This place was recommended by one of my coworkers and finally came to see and taste, and it was delicious! Yes, it was a bit pricier than my usual restaurant visits but it was a great experience. The chef came out and greeted us- very friendly. We ordered their famous moles of the month and their delicious Chile poblano. We also ordered some of their cocktails, beautiful presentation. I've waited 28 minutes for someone to take my order. I heard the specials, I'm not interested in the appetizers that are on "special" either. Once Chef Paco/owner came and introduced the specials, we weren't interested as we wanted another appetizer, the service vanished. We had no idea who our server was, never got another bottle of water to refill. Bill was over $100 and we didn't even order beverages or had coffee. One appetizer, 2 meals and a flan amounted to over $100. The new restaurant is hard to see from the outside as there's no sign so you can easily miss it. The drink tasted like it was from an instant drink mix and it tasted watered down and not creamy like it should be. The enchiladas were bland and didn't have a potent flavor. Pretty basic for the price. The fish tacos were basic also. The tortilla was awkwardly fried where it wasn't a crispy texture nor a soft taco texture. Something like stale. I've been patronizing NRebozo (formerly New Rebozo) for over 30 years. This is not your typical Mexican menu with basic tacos, enchiladas, burritos. The menu is more upscale and eclectic than most all other Mexican restaurants. I always opt for the six enchiladas with 6 different homemade moles. The moles are so delectable you want to lick the plate. I've noticed they now have scallop tacos and scallop enchiladas on the menu. I would love to try these if I can tear myself away from my usual selection. Chef Paco is friendly, engaging and welcoming. read more

3 stars for incredible, solid food and awesome decor. Knocked 2 stars for bad service and high prices. Had dinner here with my brother and he ordered horchatas for us while he waited for me. When I got there the horchatas were in lovely glasses with red swirls all over them--I'm used to getting them to go in a styrofoam cup so this was a nice experience. However the horchatas were $4.25 each so that's also different from your $1.50 horchata in a styrofoam cup. The decor in here was gorgeous. Felt like I was entering this warm and cozy dining room/living room in Mexico. Really was digging the vibe! My brother told me to get ready as Chef Paco will come out to go through the specials on an iPad and word was that he greets with a kiss on the cheek. Hmmm well no kiss on the cheek but he was very exuberant and cheerful as he reviewed all the specials of the day. I liked his energy immediately and was drawn to the Fiesta Mole platter. After the chef left the waitress came to take our order and I asked how much the mole dish was. She said "20 something." I said excuse me? How much exactly? She said again "20 something" then walked away. I was perplexed and wondered if she was going to check the price to come back to tell me but she didn't. The next time she came to the table I asked her again if she had verified the price of the dish. She said no and left to find out and came back to tell me $23. Was a strange interaction. She was tentative the entire time serving us and seemed like she wanted to get away with talking the least to us. in general it was awkward service. Another odd incident was when someone came to refill our salsa the guy thoughtlessly sloshed a scoop of salsa on my jeans and walked away too quickly for me to say anything. Another no-no! Thank goodness it wasn't on my white dry-clean-only sweater because then I would've been upset... That all said the food was pretty amazing. The chips were fresh and the salsa was so good--also fresh and just the right hint of spice. The Fiesta Mole dish was a homerun and reminded me of the restaurant Tres Moles that used to exist in Lakeview where they would make different homemade moles daily but sadly shut down. Chef Paco's moles did not disappoint--pumpkin, white chocolate, almond, green pipian, traditional, pecan (maybe?) and I can't remember the other. It was SO creative and inventive, the foodie in me sighed with happiness. The bill was $50 for 2 horchatas, a burrito and the mole dish so it was definitely pricey. But I would gladly come back again if I was in splurge mode just to order the mole dish again--and to be in the presence of Chef Paco again--but will have to make sure to wear some grubby clothes in case I get more salsa splashed on me! read more

We had dinner with friends at New Rebozo and the meal was rather enjoyable. Both inside and out there is nothing particularly special about this place... I mean, inside they have some "authentic" décor and keep a really chill and relaxed vibe but most authentic Mexican restaurants do the same thing. Where they stand out is the drinks and the food. We started out with cocktails (I had a few margaritas) and then moved on to the food. The drinks are well made and they have a solid selection to choose from. Additionally, as is customary, they have chips and salsa on the table - we asked for the "hottest/spiciest" salsa they had in addition to the usual and they brought some right over (it was very tasty hot but not burn-your-mouth-out hot). On that note, the service was on par - our waitress was nice but, again, nothing that stood out as exceptional (either positively or negatively). For dinner with had an assortment of dishes and everyone seemed content with what they ate. In particular, I had the Enchiladas and they were VERY good. To say that I was stuffed by the time we left would be an understatement. If you're looking for a nice night out and are in the mood for Mexican then I would suggest giving this place a try. You should be able to find what you want on the menu and leave full and content. I know we are ready to return again! read more

