This is the 2nd time I've tried this place out and I will not be back. The first time around was ok except that my apt was at 11am and I waited over an hour to be seen. Yesterday, I had Lina doing my nails and I cannot recall the gal who did my toes. The gal who did my toes was fine, Lina is a whole other topic. First off, she was rude. She got offended when I asked for a regular manicure instead of gel. I dont like gel. Never have. She kept asking why and I said I just dont like it. Then she started talking her native tongue and I could instantly tell she was talking bad. But that's not really bothers me. What bothers me is the rushing through my French manicure and it coming out so sloppily and bubbles in the polish in my nails and the fact she didnt clean up my cuticles as good. I still have a good amount of skin around my cuticles that she should have taken off but didnt, OH BUT ALSO THE FACT THE EVERY NAIL UNDERNEATH IS CUT! I couldnt feel it at first but later in the night as well as today underneath my nails hurt really bad. This is NOT ok. So...summary for Lina: nails done sloppily, french style not even in the design, bubbles in the job, didnt even get my entire nail with polish, cuts underneath all of my fingernails to the point warm water and soap hurts, cuticles still not cleaned up. This is a new boutique nail spa that is across from Crevier BMW and next to the Hornblower. You have to park in a parking structure but they validate for the full amount and time there. The salon is very clean, warm and inviting. They have a little candy bar and offered coffee, tea, water and wine! The massage chairs are brand new and comfy. They have a wide selection of colors and brands. The 2 women working while I visited were very nice- Lina and Lynn. They were very nice and talkative. 2 stars is being generous... Came with my mom and sister, with groupons for a gel manicure, spa pedicure with sea salt scrub, hot stone massage and complimentary snacks and drinks. First off, there were no "snacks" and the "complimentary drink" was a teeny tiny (bathroom size) dixi cup of water....no joke. As for quality... My sister did not get lotion/massage on her arms during her manicure. I did not get the pumice stone scrub during my pedicure (standard with any pedicure and both my mom and sister got it). The hot stones were HOT (like scalding, fire HOT) and burned my leg. I have had hot stone massages before, they're great. Trust me when I said the stone was HOT. She had to cool it down in water before trying again...and then she only "massaged" my legs for just over 1 minute....total, not each. Worst part...my nail polish is all over my cuticles (see photos), which I'm sure means it will be peeling any day now. :( Professionalism... The employees were "ok" but spoke amongst themselves (probably about us), in their language, the entire time. Overall... Groupon Fail. 2 stars, only because my Moms mani/pedi seemed to be ok. This is THE urban oasis to go to. NQ Nails & Spa is located right on PCH w/ a perfect view of the ocean. The ladies here at NQ are one of the nicest I've ever met. I visited NQ on their opening day back in September of last year. We were having a rough month and I thought of a perfect way to relax. Michelle,(the owner of NQ) contacted me via Yelp about her grand opening. I liked a lot of her and her team's nail art and she was kind enough to let me know of the grand opening. Over the many years of me going to nail salons, I think that this is probably going to be one to remember. Michelle instantly greeted me and she gave us some grand opening desserts and drinks. I literally thought I was in relaxation heaven. Tammy,(my pedicurist) was really sweet and even though I had to admit I wasn't the most still person in the world, she never lost her cool. Trina,(my manicurist) and Lynn (my nail ar-tist) are very sweet ladies as well. Trina was a very friendly and open person to talk with and Lynn has the stillness of a mighty oak. I found an art design on Pinterest and right away they knew what they were doing. The end product was the nicest I have ever seen. So much love and detail went into these nails and the experience was so relaxing that after it was all said and done I didn't want to leave. Granted, this nail salon is on the pricier scale of things but, you really get the bang for your buck. So in the end, if you have some money to spend for some high quality nails and service, by all means come here. You will have the best drive down here and the best manicure you have had in a while. I found a groupon for this location and needed to get my nails and toes done for my cousins wedding the next day. I brought my mom so she could get a gel manicure and pedicure, with hot stone massage. My groupon would have: complimentary drinks, the acryllic nail set with pedicure and hot stone massage. When we were waiting to be served, we were looking around and Mom immediately noticed that the bags that were supposed to be clean for the tubs were