I wanted to love this cafe but I'm not impressed. Sweet Dough Croquettes are amazing, but the chicken and waffles are terrible if I'm being honest. The dough in the waffles make the Belgian waffles too soggy, it felt like the waffle wasn't cooked. The chicken wasn't properly seasoned, I come form New York where I expect a chicken and waffles to at-least be decent but this plate was just terrible. My partner had steak and eggs and the steak wasn't good either. The potatoes weren't good either, even with ketchup it won't help the potatoes. Overall, I would only come here for the sweet dough croquettes and the orange juice. I do understand this is a family owned cafe but they need to do better! I had such high hopes for this cafe but this is not the best cafe in Avalon. Hope they see this review and actually do better. read more

Living in Avalon for a while it's nice to have a breakfast place. Preferring locally owned restaurants always up for supporting them. Breakfast starts with a delicious croquette of some sort - the place is quaint and warm, however, my server seemed overwhelmed and not really present. There was no time to interact. My boyfriend and I had a wonderful lunch here. They brought us two complimentary cinnamon roll bites soon after being seated. These were melt-in-your-mouth amazing!! Looking at the menu, I was torn between getting something sweet or savory. Everything looked so good! I decided on the veggie panini and my boyfriend ordered the classic hamburger with bacon. My panini was hot, tasty, and filling. My boyfriend enjoyed his burger as well. I loved that there was a good amount of options to choose from. The restaurant was clean and had nice decor. The service was great, friendly, and helpful. I have nothing negative to say about my experience. The food was delicious and the price was reasonable (around $20 for everything). We arrived at Nuno's at 9:45am this Saturday. They were quite busy, so we chose the option of dining outside. We waited patiently for a server to come to our table, to no avail - even though there were servers attending tables near ours. We did not even get offered a menu. Finally after sitting for 20 minutes, I got the attention of the hostess, who said she would send a server over. In the meantime, the staff proceeded to rearranged freshly cleaned tables, stock them with silverware and menus, and seat newly arrived guests. After waiting an additional ten minutes, we observed customers seated after us who immediately got their orders taken and the full attention of the server. I get being busy, but clearly they had time to serve these other patrons. Perhaps they were know as big tippers? We realized the chance of eating here or having a server deign to acknowledge us was slim to none, so we opted to leave. The hostess apologized she saw us leaving, but apologies do not taste as good as actual food. We opted instead for the nearby 5 and Diner. Fast service and great food, rather than being ignored for 30 minutes. I do not recommend Nuno's if you want decent service. read more

A coworker recommended this place so I visited with my mom m. We were both satisfied with the food and service we received it was nice to sit outside and see the fountain across the street. Perhaps the best, current restaurant in Avalon Park. We love going here for breakfast/brunch. Limited seating does not deter from coming here and we do often wait for a table (we have a large family and are used to it). I cannot even fathom how bad of an experience I had, on-top of the cold mediocre food the server ASHLEY put a $35 tip on my card when a 0 was clearly written on the receipt. I left a $10 cash tip on a $31 bill which is more than 25% which is pretty generous considering the bill. Yes people make mistakes but I refuse to believe this was a mistake because why would someone who was unhappy with their first plate of food tip $35 on top of $10 that's $45 for again a $31 bill. She had to have known what she was doing if she tapped 2 different numbers on the screen to add that tip. Then what really just showed the moral of this place was when I went in to speak to the owner to get my money back the server was there and wouldn't even look at me. The service is professional, personable and very friendly. It is a quint foodies' treasure in Avalon. The atmosphere reminded me of the family owned businesses in New York City were they actually cared to make a connection with their customers. There were some ladies at another table who exchanging meaningful conversation with the staff as friends. This was my first visit and I felt welcomed and not just a customer. The food taste fresh, good and attention was paid to the construction and plating. Though my egg, bacon, cheese croissant is simple to make ... all the ingredients were present with every bite. We usually have a decent experience here with food and service but today was a different story. We (two of us) walked in and sat at 11:30, ordered food and drinks (two sandwiches one without a side) at 11:35 when we were greeted, didn't receive our food till 12:15. Not only did we watch at least two other larger tables that were seated after us get their food before us but we were told it was my partners panini is what was taking so long. He ordered a ham, turkey and cheese panini with no side and my breakfast sandwich came out with burnt bacon almost not edible. As someone who has worked in the service industry they either were prioritizing to-go orders over people dining in or somehow our order got lost in the kitchen line up. All we would have appreciated was our server or staff giving us a heads up of the kitchen backup prior to seating us. We would have ate elsewhere as we were just in for a quick bite. Realistically they should have been putting time between seating table to give the kitchen time to catch up and to prevent already seated guests from waiting 40 min+ for sandwich style dishes. read more
