After getting an infection under my big toe nail from one of those all-inclusive spa chairs, led me to seek out a podiatrist, which ended with the removal of my big toenail. He then advised to stay away from that type of spa chairs and recommended to only go to The Nail Lounge as they do not use those standalone spa chairs and they are meticulous with their sanitation. I discovered that with all-inclusive spa chairs, the metal part (where bacteria can collect) they are suppose to be removed after each client and cleaned with bleach for 20 minutes before starting with a new client. However, that's never done due the time constraints. I have been going to The Nail Lounge for seven years now and I've never had an issue. I receive compliments on my fingernails and toenails all the time. The owner, Tanasha is upbeat and caring. I highly recommend The Nail Lounge. read more

Really Disappointed in a recent experience I had at NL. Was in the area and haven't had good luck with Nail Salons near me so decided to try Nail lounge. Staff seemed very nice when I walked in. They don't have traditional pedicure massage chairs (just if that's what you're looking for) but was irrelevant since I was only getting dip manicure. I asked if they had SNS red dip and was told yes but then was brought colors from other brands. Apparently they don't really have SNS or minimal selection. I had said I don't want the dip to be thick and ultimately that's what it ended up being along with a snipped cuticle and sloppy clean up. My nails still had red powder all over and nothing was used to clean it off. When I got home it was even more evident the red dip powder that was all over front/back of hands. A bad experience from start to finish. My mani and pedi lasted 1 day and was $70. The nail tech even said while I was getting it done, "oh you're event is Saturday? I hope it lasts." I was like umm yea I hope it can last for TWO days! It didn't. That was nothing compared to my sisters experience. She was getting nails for her wedding. She had called in and emailed a picture of what she wanted, and was told they could do it. We went in and again she confirmed they could do the style. The woman at the front said yes. We sat down, the nail tech immediately said she had no idea how to do it. So the woman who originally said yes tried, after an hour, she gave up. Never offered a discount or for my sister not to pay. Do not go here!!! They have no clue what they are doing and charge a premium! Went in for a gel pedi and extensions with dip. First of all, you'll put your feet in a bucket. There is no massage chair, no real foot tub, no bubbles. It's a black bucket. But here is where it gets really interesting. The nail tech tried 3 rounds of attempting to put the extensions on. She took over 15 minutes trying to force them to stay on and they were just popping off onto the towel. By the fourth round I asked her if she'd ever done this to which she responded "oh yes" and continued to struggle to get past step 1. The nails wouldn't stay on and she blamed the weather for it. I kindly suggested we scrap the idea and have her just give me a simple manicure/clean up the nail bed. No color, no buff cause I'd need to go get them done elsewhere. She scoffed and suggested I get gel nails to which I said "no thank you." Why would gel nails stick any better?! BTW: I found out later that she was using top coat instead of glue based on the manager or person at front. Final total at register? $120 with tip. I was frankly shocked! $120 for nothing done on my hands and a gel pedicure! I'm writing this as I'm waiting to get my nails done. The reaction of the manager/front person when I told her that I didn't get my nails done... "yeah, sorry that didn't work out." This is a horrible way to conduct business. First and last time in here and I highly recommend you go elsewhere! I made sure to tell everyone at the store I frequent in the same shopping center to steer clear! The Nail Lounge is tucked away into a strip mall behind Jack in the Crack on 17th street. It's a small shop with friendly manicurists, every shade of color imaginable with brands ranging from Chanel, OPI and Essie. They taut themselves as being, "good, clean fun" where they take extra precautions to make sure that everything is extra sanitary. I like that they didn't try to up-sell any other services, but at $48 already for a pedi, I would hope that it would include everything. Honestly, that's my only complaint, if it wasn't so damn expensive (prices range from $28 for a mini to upwards of $100) this would be my go to for mani's and pedi's. They do have a deal though, every Tuesday their regular $48 pedi is $28. Make sure you make your appointment well in advance as this place is always packed and walk-ins are near impossible. read more

I LOVE it here. I went on a whim in December, and I haven't been anywhere else since. I usually go to Sylvia or Erin, and both are incredible. They are freaking hilarious. I usually go with my mom, and we have so much fun when we're here. And I used to despise getting a mani-pedi. It'd be so awkward sitting there unable to talk. Everyone I've met here has been very nice, social, and great to talk to. Which is good if you're spending an hour with them! It IS more expensive here, but the quality of work is outstanding. They will often give you the tools they used, like a buffer or cuticle stick, so you know you're getting something brand spankin' new. Their color selection is amazing. Chanel, OPI, Essie, you name it-they've got it. I've had manicures from here last over a week-and I'm the kind of girl who rarely has manicures last a day without a chip or crack. I've been getting OPI gel lately ($42) and I LOVE it. My nails