Really sad to say this salon has gone significantly downhill after being a regular customer for the past 2 years. I've always had good experiences here, which is why today was so disappointing. I came in for a gel removal, removal of 2 tips, and a regular manicure. From the beginning, the experience felt uncomfortable and unprofessional. My nail tech was not friendly or welcoming, repeatedly had to ask coworkers questions throughout my service, and seemed unsure of what was on my nails. She kept saying I had hard gel despite me explaining multiple times that it was regular gel and that I had gotten it done at this exact salon only 2 weeks ago. I've also only ever seen this particular employee doing pedicures, so the amount of uncertainty throughout the appointment made me question whether she was comfortable doing manicures. She then attempted to put gel back on my nails even after I had asked for regular polish. After I corrected that, she applied a regular base coat and stopped to have me pay before she would finish painting my nails. I paid for the manicure and removal, and then while she was finishing my polish, I was told I owed another $5 because apparently the removal I had already paid for only covered the 2 tips and not the gel. The extra $5 is not the issue at all. I'm happy to pay for the services I received. It was the poor communication and the way the entire situation was handled. Worst of all, the finished manicure reflects the experience. My nails are jagged, uneven and rough to the touch, and the polish doesn't even reach my cuticles. I left with my nails looking worse than I expected from a professional manicure. They seem to have several new employees recently, and unfortunately my last few visits have left me with the impression that some of the staff may still be learning. I completely understand that everyone has to learn, but clients should not be paying full salon prices while feeling like they are someone's practice appointment, especially without being told beforehand. After coming here consistently for 2 years, I'm genuinely disappointed to feel like I now need to find a new salon. read more

I came here because a friend highly recommended this salon. I called and asked for someone who was good with shaping nails, and I was told to book with Carol. I even changed my appointment time to see her. When I checked in, the iPad showed I was with Carol, I was in fact not with Carol. The service was disappointing from start to finish. The e-file nicked two of my fingers badly enough to make them bleed. The gel polish wasn't applied evenly, and I ended up reshaping my own pinky nails when I got home because they were uneven. I also booked a specific pedicure based on what was listed on their website, only to be told their website wasn't up to date. There was no apology, no effort to make it right, and no accountability. I don't understand how people can work in customer service and not provide basic customer service when something goes wrong. After I left, I called the salon. The owner apologized and said she had texted me that Carol wouldn't be there, but she had actually texted the wrong phone number. She promised to Zelle me 20% back and said she'd call me the following week. She never called me, and she never sent the Zelle refund she promised. Overall, it wasn't just the quality of the service that was disappointing--it was the complete lack of accountability afterward. There are plenty of mediocre nail salons in Costa Mesa and Orange County that at least stand behind their work. I won't be coming back. read more

I've been coming to this salon for about a year. I was very happy in the beginning but the last time I went a couple days ago I wasn't as happy. If you're looking for a good massage don't get Jessie. It's obvious that massage is not her specialty. She was busy talking to Bryant. The colors for the Builder gel fill and the pedicure do not match. They're close but they're not the same color. My $50 gel fill doesn't look as good as it usually does. The sides of my nails are poorly done. I've always been satisfied before but Bryant is not the guy for your Builder gel fills. Also please pay attention to what you are being charged for - Apparently if your nails are this length, they will charge $10 extra and when I asked her why I was getting charged for that amount for a tip that I did not consent to, she tried telling me it was for the tip of my nails.. Love this place. I usually get gel builder every 3-4 weeks, and I'm always so impressed with the results. I've never had any lifting or chips, and given how brutally hard I am on my nails, I'd expect something to happen to them in a 3-4 week period - but nope! I also love how they always take the time to smooth out the cuticle area; so as my nails grow out, there's no noticeable line between the gel builder and my natural nails, making it look seamless and polished - just like regular gel polish (but wayyy more durable)! Unlike other salons, if you have a specific look in mind, you can trust them to bring it to life. And more importantly, they are super open to feedback. If something looks crooked or you want your nails shorter, maybe the gel doesn't look right or the artwork....you can communicate that to them without worrying about any negative attitudes. They genuinely want you to leave happy, which makes such a difference compared to all the other places I've been in this area. It's unlikely you'll have a mishap but sometimes they happen and if they do, you can feel comfortable going back in and asking them to fix it! Recently, I noticed a small bubble in my toe polish the day after my appointment. I had to rush back as I was heading out of town (literally) and, despite being busy, they quickly fixed it for me without any fuss. I was in and out in 10-15 minutes. Honestly, given my stress level at the time, their professional and friendly demeanor was refreshing. They're empathetic and they truly want you to be happy with the services you paid for. Oh.....and if you're a runner, they know how to do a proper "runner" pedicure. Just mention you run a lot and often lose toenails, and they'll understand the care your feet need to avoid losing more. I really wanted to love this place, but unfortunately, after today, I will not be returning. Today was my 3rd time visiting this nail salon. On my previous visits, I can say I left happy with my services. This visit was the complete opposite!! I honestly thought I was in the wrong salon because the techs did a horrible job. I spent $124 on services, and I left a 15% tip out of grace, but a tip wasn't deserved. Once we got in the car and compared our results, I was very disappointed. Over $140+ to get sloppy results is unacceptable. My daughter got a deluxe pedicure that was done faster than my express pedicure, but we ended with the same atrocious results. Our nails are unevenly filed, polish was streaky, grainy, and had bubbles in it. Some parts of my nails didn't even have polish on them! I could have executed our services with better results, and I'm not a licensed nail technician. The most infuriating thing wasn't even my services. I don't speak the nail technician's language, but it's unprofessional when staff speaks about a customer. A customer was checking out, and I overhead her asking a question about her services. The tech answered, the customer left, and then the tech started stomping around and commenting about the customer that left. Extremely rude!! Body language is universal, I don't need a translator to interpret what was being said. During my previous visits, the owner was there, and this time, there was no owner. Talk about the most genuine, friendliest, attentive, incredible nail technicians (Angela and Le) and owner/manager I've ever come across in all my 20 years of getting my nails done. I had a gel mani and deluxe pedicure here yesterday. I was coming from a nearby shop where the tech never showed. I drove from 30 minutes away so I wanted to stay in the area. The employees at Zen are really friendly and clean. They helped me find colors I was looking for. Unfortunately I'm not satisfied with my nails. After one day my gel polish has chipped. My pedicure was enjoyable but my nails were cut so short and crooked. I'm leaving for vacation soon so I'm really disappointed. I had a very poor pedicure experience with this place yesterday. The pedicurist filed too roughly and left me with 2 cuts and my toe is still in pain the next day. She failed to consider my request to shape the toenail as a square and she continued to file the sides. Another nail technician walking by had to advise her on how to do things. It's hard to find a place that can do builder gel, hard gel or soft gel. They offer that, plus acrylic and I think they even offer dip powders. This is my new go to nail salon.
