doing. We get home there's no extra piece of meat loaf. It was broccoli instead of the sautéed spinach. I can't stand broccoli. We called up to complain and the manager wanted us to come back to get the correct order. Well at that point that was not gonna happen. Gave us credit or says he was going to we haven't seen it yet for the meatloaf dinner. But still charged us for the extra piece of meatloaf. Was not a good experience at all. We will not return do not your average Joe's. Whoever did the quality control at the counter I hope was spoken to. Because the slip that they put in with the meal that says what you ordered was spelled very clearly of what the meal was supposed to have. Completely Underwhelming. I know Yelp is important to business owners so I don't write this review in haste. This is my second time at this "Not Your Average Joe's" and the second time I'm completely underwhelmed. Let me just say it outright, this is bar food at restaurant prices. But even as bar food it's not good. I don't mind paying for good food, and for the most part, that's almost entirely why I went out to eat, but when the price to quality ratio is so off, you have to call that out. This is the case with the food at Joe's. As an example, I ordered the Cheesesteak Eggrolls. You get two for $10. Ok, if they're good, that's fair, right? $5 an eggroll. Good, let's do this. Now, let me tell you what you get for $5 an eggroll... You get two rather large eggrolls. So far so good, yeah? Then you bite into it and discover that 1) it's basically a grease sponge. It was so soggy that the contents plopped right out. Gross. How long did they sit at the pass that the oil saturated the wonton like that? Then 2) the content of the eggroll is as such: 20% cheese, 5% onions, 15% steak, 60% air. Yes... Air. And that would be something I might be able to overlook as cheese melts and steak shrinks, but 3) the chipped sirloin was of the lowest quality money (very little money, mind you) can buy. Pretty much all fat with a little meat on there - it was stringy and rubbery. It was very noticeable. Well, I got two eggrolls, so maybe this was a bad one, right? But... No, they were identical. I guess I can give points for being consistent. While there, we were seated near the serving staff station. Two waitresses at the station talked about how much they hated the place and couldn't wait to leave. Looking past how unprofessional that is, I think it is also quite telling in how much effort is going into the food and service. It sounds like a good idea. It's a scratch kitchen, so there's tons of promise in that concept, but it absolutely fails in execution. When your staff doesn't even want to be there, what is your argument to me as to why I should want to be there? If it was the great food, you have quite a losing argument. In fairness, I have heard people say great things about this place, which is why I gave it a second chance after the first time this place underwhelmed me, but I can see no evidence of why anybody would recommend this place to anybody else. Then it occurred to me, the people who have told me this place was great are those friends I would consider to be lushes (we all have those friends, they're usually fun, or at least make you feel good when you compare their problems to yours). So, I would have to wonder exactly how slizzard you would have to be to find this appetizing? And you know what? It doesn't have to be appetizing, it just has to have the right combination of starch and grease to neutralize the alcohol you consumed in excess. If that's your bar, sure, the recommendation makes sense. If you're sober, you'll likely walk away with a completely different impression. I laugh hysterically when I see other people's review wherein it says, "The food is amazing!" or "My [insert crap here] was delicious." There's NO WAY anybody could possibly believe this. I'm just baffled. What are you comparing this to? Wendy's? Come on... Be honest, people. This is one star food at three star (or more) prices. Of course, you're entitled to your own opinion, but I literally cannot fathom how anybody could rave about this place (unless you were severely toasted and have a romanticized recollection of the food and its value). I can give you one thing, you named the joint appropriately. It's really Not Your Average Joe's, as "Average" is perhaps giving more credit than what is due. read more

What a great restaurant! The ambience was very cool. Kind of industrial with a bit of steampunk; very tastefully done. The food was excellent. We started with the nachos that had plenty of cheese, cilantro, tomatoes, and delicious creme fraiche. I had the grilled salmon and it was perfect. A little crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Loved it. All of our party of 5 was impressed with the food. Our server was attentive, pleasant, and got everything right. UPDATE: was contacted by the manager (Jimmi), who was very understanding and apologetic for our previous experience. He offered to not only send a giftcard to reimburse for the wings, but an additional amount to put toward giving them another shot. So we did...and MAN am i glad we did! We dined at this location last Wednesday during the dinner rush. We only had to wait about 15min (in the very comfortable waiting area) before we were called to our booth. We had a cocktail and ordered the ahi tuna wontons for an appetizer. This appetizer is a huge value. We werent sure what to expect, but honestly, when it comes to nice seared tuna...we expected a small portion. We were pleasantly surprised when it was brought to the table. I would consider it a VERY generous amount for the price ($12) and told my wife i will make a meal of it next time. Each fried seasoned wonton (the other option was cucumber for the more health conscious) was adorned with a thick slab of pan seared tuna, and drizzled with a creamy sauce. The seasoning on the wontons had a bit of kick that cut the richness of the tuna nicely. We HIGHLY recommend this appetizer! For dinner i ordered the mustard and panko crusted chicken blt and my wife had the waldorf salad. After the appetizer, we both wound up taking half our entrées home and enjoyed them for lunch the next day. Jimmi really came through and i really appreciate the time and effort he took to reach out and ensure that we had a great experience after our previous one didnt go so well. While i had previously written Joes off as a place i could do without, we will now keep it in rotation as a place to hit when we want a good meal while shopping on the DW. Simply put, awful ! I had the chicken parmigiana. I have never in my life had chicken that had such a disgusting texture. Refrozen ? Microwaved ? I have no idea. The sauce was like tomato paste straight from can. I don't think I have ever sent anything back until this experience. I didn't even need to say anything, the bartender could read my face. And my