usually can't grow past the tip of my nail and now they look like acrylics they're so long. They have deals also-a "Mani Monday" and "Tootsie Tuesday" where you can get an upgrade for the price of the cheapest mani or pedi. I am sold on this place. They literally put your feet in BUCKETS for the pedicures. Actual buckets. With a plastic bag in them. These are not luxury salon chairs with built in pedicure stations. This is my absolute favourite nail salon. I don't live in Newport Beach but have been coming here for years! (Needless to say I was happy when I got a job near it!) Everyone is so lovely and it starts when the super sweet receptionist calls to remind you of your appointment. Everything they use has been sterilized and the containers you put your feet in are lined so it's super clean (which is perfect for a neat freak like me) I've seen so many of their stylists and they've all been personable and professional. Their spa pedicure is the best because they get so much dead skin off the bottom of your feet and they do a fantastic job with gels. My sister and I came here the other day to get our nails painted. Mimosas were had and a $5 off was given upon arrival. If you don't like mimosas they have coffee or tea as well. The place is super clean and they only use nail filers and buffers once. They sterilize everything else after every use. The ladies that did my sisters and my nails were very kind and gentle. This is the only the second time I've ever written a yelp review but felt it was necessary because I am mortified by the experience I just had at this nail salon. This place is extremely over priced and my nails look terrible. The polish on my toenails is chunky and all over my skin. The women who did my gel manicure kept getting lint from her towel in my nails so would have to re do them. It took almost an hour and a half for a basic gel manicure. Q nails down the street does a 10 times better job for half the price. Unfortunately they are not open on sundays and I have a wedding to attend to this week. First off, this place kicks ass. I am literally getting stopped on the street, at Mother's Market, while getting my lady business waxed, etc., just to see where I get my nails done. Let's start by being honest, I have amazing nails. My nail to finger ratio has been compared to the harmony of the Simon and Garfunkel ... so they have it pretty sweet with me. Let's also be honest about another thing, I can be a bit of a pain in the butt when it comes to my nails looking lawyer profesh or slutty hooker, as there is no in between. Both looks are welcomed in the world of KT, but I don't want to get sidelined by some rogue nail stylist who doesn't understand that my nails are used as tools both in court and with company. I want my nails to be the perfect mix of sexy and cute, duh. I have been going to the Nail Lounge since my last lady got preggo and couldn't do pedicures anymore. I am so crazy freaky OCD that this is the perfect place for me. They are so sanitary and not in a sterile doctor's office sort of way, but in a friendly "you won't get MRSA here but you will have fun" sorta way. I have gone to pretty much all the wonderful ladies of the Nail Lounge, and I have never had a bad experience. They are all very meticulous, friendly and quick to talk about my favorite topics: men, food, hair, sex and tabloids. (Obvi, these are in unrelated conversations ... what kind of freak do you think I am!?) They have a great selection of mags, a Keurig, water and kind owners/managers who are always there and never let anything slip. They whole staff are really amazing. They very rarely have same day appointments, so please call ahead. I will assure you that everyone is amazing and fun! OK, I know what you are going to say. KT, how can you rate something five stars when it is so expensive? I will tell you because MRSA is more expensive. I know. I had a rogue pedicure in 2009 and it cost me a fucking fortune in medical procedures. I was like a way less famous Paula Abdul. You can go to one of the thousand of places in CM where the sanitation is questionable or you can drop the extra buckeroos and rest easy at night. You know what's priceless ... MRSA free dreams. I was totally screwed one day as I was desperately trying to get a nail appointment on 17th street before my Vegas weekend and everywhere was booked. The Nail Lounge squeezed me in and from what I could recall did an AMAZING job! A few months later (have been doing my nails myself due to my severely depressing budgetary restrictions of late), I was again in desperate need of a quick, clean, and excellent mani pedi. I called up The Nail Lounge and they again were able to squeeze me in. I was thrilled. After all, The Nail Lounge is bright, clean, and the staff is friendly. The vibe is reminiscent of your favorite hair salon (i.e., you can chat about boyfriends and movies and get love life advice), rather than the typical nail salon where you are pretty sure the staff is talking crap about you in a language you don't understand. Anyway, I was kicking back, relaxing, and enjoying my wonderful foot massage and careful clipping of my cuticles and I remembered to ask how much the price was. 75 (PLUS tip of course, and I always give 20%) for a shellac mani and spa pedi (and that was a deal - they give discounts on Tuesdays). I would have walked out if my hands and feet weren't currently soaking and the staff hadn't just spent 20 minutes digging dirt out of my toe and finger nails. Anxiety and panic set in. How the hell was I going to afford this??? This has got to be the most expensive mani pedi in the universe and I began to recall why I always ended up at the less sanitary and less enjoyable crappy salon down the