What makes New Rebozo such a memorable dining experience is the passion, dedication, and hard work the chef puts into his restaurant. Every time I've come here to eat, Chef Paco makes it a point to stop by every single table to introduce himself and their unique menu. He even stops by during the meal to make sure everything is up to par! This was the first restaurant we ate at since indoor dining opened up again, and was pretty surprised by how packed it was inside! Every table was filled, but they did a terrific job mandating masks while not eating or drinking, and keeping barriers up between each table. We ordered their fiesta mole, which is a crowd pleaser and a dish I highly recommend! Chef Paco is known for his mole and it never disappoints! Each mole was so uniquely flavored and absolutely delicious! You also get the choice of chicken or cheese filling, which pairs beautifully with the mole. In addition to the fiesta mole, we also ordered chicken fajitas, which were slightly dry but also a hit! I also recommend trying their guacamole and their margaritas! Paco and his staff are simply put, AMAZING! My husband died recently and I took my family to Paco's. This place is so much like family. If you know how Paco presents his specials then you will understand this and if you don't you have to go just for that alone. Paco brings his Ipad to the table and presents the specials like no one else can. This evening it took him at least 3 minutes to do it because he was crying. He loved my husband and my husband loved him! Paco makes everyone feel like family everytime you walk into his place. The specials are well thought out by him. Had an amazing dinner here last night. Service was great. My wife had the hibiscus margarita, and it was excellent. Took the chefs recommendation and ordered the mango tamales. I'm not a fan of sweet tamales but was blown away by the depth of flavors. For dinner, we had the fiesta enchiladas. Six different moles. All very complex and delicious. My favorite was the cinnamon. I normally associate cinnamon with sweet, but there was such a pleasant warming earthiness to the sauce that I'm still trying to wrap my head around. OH. MY. GOD! Although it was one of the most expensive meals I've been a part of, it was so entirely worth it. We got seated super fast on a Friday night. Bonus points. I've eaten a lot of chips and salsa in my life and theirs was wonderful! The only place that beats them on that is Maya Del Sol. But their cocktails? Fricking genius. I got pretty toasty off ONE frozen margarita. Also sipped some of the other drinks at our table - pomegranate margarita and a mojito - amazing. Chef Paco came right out to our table and explained the specials to us in fantastic dramatic detail. In fact, his performance convinced us to get the special guacamole (with fruit!), the grilled tilapia special and the steamed shredded flank steak special. Both dishes were fantastic. Such a bold combination of flavors! The steak was paired with mashed sweet potatoes, a combination that just sang in my mouth. The other two dishes ordered were the chicken tacos and pumpkin seed mole with chicken. WOW. That mole was so good. I will definitely be going back to try more mole. I didn't try the tacos, but they looked beautiful and went fast. A couple of complementary things were brought to our table as well. One was a little dish with four bites of fried dough with some mole, queso fresco and sour cream on top, and the other was a generous scoop of homemade chocolate jalapeño ice cream. HOLY MOTHER. That ice cream was the most wonderful flavor! Smooth, creamy and spicy enough to feel a slight burn on your tongue. I had a bit even though I'm allergic to dairy. I wish I could have eaten a gallon of that stuff. Great food, personal attention from the chef for every table and an experience worth every penny. Overdue, but this is now my standing location for Cinco de Mayo and Christmas Eve. Why? Because those are the only times that Paco regales us with his lamb barbacoa. Just those two nights. That's it. So be there, or be square. It was...amazing. I foolishly ordered something with mole, even after the barbacoa had been described to me. But my friend, defying all logic, tasted it, went in to a seizure while his brain tried to process how delicious it was, and then voluntarily surrendered some so I could experience it. Moist, delicious, melt in your mouth, perfectly seasoned, with amazing salsa...I need to go take a shower now. It is also important to note that Paco runs around handing out high fives and free sombreros, for maximum hilarity. So, let's see. I'm in my mid 20s now. And I figure I've got a good 50 years left. That means I will be eating the barbacoa 100 more times in my life. read more