wife's face when I gave her a taste...sorry honey. The good news is that they instantly replaced it with a different meal. That "made to order" plate came out as quickly as the chicken parmigiana. Microwave? Plates sitting around to reheat ? I have no idea. The bottom line is that the food is awful and expensive. The menu offers food for just about anyone. They offer a great location that is easy to reach and have solid parking availability. The food is rather pricey for what they have to offer however. After I posted this I was speaking w my young kids and asked "should we take down this yelp review" and the manager walks up to our table he says "actually I was just reading the two star yelp review". I find it totally inappropriate for him to come up to me and my children and question us in such a direct approach while in the middle of our meal. My hubby & I were pumped when this location opened right down the street from us. We came here for our anniversary dinner last night. We were gonna go down to Burlington and go to Capital Grille but didn't want to be too far from our two kids who have been sick, plus I had a coupon for a free entree & dessert since my birthday last month. You really can not beat that perk! Our waiter was really nice, although service was a bit slow because he also had a party of 8 next to us that he was dealing with solo. As a former waitress I sympathized and did not hold it against him. For drinks, my hubby got the margarita and I got the pomegranate fizz (counting down the weeks til this bun is out of the oven and I can have real drinks again!), He loved his margarita and the pomegranate fizz was great. We got the steak & cheese egg rolls and I loved them. Hubs isn't a huge fan of onions but he agreed they were good otherwise. You get 4 halves, we each ate 1 and took the other 2 to go since they were large and pretty filling. For dinner we both got the mustard chicken. He got fries in lieu of green beans and I opted for the sauteed spinach. The chicken was good but I don't think I would get it again. Not very flavorful. We ended our night with the Peanut Butter Thing and a couple Haute Chocolates. So good! Our waiter joked that it would be "the best peanut butter thing we had all day". He wasn't lying. Usually spend about $20 per plate including a drink and the tip, assuming we don't get dessert or anything. They just get it right. Every. Fucking. Time. I've never been disappointed here, and I've probably been around 8 to 10 times at this point in the last 3 months and it still hasn't gotten old. The only valid thing I can see not liking about this place is the noise level on say, a Friday or a Saturday night. It's not deafening by any means but if you're with 3-4 people on a weekend you're probably gonna have to repeat yourself once every 5 minutes. This place is awesome. My wife and I went here a couple weeks ago and it was absolutely packed, but the place was well staffed for it and we were seated immediately. Our server's name was Ben, I think, and I cannot stress how much he meant to our experience. First of all he was very professional and looked is directly in the eye and knew the menu well. I know many servers pretend to care about the customers just to get paid but he was extremely genuine. Furthermore, this kid has the voice of a hod. Seriously, it seems as if he stole Morgan Freeman voice the same way Ursala stole Ariel's. We could have listened to him describe the menu all night but we were short on time. Seriously, somebody needs to offer him a job reading books to blind people. The food was also amazing. Large portions, which is what I like, and everything tasted fresh and as I'd each chef puts a little piece of their heart and soul into the meal. Went in today for my first time at Not Your Average Joes in Nashua. Glad to say I will be back again. I was a little hesitant to try this spot from a few friends but must've worked out all the kinks. Started off with the lettuce wraps and the tuna wontons. They give the option of the tuna either on cucumber slices or wontons. Or both! We took them straight on the cucumbers and with the wasabi aioli it was perfect. The lettuce wraps (chicken salad) with some fresh oranges were refreshing. For the two entrees I had the mustard chicken with mashed and green beans and a lemon aioli. Crisp, light and juicy. Excellent preparation on the chicken. Mashed was also a great choice. Green beans were seasoned well but a little over cooked. No biggie. The other entree was the jambalaya. Our server, Mel, did not steer us wrong here. Great choice and perfect mix of spice and flavor. Overall, couldn't even finish it and brought it home for immediate consumption. They also give you bread and oil at the beginning at that was also a great addition to the meal. Overall, it was our server Mel who convinced me to come back. Great knowledge of the menu, helpful suggestions and a splendid personality was surely a great plus to the lunch. I would give this 2 1/2 stars if I could, because it is a VERY average place. Average ambience, average food, etc. Below average speed of service (took me over 1 1/2 hours on a weekday to eat lunch! No lunch should be over 45 minutes max on a working weekday), and above average prices. Tried the mango shrimp, in which I could barely taste any shrimp, and tried the overloaded chicken enchiladas. The one standout was the deviled eggs appetizer, which was delicious. But to have a meal that was barely lukewarm after waiting so long for the food to arrive indicated that they were not able to handle our party of 4. Even the service, which was attentive, was otherwise average. No apologies for the late food, and not even a smile from our otherwise competent server. *M-eh* Average experience. I never had a problem with the Methuen location, but for some reason the Nashua location keeps ruining my favorite restaurant for me. Last weekend my waitress didn't bring my appetizer and when I reminded her about it, she tried telling me I never ordered it. Her attitude was a bit snippy, but she still good a good tip because everyone has off days sometimes. I just came back from the Nashua NYAJ's now without ever getting seated after waiting 45 mins. There was no line when me and a friend of mine got there. We got called up to be seated at a table in the center of the area we were being seated in. I asked if we could be seated at the empty booth beside it, granted my friend I was with has anxiety when seated upfront and center and to be honest, the booths are more comfortable. She said sure, it will be 10 minutes to wait for the booth to be cleaned off. 30 minutes go by, and still not seated, though people that came in much later than us got seated. One of the couples got seated at the table that was supposedly being cleared for us. I still love Not Your Average Joe's, but I will never go to the Nashua location again. Methuen location is still great though!! read more