street. Because I'm broke girl who lives life ballin' on a budget. A sad tale to be sure. Well, despite a minor glitch in the final coat (it had to be redone because it didn't set property), my nails looked FREAKING AMAZING! Seriously, I got them done an entire THREE WEEKS AGO and they have not even the smallest chip yet. I've never seen anything like it, even for shellac. They usually come off after about 10 days and I pick them off and then my nails are completely destroyed until they grow out. I think I can probably get another week out of them although there is obviously that space at the bottom since they are starting to grow out. And trust me, I am SO HARD on my nails! So, long story short, this place is expensive at heck, but they do an amazing job. Your nails won't chip on vacay or for that wedding or whatever you have coming up. I have had three East Coast trips for work this month and I've been shaking hands with pride all November. A "good deal" if you get your nails done every week or two since they last so long. Five stars and my favorite spot. I'm not even docking them for being so damn pricey because they are a semi-swanky salon that isn't promoting itself as a good deal and they do am amazing job. And you get what you pay for here. If you can swing it financially, definitely choose The Nail Lounge. I'll start saving for my next mani pedi now. I won't be returning. After all of the reviews claiming how clean, etc...I ended up with a nail fungus on two of my nails after a gel polish?! Really?! This is ridiculous! The nail tech didn't remove the tips completely that I had when I came in and a few days after I left I started to see a dark spot under my pale pink polish. After I removed it, I found a disgusting green spot on my nail. I have never had a nail infection...EVER!!! Totally unacceptable! UPDATE: I guess Cherri found me in the system because I received a call from her following this review. She did offer me another manicure, um, no thank you..and a refund. Unfortunately, I didn't have time to make an appointment to go in to show her the bacteria not fungus that had damaged my nails. Yes, that's correct she asked me to make an appointment to come in and point out their mistake! I changed my rating to two stars because she did seem genuinely apologetic and the good news is this only a minor situation that has already started to grow off my nails. Here's my advice to Cherri and her staff, just because you only do "natural nails" you should still be able to remove a nail tip correctly. And CalGels are not natural and for that matter neither are any other gels! Both of which are products you use in your salon. read more

The Nail Lounge is a bright and cubic nail salon decorated with fluorescent pinks and oranges. It almost feels as if its tailored towards the teeny-bopper generation. Near the entrance is a make-your-own lotion stand and in the middle of the shop is an assortment of accessories that you would find at a store like Libby Lu's in Downtown Disney. There was even a purse that said "BOTOX" on it -- a must-know term for girls of all ages. Unlike other stores, they give you an information sheet to fill out at the beginning where you can fill out the types of services you'd like. I'm not really sure what purpose this served as the people who did my mani and pedi didn't seem to mind the sheet at all. Their equipment seems fairly clean and some of the tools they used on me were new. They offer a wide array of nail polishes and what's amazing is that they even have Chanel polish. I felt the service could have been much better. Even though the price wasn't steep, I didn't feel like I got my money's worth. The nail polish didn't completely cover my toes as the edges were left ignored. The second coat of polish on my nails didn't cover all the areas that the first coat did so I'm left with uneven colors on my nails. Also, the lady didn't trim the cuticles on my hands very well. I would revisit as I value cleanliness overall and it's hard to find a nail place that upholds that quality. They don't accept tip on credit cards so be sure to bring check or cash. I saw found this place on the internet and was super excitied to go, the website won me over. I made an appointment to get a $48 pedi on a Sunday. They called me on Saturday and asked why I didn't make it to the appointment I told them it was Sunday. I showed up on Sunday and they put me in for a quickie pedi while the whole time I thought I was getting the deluxe pedi. The technican talked to me once at the very end and seemed unhappy to be there. To all the people who are griping about the whole appointment thing, get over yourselves. Is it really that hard to call ahead to make an appointment? Most of the reputable nail places I've been to require them, and if a nail place is good, then it gets busy. That's what the whole appointment system is for. It's really quite logical and convenient if you think about it. As for the traffic, if you know your way around here, you know that in most instances it's best to exit the 55 before it ends and take side streets the rest of the way. The southbound 55 traffic is generally a mess, especially during a) rush hour, b) the weekend summer beach traffic, c) the OC Fair season or d) pretty much any other damn time you can think of. That being said, I went here with a friend who took me for a birthday pedi. The day we went was pretty quiet, but yes, we made appointments. The pedi was great and the place was clean as a whistle. I used to live around the corner from here, so close that I could've walked, but I don't think the Nail Lounge opened until after I moved away. I live up in L.A. so it's not super convenient for me, but I'd absolutely go back again. read more
