It is probably good for a person with blood pressure issues, but if you are looking for a return visit that will not be happening. Chantelle said bring it back for fresh chicken. I had guests and couldn't do that. Chantelle said bring it back tomorrow for more but I didn't need it for tomorrow. She said that was my choices and hung up on me. I called back and asked for the name of the manager and she said Fatty then hung up again. I decided to Nu-wave because there was a Groupon deal. For $13, you get a set meal of two different types of fish, shrimp, 10pcs wing dings, slaw or spaghetti. This is half off their regular prices. The restaurant. Primarily a take out joint, there is very limited seating. Individual window seats 5, and two small tables that accommodate 2. The food here is made to order, so expect to wait if you don't call ahead. We were told it would be 20 minutes, but the food was ready in after 15 minutes or so. The Fish. We selected catfish and tilapia. Both were in a similar cornmeal crusted batter which gave the fish a lot of extra crunch. The filets were a little in the thin side, but the size was decent. This crust pretty much overpowered any flavor if any. This was served with their homemade tartar sauce which was average. 2,5 stars. The wing dings are boneless chicken nuggets in essence. Lightly dusted and deep fried. Your typical boneless chicken. This came with prepackaged bbq, ranch and buffalo dipping sauces. Nothing wrong with these. 4 stars. The slaw was kind of in between. Not quite runny, not quite creamy... kind of a quasi creamy/traditional slaw. This must be the "NEW wave". It wasn't bad, just different. 3 stars. The Shrimp. These were decent sized (31-40 ct). And we're battered and deep fried. While it was still very crunchy, this batter did not contain the cornmeal, which made it a little better. It was served with prepackaged cocktail sauce. 3. Stars. Overall, with the Groupon, the value is great. But the food itself is nothing to rave about. The service is a tad sub-par, and so are the facilities. read more

With a surprising deal from somewhere we got a combo with 4 pieces of catfish, 1/2 lb shrimp, 10 pc wing dings and a cole slaw. Fish and lemon pepper wings were way too hard to eat, and dry, bland. BUT the shrimp tasted great! I would go back for sure but for other flavors of wings. My mom really wanted to stop by for one of their lunch specials. We called in our order knowing that most times it takes awhile. After calling three times with no answer, someone finally picked up. They took the order and hung up before my mother could say no lemon pepper. She tried calling back twice, but there was no answer. This is the same as the Nu Wave Fish & Chicken found in various parts of Detroit. It is a newer location located along W. 9 Mile Rd & Greenfield Rds in Southfield. The same strip mall has a Leo's Coney island and a Lou's Deli. And this strip mall is within walking distance of Providence Hospital. It looks small and fairly non-descript outside. Inside is very clean and seems new, there is a large screen TV in one corner and an actual bathroom that paying customers can use. Several tables and chairs so if someone wanted to eat there they could. The day I was there, yesterday (3/21/11) there were two workers. One very friendly and personable lady and one younger looking kid in the back. The friendly lady allowed myself and my MIL to ponder over the take out menu as long as we wanted, which took a while as my MIL can never make up her mind. We placed an order. And it was ready very very fast. This location has essentially all the same stuff as the other Nu Wave locations - various over fried "Shrimps" an Fish and Chicken Wings, Tenders, Nuggets etc. Everything is deep fried and over flavored with Lord only knows what. I opted for a Chicken Tender dinner that came with 7 breast meat tenders, a kings helping of soggy barely lukewarm french fries, and some soggy stale white bread, with Two small 1oz containers of some substance that resembles Cole Slaw. A Few major differences between this Location and the other location on McNichols... The 9 Mile location is CLEAN, looks New, and has no sour off color smells. The Chicken Tenders at the 9mile location is not Over spiced and is not Over fried. And the alleged Cole Slaw actually tasted like Cole Slaw. On those notes, I would rather visit the 9 Mile/Greenfield NuWave vs any other NuWave. I still cannot decipher WTF that frigging Soggy White Bread is for. read more

Anyway, I have absolutely no complaints about the food, my problem is the service, which is the reason I gave them 3 and not 4 stars. Horrendous customer service is endemic in Detroit. People come to expect it as a way of life. However, having just come back to the area after a 5 year absence, I find it appalling that "please" and "thank you" coming from a customer is met with some of the most brusque and coarse responses. I thought the chicken was great! I was just disappointed that it took 30 minutes to get a simple 5 piece dinner that only included french fries and two slices of bread. Oh my god, worst food ever. I ordered a perch and wing ding combo and it's terrible. The wing dings are so small I think they were baby chicklets and my fish tastes like cold grease. They dumped so much lemon pepper on my food, I feel my blood pressure rising. Then I ordered 2 orders of okra for me and someone else and they put it in one container. I also ordered the catfish and shrimp combo, the shrimp has the worst taste. The catfish is undercooked and no flavor. The okra is over cooked. The restaurant in Highland Park is awful, we ordered 10 pieces of Cod Fish with a side order of Mac n Cheese and had it delivered through Door Dash. When we received our fish OMG, that fish was so hard you could throw it against a wall and it would not break. I immediately called Restaurant and Door Dash to requested a refund. The restaurant manager was apologetic and wanted me to return food that should be in the garbage plus no fish should have left the restaurant in that type of order, not like that! I am very upset about this place. Was working at Providence Hospital and decided to give them a try. Gave them my order an hour in advance and picked it up after work. I live an hour away and when I got home the order was completely screwed up. I paid for a banana pudding, didn't get it. The Collard Greens tasted like they came from a can and I only wanted one but was charged for two. The 3 piece chicken my wife got was a pathetic joke. Got three scrawny wings with next to zero meat. I ordered catfish, lets just say Gorton's fish sticks doesn't have anything to worry about. I will never under any circumstances waste my hard earned money at this place. i always order chicken from here whenever i'm having a gathering. not much to say except the service is quick, and you get a nice bang for your buck. my food is always hot, i usually order the wing dings. you can get about 50 for $22ish, depending on if you want them flavored or not. when you call in, make sure they confirm your order back to you. i've had instances where they have called me back to make sure i said wing dings and not whole wings. other than that, this place is decent. the food is always hot, fresh, and usually available in about 20 minutes if you call ahead! not bad for a local fried chicken spot. read more

This is about the Lansing location - I am so angry about this. Decided to give them a try last Fri, stopped in and placed a take out order. Waited about 15 min (was treated to the cashier yelling for several min at another employee at the front counter). Finally the cook sticks his head in and says that he just arrived and would start our order right away but it would be another 15 min wait. Immediately told the cashier we weren't willing to wait that long and just wanted a refund. She said she didn't know how, and called the manager. The manager told her that they don't do refunds on credit card orders (we had paid with Discover) and she was not allowed to give cash back. He just offered more food instead. We asked the cashier for the managers information and she said she didn't know his real name (!) they all just called him King and gave us his cell phone number. I was pretty flabbergasted at all of this. I placed a chargeback through Discover, but the $15 is really beside the point. It's going to cost them more than the $15 in the long run, that's not how you treat customers. read more