being reused and recycled, because the lady took it out and rinsed it and put it back! Whattttt??!! She put it on the chair my mom eventually sat at. Red flag. Mom mentioned it to me, and I was making a mental note. Thats not sanitary and you dont know who the person before you had what type of foot issue. This becomes important because after this visit, mom has now had a foot issue , itching, scratching, ever since we visited. No Bueno. And I feel horrible for subjecting my mom to that. My dad usually does her toes ( he loves my moms feet-so she has a personal foot massueus at her service- lucky gal). But in this case, we thought since its my cousins wedding , why not have her try gel. Mistake. Complimentary drinks: coffee, tea, water, wines ( red or white). Parking: a bit confusing but has a garage that they validate. Pros: spacious, windows and natural light, on pch. Location is good.Has a flat screen tv that shows services offered with pricing. Newer massage chairs. Parking garage close and you can get it validated. My mom loved her gel manicure, and pedicure. But sanitary practices were not good. Cons: my nail broke within 24 hours. I didnt do anything crazy. It broke during my cousins wedding and I was pissed. My polish on my toes also chipped within days. Sanitary practices with the lady reusing the plastic liner by just rinsing and not replacing with a new sterile one, or use proper disinfectant is NOT GOOD. Mom now has foot issues , itching, scratching, and discomfort from this service. Never had an issue before and now : boom. She now is under doctors care , using foot cortisone cream to help with the itching. I feel bad for her. Also, the parking is hidden, so you really have to watch for it or you will miss it. Which i did and had to turn around. Im giving this place a 2 . 1 star for the location. 1 star for the gel manicure/pedicure for mom. The sanitary issue is a huge problem, and my service was good. But deductions of stars because my nail broke less than 12 hours and my nail polish chipped and smuged less than 3 hours after I left. I dunno. It took 30 mins. after my appt started to get serviced. And I arrived 25 mins early!!! One girl also came early but was asked to come back. When she did, she STILL had to wait! Parking is janky... especially for Newport. But they do validate. Traffic is another thing, its CRAY CRAY! It's right before an intersection so getting out from the parking lot will be a challenge. It seems as though they are relying on Groupon for marketing (because the prices are the same in the salon), but the services were just not good enough for me to return. The ladies were nice enough, but they did not properly trim my cuticles, and the gel manicure barely lasted a week (started peeling and chipping off). I also asked for a simple stripe/tape nailart, and they told me it would come off after 1 or 2 days. I've had gel manicures and similar nailart that easily lasted 2-3 weeks, so this was news to me. A Groupon brought me in for the first time. Staff was very friendly, the salon was clean but no one offered me the beverage and snacks included in my Groupon. I had to ask and that bothered me. The pedicure is why I'm writing this review though. After inspecting my toes when I got home, it was clear the technician did not spend ANY time on my cuticles. They look horrible and there is a gap where the cuticles should be pushed back or gone completely, plus the polish already chipped (it's been 2 days) and she didn't bother cleaning up her polish mess on my toes. There was some traffic when we were finding this place, and I feel really bad because I sent my boyfriend driving all over the place looking for parking that we didn't have to pay for...before we realized that this place has free parking validation LOL. Anyway got in early before my appointment. My boyfriend went and got some snacks for me, because I was super hungry, and I was never offered any wine...but whatevs. Selected a color, and after waiting about 20 minutes or so, they came over to work on me. The girl doing my pedicure seemed really tired, and she actually gave my foot a couple of cuts when she was trying to remove my calluses. I should have said something, but I didn't...my mistake. The girl working on my mani was super friendly and we talked about everything from school to sushi restaurants haha. She did a great job, and my gel mani is still looking great after 2 weeks! All in all, not bad...however, I do have to say that the color I selected and the matching # polish are not matching. As in...the color of the polish that was put on my nails did not match the color of the original nail color that I selected. :( Mismatch in numbering perhaps? I don't know what happened, but I selected a peachy color and ended up with bright pink LOL. Again, I should have spoken up but chosen not to. The interior is beautiful, with floor to ceiling windows that allow an abundance of natural light, creating a bright yet calming ambiance. Their pedicure spas