You have to love a place where the chef is so enthusiastic about what he is offering that night that he personally walks around and shares the specials with the tables. That's Chef Paco of New Rebozo and his signature exclamation of "Oh my god!" is heard time and time again while you enjoy his creations. We went on a Friday night and since our table wasn't ready- we grabbed a margarita in the front area. It's a little awkward as there is no where to stand by the bar- but there are a couple of high tops pushed in the corner to gather around and they do give you free chips and salsa while you wait. The good news? The wait for our table on the patio in the back was short and soon we were seated and checking out the menu. Our friends had been there many times and steered us toward the specials and anything with that incredible mole sauce (I think there were 5 different moles on the night we were there- ranging from pistachio to macadamia to pumpkin seed). We split a couple of the appetizer specials of the day that were great (especially liked the lobster and avocado and goat cheese stuffed enchilada with mango) and then on to the entrees. We all ordered different types of burritos and enchiladas topped with some of that amazing mole sauce. Know that when the menu says "hot"- it means it. My enchilada was so hot that it brought tears to my eyes but that just meant I needed for margaritas to cool it off. Speaking of margaritas (try the pomegranate one)- they are delicious! Service was spot on during our visit and Chef Paco stopped by again after we had gotten our food to make sure we were happy with our dinners. Free street parking is plentiful and available right out front. Prices are higher than your typical Mexican restaurant but then the food is of a higher quality as well. New Rebozo, oh, New Rebozo. What a strange culinary experience we here this past Saturday. First of all, it was Valentine's Day weekend. I was going there with three of my fellow single ladies for a girl's night to try to forget about all the hallmark holiday stupidities. When we walked in, it was as if Cupid vomited all over the restaurant! A million heart shaped balloons, VDay decorations everywhere, hell, they even had heart shaped tortilla chips. Lol. Though it may have been cute if I were on a date, I found this to be incredibly cheesy and way over the top. I'm all for themed parties but tone it down just a notch, NR! Too much, just too much. Then came the service - also too much. Not only are the servers very, very nice but they are also some incredible overachievers, coming to our table every five seconds. We hardly got a chance to enjoy our meal peacefully. More over, the chef, Paco, comes to the table once to introduce himself and another time to ask how the food is. Servers plus chef TWICE = annoyed. Now on to the most important points - food & drinks. I ordered a tamarindo margarita since I had never had one before. It was interesting. Tasty, refreshing, and STRONG. two thumbs way up. Food: I got the fiesta mole which allows you to sample six different enchiladas topped with six different moles - chocolate, white chocolate, cashew, macadamia nuts, pumpkin, and one other that I cannot recall. This was a true WTF experience. I've never had sweet tasting enchiladas and to be honest, I was not a fan whatsoever. Though I appreciated the chef's attempt at creating such unique moles, I prefer the traditional salty versions instead of feeling like I have a dessert rather than a main. With that being said, my favorite was the cashew. The macadamia one straight tasted like an after-dinner postre that should have been served with a cafecito. Weird. My friends agreed that this place, though cute, left a lot to be desired and was also overpriced for what we all had. I came, I saw, I conquered. But, next time, I'll pass. read more

My reactions to the flavors had my husband asking me if I was going to leave him for the food... We started off with the guacamole, as it had been recommended by a friend. I'm not a guac girl. I don't usually like avocado. But I was told I *had* to try it. So we did, and OH MY GOD! It's not your average guac - at all. Take what you might expect, add some spice, then some strawberries, jicama, mango... it was AMAZING! I had enchiladas poblanas and my husband had the steak quesadillas. Both so good that I couldn't stop making noises about the flavors of the mole! It was one of the best things to ever happen to my mouth! My reaction was that this is all I want to eat for the rest of my life! Even after I was full, my taste buds didn't want me to stop. Alas, I took a box for my leftovers so that I could try some dessert. Went with the chocolate jalapeno ice cream - wow! At first, it just tastes like chocolate ice cream, then the spice hits. I have been to this location a few times and I usually leave full but don't crave coming back. I have been a few times because a friend who lived in the area likes to go here. The owner is nice but I don't understand what he's saying sometimes. Nice guy though. It is a fine dining Mexican restaurant so it is on the pricier side. Like I said, I leave full however I always found the food to be over priced for what I ate. The last time I came here, I ordered the fish tacos and the tacos were served cold which is no good with any fish dish. They also had a special that month where the fish tacos were served with some kind of pork rind and it was not for my palette. Overall nice fine dining Mexican restaurant just outside of Chicago but I would rather go elsewhere. read more

I understand having some specials, but a speed read of photos and menu items announced by the server isn't my greatest desire. We have lived down the street from this place for a year and only just came in. Boy, were we missing out! The atmosphere is very cozy and inviting. Chef Paco greeted us in person when we sat down like he was having us over to dinner at his house. He checked on us numerous times during the meal to make sure everything was just right.... and it was! He personally presented the night's specials in a really wonderful way (hard to describe, very endearing) and the special we had (fish tacos) were everything he promised and more! Something strange just happened here. When you google the restaurant, it takes you to newrobozooakpark.com. This link has their menu, and a link to order pickup. We did that. My wife showed up and they had no record of the order. They then told her that this was not the correct website, but that the correct website (newrobozo.com) was closed down. So, they don't actually have a functioning website, but the website google gives you is apparently a scam? They then suggested that someone was taking advantage of them. Even though we've been in there many times, and they recognized her as a repeat costumer, she was treated very rudely and returned home in tears. Maybe something fishy is going on with their site, I don't know, but if this is how repeat customers are treated, that tells us enough. We won't return. Neither will our family. I understand that things happen, but you can't make your customers cry. read more