are the fancy high end ones that give you a legit back massage while you get your nails done. I walked in on a Monday morning for an acrylic fill and pedicure and was warmly greeted by the ladies working, who are just as friendly as they are talented. I was invited to pick my color from an impressive selection of neatly displayed OPI polishes, and then seated at one of the pedicure spas. Lynn began work on my acrylic fill, while another manicurist did my pedicure simultaneously. I explained that I was not happy with the nails I came in with (my previous manicure was a shaping disaster), and she understand exactly what I was referring to. Without any further direction, she shaped my nails to uniform stiletto/almond perfection. It was such a relief to be in the hands of someone as skilled as Lynn-I highly recommend her. The pedicure was also fantastic. I just got the basic service, which happened to include an amazing hot stone massage. The products that they use all smell nice and left my skin feeling soft and smooth. My total came to just $45. They accept all major credit cards, but prefer tips in cash. We were a bit late for our appointment, but the ladies there were kind and still performed quality service. I visited a week ago and my gel manicure and normal pedicure are still in great condition! They have plenty of gel and normal polish choices and use OPI and Essie primarily. Once I had chosen my gel color, they said they had a normal polish match for all gel colors, which saved me the hassle of trying to color match for my toes- so convenient! Purchased a Groupon that included gel manicure and spa pedicure with wine and snack bar. Gel Manicure: (3.5/5): I asked for square shape but got a mix of square and round. Pedicure (3/5): They did three layers of nail polish instead of the usual two at other places which resulted in both my toes getting messed up later because they weren't completely dry even after waiting. The foot massage was just okay, very light and not much pressure. I was not offered any refreshments or snacks as indicated in the Groupon. And was also not told about the massage chair so I didn't realize I could have used it the whole time. Service also felt kind of rushed, maybe because it was close to closing time. I had to keep adjusting the gel manicure machine to fit my hands when at other salons they always did that for me so I wasn't uncomfortable. Overall the Groupon saved me about $12 vs going to my regular salon, but my pedicure is messed up and I did not receive the same quality of service I usually get at other nail salons. read more

Went in on a Groupon to get lashes for the first time ever. The girl was really sweet. I had an appoint and waited for 15 min. When the first eye was finished the tape was ripped off so abruptly it pulled up my under eye skin and gave me a hematoma... I yelped in pain and saw that it looked bruised right away and she said it could be an allergy to the glue. I said no it's definitely from the tape pulling it really hurt and asked she pull the tape off slowly for the other eye. The lashes are uneven and clumpy, one in the center of the eye and the other at the outside edge. I said I didn't think the eyes look even and when I asked if she could fix them to look more the same she said she would do it at my two week for my follow up. I feel like when someone is saying at the time of service they want it fixed it should be done then... not told to wait two weeks. She wasn't rude by any means just dismissive. Since I do modeling it is really a bummer when that's part of my income. The lashes are not even and give one the appearance of being misshapen. But also one of the clumps has a jagged edge and scrapes my corner lid when I blink and it's really uncomfortable. I will not be returning for my free two week follow up as part of my groupon, or ever. UPDATE: 4 days later I had to have the lashes professionally removed. The lash salon (not a nail salon person) was appalled that someone who was certified in this area would have done such a terrible job. The lashes were glued in large clumps to my skin on my eyelid and lashes, which is what was making it uncomfortable and difficult to sleep. I had a thick line of hard plastic glued to my lids which was starting to separate and create drooping and hard edges stabbing. Unfortunately about half of my natural lashes came off with the extensions. The lady who did my lashes I believe is named Michelle. Michelle, if you see this please do not continue to do lashes. Also I still have a blood blister under my eye lid from ripping the adhesive so quickly. I have no lashes left, what looks like a black eye and had to pay to remove them. Comes out to about $60 with out tip. I adore Michelle, which might be the lead technician who usually answers the phone. She is very sweet. She has realized I am very particular on my nails, so she goes the extra mile to make sure I am happy with my results. I will add, I did have a negative experience once, my second time here, with the eye brow waxing. I've been trying to find someone good, and since my nails were good I tried eyebrow waxing here. Not doing that anymore, or at least with the same lady. Again I am very particular and if you MESS UP my Eyebrows, I'm never letting you touch my face again. Came here with a girl friend after we bought a Groupon. Very unhappy with the service we received. It was easy enough to make an appointment. When we arrived half the spa was empty and we were given a seat right away. We told her we had a Groupon and she asked us if we could cancel it because it was better for them if we paid them directly. I picked a gel color for my nails. A dark red with sparkles. it looked like prom pink. When I pointed it out she told me it was a new color and she couldn't do anything about it. Now I'm stuck with this color for a couple of weeks. Hopefully the paint all over my cuticles doesn't last that long. Two girls came in without appointments and this caused her to rush through my manicure which sadly was obvious in the quality of work. My pedicure came out much better. But still sub-par. I paid extra for the callous remover and she didn't even use a pumice stone to scrub it off. She just rinsed it off in the water. BEWARE!! My experience was so bad I decided to write my first yelp review ever. I've been coming to NQ for over a year, and loved their gel manicures. Went there today and there must be new management or something, as I didn't recognize anyone in there. Had the WORST manicure experience of my LIFE. The woman was so aggressive in scraping my nails she left cut marks in my nail beds from her aggressive scraping and cutting. She filed all my nails crooked and I had to ask for her to straighten them. She did not offer my gloves for the gel manicure, I had to ask. Then when painting my nails there were MULTIPLE hairs in each nail, bubbles bubbling out and she did not say anything until I asked her to fix them. She got nail polish ALL over my cuticles and fingers and did not clean it off. The whole experience was awful and I asked multiple times for her to fix things like hairs in my gel nail polish or GIANT bubbles. After my manicure, I showed them the nail polish that was baked onto my hands and cuticles and was told that it would "just wash off". Such a shame, this used to be such a great place but whatever changes happened totally messed it up. My roommate also went recently and had a similarly bad experience. Do not go here! It is not the quality of what it used to be. Super bummed and now have to find a new nail salon. read more

Beware if you have been a long time customer here. They have new management and today I went in with all new people besides one of the OG ladies that unfortunately was busy and did not do my nails. First off when I walked in it smelled so so bad of super toxic awful smelling nail polish and fumes. I pushed through and tried to ignore it. The new people very nice but they have no idea how to do nails. I almost want to ask them if they actually have their license to practice because my nails are so bad- not to mention it was more expensive than before. The gentlemen who cut my nails made them so uneven I kept having to ask him to fix each nail. Then when he was cutting my cuticles he was just attacking them with no rhyme or reason it felt so unnatural and I have skin and random pieces all over, finally for the paint I had to hold back and let him finish hoping they would look good by the end, but it was like an 8 year old did my nails. The color was even on my hands, like on my skin far away from my nails! My nails now (about 5 hours later) are so bubbled I'll have to take the polish off. My toes seem to be decent which were done by a lady but overall such a bad experience. I will not be going back here and am so livid! If it wasn't a 20 minute drive I would go back and ask them to redo my hands. Such a shame this place used to be the best in Newport. read more

Beware! Under new ownership. This place used to be great, now it's the worst experience I have ever had. Immediately I knew something was up when I called to make an appointment for 6. The man who answered the phone made it sound like they were fully booked and asked me to come in at 4:30. I told him I could not get there at that time so he asked if I could come at five. I told him I would do my best to get there at five. After racing there to get there by appointment time I find the shop is empty and it wasn't any busier at six. Then the person who did my nails filed into my skin. My thumb is bleeding and she was still filing, I had to ask her to STOP! I also had to point out that the gel was sticking to my skin. Two days later it is separating. In addition they raised prices without telling me in advance, so I paid way more for horrible service. I highly recommend a different place. Unfortunately this new owner is awful. I felt like I was just a dollar bill. I'm am certain they will be out of business soon. read more
